"Till death do us part" was never meant to be the end.

Nova Taylor has never felt more at home than when she’s surrounded by ghosts. So when her only living friend is nearing the end of her life, Nova refuses to mourn. Instead, she’s determined to give her the love story she deserves.

To do that, she turns to Maverick Oakhorn, a ghostbuster with a deep skepticism about meddling with the dead.

As they work to reunite the lost loves, she finally feels like she’s building the life and the family she’s always longed for.

Until a spirit that should have been left to rest threatens to tear it all apart.

Now, to protect the people she loves—living and dead—Nova must trust that the souls that are meant to stay will and that some bonds are too strong to break, even in death.

👻 Paranormal Romance [Ghosts]
🖤 MF

This was more than I was ever expecting. I was stoked to read another ghost story, but what I wasnt expecting to find was a story that was intricately woven with a sub story that showed the resilience of domestic violence survivors. The two stories come together at the end, but the road to that ending was beautifully written.

Nova is a Medium who has been made to hide the thing that makes her, her even though she comes from a long line of Mediums. Her line is special as she can scent a soul, and I loved the description that was given when she explained what the souls of her closest confidants smell like. Even though Nova technically hides herself from the living, she has a great found family of James, Lois, and Marg [a few others as well but I dont want to spoil anything].

Maverick is a fellow Medium/Ghostbuster who made a terrible impression on Nova with his standoffish behavior and unwilling nature to help her in a time of need when she was younger. He more than makes up for it during the story, and ended up being everything that Nova needed.

I wont spoil anything else in the book, because truly you really need to read this and just enjoy it for yourself. I wish there was so much more to it, because I didnt want to leave Nova & Maverick or James...I needed that Epilogue to be so much longer to learn all that I could about him. Beautifully written, solid book.

Tropes:
🖤 Paranormal Romance
🖤 Medium x Ghostbuster
🖤 Found Family
🖤 Second Chance x Redemption

4.5 stars !!! “Maybe love isn’t about holding on so tightly. Maybe it’s about trusting that it stays”

Oh this was so good. I love the unexpected when reading a book. As soon as I started reading I knew I was going to like this!! Now that I’ve finished, I love it!! This had me with all the feels throughout.
The story evolves around Nova a medium, who is endearing, has so much empathy and really doesn’t know the positive impact she has on those around her(alive and the ones in the in between).
This book deals with grief, never feeling you’re enough, loss, mystery (it has ghosts after all😉) and the power of love. Thank to the author for sharing this beautiful story and giving me the opportunity to read and enjoy every moment of it.

I was positively thrilled to receive an ARC of this heartwarming story from the author, and truly, I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book!!

OK, let's get the basics covered:
--Cozy fantasy/paranormal romance (1 chili pepper spice for a brief open door scene)
--She's a medium; he's a ghostbuster
--Found family and community
--Reverberations of abusive relationships
--Practical Magic vibes
--Second chances and fresh starts
--Beautiful and unique storytelling and worldbuilding

Our FMC not only has the ability to see and speak with ghosts, she also has the ability to relocate them to more habitable haunting grounds. Her dream is to open an inn where she can bring spirits who need a safe, loving, and warm place to stay before they move on. Through her work as an aide in a nursing home, Nova has become BFF's with resident Marg, and her ghostly sister, Lois. Captivated by the stories of Marg's life, Nova sets off on a journey to find the ghost of Marg's great love and reunite them in her inn. Naturally this is a bit harder and more complicated than it seems, and she becomes reluctant allies with Maverick-a man who can see ghosts but doesn't quite take Nova's rose-tinted glasses view of them, and yet finds himself captivated by the hope she carries that love can triumph.

This story was so much more intense, heartwarming, and all around cozy and loving than it had any right to be. I was so pleasantly captivated by the author's storytelling and the unique worldbuilding she included, such as Nova's ability to move ghosts via a candle and the importance of the signature scent of a soul. Nova is in turns naive, hopeful, impulsive, reactive, optimistic, and romantic about life, love, and the afterlife. Nova is a girl who needs to process what is happening around her and feel all of those emotions, before calming down and finding the right path, and I really appreciated how emotional she was-she allowed herself to deeply feel and tiptoe along that line of head vs heart.

Nova and Maverick together are cat's meow chef's kiss lovely, and such lovely counterparts to one another. It can be hard to find fantasy romances that celebrate quiet, steadfast love. It's not always exciting and breathtaking and adrenaline fueled, but knowing that you are seen, and loved, and cared for is powerful in the hard moments and the calm ones. The Inn Between celebrates loyalty and love in so many of the relationships shown on page-romantic, friendships, and familial.

The final note I want to leave here is the way this book celebrates community-in the connections we form, the ways we allow ourselves to ask for help, the ways we protect each other. Both Nova and Maverick, in their own ways, have a history of going it alone--choosing to close off pieces of themselves out of self protection or fear of rejection. I personally really connected with the intentional way Nova chose to build a community, seek support, and choose love in her interactions and dreams for her future.

I highly, highly, highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a warm and cozy hug in book form, focused on building community, choosing the ghosts we carry with us, second chances, and loyal, steadfast love in many forms.

Favorite Quote:
"Maverick's gaze flickered over her, his expression thoughtful, before he shot her a shy smile. "That's interesting." It wasn't a grand reaction, but the sincerity of it made warmth curl in her chest. He wasn't humoring her or making her feel like a sideshow. He was listening, appreciating that she'd let him in just a little. It made her feel less alone."

4.5⭐️ (Rounded up)

The Inn Between is a genre-bending paranormal romance with elements of magical realism, mystery, loss, grief, and second chances. It also has a hint of spookiness for those craving a haunting ghost story!

The story follows Nova Taylor, a medium who works at a nursing home and spends her free time helping restless spirits find peace. She dreams of opening a sanctuary inn for souls caught “in between.” When her dear friend, Marg, at the nursing home nears death, Nova is determined to find her long-lost love and reunite them. Enter Maverick Oakhorn, a ghostbuster from Nova’s past that she doesn’t have fond memories of. Thrown together by circumstance, the two strike a reluctant partnership to help reunite the pair of separated souls while exorcising an evil presence that stands in their way!

This is a character-driven story with a wonderful cast of characters that will delight readers. Nova is an introspective, empathetic protagonist who feels alienated by her mediumship and kinship with ghosts. She hails from a lineage of female mediums, including her mother, who’s currently suffering a mental health crisis—and Nova has resentment towards her father (and others) who don’t understand her and her mother’s unique way of life. Her dream of owning an inn for ghosts stuck between worlds is one of the focal points of the story—and readers get acquainted with several friendly ghosts that Nova intends to house there. Nova’s relationships with the ghosts and their dialogue—especially with her beloved longtime friend James—are the emotional core of the story, and the found family trope is beautifully illustrated. Her evolving relationship with Maverick is another highlight. He starts off as her enemy—he’s skeptical of her dream and has a much more negative view of ghosts and the supernatural world. As they work together, their dynamic shifts from wary partnership to connecting and understanding to mutual attraction. Their sweet romance is very slow-burn but is so easy to become emotionally invested in as they share mutual respect and vulnerability—and their unique banter will have readers smiling throughout!

The story is told primarily from the 3rd person perspective of Nova over a single timeline. As Nova begins to search for Margaret’s lost love, she discovers her old diary—and the diary entries serve as a flashback device, bringing in a past timeline of Marg’s younger self that runs alongside the present-day narrative and makes the story more compelling and layered! The diary entries give context to Marg’s marriage, love interest, and trauma—and these are all key points of knowledge in Nova and Maverick’s mystery solving, making the story feel like a cozy mystery that you can’t put down!

The story has a slow-burn start, introducing readers into Nova’s world, her relationships, and her rhythms with the spirits she cares for. The pacing really picks up by the mid-section, as her ghost mission with Maverick takes center stage. From there, the plot becomes more layered and compelling, as secrets start bubbling and the tension between the seen and unseen grows. There are some highly emotional scenes in the second half and at the very end—so be sure to have your tissues on hand! The ending ties up the emotional arcs with a satisfying warmth, and the (what feels like a surprise) epilogue that follows will leave readers tearing up while simultaneously having smiles plastered on their faces! And if all of that isn’t enough, there’s also a bonus scene available on BookFunnel to expand the world building even further! With such heartfelt, original storytelling and a little room left for the imagination, there’s good potential to expand this book into a series with more ghastly adventures with these memorable characters at The Inn Between!

Overall, The Inn Between is a highly original, cozy paranormal romance that hits heavy on the feels with its rich characters (and ghosts), thought-provoking themes, and satisfying emotional arcs. It’s perfect for readers who like books like The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston or anyone who loves ghost stories with healing journeys, found family, and slow-burn romance. If all this sounds intriguing, grab a copy of this one immediately and prepare yourself for some super cozy-supernatural feels!

Narrator Performance:

The audiobook of The Inn Between is a heartfelt, cozy listen narrated by seasoned actor and award-nominated audiobook narrator Rebecca Avery. Avery brings protagonist Nova Taylor vividly to life with a soft, introspective voice that perfectly matches the character’s emotional depth and quiet inner strength. The portrayal gives the energy of someone who spends a lot of time listening—to people, to spirits, and to her own inner voice, which perfectly captures Nova’s mediumship, kinship with ghosts, and feelings of isolation in the real world. What’s especially impressive is how Avery alters Nova’s voice throughout the audiobook to reflect her growth. At the start, her tone is more subdued to convey Nova’s uncertainty and unhappiness—especially with regard to resentment towards her father. As the story unfolds and Nova steps more into her power and becomes more determined, Avery adds more confidence and conviction to her voice—especially when she speaks to Maverick or stands up for herself to her family.

In contrast, Avery, at first, portrays Maverick with a cautious, measured voice (as if he’s holding something back), authentically capturing a man who keeps one foot in logic even as he’s drawn deeper into Nova’s supernatural world. But as Maverick’s walls begin to crumble, Avery shifts her performance to make him sound more resonant and open. By the time the romance begins, Maverick’s affection for Nova and emotional investment in their journey together feel real, and his transformation from skeptic to believer and from guarded to vulnerable is convincing and very satisfying—the sign of a true standout narrator performance!

One of the highlights of Avery’s performance is Marg’s diary excerpts and flashbacks, which are performed with a younger, more vulnerable voice with a cadence sounding authentic to the 1950s. Her portrayals of the book’s ghosts are all unique and convincing, especially the more sinister ghost Charlie, whose voice sounds utterly terrifying in the climactic scenes! Avery’s distinct voices for each character also make it easy to follow multi-character scenes—especially the final confrontational scenes where multiple ghosts and mortals convene—making for a very immersive and entertaining listening experience!

Overall, Rebecca Avery’s narration elevates The Inn Between with her dynamic character portrayals, expert pacing, and engaging voice. This audiobook is a must-listen for fans of cozy ghost stories, slow-burn romance, and character-driven narrator performances full of nuance and emotional authenticity! If you haven’t listened to Rebecca’s narration before, this is a superb example of her character work, impeccable acting skills, and dynamic delivery—and you’ll definitely want to check out her backlist of diverse titles!

If you loved the show Ghost Whisperer but wished it was a little cuter, you NEED to read this book!
Nova, a medium who sees the good in everyone and everything, is portrayed so well.
Maverick, the local ghost buster, doesn't see the magic that Nova does in ghosts.
Sprinkle in an inherited run down Inn, and you get a cozy story that had me with gasping in surprise and hiding a few stray tears.
This book is written beautifully and really sucks you in. I stayed up way too late reading this, absolutely immersed in the story.

What an amazing read!! I had a hard time putting this down! I definitely could have read it in one sitting if I didn't have life things.

This book reminded me of a few different things. I first thought of the Ruby Red series by Kerstin Gier, a series where the main character also sees ghosts. By the end of the book the K-Drama, Hotel Del Luna, came to mind. It has a similar premise and it makes me wonder if it served as some type of inspiration for The Inn Between.

Throughout the book we follow Nova, who is a medium who cannot only see ghosts but can smell their soul's essence whether it be the comforting scent of lavender, or the acrid sent of burnt popcorn. We get to see her grow as a person and a a medium.

The story takes place mainly in present day but facilitated by Margs' diary from when she was a teenager. The diary excepts follows various parts of Margs' tough life. Despite the hard life she led she was able to help Nova's mom through a difficult period in her own life.

Maverick, Nova's love interest and fellow medium, helps Nova find her way both as a medium and in life.

I would love to go more in-depth with this story but I don't want to give too much away!

The way Danika built this world makes me eager for her next book, which is teased in the bonus epilogue!

What an incredibly touching and unique story. It took me a bit to get into it but I'm so glad I stuck with it because it turned out to be such a powerful story. Just be sure to have tissues handy because it's been awhile a book brought me to crying my eyes out. This book was such an intense, heartwarming yet ultimately cozy little book I absolutely adored.

In the story we follow Nova a young medium who not only sees ghosts but can smell their souls. I found this to be an interesting concept. She was very impulsive at times jumping into things without thinking it through which got her into some trouble. She had a lot of personal growth in this story and it was so nice to see that journey. She was such a strong and lovable character.

Enter Maverick, Nova's love interest, fellow medium/Ghostbuster. Maverick ends up helping Nova throughout the book to find the ghost and long lost love for her friend who was about to pass away. Maverick helps Nova in many ways find her way both as a medium, in life, and to each other. I loved how sweet he was to her and how he was always there for her to matter what.

I got myself attached to all those characters especially her ghosts they pulled at my heartstrings. James especially had my heart he was so special and always there for Nova. Their banter and friendship was so sweet. Margs was also such an important character and I loved her witt and banter.

This is a story of finding your strength, letting go, love, letting people in, and learning to grow. It's definitely worth a read, I highly recommend.

This book took me a little bit to get through, it is wonderful, the story line is jam packed with so much detail and information that I had to take a second to process it all. Nova is a total sweetheart, and her friends James Allen- Clark, Margarite and Lois are friends we all wish we had.

Nova Taylor(Main Female Character): Medium, found out she was a medium at the age of 18 Grandma Elaine floated in after passing away staying that their family came from a long line of mediums. Nova is a nurse at Sunny Acres.

Maverick(Main Male Character): a ghost hunter who had a horrible first interaction with Nova. Nova went to ask for Maverick’s help and he brushed her off. For years Nova has hated him, yet there paths cross again when Nova goes to try to find the ghost of a friend’s ex husband.

If you like carnivals, ghost hunting, mediums, and a bit of romance this book is totally up your alley. Keep in mind, there is a really cool twist I haven’t heard of before in regard to ghosts & blood? (Confused? Read it and you will completely understand!) I really liked how that played into the book and how it came together. thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this really cool book (as someone who was a carnie at one point, this was really cool to be able to actually put myself in the shoes of the characters) even though the situations were intense.

Thank you for allowing me to read you ARC.

The perfect heartwarming ghost story!

I loved everything about this book! The characters, the setting, the plot!! Nova and Maverick are so perfect, I loved seeing their relationship grow. Marg, Lois, James, oh my heart is so full! I think these characters will be sticking with me for a little while. The paranormal aspect was done so well, It was different from others I've read. I did get a little worried at the end, but I'm overall so happy with the way it ended, and the Epilogue made me cry.

The only reason this isn't a 5 star is because it was a little hard to get into in the beginning, but once things picked up, I couldn't stop! I'm so happy I got to go on this little adventure with Nova, and I highly recommend to anyone looking for their next paranormal read!

I received an ARC, all opinions are my own.

Oh this one was really nice !!
It’s not my go to genre but damn I was really nicely surprised!!

I was so totally addicted by this read, I couldn’t wait to see how it ended !

This is so beautifully written and the characters are so loveable that it was really fun to read.

The story is just amazing, we get to know Nova who is a medium trying to help ghosts get what they deserve in their new chapter of life. Little did she know that this will be a very different way to go for her but in the end it is all worth it !

I sure hope that we will get to see Nova soon !

Found family and slow burn? Yes please! The Inn Between was such an incredible read—I devoured it in one sitting. Danika Stone’s writing is immersive, emotional, and laced with just the right amount of mystery. I can’t wait to dive back into this world.

Hauntingly emotional, beautifully heartwarming, and full of ghostly charm—this story will be lingering in my mind for a long time. Yes, I cried. And yes, I’m telling all my friends they need to read it.

Love, family and friendships are powerful in ther own way. I enjoyed this book very much and although its a ghostly book it was perfect. James 🥹 ( thats all I'm gonna say regarding him). I love how Nova found someone she can rely on, a living. Someone who went through ther own trauma of being able to see and talk to ghosts. Being a medium sounds like a loooot of work, but I love that Nova enjoys it and helped Maverick find the true meaning of what he does and why he does it. #ghostbuster

One of the most heartwarming and beautiful stories that I've read in a long time.

It has the nostalgia and coziness of the paranormal romances I grew up reading while still maintaining a unique and fresh story.

If you grew up with movies like Ghost - you need this book. It will hit you in all the same sort of feels, but in a way that makes you feel comforted instead of devastated, lol.

Highly recommend!

I need you guys to understand, this story was so much fun to read! First, I’m a girl who likes spice but I would label this as ajar because it was done so well I still felt the chemistry between Nova and Maverick. It also gave me The Haunted Mansion vibes which really brought me back and gave me that good nostalgic feeling. The writing is easy, descriptive, and kept me engaged! I can’t wait to read more from Danika!

It kind of reminds me of ghostwhisperer with JL Hewitt, with a touch of supernatural. Both series I love.
This book would be a perfect autumn read, with a bruning fire , blankets , lit candles and a cup of tea!

Really good shorter read, there was smut implied but not over-the-top which was a nice change of pace from my usual picks.

Nova is such a sweet soul but super reckless with a dose of self-loathing and her desire to be seen and loved was so bittersweet. James was lovely he really broke me at the end I cried a little especially for the epilogue. Maverick really grew on me, he was such a great addition to the story that really balances the chaos around them all!

Overall a very sweet story, would recommend if you need a less intense, more light-hearted read!

I’m awful at reviews but I want to say that if you’re looking for a fresh ghost story, this is it. It was an adventure with mystery, thrills, loss and romance. I laughed at parts and teared up at others. The story flowed effortlessly, tied up beautifully and left me wanting more. I can’t wait to see more from this author and would love to join Nova for more.

what a great book! I haven’t read anything quite like this before and it is so well done! I was 𝙣𝙤𝙩 expecting the emotional impact that this book had😭 I loved how tense the scenes were with the evil ghost while still swooning over Maverick and being all in my feelings about the other ghosts.

There were so many times I started tearing up from Nova just being 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯. She is surrounded by people, living and dead, who love her for who she is. The Inn Between is her life’s work and I would love my own room there🖤 This was such a beautiful story about love and relationships lasting after death, and the connections you make in life🥺

Thank you so much to the author for the gifted copy!

I’m shocked this book has such high ratings. It had a good premise but the lack of details makes the story not relatable. None of the characters had any depth because we didn’t understand them. The magic and ghost portion of the book was the most interesting but the least talked about. So when an event would happen with that type of plot I didn’t know why the characters were acting the way they were. It was confusing and therefore boring. Sometimes it read like a Hallmark movie - over the top and unrealistic (not the vibe I thought this book would be). Maybe I’m missing something!

The Inn Between is a heartwarming read about medium Nova who is working hard to create a safe, welcoming place for souls to stay in while they await their journey to the afterlife. When she vows to fulfill a promise to her dear friend, Nova enlists in the help of ghost hunter Maverick.

The relationship between Marg and Nova had me laughing and crying in all the best ways. In fact, the relationship between James and Nova did the same! Danika does an amazing job of creating found family with these three.

Maverick and Nova had a rocky relationship to start but once their relationship grew… ugh, my heart. I just love them both so much!

The Inn Between is for anyone who has ever lost someone and wishes they could go visit them… even if just for the day.

This book was recommended to me and the synopsis called to me. I wasn't quite sure what I was going to be getting into when I started the book. This book runs the gambit of emotions. There are some very fun parts, some extremely sad parts, and moments that make you sit back and consider your own life and place in the world.

Nova is a wonderful main character, with enough flaws to make her someone you could see being friends with. A medium who hasn't always had the easiest of times, but always looks for the best in ghosts. She is determined and headstrong with a bit of recklessness that gets her into trouble at times.

Maverick balances out her character super well. He too is a medium, but he has let the darker side of the life take over and doesn't see it for what it could be. That is, until spending more time with Nova. I liked their relationship and his steadfastness without trying to change her. He stands with her and even when he doesn't agree he let's her try it her way.

The cast of ghostly characters are fantastic and they need to be met on their own as I would not be able to do them justice. In true me form, Marg and James are by far my favorite secondary characters and for once I think everyone else will agree with me!

The story took me a few chapters to get into and there were a couple times I felt like I had missed something. But overall, the story is incredible. The mix of the present with the past through journal enteries is one of my favorites and I looked forward to both. The parallels between Marg and Nova and the love they find is quite enjoyable but much more subtle. My only real complaint is the speed at which Maverick and Nova fall together, but it also fits with the plot and the high stakes events they find themselves in.

This is a truly adorable book and I highly recommend. But do have a tissue or two ready as it will definitely evoke some tears from you!

Happy Reading!

An amazing debut

What a beautifully written tale of love and loss. Frequently hilarious, this debut (seriously!!) novel was also deeply poignant. It is, ultimately, a ghost story - but it is far from scary. Our female lead is a medium who can see and talk to ghosts. Always good intentioned but frequently reckless, she connects better with the dead than the living. She gradually falls for her opposite - a ghost hunter who does not share her love of the dearly departed.

There is a cast of wonderful characters who show that personality transcends death. You’ll also get cooking lessons from a ghost, a brilliant meet-cute (she’s just been arrested), a priest playing D&D, a large number of candles and the discovery that you can’t shake hands with a ghost. It’s a slow burn romance with the door open briefly.

There is substantial discussion of grief, mental illness, difficult relationships with parents, isolation, intimate partner violence and exorcism. As always, check your triggers and read safe.

That said, these subjects are handled gracefully and respectfully and create a rich emotional landscape. It was a wonderful read and I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind a bit of the paranormal in their reading.
