What a fantastic book! And what a powerful collection of tools it provides for Leadership teams and not only.

In the articles included, you will find insights on :

* Management innovation and what your company's management approach to innovation requires for innovation to be possible

I’ve just finished ‘HBR’s 10 Must Reads 2015’ and I give it four stars. It’s a dated read but I had it in the box set and I’m glad I read it.

I’m still fixated on Mintzberg’s Emergent Strategy theory that I posted about separately, it argues that there is never a safe and predictable time for strategic planning and thus we must plan and adjust as changes emerge.

The book was very HR focused and articles such as ‘How Google sold its engineers on management’, proving that management is an essential part of any organisation, especially if frameworks are in place to create a team size that stretches the manager too thin to micromanage.

‘21st Century Talent Spotting’ highlights the importance of succession planning, with less than 30% of surveyed managers believing that they had a successor and a significant amount of senior managers being ready to retire in the near future - organisations may not feel the pain now, but how will it be in 2025?

The Goleman article alone is worth the entire book. While aiming at executives, his discussion on the vale and practice of focus are I found personally beneficial.
The article on management at Google should be interesting to anyone who serves on search committees, even if your organization doesn’t have HR statisticians on staff, simply because the company’s managerial values are transferrable and could (maybe?) be hired for.

It is a simple but tried and tested concept; gather up some of the best, most insightful or thoughtful articles of relevance to business people in the past year and republish them.

To some it may appear to be a cheesy or tired concept but it can and does work, especially when the articles come from Harvard Business Review, so you know you are getting “some of the best” articles from a journal that already sets a fairly high bar. Not everybody will be a Harvard Business Review subscriber, so this can be a great introduction to the uninitiated and even for the devout reader it can be an opportunity to swot up on something important.

Naturally, you will possibly experience a feeling of déjà vu as a reader, unless you have the memory of a goldfish, so there is a bonus article about focussed leadership too for a bit of new relief! Whilst some of the titles may be enigmatic, their overall depth and breadth is pleasing and offers a canter through the world of leadership, strategy, innovation and general corporate activity.

This quite slim volume can surely find a space in any executive’s carry-on luggage and be a travel companion whether you are waiting for a delayed business flight somewhere or relaxing by the pool, wanting to read something but not a local supermarket tabloid or your corporate email.

In short, a very nicely priced little volume that can pack a powerful punch, acting as either a revelatory source of information or a considered consolidation of existing knowledge.

This slim volume collects some of the best material about management from the Harvard Business Review in 2015. I am not in the target market as one would who naturally immediately benefit from current thinking on management, yet even I managed to get something out of this book. I particularly enjoyed the article “How Netflix Reinvented HR” by its former chief talent officer Patty McCord in demonstrating that company’s non-traditional way of managing people, was particularly challenged in how I view and use meetings by “Your Scarcest Resource” which highlighted time as a resource rarely tracked and easily eaten, and was provoked by “Contextual Intelligence” which highlighted the dangers of importing ideas wholescale and instead demonstrated the value of looking at underlying ideas.

This book is well worth reading for those in business, especially in management-type roles, and those for whom a fresh thinking about how to improve the way work and business is done (potentially with indirect positive spill-overs to other areas of life).

Compilation of breakthrough business article from HBR. It's 2013-2015 articles but, still wide opening eyes for your business today (2017). My favorite articles are about how netflix acquired&keep the talent. Talent are the most essential and scarcest resource at 21th century.

The other topics that described at the book are Leadership, business model, and many more. Lot of article use difficult terms inside it. I really often opening the dictionary/translation app inside my ebook reader.

This collection of contributions is encouraging in the sense, that the best practice examples shown here, really seem to be worth going for.

If you compare with the current state of many large corporation however, the discouraging downside comes into sight: There s such a long way to go still that may of them will never make it there.

But why shouldn't there be room for newcomers?
