Amber Lee has a decent life: she lives in a great house, she's about to start school again, her best friend Eliza is pregnant, and the pair of them are Wiccans with a healthy bond. But ever since Eliza moved out of Amber's house and in with her boyfriend Evan, Amber's been feeling a growing pang of loneliness in her chest.
When Damien, a stranger to her town, mysteriously comes into her life bringing with him all manner of strangeness, everything changes. Damien shows Amber a side of her she never knew existed, and ignites in her a spark she hadn't felt in a long time, but he's haunted by a dark secret and a purpose which may prove fatal to them both - and by the time she realizes it, there's no turning back.
Midnight Magick will take you deep into a world of witchcraft and mystery, where bonds are tested, hearts broken and lives lost.

Series FREE on Kindle Unlimited Sexual quotient: can manage this on the commuter circut, a bit of slap and tickle that hots up a couple of times, and although somewhat detailed, isn’t on every second page. A bit of discretion would do the trick. Soundtrack: Every me, Every you https://youtu.be/jJFTdMECtFI?list=RDj... …excellent, and a great completely pertinent vid.
I agonized a bit about giving this a 3.5 or 4. Still can’t make up my mind, but it’s nicely written with a pretty good story, so I’ll go for 4.
The characters were good, including the sexy guys and the sexy sex, with a good support character that provides some comic relief. The story has plenty of magical stuff, and this is one of the reasons I was thinking about the 3.5.
My problem was with all the details in being a Wiccan/Witch. Really, I don’t need all that four corners of the room and the earth mother shit. It’s neither original or interesting. In the brief, sure, in any type of detail it merely makes me skim.
What I liked: I find it really hard to find close to accurate portrayals of Wiccans, so I was infinitely pleased when I realized that the main group of characters we follow are. And it’s done right. There’s no trying to do bad things to people because Witch is synonymous to Wiccan to some, there’s one Wiccan ritual in the book (Mabon) and it was portrayed and explained like it is supposed to happen. I was pleased by the portrayal of the Wiccan Coven. I liked some of the characters as well. Aaron was one of those characters who seemed to keep the reader guessing for a good bit of the time he’s on the pages. Especially after his introduction into the story, I actually thought he was just going to be a source of some form of antagonism but he plays a larger part than just that. Eliza was a fun character when she appeared, she amused me quite a bit thoroughout the story.
What I didn’t like: The plot moved the characters more than the characters moved the plot. This is a big issue with the book, something that I was not pleased with. Some of the characters just didn’t move the plot at all, and the entire end of the book was too hurried and rushed through. There was little mystery to who the killer is, but we did have several loose string tied up because of the hurried ending and there really didn’t seem to be much left to start a second book off of besides the main character’s status as a True Witch. Which, admittedly, that’s likely to have a large set of consequences when it happens. I would have liked to see Amber’s Coven members be more of a part of the story though.
Overall Review:Midnight Magick is an interesting idea for a book with semi-interesting characters. While the plot isn’t all that original, the romance seems less based on attraction for Amber and Damien, and the plot was hurried in places it is carried out in an interesting way that made me more interested in the situation than the characters themselves.
Recommend?: Mmm, no, not really. The story’s idea is interesting but its execution wasn’t what I was exactly hoping for. But, don’t let me stop you from reading it.
This book had potential. The story idea was fine. It was the execution. I couldn't get interested in it. I kept finding other things to do. Unfortunately, this book just wasn't for me.
Awesome new series and author Katerina Martinez! I throughly enjoyed reading this book. It held my interest and it was interesting to see were all the characters were going. I'm very excited to see were this series is going to take us.
I'm DNF-I got this one. While I loved Dark Siren by the same author(s), I just can't seem to get into this one--or give a rat's ass about the plot which just screamed generic. I've gotten through 27% of this piece and... not one da,n thing has happened.
Having read and loved Katerina's books about the witches of New Orleans, I picked this one up expecting the same writing. I didn't learn until after I had finished that this was actually Martinez's first book. It's been dolled up with a new cover and title. True Witch is at its heart a murder-mystery with supernatural elements and college kid drama. Which is quite like high school drama, to be honest. The story is good. I was hooked because I wanted to know who was responsible for the murders, and I'll most likely pick up the other two books in the series (All are a part of the Kindle Unlimited library) to finish the story. My complaint about the book is the characters. Specifically Amber herself. She isn't very likeable at times, and I never really got a good feel for her or the motives behind some of her choices. Without spoiling anything, there are a few scenes with her and a guy, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why there was such a big deal made out of being so secretive and wanting to keep everyone in the dark. Small quibble I guess, but things like that drive me bonkers while I'm trying to immerse myself in a story. Maybe we can chalk it up to the irrationality of teenagers?
I gave this book five stars because it is written from a very believable perspective. As I read I felt almost as though I was there with the protagonist as she experienced trials and learned from then. I came away with unique insight and what I still don't fully understand draws me further into the series.
This book does an excellent job of presenting the Wiccan religion without lots of negative bias. It shows a real veneration of nature and good practices. Amber ends up to be a lot more complex than the average young woman than she first appears (and that doesn't just mean the ability to do real magic). The other characters show many more sides than one first expects. It is nice to see characters who don't fall into the expected slot as they seem when they first appear in the book.
The plot takes a little while to build up speed but it delivers. There are some unexpected surprises as the book goes along, which is always a nice plus.
The town puzzled me. It is presented as a small town where most people recognize each other but that can't be true if the town has a college which by its very nature is transient. Somehow the police noticed Damien was new to town but he can't be the only new student to the college. Also, how is her religion and folklore classes end up having so many people in it, particularly on a graduate level. Just wouldn't happen.
There are plenty of more mysteries to be solved so the next book should be interesting.
well, I have a book buying problem, especially when the title contains "witch" I am always like "gahhhh I have to buy it!!!!" Till I got a ban from buying books till I read my TBR pile so obviously this book was on my TBR pile!
This book is remastered and changed to fit the series as I understand it is also a debut novel.
To be honest I didn't expect too much of it! Surprisingly though it was not too bad. It had a lot of elements romance, friendship, magick which is good, but I felt the focus was more of romance ( it had a few sex scenes which I am always heck yeah!!!) I would want more evolvement to magical things. I mean I read a lot of witch novels so I am always comparing. This books not too bad for a debut novel. It got me hooked and the story for appealing I just wanted more of it. So hopefully the second book gives us more of a back story of what a "true witch" is.
This is a good start to what I'm sure will be an enjoyable series - I already can't wait to read number 2. It's a fast-paced read that introduces us to the characters and their home town, with a puzzle that sets the stage for the next book. I love how much care and research obviously went into the writing of the Wiccan rituals in the novel. While the 'flavors' of paganism I'm familiar with ascribe the elements to different directions and would call the quarters in a different order, the foundation is solid and helped to make the world of the series feel even more real to me. I anticipate enjoying the next book even more.
Normally I don't leave reviews (especially bad ones), but I just couldn't keep reading this. First, it was hard to settle into. But I figured I would give it a chance and keep reading, in case it was just one of those books that take a minute to hook you. I got to page 17. What did me in was the character description. On page 15 she's described as having copper hair, but on page 17 all of a sudden it's auburn. Yes, I realize that is trivial, but if the author (and editor) can't even keep track of the main character's description over the course of two pages, how can a reader expect them to keep track of things over the course of the whole book?
This was a steady easy read. I wouldn’t say it’s a quick read because it’s definitely not. It does, however, has a steady pace of events that unravels as the story goes.
The characters were given a more general outline of who they are and where they came from. A little intro background to each of them without giving too much up. I want to know where they all stand and what role will they play towards the big picture. I hope that’s not the end for Aaron. He kind of grew on me towards the end.
I really love this book I also am a big fan of Katerina Martinez I love the book gives you a little bit of suspense and a little bit of romance it doesn't overpower you with romance or overpower you with all the questions and all the mystery it's a really great balance of the two I would recommend this book for anybody who loves paranormal romance and mystery and FYI Damien is so hot
This was a re-read for me and I enjoyed Amber's secret sass.
The drama of being interested in a guy who teaches her that she is a True Witch aka a born witch rather than a learned witch with less power who also has a girlfriend in the picture is rather dramatic.
The mystery of who is killing random girls who turn out to be witches was rather interesting.
Very easy to read that goes quickly and was very enjoyable.
Katerina Martinez is a newer author to me but I have enjoyed all of her books very much that I have read. So going into True Witch I know that I was going to enjoy this. I did!!
True Witch will light your interest, and get you hooked. We have great characters, mystery, surprises and a good plot. I cannot wait to read more!!
I gave this five stars because it was entertaining. I liked Amber and her friends, especially when Damien turned up. I enjoyed getting to know them and look forward to continuing the journey with the next book.
Fast paced and I love the mystery behind it!!! Would write more but it's just one of those books you should just read to find out. Not one of the best books I've read of it's genre but still really good.
I wanted to like this based on the author's name alone. Then I tried to ignore the writing style because other reviews said it would be good. But I can't. I gave it 70 pages where I skimmed the awkward conversations hoping to get to the meat of the mystery and I realized that I just don't care.
I do love a good mystery, and it was an interesting spin on Wicca. I would recommend it. Seriously, though... Doctor Martins? I've never heard anyone use the non-abbreviated version. It bothered me a little every time I saw it on the page.
Such imagination to spin a fantastic story. Brought me right into the characters lives making me feel with one with the main person . I hope to read the next book soon.
I was surprised that this is the Author's first book, it has great characters and the story although starting off calm, gathers speed until it is rushing along at a breakneck speed, witches and romance, I couldn't put it down.
I loved the imagery and couldn't put it down.I highly recommend it!
I loved this book. The imagery was great and the words flowed. It's been a while since I've read a fiction book that kept my attention.I highly recommend it.
Easy read. Not the biggest fan of the author's style. Some errors that should have been picked up on during editing. The rest of the series is free on kindle unlimited so I'm going to read at least the second one.
Oh I just another great author. I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I love the characters and the story. I just downloaded the next four books. Can't wait to start book two.
Much more adult than Katerian Martinez' other series. It's a good representation of the fumbling that goes on in the life of a new adult. Lots of mistakes, lots of passion, it's just that theirs is amped up by magick!
I liked the story and the characters. I appreciate that the book wrapped up this story even though its a series. Too many series books end on cliffhangers now and this one didn't.
Amber's life is in danger. Damien a new friend of Amber tells her about his sister's death. The killer is the sheriff. I recommend this book. It is worth a 5 star.
