Private JC Thomas is a soldier with a secret. Sara is a volunteer nurse at a civil war hospital. When JC is injured it is Sara who discovers what JC has been desperately hiding. Rather than report JC, Sara joins the wounded Private for one night of forbidden passion. With a tragedy comes an unexpected opportunity, and JC and Sara have the chance to embrace life and a future they thought denied to them. This historical lesbian erotic romance was written by Rhavensfyre. Rhavensfyre is an award winning author in Lesbian Erotica and has written both Lesbian Romance and Fantasy genre novels and novellas. If you enjoy this hot little short, have a look at what else they have to offer.
Rhavensfyre is the collaborative pen name used by two writers, Roxanne and KL, who have been partners since 2000 and were finally legally married in Washington D.C. in 2012. They have a small farm in Pennsylvania where they raise and breed horses. KL is a horse trainer and has shown western pleasure in the past, now her focus is more on pleasure riding and breeding. She is an avid cyclist, and when she is not on four hooves she is on 2 wheels. Roxy works as a nurse by night and an artist by day. A military veteran, she has seen a good bit of the world and now enjoys the quiet country life immensely. “Switching Gears” is their first book.
Impressive bit of scene setting in a twenty two page story. Rhavensfyre captured a moment in time with their accurate depiction of The Civil War ( or the war between the States if you are from the South) and the reality of war. Even more the reality of women enlisting as men or working as nursing sisters in untenable conditions. A good if short read.
Reading this book was a risk for me. I truly do not like historical books, History has never been kind to women and worst to lesbians. I know how Roxy and KL write and I knew I would care to much for the women they had written about. I did not see how this could possibly end well, even knowing these amazing authors as I do. I read it anyway and I am glad I did.
Sabre is a beautiful tale. Like all their stories I fell into the scene they wrote and as I predicted I quickly came to care for JT and Sara. The eroticism between these two was touching and tender.
Far too soon this book ended, before I was ready. This story ended well, leaving plenty of room for me to dream about where their lives would take them.
This will teach me to doubt the power of Rhavensfyre!
4 stars. Beautiful and so romantic. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. JC and Sara have fantastic chemistry for this to be so short and I will ALWAYS be a sucker for 'woman hiding/living as a man' trope and I make no apologies about it. This was great.
I liked the premise of this lesbian historical romance. Unfortunately, I think it would be better as a full length book and not a short story. It all seemed rushed.
