Wild Heat #2

For the Love of a Fireman

Rate this book
Molly Devon, a website designer, and her absent-minded father travel to Florida for two months of sun and sand. She wants to nurse a broken heart, and both need to scatter her mother’s ashes—if only her father can recall where he put them!

Grey Barclay, fireman and diver for the Marine Rescue Unit, is slowly remodeling Barclay Beach Bungalows, five little rental cottages he inherited from his uncle. It’s just his luck the first cabin he rents is to a prickly female and her daffy dad! Still, the money looks good in his bank account . . . that is until Molly’s ex-fiancé turns up dead on Grey’s beach.

The police are asking some hard questions but Molly’s providing plenty of soft excuses, and when one of Grey’s bungalows catches fire, Molly is trapped inside, adding fuel to the firestorm of guilt surrounding her.

Grey’s not convinced though. He may be a sucker for a set of well-rounded hips and azure eyes, the color of the ocean, but in the short time he’s known Molly he can see behind the cold façade to a warmth and gentleness that’s hard to resist.

This fireman’s hell-bent on proving her innocence—and keeping her by his side.

Our girl is a tad bit grumpy in the mornings, "I'm hungry and grumpy. And if you call me Sugar again, so help me God, I'll rip your balls off." The things Barclay and Molly text each other, "every time I text u give me a hardon." The thing I loved most about Barclay well besides what that boy is packing is his sense of humor, "you were trying to feel how big my hard-on is. And I'll have you know I'm going commando tonight, so don't take advantage." Sometimes Molly has to tempt the beast especially on movie night, "once James Bond started, she cupped Barclay's manhood. He choked on his drink. "Sugar, what are you doing?" I can't wait for the next book in this series I don't think there was a character that I didn't like and I'm always wanting to know their stories and see more of them.

Nobody knows better than a fireman how best to start a fire...and how to put it out...again, and again, and again... Vonnie Davis brings the heat, all the feels and deep personal insights into the lives of fireman and former Army Ranger Barclay Gray and the indomitable Molly Devon, cashier and web developer with a father descending into dementia - and a secret that's far darker and more dangerous than even she knows.

From the opening hook, through comic punches that will make you squeal, and spectacular plot twists you will never once see coming, to the closing HEA, their love story is a five-alarm wild ride. To me, the beauty is in the details one can only get from actually doing the research, and Davis clearly does her homework on the lives of firefighters and the women they love. Damsels in distress, at times, yes; mutually supportive to their firefighters and their firehouse families, yes; all shapes, sizes and talents, yes; wimps, hell to the no! If you loved 50 Shades of Gray, grab this book! PS, I was gifted this red hot romance for my 50th - merci beaucoups, dear friend! <3

Barclay Grey, is a divorced from his wife, after they lost their baby, he and his wife grieved, but Yvette is wife found comfort in another man's arms, and drugs. He works on a special unit for the fire department, where he is a diver, and knows about explosives, and how to defuse them, from his years as a Navy SEAL, his fellow fireman use to call him Ghost, as a nickname, because of the way he was able to get in and out of any location without being seen or heard, that nickname has changed since his divorce with Yvette to Ice Man. Where he once cared for everyone that lived in their small Florida community, he now does his job, almost running on instinct, and though he still cares about people, he isn't interested in having a having a woman in his life, at least not one to bring home and share a life with, he's certain he doesn't ever want to be close to another woman or to have a family.

He owns a few dogs, all females and all rescue dogs, he feels they are enough of company for him, especially since he works 48 hours straight, he has a friend named Milt that takes care of them while he is at work, he's an older man, a widower. He had a very bad childhood, and often spent time with his uncle, who owned cottages he use to rent, that's where Barclay found peace, and his unwed uncle was more like a father to him. When his uncle passed away he left him the cottages, knowing how much Barclay loved them. He made his dogs run around the grounds while he was doing some renovations on the cottages, and they got sprayed by a very unhappy skunk. He used his computer to find out what he could bath them in to get rid of the smell on them, especially before bedtime, where they all slept with him, he found a certain female hygiene product worked and went into the nearest pharmacy before it closed to get what he needed.

Molly's and her father were in Florida because her passed away three months earlier, her car was hit by a tractor trailer and she died instantly, her wishes were to have her ashes spread on the beach where she and her husband spent their honey moon and always went to on their vacation, bringing Molly with them. Molly had their own web design site business, and was engaged to a man named Wade, who was physically and verbally abusive to her recently, but the last straw came when she found him bed with who was suppose to be her maid of honor. Molly and her dad lived in the same home in Colorado as when her mother was alive, in Colorado. To make matters worse, soon after her mother passed away, her father was diagnosed with early dementia, his mental health was slowly on the decline. When they reached Florida from Colorado, he lost his wallet, Molly's laptop, which would have enabled her to continue her work as a web site designer, and all of his credit cards. She now work in large chain pharmacy, which helped paid some of the expense while they were in Florida, but wouldn't last for long with her father needing his medication.

Barclay ran into the pharmacy sounding arrogant and barking at Molly at how awful the "girls" smelled that he was going to sleep with that night, and Molly was disgusted when he asked where the feminine hygiene products were that he needed. She was appalled at the number of these products he needed, it sound as though he was bragging to her, but once he found and paid for what he needed, he headed for the door, only to turn around, and ask Molly where the dog treats were. She looked at him in astonishment when she repeated his request, and it was then he explained the "girls" were his dogs, who needed a bath, due to the skunk spray on them. He noticed how jumpy she was at the sound of the any customers walking in, and knew there had to be more that was going on with her, and for some reason he found himself drawn to her, and asked her to have coffee with him after work, which was in a short while, he surprised himself asking her, and even more surprised to find himself physically attracted to her. She told him no, because she didn't know him,but it was also because she had to see how her father was doing, though she didn't tell him that part, she didn't feel he was any of his business. He told her he would be there waiting if she changed her mind.

On her way home, which she walked because it wasn't far from her job at the pharmacy she had to pass the coffee shop, it started pouring outside, and she noticed an SUV that looked suspiciously like Wade's, but she tried to shrug it off, as it turned out she was right. Wade jumped out of the SUV and called her name, and she quickened her pace to get away from him, but he easily caught up to her, and tied her wrists with rope and started beating her. Barclay noticed the commotion going on outside, he did see Molly and thought that she changed her mnd and was going to meet him for coffee after all, but what he saw instead, horrified him, and he ran to Molly's rescue. He beat Wade up, and carried Molly to the coffee shop to get her cleaned up, she was bleeding, and to make sure she didn't need to go the hospital.

Vonnie Davis tells this story with the natural wit she possesses, and at times this book had me laughing so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes. If there is one regret I have, it's that I can only give it 5 stars, when it really deserves so much more. This book is the second book in a series, but there are no cliffhangers in the first or in this second addition. I'm sure you will want to read the whole series, I didn't give away any spoilers, all wrote you will find out in the first 2 chapters, but it's full of twists and suspense, I urge you to read this book, I promise you won't be disappointed! Happy reading!

This was one of the worst books I've ever read. The only reason I finished it was because I can't leave a book unread.
I found the author just couldn't make up her mind what kind of story she wanted to write. It was all over the place.
The hero was a fireman under water rescue explosive expert retired range spec ops Harley riding BDSM gun toting animal lover who was emotionally unavailable. Then within a span of a few days snaps our of it with the help of his love interest who has left her fiance who beat her. She is dealing with the recent death of her mom. Her Dad is dealing with dementia and is with her. Her ex fiance turns out to be a druggie turned drug dealer who follows her.
Storyline was unbelievable and ridiculous !

This was my first experience with “kink”. But I have to say, Ms. Davis kept it light so it’s a good introduction to see if I’d like to read another or delve deeper. Hats off to Ms. Davis for writing characters outside the standard romance realm. Barclay isn’t all good. Molly is strong and weak at the same time and somehow it works.

I stopped reading after 25 pages. The hero was overly pushy in the heroine's place of work, and the heroine's hatred of her own body was disappointing.

It's seriously whetted my appetite for more!

"Quick! What aisle are the douches in? I've got three bitches at the beach cottage and they all stick to high heaven."...
"You do carry Massengill, don't you? That's the best brand, according to my research."
"Ah..." What kind of man researches douches? A man who goes to bed with three women...
"Would you mind checking your inventory in the back? I'll need more."
"I'm not allowed to leave the register, but I'll be happy to page our stock boy."
Douche-man grunted and flipped the package around. "It's gonna take at least two boxes for Loa. She's big. Got wide hips. Skinny legs, though. Kinda like a twenty-gallon tank on toothpicks."

FOR THE LOVE OF A FIREMAN by Vonnie Davis is a steamy contemporary read featuring a sexy fireman with oodles of hot firemen buddies, a woman who tends to be grumpy in the morning, humor galore, a menagerie of animals who will pull at your heartstrings, with just the right touch of suspense. LOL! A little bit of everything - but it all works beautifully! I have to confess to laughing a LOT while reading this book.

FOR THE LOVE OF A FIREMAN is actually the second book in Vonnie's Wild Heat series, but I had no problem reading it as a standalone since I'd not read the previous book. However, it seriously whetted my appetite for more. I hope to go back and read the first book in the series, HOW TO SEDUCE A FIREMAN, soon! AND, I see that there will be a third book in this series scheduled to be released July 2, 2015, PIN-UP FIREMAN. That one will definitely be on my must-read list!

Molly comes to Florida with her dad to spread her moms ashes.her dad is suffering from the early stages of dementia and luggage gets lost, she gets two jobs to get her dads meds and pay for their stay.In walks Barclay and things get really interesting from there.Trust and respect are things that are important to both Molly and Barclay.Join them as they discover themselves and the feelings that they evoke from each other.Dogs ,ashes ,gas, strong feelings and emotions and an abusive ex that follows to cause more havoc and a team of firefighters and marine rescue divers that have each others back.Thrown in some steamy scenes and you have a winner.
I recommend this 5 star story to all who love contemporary romances.
I look forward to more of Vonnie's work ;)

A Web Designer & A Fireman/Marine Diver

Well described characters, and a decent plot make for a good read. Molly is trying to carry out her mother's last wishes all while taking care of her father whose mind is being obliterated by dementia. You have web designer Molly and a fireman/ marine diver Barclay. I totally loved Barclay who knows how to be there for the woman he loves and he loves his dogs, and it just doesn't get any better than that. Molly is strong, loving, and sassy. She's not a perfect size 2, and she finds herself having to work through some body image issues which only make the story fun to read. This book is totally fun light reading. I totally loved this book by Vonnie Davis!!

Getting back to living

What do you get when you combine a feisty web designer and a fireman/ marine diver? You get Barclay and Molly!

This story will have you laughing your buns off your couch! Two broken souls thrown together trying to survive life only to discover themselves wholly.

Molly is trying to carry out her mother's last wishes all while taking care of her father whose mind is being obliterated by dementia. Throw in her psychotic ex, some drug runners and Barclay's deranged ex and you have an eventful and wild ride.

I love these characters. Open and honest they call each other on the carpet all whilst learning about themselves

What happens in Florida stays in Florida

There were so many different scenarios in this book. Some of the stories were funny, some were very sad. The characters were so different but they blended to make a very interesting book. They dealt with the sad difficulties of dealing with a dementia patient with a lot of love and humor. Will read another book by Bonnie Davis soon.

Great balls of fire! This book had me laughing, especially the scene in Walgreens, and made me very angry in some scenes and definitely left me wanting more! Can't wait until the next book is out. I'm definitely going to get the first book, How To Seduce a Fireman and read it! This book is great as a stand alone, even though it is part of a series.

Ugh! Why why why do most romance books have to have a submissive????? It got sooooo annoying in this book. They are both domestic abuse victims. She was clearly not ok with it but he is still pushing her to do it. And then I felt like nothing was resolved in the end. I went into this book thinking it was going to be a nice, sweet, suspenseful read but boy was I wrong.
