Absolute kudos to Anji Matono for not only coming up with 100 individual ghost stories, but also pulling off a master class in subtle story telling!
Yuma only had a few pages at the beginning and the end of every chapter, but it was enough to keep me hooked all the way to the end. I so wanted to know what was up with him and I had a lot of guesses along the way. The closer I got to the end, the more I thought I'd figured out and I did turn out to be right! (Hear me out, a good twist ending it one the reader can see coming because it means the pieces were all laid out.) The usage of the static visual of Yuma's room was perfect right up until the end, keeping the horror off screen.
The ghost stories themselves can be hit or miss depending on your preferences. I really enjoyed 'Ghost Photo' and 'Perfect Copy.' 'Kokkuri-San' and 'Hanako of the Toilet' are both staple Japanese ghosts that even I know about so it was nice to see them in the final volume.
This series was definitely worth a read. 4/5 overall.
