KELLY THOMPSON has a degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design. Her love of comics and superheroes have compelled her since she first discovered them as a teenager. Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her boyfriend and the two brilliant cats that run their lives, you can find Kelly all over the Internet where she is generally well liked, except where she's detested.

Are there other Amazons out there?
Well, if so, Diana is going to find them.



This one starts with WW trekking through the jungle with Steve Trevor, Etta & Gia Candy, and Barbara Minerva. The idea is to locate any Amazons being held captive in "man's world".
A reimagined Veronica Cale heads up the frightening Area 41, and the new Absolute Dr. Poison resides there as a gas that Cale has stuffed into an old WWII suit. It's intimated that there is better technology available, but they're keeping it from them to keep Dr. Poison compliant.



Another great issue that seems to be setting us up for the next arc. I'm excited to see where this is heading.

Just finished Absolute Wonder Woman #8 by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman. It’s the start of a new arc and the pacing is definitely on the slower side, but it lays a solid foundation. The real standout here is Sherman’s art—absolutely stunning and full of character. A beautiful issue, even if the momentum takes a pause. Solid 3.5 stars and hoping it picks up from here.

This has quickly become one of my favorite ongoing runs! I feel genuinely connected to every character, and the story keeps me hooked with nonstop action while still delivering grounded, emotional moments that pull you even deeper into the world. The artwork, too, has rapidly become an all time favorite for me.

This isn’t exactly a hot take, but Diana is just so cool!! She’s gentle and compassionate, yet carries immense power and righteous wrath when it’s needed. Her constant fight for justice feels inspiring, especially knowing how deeply she holds onto the lessons her mother taught her. That aspect of her character feels meaningful and relatable in a way that goes beyond the page. She’s always striving to grow, putting herself aside to protect and uplift others, and that’s what makes her so compelling.

I was immediately pulled in by this issue and the new story it’s setting up. Doctor Poison is very intriguing. Are they a villain, or just a pawn being manipulated by Cale? I’m not sure yet, but the ending clearly sets the stage for those answers. I seriously can’t wait to see where this goes next!

Excellent start to the second major arc of the book. Diana’s got her crew and a mission - plus an incredible home base! The pieces are in place for a really compelling story.

In addition to all the bad-ass witch stuff, which Thompson and Sherman dole out every issue, I love the subtle characterization of WW’s friends. The subtle tension between Barbara wanting to know more about WW’s world and WW’s protection of the sacred is really interesting. Throw in a really twisted reimagining of Dr. Poison, and we’ve got an insightful story about the confrontation between science and magic brewing.

As Diana settles into the mans world, a mysterious Dr Poison who is some sort of female incorporal being. She lives in a suit of armor similar to the original iron Man.

We also have what appears to be a young Barbara Gordon visiting Diana.

Legit the best series right now, I love everything about this so much. I loved the artist for the last two issues, but damn if I am happy we are back. This artist just fills Diana with such kindness but can immediately shift her into battle at a moments notice, it’s quite amazing and beautiful. In this issue we join Diana in the wilds of gateway city. WAIT?! The what?! Why is there just a full on forest somewhere near gateway city, hahaha of course that is where Diana sets up. And we get to see Diana’s king underused ability to talk to animals, they are all really chill…and using a fleet of pigeons and crows, she is able to setup a fleet to scour the world for the amazons and try and deliver what is left of them a message.

But one thing I love about this issue is the use of shapes, I’m not an expert by any means so I’m not entirely sure of the deeper meaning, but everywhere with Wonder Woman is filled with these beautiful circles with the art blended in seamlessly and completely connecting everyone together…and when we switch over to Veronica Cale in an undisclosed black site, the circles change to triangles. I could be looking into it a bit too much, but I see the triangle as jagged and a symbol of the conspiracies she is so deeply intwined with. It’s kinda funny, but this black site looks like the secret government lab in the movie “the cabin in the woods,” even equipped with the hallway full of elevators. And it seems they have their own monsters down here, one of which has been blowing up Veronica’s email non stop. And here is where we get our first introduction to this worlds Doctor Poison, but this doctor poison is confined to an air tight room and a suit to move around physically, as inside that suit they only exist as a non-corporeal (they don’t like to be called gas, lol) being. Veronica has doctor poison wrapped around her thumb, and as an extra layer of control she restricts doctor poison to the bulky suit made in WW2…even though they have the equipment for a new suit that doctor poison seems to desperately want. But that’s beside the point for today’s interaction, as Veronica has a present for doctor poison she would like her to look at…a recording of the screech from the tetracide. It’s even powerful enough to inflict pain on Doctor poisons gaseous form. As doctor poison gets to work studying it, Veronica leaves to talk to her handler. The handler had one more request from poison which Veronica oddly approved…an exit permit, two hours for fresh soil samples. Hmmmm.

Back in gateway city the rest of the crew follows Steve as he tracks their way through the forest to Diana’s location, she could of easily come to them for the ingredients she needed from Gia, but they wanted to see her home. And it actually turns out she owns the beautiful land they are on, even though it should be worth millions it’s under the name of “Hecate holdings LLC,” as it seems the gods have been playing for her to come her for a long time. But now that she is setup she asks her friends to leave so she may concentrate on her spell. Barbara is the most resilient about leaving as she wants to experience everything about Diana but Steve is able to get her to leave. But no matter as what proceeds is one of the most beautiful two page spreads in all of modern comics, as Diana calls to all of the goddesses and thanks them for blessing the ground she is on and asks for their strength to aid her as she acts as their weapon of truth and Justice. As she speaks this blessing, the ground around her moves and new pillars of stone hidden in the ground rise up in circular formations overtaking the pages to form her new base…know as the Hieron. Even equipped with a set of stairs, it doesn’t take long for the group to come back…and find Diana waiting for them at the front with an invitation for tea.

But as they are enjoying tea in this amazing circular structure…Diana suddenly hears something and orders them to stay there as she flies off to deal with it. As she approaches gateway city she immediately finds the source, tons of tiny robot spiders emitting the sound of the tetracide and terrorizing the people of gateway city. Although the sound is weaker, Diana is astonished that someone would be cruel enough to weaponize and use it on people immediately. “Even gods are rarely so craven.” Dealing with so many spiders at once, going to each person and destroying them individually is not enough. As such Diana uses a spell to make herself very large and very noticeable, which causes all the spiders to start crawling towards her. Immediately they begin to over take her and the feeling of hopelessness they emit began to take her over, but ultimately she was able to fight back, throw down one of her spin moves to throw them off, then follow their clear trail back to the source. She was able to track them all to a building under construction, and as she smashed down the doors to the source her eyes glowed white with anger. But there she found doctor poison in their full suit! Doctor poison begged for mercy and asked Diana to hear her out…especially as she knows where to find an amazon?! WHAT?! That stops Diana cold in her tracks, but I don’t trust poison for a second. She begged Diana not to hit her, but at any moment she could fly out of her suit and fill Diana’s lungs with her own poison. Something she already threatened to do to Veronica. The next story is called “a common enemy,” is it possible that Doctor Poison truly wants Diana’s help? Either way, I am hooked this is amazing.

This was an okay issue and mostly served to set the stage for what is coming in this arc. I liked the introduction of Veronica Cale and I am intrigued to see where she goes within this series. She gives off a strong Amanda Waller vibe, so it will be interesting to watch how she evolves. I am also very interested in learning more about Dr. Poison. I am not sure if they are an established Wonder Woman character, someone I am unfamiliar with, or a brand new character, but their design and power set are very compelling. Diana building her house was cool, though not especially memorable. The idea of Diana beginning to deal with technology and its ramifications is always a fun contrast. Magic versus technology can be very interesting when done correctly. I am excited to have Hayden Sherman back on art and even though this was a building issue, it looked fantastic. I still recommend it, even as a setup issue.

Hayden Sherman retorna a Absolute Wonder Woman tras unos números realmente espectaculares que reafirmaban el carácter neo mitológico de esta Diana que ya se encuentra encaminada en su rol heroíco y ya acompañada por sus conocidos aliados (y potenciales archienemigas). Queriendo encontrar a sus hermanas Amazonas, Diana recurre a un nuevo hechizo de este pasado y formación en esas artes con la bruja Circe en el inframundo. Pero entre medias, atisbamos una nueva amenaza en el horizonte que no proviene del Hades. Kelly Thompson encamina un nuevo arco argumental de su Absolute Wonder Woman ya buscando reinventar la idiosincrasia "terrenal" que irá allanando el camino para que esta Trinidad se reuna.

An interesting start to this arc. I like how Steve is portrayed in this and I liked how wonder woman has to grapple with a much more modern threat to take a break from the previously epic tone.
The return to the previous artist can bee seen and felt. I'm not sure who between them handles the panneling itself but whoever does is a fucking genius and employs the most creative panneling I've ever seen. Congrats to everyone involved.

This is a good and a solid start to the new arc. I’m giving it lower marks just because there is a lot of set-up, but also because the last handful of pages got really wordy all the sudden. A few too many dialogue and caption boxes took me out of the story for a minute via overstatement. However, I have faith the following issues will pick up and this series will continue to be high quality. As always, the art was terrific. I love Sherman’s unique layouts.

Hayden Sherman is back (with the incomparable Jordie Bellaire)! And very welcome! The look of Diana's hair specifically feels like such a trademark of this series.

And the design of these pages and the various details… it's all just so gorgeous.

However, I just keep feeling a little cold on this story. I like this vision of Diana; I just want what she's doing and everything around her to be more compelling.

To be clear: I remain enthusiastically on-board!

It's good. Love the rituals and how she only worship and ask of female goddess.
True feminis at its best.
But... we got genderswap Lex Luthor. Never a fan, more of a hater.
Dr Poison on the other hand... great.
Love her/him. VERY underdeveloped but full of potential, specially in this current version.
Also, clues on the amazons. Finally.

Finally leaving the underworld again for Gateway City, Wonder Woman is establishing herself on the outskirts of the town and having all her friends over for her return.

Meanwhile that happens a new “enemy” seems to be lurking and benefitting on the chaos of the Tetracide that Diana beat previously.

Just another good build up issue, nothing crazy remarkable, but a good read all in all.

This issue presents the notion that humans are crueler than gods. Diana learns how quickly a human with bad intentions can weaponize something to use against a hero who fights for what’s right.

It’s nice to see Diana interacting with nature. The animals love her and she loves them back.

It did end with what could potentially be an interesting team up.

This issue was “ok”. i didn’t find the depth and richness dialogue i found with the previous issue and it felt like i got to hear less of the diana we have grown to love instead closer to moving the plot Diana but it wasn’t bad because i have enjoyed the work setup so far.

Honestly a bit of a slow start to the new arc, and a bit disappointing after the incredible last issue. It was okay. I guess Dr. Poison was the she that wanted out? It makes sense I guess... with the weapon, losing the guards... but yeah, not too impressed with this one.
