The Gift: ESP, the Extraordinary Experiences of Ordinary People

Rate this book
Can some people see the future? Do some dreams contain warnings? Can we observe events unfolding thousands of miles away? Dr. Sally Rhine Feather, a director of one of the world's most respected institutes for paranormal studies, says yes--and she provides dozens of examples of how ESP appears in real life. Referring to decades of research of hard facts and data as proof that ESP is real, Dr. Feather and her co-author Michael Schmicker reveal breakthrough discoveries which include: what circumstances trigger ESP experiences, why some people have more of this gift than others, and whether the fate revealed in a dream or vision can be changed.

"The authors take us through some amazing anecdotal evidence of ESP in this very readable account." – Fred Alan Wolf, Ph.D., Discovery Channel’s resident physicist and American Book Award-winning author of Taking the Quantum Leap.

"… insights and experiences we all may experience, but which are not often shared with others." – John Edward, author of the New York Times bestsellers Crossing Over and One Last Time: A Psychic Medium Speaks to Those We Have Loved and Lost

"…an astounding array of spontaneous psychic experiences that stretch the human definition of reality. It should be read by anyone interested in understanding the limits of the human mind and consciousness." – Joe McMoneagle, author of The Stargate Chronicles: Memoirs of a Psychic Spy.

"A wonderful book, filled with fascinating stories from the world's largest collection of ESP cases."–Rupert Sheldrake, Ph.D., author of The Sense of Being Stared At and Other Unexplained Powers of the Human Mind.

"… speaks directly to the needs of millions of people who are concerned with the personal meaning of their ESP experiences."– Jeffrey Mishlove, Ph.D., President of Intuition Network.

“There is no better introduction to the controversial world of ESP and why it continues to be a fascinating and frustrating enigma.” – Stanley Krippner, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology and co-editor of Varieties of Anomalous Experience.

"A fascinating and readable book reminding us...that our greatest treasure is not things, but the human mind." – Charles Tart, Ph.D., author of Altered States of Consciousness.

This book has numerous accounts of every day people who have experienced some form of psychic event. Because Dr. Rhine Feather is a scientist, only varifiable accounts have been published. I can't say it is written that well, since it consists mainly of letters written to the Rhine institute, but it is well organized and thought provoking.

This was an interesting read, especially good for those who are fascinated by paranormal science. I read it after enjoying the book The Unseen (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...) which describes the experimental psychic testing at Duke University. The Gift is basically a sample of the letters sent to the Rhine Institute. Most of the case studies are very short -- a paragraph or two -- and categorized by different types of experiences. I liked that the authors added data and research to support their theories. The introduction to each letter got to be tedious, and I just wanted to read more of the letters instead of the author's segway into each one. I'd love to see more books like this. I'm very curious about the topic and found this to be a good sample of case studies.

I found this book interesting and thought provoking. The book is filled with letter after letter recounting various experiences of ordinary people. There will be people who believe in ESP and those who do not. There are things that we do that we do may not consciously think about and do it don't do. Maybe it's ESP. I voluntarily reviewed this book and all thoughts stated here are my own.

I knew of WWII ish ESP experiments including remote viewing but was unaware of the collections of materials/stories from the 19th century.
A wonderful history of ESP research plus more recent information and true stories. (I could add my own.)

Another book I used as the basis of another service.

This is a great one-stop-shop of accounts from the Rhine Research Center, categorized according to different themes and features of ESP experiences. It can be a little bit of a slog to read through since you are always jumping from one report to the next, but the cumulative weight of all these stories is impressive and makes the case that something outside the bounds of scientific orthodoxy is happening.
