“Don’t tell me what I do or don’t understand”

Milly

“There’s nothing wrong with true love and happy-ever-after endings. You might have had one bad experience, but you can’t knock the real thing because of that.”

Lucas
“ ‘I’m surprised you stuck it out in a job where you were forced to take orders.”

Sloppy piece of work. I'm disappointed because I love the premise of the book. I love Milly because she voices out her opinion and yes she's a bit of a bitch but that's just part of her charm.

I'm disappointed because toward the last parts of The Real Romero are rush. A lot. It felt as if the ending was anti climatic. I hated the way the conversations disappeared.

It kept wanting more. And not in a good way. Ugh!

The story started off pretty well....a down-and-out and hardworking Milly get's "marooned" in a luxury Swiss chateau with a gorgeous man, who she presumes is a lowly ski instructor but he's actually a billionaire. He's impressed that she's not a golddigger and likes him for what he is and not his money like all the women he has known in the past!!!!!
And then, after a few chapters I became totally irritated with Milly and her inane comments and sayings.

He asks her to pretend to be his fiancee to please his ailing mother and after their visit to Spain, offers her a job and lets her stay in his luxury pad in London...yes, she had no job or a place to live because he ex-fiancee, who she caught in bed with her best friend and housemate, who is still occupying their place....why she didn't kick her friend out and get herself together is beyond me...but then it's so much easier when a rich man puts you up.

And the hero just didn't do it for me.....why did it take him so long to make up his mind about Milly.....he did believe she loved him and not his money...so why all the angst and uncertainty!!!!!

I have read much better books by this author.....this one miss the mark for me!!

This had a great premise and I loved the beginning but then it went downhill.
Sorry but I found Millie an irritating and frustrating heroine. Why her lovely name was reduced to Millie puzzled me!

I think Millie epitomised the kind of heroine I dislike. She was constantly argumentative, insulting and impertinent yet was supposedly lacking in self confidence and had low self esteem. She was constantly dismissing her own attraction and I found that really hard to take.

I actually liked Lucas and I understood when he didn’t correct Millie’s assumption he was a ski instructor.

What really ruined it for me was the ending. It was short and abrupt and totally unsatisfactory. Some of the padding (the constant arguing and hostility towards Lucas from Millie) could have been cut and the denouement expanded. In fact an epilogue would have been great.

A good quick read with a feel-good theme. Exactly as promised. Since the plot delivered on promise I would have given it a higher rating, except for the poor editing which included at times, entire sentences/parts of dialogue repeated almost word for word.

DNF'ed at the halfpoint. No chemistry between the hero and heroine. Hero a boring beta. The storytelling underwhelming.

I did like the heroine. She was likeable.

We can all agree Lucas didn’t really have that great an attraction to Milly- and why was her beautiful name ‘Amelia’ shortened to Milly? Which somehow coincided with her overly loving character trait! Reading about a terribly insecure heroine ruins stories for me- every time. And, did Lucas have to be some kind of gift to the human race, wealthy, hot, beautiful, loves his mother and a master of the bedroom arts?! Again, the heroine was too in awe of the hero and unfortunately for the author, we could tell he didn’t really want her, it’s just that he didn’t have options between the snowbound getaway and his mother’s place. Honestly, I began this book with high hopes, reading about a girl who was down on her luck but maybe was going to get back up and find someone who really loved her- it wasn’t Lucas. Hours and hours were spent pointing out how he and she didn’t make sense, how he usually went for leggy brunettes, supermodels- it’s like the author was trying to relay that Milly was unattractive and didn’t belong with someone as perfect as Lucas, and not once did the hero ever call her beautiful, and yet she was a beautiful girl( going by her character, sense of humour and spank)!
HP heroes seriously need to tone it down on how perfect they think they are- seriously. And the heroines need to have more confidence in who they are, regardless of their looks- maybe that should be self respect and lots of love for themselves. I’d never take Lucas back even he came back crawling! He was an entitled and insensitive jerk who clearly thought he was doing Milly a favour to even look at her! “I’ve wanted you from the moment I laid eyes on you!” What a load of bullshit Lucas! Nobody believed you.

Boring. No chemistry. Too slow read.

When he tries to tell her her who he really is, he has too spell it out for her. She isn’t a quick thinker, is she.

She’s a virgin, but the first time they have sex she immediately gives him a blowjob the second he takes his trousers off. Even before he could do anything with her body and before he could even ask for it. She wastes no time. I don’t think a virgin is that agressive or assertive or whatever you call it in bed. It seemed unreal. Nah.

I really enjoyed Milly and Lucas's story. Milly fell for him the minute she was him. Thyroid complicated relationship played out beautifully. Very enjoyable to read. Would have liked a longer more detailed ending.

I appreciate how much time was spent on them getting to know each other and that there was no personal betrayal between them. I like Milly a whole lot and Lucas was not a horrible sexist.

Author – Cathy Williams
Publication Date – February 17, 2015
Type – Paperback
Genre – Harlequin/Romance
Rating – 2.5 out of 5 Stars

Read this while baking cookies and banana bread for my grandsons. It was ok. It wasn't a book that needed any real concentration.

Milly was cute...quirky. Prone to saying whatever popped into her head. Lucas wasn't really a hot alpha, just a nice guy with commitment issues. It was a sweet story and the perfect book to read while baking. It didn't keep me enthralled so I didn't get annoyed when my timer went off.

"Williams takes readers on a luxurious ride from London to the snow-capped French Alps and, finally, to sunny Spain. Her quaint Brit-isms add legitimacy, but it’s her couple’s entertaining interactions that keep the story interesting, intense and flowing" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).

This was a nice read. They just failed to enthrall me. Millie was nice and grounded. And the Hero was a bit to full of himself and his being rich and all that. It just failed to capture my interest I guess..
