Simon Reeve is charming, sly, and a man who can make things happen. But a foray into the dirty world of politics has left him with a tarnished reputation.
Sharing the responsibility for her orphaned nephew with a feckless sister and putting her own ambitions on hold, Miranda is barely keeping her head above water. She's never taken a man home before, but there's something about Simon's haunted eyes and easy smile that's irresistible, and once in bed he opens her up to heart-pounding heights she never imagined she'd experience.
As they grow closer, two people who thought they knew who they were and where they were going learn to see themselves in each other. For Simon, it means becoming the man Miranda needs him to be. For Miranda, it means realizing she's more woman than her crushing little world has allowed her to be.
This is the third book in the Carried Away series, but you really do not have to read book one and two in order to read this one. All three books share a few characters, but they are each basically self-contained standalone stories.
I have to say that I've read all three of the books in this series and this one is my favorite so far. It tells the beautiful story of Simon and Miranda.
This book smashes just about every erotic romance cliche in the book. Simon is 14 years older than Miranda. But he is not a rich billionaire. He has a bit of a checkered past, but not what I would call a tragic past. He works in a job he cannot stand.
Miranda breaks the mold even more than Simon. Miranda is raising her toddler nephew due to the untimely early death of her sister. She lives with another sister who is struggling with addiction. They have a rocky relationship to say the least. She also works a job she hates, and she is just managing to struggle through each day.
When Simon and Miranda meet, the sparks fly, but not in a romantic, everything is always perfect kind of way. More in a realistic way, the way real relationships develop.
I loved that.
I have to admit this is one of the better books I've read in a while. Things happen, real things, not fantasy kinds of things, but real life kinds of things. The book does not have a fairy tale ending, but it does have a positive realistic ending.
I loved that too.
You should read this book if you want to be swept up in a beautiful, more realistic than normal, erotic romance. The sex scenes, which are plentiful, are panty melting hot. But more than that, the characters of Simon and Miranda will dig themselves deep into your heart and find a comfortable place to stay for a while.
Breaking Through is the third book in the Carried Away series. While these books can easily be read as stand alone novels, the hero in all of these books are connected by being life long friends.
So far this book was my favorite in the series, only slightly behind the first book (The Deep End). We met the hero Simon in the first book, as the best friend of Jacques. I loved to watch Simon evolve as a character from the first book until the end of this one.
Simon is recovering after life sent him some curve balls, and Miranda is struggling to take care of her orphaned nephew with little help from her other sister. When Simon and Miranda bump into each other in an awkward bathroom moment, the sparks begin to fly. Miranda is only able to give Simon stolen nights of steamy pleasure, and he's okay with that. The steamy scenes are well spread out throughout the book, leaving a lot of room for Simon and Miranda's story to build.
This was an entertaining book that felt much longer than it was. The characters were well constructed with real flaws. So far I haven't been disappointed with any of A.M. Hartnett's books and this one was no exception.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions*
This book was the perfect conclusion to the trilogy. Simon's character was enigmatic from the very first book, and I'm glad we got to hear his story from his point of view as well and not just the female lead's perspective. I could've done with more character development and (I can't believe I'm saying this) a few less sex scenes, but A.M. Hartnett never disappoints.
Let me start by saying that I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley for my honest review. This is the first book that I have ever read from A.M Hartnett, and I have determined the best word to describe it is... HOT!
Simon and Miranda have a relationship that is structured around the bedroom. There were moments when I had to look around like can people see what I am reading, but I could not put it down, I had to read more, I had to know more. Simon kind of slowly takes Miranda for a long walk on the wild side. Luckily for Simon, Miranda loves every second of it and at certain points she gives as good as she gets. Don't get me wrong there are other things going on in the book that will make you laugh, cry, and pray that you will never be put in the situations that Simon and Miranda experience.
Miranda gives a lot of attitude and is incredibly funny. Some of the things she says to Simon had me laughing out loud. Simon at first comes off as a jerk, but when you get passed that you see that yeah he is still kind of a jerk but he is trying not to be. He is trying to change, to be a better man than he ever was in the past.
The journey that Simon and Miranda went through brought me on an emotional roller coaster. I was happy when they were happy, and heart broken when they hit rock bottom and felt like there was no one to turn to. Miranda helped to heal Simons soul and Simon surprisingly was Miranda's shoulder to cry on when needed. It was a good book at a great price. I would definitely recommend it to other readers.

I requested this book and was given approval to read this for a honest review, I rated this book four stars, Well that said if you love reading book one and two, then you will want this book as well. This one is about Miranda who walks into a restroom where Simon is with another woman. Miranda leaves right away and goes to another restroom but she is in a hurry because she has a bus to catch, as she gets on the elevator where who she confronts Simon and he has this smile on his face that just makes her mad, and she makes a smart remark to him and then she hurrys to catch her bus but it's pouring down raining and she missing it, and she gets soak, she calls her sister to let her sister know she missed her bus again and her sister offers to get a friend to pick her up but Miranda refuses, last time a friend of her sister pick her up his hands was all over her. As she waits by the parking garage Simon sees her and offer her a ride but she refuses first, but she never expected him to be charming. This is book three in the Carried Away series.
Simon is twice Miranda age, she lives with her sister and her dead sister's baby Eddie. Due to Simon past he wants to make this relationship with Miranda last. Their relationship was sexual from the beginning, but she never expected to fall for his sexy charms. They come to an agreement; he has until New Year's Eve to ply his trade, and she'll never have to see him again. In the meantime, he will make it worth her while. There is a lot of sex in this book, and it was sizzling hot and steamy!! I not sure if there is a instant where you have too much sex, but they were having sex every time they was together. I'm not crazy about a book if that's all there is to it, but I also perfer that there is more to the story than just sex. I enjoyed it, and I will be reading more books written by A.M. Hartnett. This is a MARVELOUS READ
This is the third and final book in the Carried Away series and, although you can read the books as stand-alones, I’d suggest not to pick this one until you read the previous instalments. Simon is a recurring character in the series and it doesn’t matter how much he stays in the scene, he does leave an impression on the reader. Plus, his role is connected to the general storyline, so . . .
If you’re under the impression I liked Simon from the beginning, you got it right! He totally intrigued me from the first moment and, I must say, his own book didn’t disappoint me. He’s charming, sexy, funny but also messed up, and that makes his story one to really want to listen to. That’s also why I’ve really appreciated to be able to read his POV, not just Miranda’s. Indeed, there’s a double POV that works well and keeps things even more interesting. Perhaps I’d have a complaint about an event that, as I see it, should have provoked a fight of some sorts. Then, I’m not Miranda and we see things differently as much as we have completely different lives, so I think I can’t really judge her.
I’m very happy to have given this series a go, and I would recommend it to you if you’re looking for some mysterious, engaging, cocky alpha males, quite the hot moments, and a pleasurable escaping read.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review. This does not affect in any way my opinion of the book nor the content of my review—originally posted on Darkest Sins.
A wonderful romance that takes you through the life and love of Simon and Miranda. Their relationship starts out burning up the sheets right away and both of them want more out of this relationship than a one night stand. And this is their story. Great read, lots of different issues pulling at them as they try to find their way in this relationship, the one thing they always share is great sex. Great read.
This was a great book to read and the characters were very realistic. This story was not another fairy tale romance. The characters seemed to go through the ups and downs of a normal relationship. You felt like you were with friends while you read this.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley.
It's the strangest thing - I really liked the characters and the story but the (and I realise this will sound CRAZY) excessive smut really slowed down the plot and my ability to stick with the story. I nearly dnf but in the end, skipped. A Lot.
