Seventeen-year-old Jake Casey has always been the shield for his family – until the day outlaw Fisher Grady burns his home to the ground and murders his parents.
With his younger brothers in tow, Jake flees into the unforgiving wilderness, his heart set on one vengeance.
But the path to justice is anything but simple.
When Jake crosses paths with Elijah Redfeather, an Apache boy with his own blood feud against Fisher, the two form an uneasy alliance. Together, they navigate a land riddled with danger, where Fisher’s influence stretches far and wide. The outlaw has bought the loyalty of lawmen, turning the region into a lawless wasteland.
Their mission grows even more perilous when they meet Clara Bennett, a sharp-witted survivor with her own reasons for wanting Fisher dead. Clara’s knowledge of the land and of Fisher’s operations becomes their greatest weapon, but her secrets threaten to unravel the fragile trust binding the trio.
As they close in on Fisher, betrayal lurks around every corner and the cost of vengeance grows steeper with each step.
Jake must decide how far he’s willing to go – and who he’s willing to become – to bring Fisher down.
In a world where justice is bought and sold, can ranch boy Jake outwit a kingpin of chaos? Or will Fisher’s reign of terror claim them all?
Each novel in the Western Justice Adventures series is a standalone story, with sprinkles of romance, that can be read out of order.
Jesse Storm in his well admired Series: Western Justice Adventures we have th is extremely interesting storyline & well written shoot-em-up Book of 5 STARS, Ranch Boy Jake. Great characters especially the main 3 characters of 2 young men that were 17 years old & A young lady ranchers daughter who was just a few years older than them. Jake a young man whose father had served & been injured in the Civil War. His father had been left in lots of pain plus had to use a wheelchair to get around just a little bit. They lived on a small ranch along with Jake's mother & 2 younger brothers, who mainly helped his mother in the house & yard around the house. Elijah Redfeather, an Apache Indian, and Clara Bennett who is a rancher's daughter, horse wrangler, now ranch owner since her father passed away.
All 3 are victims of a horrible criminal Fisher Grady who is robbing every rancher in the state using violence to overwhelm the people leaving them broke, scared, intimidated, & often with wounded people if lucky, dead ones if not.
This Fisher himself was part of the group that shot Jake's mother on her porch while she stood next to his father's wheelchair & then his father was shot while in his wheelchair next to her! Neither one were armed & in shock Jake had to crawl out of his house guiding his young brothers, all 3 scared with bullets flying & men yelling at the boys to show themselves while starting the fires to burn the ranch house & buildings down. Elijah Redfeather's Uncle he admired & loved had been shot down in cold blood by Fisher, himself. Then Fisher had sent a gang of men to rob, scare, & humiliate Clara Bennett who was saved by Jake & Elijah.
Together they decided to track Fisher down & either take him to justice or kill him. These 3 endure all kinds of things in the attempt to get this outlaw. Even bounty hunters after them.
Fisher Grady has a plan, get groups of gangs and control Oregon. By intimidating and even murdering farmers, he gains power and he can't get enough of it. Pay off the law, where necessary. He probably should have left 17 yr old Jake Casey's family farm alone. But they didn't, and now Jake's ma and pa are murdered. Jake was able to get his 2 younger brothers and escape. Leaving them with the minister's family, Jake goes on the hunt. A skinny kid, with natural agility, he soon became proficient with his father's old army colt. Grady's men aren't the only bandits he has to deal with as Jake tracks down the outlaw. Thankfully, he had help from an Apache that wanted to kill him too. Both were on a quest to find Fisher Grady, so they joined forces. Approaching a farm house for information, Jake runs straight into a shotgun held by Clara Bennett. Being in the right place at the right time to help her against some bandits, she insists on joining the two men with their search for Fisher Grady. These three turn out to be much more than a thorn in the side of Grady's plans. They were able to get into situations where they could eliminate groups of his men. Very good read!
It wasn’t a bad read but several of the conversations were long winded and repetitive. A couple of events didn’t make sense. The biggest negative, for me, was of the Indian tribe being Apache. There is no historical, or present, evidence of the Apache tribe ever residing in Oregon. They were mostly southwestern US and northern Mexico. Of the nine recognized tribes in Oregon, none are Apache.
