You know it’s going to be a bad day when you get shot at — twice. Hunter Wolfsbane, Duke of Haverstone, also known as “Wolf” is having exactly one of those days. Things take a turn for the worse when he’s notified that he’ll be acquiring a partner for his newest mission. The rub? He’s kissed her — twice. In his defense, she was already ruined, but it didn’t help matters that she was the sister-in-law to his best friend in the world.
And how does a woman protect her heart from one who has the power to destroy every-thing she holds dear?
Lady Gwendolyn has only one thing on her mind — finding the Wolf and strangling him where he stands. Unfortunately, she needs him to complete one final mission for the Crown and to keep her family safe. It has absolutely nothing to do with her attraction to him, or his golden eyes, or his wicked smile, or the fact that he’s convinced to keep his heart encased in ice — that is, if he still possesses one.
I stalked Amazon like crazy the day this book was released.
This is the third book in the London Fairy Tales series and is reminiscent of Little Red Riding Hood. What I loved most about this book is that it explained what happened to Gwen during it's predecessors and how she and Hunter met.
At the start of each chapter there is a note written from Red to Hunter or vice versa. They are SO. AMUSING.
I think Gwen may be my favorite sister. She's bold, vivacious, and definitely not afraid to do whatever she can to save her family, even if it means ruining her own reputation with insinuations and lies. The chemistry between Hunter and Gwen is so evident and is like a long fuse on dynamite...you hold your breath for so long waiting for the BOOM! and when it happens you can finally breathe in relief...and then fan yourself.
Hunter is just amusing, but at the same time he's vulnerable in ways no one can see - except for Gwen. He has no real family, except for a former grandfather by marriage. That kind of confused me because no one really considers their spouse's grandparents their own or that they owe them anything if the spouse is no longer in the picture. But regardless, Lainhart and his butler were a nice addition to the story and amused me at times.
I wanted to stomp Stephan's toes a time or two and tell him to be nice! Dominique even earned a raised eyebrow or two because of his actions...but at the same time it was nice to see them trying to protect Gwen.
I really, really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read number four.
I am a huge fan of the London Fairytale series by Rachel Van Dyken. I have been so excited for Hunter's story to come out. I am thrilled that Ms. Van Dyken has major skills and gets her books out quickly. So, I didn't have to wait long. The Wolf's Pursuit is a retelling of little red riding hood! This story is filled with mystery, romance and such funny banter! I was thrilled that Gwen and Hunter don't care for each other. It makes the tension between the two as thick as a milk shake! I thought I would figure out who the mole was sooner in the story. I was surprised at the motive the mole had. So, if you want an adventure with two spies that sparks fly between the two. I would highly recommend this read! I think this story stands alone nicely but I personally think it best to read these stories in order. So you can keep up will the other characters. I am sitting on the edge of me seat waiting for the next installment of the London Fairytale series!!! I just can't get enough of Rachel Van Dyken's writing!
I have been anxiously waiting for this latest installment of the London Fairy Tales and I have to say Rachel did not disappoint! This book made me lose my breath for 2 reasons...The first was because I was laughing so hard and the 2nd because I was so tangled up with the characters that when something happened I literally would gasp! Rachel definitly brings her characters to life! This book told the story of Hunter (the wolf) and Gwen (red) 2 spies for England during war with France. Hunter believes his past will prevent him from having any sort of a good future while Gwen believes because of her spy work she will never be pure enough for a husband...these two were certainly made for each other but will they be truly able to overcome their pasts and create a future together or will Hunter once again be too late? I recommend reading this 3rd installment of the London Fairy Tales as Rachel brings in well loved characters from her past works :)
3.5*** Red— For you… I'd wait forever. —Wolf [image error] "How do I know that the Wolf is not leading me down a path of destruction?" "Oh, you can be sure he is, but it will be such a lovely destruction, I doubt you will care." "Oh?" Gwen bit her lip. "Yes. I aim to make you forget reality for a while, Red." "And how do you plan to do that?" She placed her hand in his as he began leading her through the small forest in his entryway and farther into the house. "By becoming your dreams." [image error]
If you're looking for a tortured hero story, look no further. Hunter is definitely a tortured soul, spending his life behind a mask of foolishness just to hide his pain from the world. And trust me when I tell you, his pain seems fathomless at times.
Even though I liked Hunter a LOT I spent a good amount of time in this story confused at the complete 180 that occurs with his and Gwen's relationship. To be honest I got the lust part, but never understood the sudden love they felt.
The ending was a bit confusing as well. I think more editing could have helped as characters were in rooms and leaving then appearing again suddenly with no explanation. It got a bit hairy.
I'm truly looking forward to Ash's story next. Van Dyken certainly set him up as a character with a past we want to uncover.
RVD can often be a difficult author for me to read. Throughout the book it's hit and miss. Sometimes the passionate make out scenes are a real turn off and other times it hits the spot. The plot has it's usual "Say what?" moments but it was a fun way to pass a Sunday afternoon. No regrets.
Gwen and Hunter have a very fiery relationship.
He cursed but continued to kiss her. "I hate you," she murmured. "I hate you too," he agreed,
Hunter is such a bastard. Absolutely incorrigible. He's not as funny as he was in the previous book, mainly because his backstory is so sad. He's so sad.
Throughout the book, Montmouth and Dominic from Book 1 and 2 are constantly trying to look after Gwen and make sure Hunter keeps his hands off her.
Sexual Content: Very edgy but no graphic sex scenes.
Typical of a Rachel van Dyken book, I really enjoyed this book and found myself lost in it. Her writing style lets you feel like you are actually in the book watching the action as it unfolds. Hunter is a character who you can't help but feel sorry for and Gwen is one that you just want to be happy. The fact that I skipped reading Book 2 in London's Fairy Tales didn't hurt at all. Although I do have to go back to read it because I just have to read about Dominique and Isabella. Now, I have to wait for the release of the next book because I simply cannot wait to read more about Ash.
I loved this book. Some steamy parts, but when it starts to get steamy, it ends. From the book: Lady Gwendolyn has only one thing on her mind--Finding the Wolf and strangling him where he stands. Unfortunately, she needs him to complete one final mission for the Crown and to keep her family safe. It has absolutely nothing to do with her attraction to him, or his golden eyes, or his wicked smile, or the fact that he’s convinced to keep his heart encased in ice—that is, if he still possesses one.
This is an interesting read with enough action, mystery and foreplay to keep one hooked till the end. Like the other books in the series, it is the reworking of a popular fairy tale and this time it is "The Red Riding Hood" Hunter 'the Wolf' and Lady Gwendolen 'Red' are perfect for each other and are more alike than they realize. Their witty banter and innuendos are hilarious. Even without any explicit description of the actual act, there is a lot of sexual tension and chemistry between them. It is a treat to watch Red and the Wolf work together.
This is my favorite book, ever!! I loved HUNTER!! I have never fell in love with a fictional character. This book is amazing. I cannot even think of words to do it justice. I promise this book will not let you down. You will laugh, cry, and even get a little mad at times, but I know you will love this book. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!
I love, love, loved this book! It just seems like Rachel Van Dyken's London Fairy Tales Series keeps getting better, stronger, and harder to put down with each book that she writes! It took me falling asleep for the night, to put down the book--it is that good!
If you haven't read Rachel Van Dykens old timey romances you are really missing out. I stumbled across them when I saw she was going to be at a book signing I went to last year and I am so glad I did. I love them. All of them. They are just so much fun!
The Wolf's Pursuit was a great read. Wolf and Red were amazing! They are so much fun!! Now first things first - I normally am not a fan of things at the beginning of chapters. Quotes and such. I normally will just skip them as I am just meh on them in general. But this story had little notes between Red and Wolf and they were so much fun! I actually looked forward to them!
Gwen and Hunter were so much fun! They are both spies, though no one really knows that. Gwen woud do anything for those she cares about and she thinks that because she is a spy she will never be good enough for a husband. And Hunter thinks his past will prevent him from having a happily ever after future. These two were perfect together. They have some history, but phew they are also hot hot hot! And so much fun! I can't say that enough. The situations they are in, the conversations, everything that happens is just plain awesome. Plus I loved seeing Dominique and Isabelle from the last book, both of whom I loved!
All of the author's old-timey stories are fantastic and this one is no different. If you are a RVD fan you should check them out. They are by far my favorite genre she writes. I have loved every one I have read. Silly, fun, ridiculous, hot and sexy, and just plain great!
I love fairytales to me they are just so…magical with the added bonus of romance and of course a HEA. So, I decided to give this series a try. I simply enjoyed Ms. Van Dyken’s take on Red Riding Hood. She used the premise of spies for the main characters Red and Wolf or in the real world Gwen and Hunter.
The element of fun that she added to this story had the characters waltzing around each other just as you would expect Red and Wolf to do. The sparring that went on within the conversations between these two was witty and very entertaining. I enjoyed the added element of sexy without going overboard…clean alluding to what was going on leaving it all to your imagination; which I like. Ms. Van Dyken has a natural way of telling a story that brings it to life which makes for a very interesting and entertaining story. I was kept driven to stay up and finish the story well past my bedtime.
Grab a glass of wine and settle in for a simply enjoyable story of Red Riding Hood.
The story wasn't that bad. I liked the plot, but the execution was just awful. The conversations between Hunter and Gwen were disconnected and all over the place. The fact that she was threatening him, then kissing him, then getting angry at him, then lusting after him was just too tiring to read and follow. I didn't like Hunter's personality at all. Since when is it sexy when a man bites his lip? That's just too cringe, honestly. The only time I liked the exchange between them was in the last 2 chapters cause it actually made sense and was easy to follow. As for the plot twist, it wasn't much of one. It was really obvious that Wilkins was a bad apple, and the fact that Hunter didn't discover it sooner really spoke of his ability as a spy.
The plot had potential, but the author just butchered it. I hope she does better with Ash's story.

Spy versus spy or Red meets Wolf. It's all relevant in this game. A giant chess game between two top English spies, but something has gone sour and they are assigned to find out what or who is trading British secrets to the French. All must be done under the guise of the lovely Red having a proper season in the ton and the famous rake Hunter pretending interest in the beauty. Of course this is a romance so eventually the pretense becomes a real attraction especially after he has to ward off other potential suitors who just might be traitors. Working together, they have to unravel coded messages, the subtle messages of society, and the tangle of uncharted emotions the feel for each other. Plus try to determine who the real traitor is and why. interesting and fast read.
Maybe if one read the first in the series ? Writing was true to period novels. The storyline was left for clarification, lack of information regarding characters background left confusion. Need for more development
The Wolf and Red are Hunter and Gwen. Lots of intrigue and sensuality. There are characters from the previous books that add to the story. I found it interesting. A good story.
This was just a fun short romp. Some of it doesn't make sense like how could she as a good spy still escape with her virginity intact? but really who cares? Like I said short fun and silly...
I loved this book! I tell ya this series just gets better and better. I love that these stories could have happened. It's not like the typical fairy tales. I think this one may be my favourite one so far. They are both so bad ass and I love it! Can't wait to start the next book!
