Taylor Andrews is a gifted and precocious 7 year old with a dark secret. She has been caught in the world of an underground child sex ring operating in the middle of a quiet suburban neighborhood 10 minutes outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. In one night her world changes. No one knows she holds the key to unraveling the truth. If she doesn't learn to trust another person the truth may stay buried. Alone is based on a true story- my story. Names have been changed to protect the identities of the innocent...and the damned.
It was a really heart rending personal raw experience to read. Tragic.
It was also hard going as it needs some editing and the layout needs some attention as its two lined spacing which is quite annoying to read [or it was for me].
I would like to thank the author Taylor Andrews for allowing me to read and review this book.
I am unable to say too much about it due to its formatting that superseded the story for me.
This is a true story from the perspective of 7 year old Taylor Andrews, written by her as an adult. It is a story that gives us insight about a crime, but we don't know a lot of details about this crime. We learn that there is some sort of sexual abuse that has gone on, but it is unsure as to what, but definitely something sexual. There were people murdered and Taylor is a witness to it, but she doesn't trust anyone and will not tell what she saw. She goes to art therapy within her own school during recess in order to release her thoughts little by little.
Although this story is really sad and makes you understand what Taylor was going through, the grammar and editing was just poorly done for this book. Also I feel like we don't really get enough of an understanding of much until the very end of the book. It was okay...
Alone: A Human Trafficking Story by Taylor Andrews is a powerful read that is easy to get absorbed into. I found myself emotionally involved almost instantly. There were some lines that hit me deep. Dark, disturbing and yet realistic. I read with a vengeance wanting to know where this heartfelt story would lead me. The author lets us in and I am moved and astonished at the same time.
This feels like such a personal story. I was touched by all the raw emotions that were beautifully and poetically written.
The feelings of a little girl going through it all. We are taken inside Taylor's head and reminded how much damage can be done to an innocent child. Without their permission.
Though disturbing it was written in a way that I had a hard time walking away from this most intriguing read. My heart hurt and at the same time I needed to know more. Much more.
Quote ~
"She didn't want to be a fish out of water. And she didn't want to be 'bad' like her dad anymore. Who should she be then? She stared hard at her reflection, looking for good. Her long blond hair was starting to curl at the ends. She had been the only one that didn't have curls. She had her father's wavy blond hair- a mixture of light and dark. Light and dark made shadows. She didn't want to be full of shadows anymore."
