Karen Wood is the author of the five Diamond Spirit books. She has an Arts degree majoring in communications and a diploma in horticulture. She has syndicated a gardening column in several newspapers throughout Australia, has published feature articles in various magazines and has published photographs in bushwalking guides. She is married with two children, a few horses, some dogs, chooks and a very cute rabbit. She lives on a small acreage on the Central Coast, New South Wales, where she spends as much time as possible with kids and horses or at her laptop, dreaming up a new book.
This one is more of a tall tale, great adventure story but not as believable as the first one in the series. I did still enjoy it but the chances of a sixteen year old boy outriding experienced competitors at a camp draft, let alone being able to ride without presenting id and having parental consent are pretty slim. Loved the descriptions of the Australian outback and the brumbies, enjoyed the meeting of the dogs and the lady from the art gallery but could have done without the barb wire trap and putting the mare down with a pocket knife just yuck.
I've never experienced being near a brumby but because of this book I discovered how wonderful they truly are. This is a great second book of the series "Diamond Spirit."
