Vain #1-3

Vain: The Complete Series

Rate this book
Part one:

Sex.

That's all Noah Foster wanted when Alexa Jackson showed up at his apartment.

After returning from a semester in Paris, Alexa is back in her hometown of Boston and looking for anything but the drama that surrounds Noah. He's intense, gifted, famous and a bastard through and through.

Alexa doesn't take life too seriously. Noah doesn't do calm and easygoing.

Their unexpected meeting sets them both on a course towards an unlikely connection. As Noah embarks on a journey to teach school teacher Alexa the ways of his dark and mysterious world, she's fighting her own demons and the memory of a stranger in Paris.

When Alexa's past suddenly becomes her present, she's forced to face the reality of whether the passionate moments she's spent in Noah's arms, in his bed, and in his life mean anything to him, or has it all been in vain?

Part Two:

Posing nude for the illustrious Noah Foster seemed like an exciting escape from Alexa's life. No one was supposed to find out, but when the one man who owned her heart, discovers her secret, everything changes. Alexa is not only caught in a compromising position but in a situation in which her past and present collide.

Determined to build a future for herself, she takes on the dual task of focusing on her career and burying her past regrets. It's never that easy though, and Noah Foster doesn't give up when he sets his sight on something or someone.

As Alexa chases after her own dreams, both men in her life pursue her in a reckless fight to the emotional finish.

When one man offers her a proposal almost too tempting to resist, she makes a decision that brings her face-to-face with an unexpected reality.

Part Three:

Alexa Jackson was falling hard and fast for Noah Foster. The world renowned photographer had woven a path straight into her heart. He offered her another chance at love and she offered him the path to a world that he no longer believed existed for him.

That all ground to a startling halt when Alexa came face-to-face with Noah's past. Not everything is as it seems and as he helps her piece together the puzzles that exist within his world, they both realize that their needs might not match what's best for either of them.

As Alexa begins a new life away from Noah, she's faced with new opportunity, past reminders and an uncertain future.

He can't face what's happened to him. She can't face a life without him. Will they finally discover a way to help one another find love again?

Deborah Bladon had never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She was a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you could often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan was definitely her second home.

She cherished her family and believed that each day was a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.

God, this book was fucked up! The story was all over the place!

- H was a photographer who clicked photos of nude women and sold the portraits, it seems he was very famous for it.

- h was still studying and wanted to become a teacher, she also sometimes became a delivery girl for her friend where she delivers sandwiches and that's how she met hero where he answered the door all nude and mistook the heroine for the call girl.

- H is always nude whenever he opens the door so just imagine how many women and men have seen him like that.

- The most fucked up thing was, when h was giving head to H for the first time, he was comparing her to his ex-girlfriend where he told her she gives an amazing blow job and is better that his ex.

-That's not all, H only got with h because of the similar faces h shared with his ex, basically h was almost a twin to his ex, the H says that himself.

- He had a best friend who is a girl, he even did her nude photoshoot while he was nude along with her but they didn't have sex! So basically H is always nude when he is clicking nude photos of the models because he is comfortable like that, he has seen many hookers and nude women turned on as he spoke about their sex life, I can't even say or put it into words on how fucked up this whole book was.

- Not only that, as I said this book was all over the place, h had an ex who was also H's best friend and he had cheated on h with some women so h was obviously his second choice, just like that h was also the second choice of H because he always compared her with his ex, he even got together with her because of their semblance to one another as I said.

-And good lord, the h, that woman had no backbone, she always went back crawling to the H who is always naked and his cock always erect with all the woman he photographs, I've no idea why he clicks the photographs naked!

-H had a huge scar on his face because he had killed a man who was trying to kill his ex who looked like h, so basically he was trying to save his ex's life and in that fight, he got a scar on his face, and he is super insecure about that but he has no problem roaming around naked.

There's so much more to say but I don't wanna remember the book again, I get riled up just thinking about all the things in this book!

Vain Book 1 (4 Stars)
When Alexa offers to drop off a delivery for her friend, she has no idea that she would be knocking on the door of the famous recluse photographer, Noah Foster. When the same Noah Forster opens the door completely naked and mistakenly takes Alexa for something else, things become a bit more challenging. Alexa is shocked but enticed by this recluse of a man. Noah is taken aback by the smart witted Alexa and offers her a contract where she can make money. Alexa can’t deny the man looks like a mythical creature with his defined body, beautiful tattoos and large appendage. However Alexa is still heartbroken over her failed romance in Paris. Could Noah Foster be just what she needs to get over this? Noah is arrogant and full of himself to a degree, but there is a secret he is keeping. Alexa wears her heart on her sleeve and makes no apology for who she is. You will feel for her, what she went through in Paris was shocking but I am sure there is more to the story. Will her past come back to bite her? Overall, this was a really enticing read, with plenty of mysteriousness, angst and suspense.

Vain Book2 (4 Stars)
Alexa arrives at the show in New York while waiting patiently for Noah. Instead her past arrives. Beck makes no secret that he wants her back. Noah seems to have a flock of woman vying for his attention and all seem to look a lot similar to Alexa. After the disastrous New York weekend, Noah starts to open up a bit more. He tells Alexa about his scar and she understands his insecurities. He seems besotted with Alexa and their relationship seems to grow. However there seem to be a few warning signs along the way. First Beck warns her. Then Ari, who is supposed to be Noah’s best friend, also warns her. It seems that everyone still believes that Camilla has a hold over Noah. When Noah decides to do something out of his comfort zone, Alexa is thrilled until she arrives for their date. What Noah did to Alexa was soul destroying and you will have empathy for her. This books ends on a cliff hanger and you really will be left feeling rather perplexed over Noah and what he has done. Can he redeem himself in book3? Can Alexa get to the bottom of this or should she run as fast as she can to get away? The author has done a superb job of once again, enticing the reader. There is so much mystery and suspense. I am looking forward to book 3.

Vain Book 3 (2 Stars)
Alexa wants answers but Noah does not give them. Deciding to move on with her life she moves to NY where she takes up a job as a substitute teacher along with waitressing. Months later, Noah makes contact with her; she goes running back to him. And for me personally this is where the book fell flat. Noah explains his insecurities and his guilt for his past. While I can understand this, it does not explain everything. What was his obsession of always being naked? With his insecurities, why then, did every girl look like his ex? There is a love story but for some reason there was no chemistry. I also did not feel that Noah paid for his sins with regards to what he put Alexa through. Especially knowing what she went through with Beck.. I wanted Noah to step out of his comfort zone and fight for Alexa, which he did not really do. Instead Alexa always went back and never really made him work for her love. The third book for me was not great, there were editing issues as well as the story felt forced. We do get our HEA and the author wraps up the story, but again I felt like something was missing. Overall it was okay.

Really liked it. It had many moments where it tasted alot like Sylvia Day's Crossfire series. But this story line & characters were more down to earth - and the story line didn't drag on forever... gotta love those damaged beyond repair couples, andthe journey they take to find / fight for their HEA's.

If you liked Crossfire books - you'll love these..tamped down ,more realistic versions.

This was the first Deborah Bladon book I read, didn't realise there was an order as such as some of the characters appear in each of her books. Was a fantastic read, and got me hooked. I have bought most of the paperbacks, read Obsessed saga and am now on the Exposed saga. Brilliant quick story to loose yourself in.

Vain...aptly titled

I liked this series but didn't love it...I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I would've liked to have dived into their relationship a little more. Nonetheless still a good read and especially since the series is so cheap.

Vain is simply a great light read. There’s no twists or turns or surprises that comes out of nowhere, but its a good read none the less.

I first listen to Vain as an audio, and I really liked it, and many months later I tried to remember who the bad boy sexy photographer with the god like junk was, and the author. Glad I found out that is was Vain by Deborah Bladon.

They say the key to ensnare your readers from the very start is to have something that captures them, and Deborah certainly did that with her very first sentence:
“Your staring at my dick”.
Hey, what can I say? I was hooked.

The hero of the book is Noah, a bad boy who hires hookers that only are blue eyed with long blond hair, and when they go to his apartment, he decides to either fuck them, or photograph them. It’s either one or the other, but never both. Enter the heroine, Alexa, who poses a dilemma, Noah wants both to photograph her and fuck her, when she lands at his door delivering sandwiches, of all things.

The book is very much the title, vain, and maybe a little bit more. It’s about ones man pursuit of capturing perfection on film, and exhibiting his work. Due to an experience that could have ended his life, and that of the woman he was in love with, he was left with knife woulds on his body and one that ran down his cheek. He thought of himself as being perfect prior to the assault, but not anymore.

“ "I chase perfection. It's why I'm the way I am."
Before this conversation I'd absorb that statement as swollen arrogance but not now. "You want perfection because you don't think you'll ever be perfect?"
"I used to be." He sounds distant. "I'm not now."
"No one is." …. In his convoluted, world famous photographer mind he may think he was once perfect, but that's simply not true. Hasn't anyone ever told him that before?
"I once was." He stalls as his eyes scan my face. "I once was as perfect as you." “

Noah is in self imposed home prison, because he cant face being in society with his marred appearance. Then along comes Alexa, who knows nothing of Noah, his profession, and isn’t that vain that she can’t look beyond a scar, or empathise. Alexa loves life, and isn’t as self centred. Slowly she coaxes him out of his penthouse apartment.

The other vanity that comes into play is an emotional one. Conflict and jealousy arises when it’s found out that Alexa was intimate with Beck, Noah’s longest and best friend.

All in all, I loved the book, and I’m likely to come back again to read.

I enjoyed the series, however I was discouraged by the repetitiveness of it. Noah repeatedly had to defend himself even before any circumstance arose to question him. I understood the need Alexa felt to do so, but it became, shall I say, annoying? I also don't feel that Alexa went through a process of growth. She kept her same insecurities up to the end, and if the occasion arises after in their imagined story it will rear it's ugly head.
Other than that, the connection between the characters was there. I enjoyed the little things that made them and their story unique.

not my favorite

This was not one of my favorite oops by this author. For me there was too much angst and although I really liked the in a later book, I did not care for either character in this one. She was too much of a glutton for punishment and I did not like the relationship she had with Sadie or Kayla. It just fell flat for me. Too many secrets from friends who had odd opinions of what was happening with Alexa. One minute Her friends husband didn’t like her, the next he offered her a job in his NY restaurant. I felt like there were too many loose ends

WHY

The book was engaging and held my attention. I genuinely loved it. I saw you had an extended epilogue. I was greedy to read it.

IT RUINED EVERYTHING!!! Why why why would you make her infertile? Noah wanted children so badly…. Just left an awful taste in my mouth. I know this stuff happens in the real world. But it 100% tainted this book in every way possible.

Scarred

Alexa is sent to deliver a sandwich when she meets her future. There aren't clothing rules pertaining to a paying customer. Alexa and the renowned photographer Noah Foster must work through problems.

The plot and the characters were good I guess I just hated how it was divided into three super short books when it could’ve been one regular length book. There were a lot of jumps between chapters and sudden conversations that wasnt contextualized before

Could. Not. Put. It. Down! This story has all the feels. A recluse artist and an almost teacher. These two would be so good together but their separate pasts keep pulling them apart. Five stars!

Noah Foster is shockingly well shocking. He’s tainted and deeply scared and his very first words are beyond hot; “You’re staring at my dick.” He’s so matter of fact. I can’t help but respect that. He’s dark and edgy, that’s what Bladon tells us and she is so not wrong. Noah is a man like no other. He’s cocky. 100% arrogant. Alpha Male Extraordinaire. This book is definitely one of my favourites.
Alexa is young and has just gotten out of a relationship when she first meets Noah. He opens his door and he’s completely naked. Who would have thought one of my favourite books could start with a sandwich???
Alexa has a choice to make; money or sex. Noah’s a photographer so there is loads of sexy moments with his camera, not to mention he’s always naked. Alexa isn’t your typical innocent heroine. She tells Noah as much. She likes sex. She’s sexually aware and her thoughts are pretty hot.
This book was heart wrenching. As always there are cliffhangers that kill – especially when you have to wait for the next part in the serial. Noah breaks his own word, his own boundaries to the point where I want to shout and rage at him only to learn that I might be wrong and as if that’s not enough Alexia’s ex has followed her back from Paris... it’s just a nightmare for a little while.
In fact it’s a nightmare for a long while. Instead of waking up, I just go deeper and deeper into the darkness that is Noah Foster. Then just when I think there is no light. Alexa leaves and finds herself in New York but it’s dark there too but now it’s a new darkness; it’s the darkness that comes when Noah Foster isn’t in your life.
I love this series more than I can tell you. The cliffhangers almost killed me but it was well worth it in the end.

I spent a good part of this book rolling my eyes because so far in every book I have read by this author the first scene includes crude sexual propositions by her lead male character. I have also noticed that all of her male characters think with their anatomy, treat women like commodities, and her female characters dress and act like they’re trolling for customers. I had to laugh when Alexis asks herself why she gets screwed over by men when she’s always happy to get screwed by any man. What message does this kind of behavior have on our society? I know this is just a book and that the male character is usually redeemed at the end of the story but surely there are other themes for the author to write about? Alexis and Noah’s story deals with the trauma of a reclusive and badly scarred artist and there is more character development than in previous books and her storytelling has improved. I liked the evolution of Alexis and Noah’s relationship and their personal growth as a couple but I’m looking for a lot more in her stories in the future.

...Soooo, much to my surprise, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed that!

I particularly enjoyed that Alexa, wasn't the shy virginal (I've only ever been kissed by one guy and totally lost my virginity by accident when i slipped and fell on my high school sweethearts' penis) type.

She's a modern girl, who's had herself some of the bid'ness before - but she's not some skanky whore either! I totally loved her.

If i have one complaint, its a teeny one and didn't take away from the book too much for me - and that was Noah's obsession with walking around
"butt - nekkid" all day (answering the door with his Johnson singin' "swing lo sweet chariot" just didn't ring true for me, considering that he was pretty much a recluse) ... Oh! That ...and the whole book being centered around him being a recluse and being unable to go out into the world so much so that he - but then he, apparently, had no problem going to the opening of his show in New York...?

Other than those wee tiny babee issues, i can give this book two thumbs up!!

Needed more hot doctor. But really, maybe I shouldn't be reading this series backwards because reading about Kayla was disorienting and trying to envision Noah transform into the character he will be was just weird. I guess I'm still going backwards though, so Sadie's story next....that will be interesting.

On the other hand, I might be glad that I'm reading them backwards. These 3 parts felt a lot less polished than the next series. I found many typos that made me want to strangle whoever edited this thing (those missing and erroneous commas just kept taking me right out of the story!). Also, knowing all the shit that goes down in the next part, I was a little more surprised that Noah wasn't more fucked up than he was/none of that was even alluded to in this book. Meh. This story was a little convoluted and I almost couldn't bring myself to give a fuck about Camilla/Ari/Beck - just kind of wanted them all to go away.

OMG WTF did I just read and how do I get those hours back!
The hero walks around naked all the time for no freaking reason. It's kinda sexy at first and then it just gets WEIRD. He says "I like looking at my dick.".......huh?
The heroine is totally a wishy-washy wounded puppy who has trust issues in a relationship and is just waiting to get hurt by a man again and when it happens she's shocked. Like chick, ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy?
And when hero kicks her to the curb, she sits around just waiting, like 4 months for him to call *seriously* o.O
And when hero shows back up *boom* all is forgiven. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.
Think nudist, agoraphobic, photographer meets doormat, wannabe-teacher that jumps from bed to bed, relationship to relationship in some twisted form of self punishment.
Can you hear my theoretical kindle hitting the wall?
What utter crap!

3 solid stars!

All in all I really liked this series.

A lot of drama, which to me was a 'bit' excessive for my taste in this case.

The story line was fetching :)

The urge to kick both the main characters' a$$es remained with me until the very end; and continued, thereafter, in the small Vain novella, which consistently seemed to adhere to the main theme of 'a lot of unwarranted drama' for those two!

I mean, even though their story had taken a bit of tragic turns, I was happy to read the happily-ever-after in the end.

Not my favorite of the series, but nonetheless, I liked it a whole lot more than I thought I would.

Cheers!
