It seems impossible that anyone on the ground would dare challenge the rule of the Corsairs and their unassailable position in the sky. But far to the east, in the territory of Karneth-upon-the-Seamont Skyhold, the rebel Redhawk and his Underground has done just that. What's more, Redhawk is being helped by the Revenants.
The Sylph has been sent to find Redhawk and end his rebellion. Kale, newly sworn into the Brotherhood with his sky name Mephite, is going with them. On the trip his duty to the airship and her crew wars with his friendship with Avelya, who as a Revenant might be just the enemy the Sylph has been sent to capture.
Meanwhile Avelya struggles with her own choices, as her loyalty to her friends is pitted against her commitment to the Revenants and their cause to bring down the Elders. She's determined to do what's right, no matter the cost to herself, but that determination is frustrated as she tries to figure out just what the right thing is.
Their journey will take them to the edge of the continent, to the breathtaking and deadly Withered Sea. There everything that was simple will become complicated and the greatest threat to the Sylph, and the Protectorate, will come from a source none of them expects.
The author did a lot of research about ancient mythology. EVERY name I googled (and I did a lot) was based after some mythological ones. That's what I like about Ebooks. You have a question? You always have an answer in seconds! I love how the characters have to deal with ethics continually, how they are torn between duty and what they consider good.
