I’ve suffered the loss of two great loves in this lifetime. I thought recovering would be impossible. Years away from home gave me a successful business, yet there was this hole in my heart I could never quite fill. When I returned home, I only wanted to expand my business and make up for the time I’d lost with my family thinking it would be enough. But everything changed the day he walked into my shop with a desperation that pulled at my heartstrings, making me do the one thing I swore I would never do again… feel.
Her expertise was my last hope in healing my daughter’s skin, but what I found was a guarded woman too afraid to even let herself smile. I didn’t even mean to do it… it just kinda happened. I torpedoed my way through every safeguard she’d placed around her heart the same way I dealt with any other threats I’d faced. Now, I’m ensnared in her trap while battling a toxic ex who has neglected my daughter long enough. I want to convince her that loving me is worth the risk, except I stand for everything she’s been avoiding. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to prove to her that no matter what happens I won’t be like them—I will always come through the fire.
Poor Island! She has suffered greatly in the love department. She would rather bury herself in work, and hide in the darkness of her grief, than entertain love again. It is just too painful for her to fathom. 💔 However, when a man from her childhood appears in her store all grown up, and seeking her expertise, she feels a small crack in her armor.
Shyheim, a hardworking firefighter, and dedicated father is dealing with his own insecurities. But when he reconnects with Island, she gives him hope. He is also afraid to love due to childhood trauma but is willing to try for Island.
Although the chemistry is on point, they both struggle at first to let go of past hurts and live in the present. However, it doesn't take long to get on the right track. Miss Shy Shy was adorable. Cute read.
Island & Shyheim. This book is about loss, healing and unexpected love. It’s about overcoming past heartbreaks and taking risks on love.
Shyheim and Island were meant to be. They just needed to both heal from the past. This was a cute story and I truly enjoyed it. If you love a second chance romance, this is the book for you 🤎
Hmmmm, there was a plot/character disconnection🧐‼️ “Through The Fire” wasn’t an awful read some elements were juvenile while others felt irrelevant to Island & Shyheim’s story. Nevertheless, I’m conflicted by a few of the traumatic events as graphically described by Island with her two prior relationships. Consequently, both incidents immobilized emotionally her if not incapacitated her socially & physiologically. But not enough to seek treatment 🤨⁉️ Thereafter, Shyheim’s implied he’s traumatized by the dejection he experienced (I’m assuming with the unmentioned attempts at other romantic relationships 📝 🤭🤷🏾♀️🤨⁉️). To my knowledge, there’s only been one woman prior to Island & Shyheim described Kianni as a “trifling hohoho”😬. Okay, if you say so Ms. Edwards🥴‼️Meanwhile, neither Island nor Shyheim ever considered therapy for their PTSDs & or living trauma, but both maintained successful & or lucrative careers. Unfortunately, I wish the extemporaneous trauma bond wasn’t introduced to this storyline. It was necessary to unite Island & Shyheim. Ideally, it would have been plausible & sufficient for two old friends to get reacquainted at a local store “A Little More Shea” and bond over medicinal products for eczema and or services. 🤷🏾♀️‼️
Syheim and Island's book was about 2 people that had given up on love. Shyheim always had a feeling of not being enough and thinking he was lacking, and Island's grief had her afraid to try love again. Shyheim and Island first met because of Shyheim's daughter. Shyla (Shy Shy) was such a cutie pie that Island couldn't help falling in love with her along with falling for her daddy. Kianni, Shyla's mother, didn't merit having baby girl, and I was happy when Shyheim took her out of that toxic environment because Kianni was certainly toxic to her core. I'm glad that both Shyheim and Island decided that they did deserve to find love again. The healing process that both of them went through took them on an emotional journey, and I was glad to see them come out on the other end whole and healthy. It was a beautiful story that I enjoyed reading from the very first page. Awesome job!!
This was the sweetest story. It was refreshing to read about a guy who had a regular job but was still about business.
Shyheim was a firefighter and the father of a beautiful little girl. He had tried everything to get her eczema under control. His friend Jayce suggested that he go to his sister's shop to see if she can help or recommend something.
Heim hadn't seen Island since they were kids. He was captivated by her beauty and caring nature towards his daughter. Island was afraid to live because of her past. However, Shyheim promised to love her through the hurt and help her heal.
They both needed each other. Such a beautiful storyline!!! Great read.
𐙚.°•𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 I love a quick read where I can connect to the characters and the story quickly. And still think about them after I finish. This book was amazing and a quick read with some of my favorite tropes. I sat down and finished this book in one day and had nothing a warm feeling for the story when I was finished. I love how Island and Shyheim re-entered each other lives. It was a beautiful start to a beautiful relationship. Even through, they both had trauma and kept their hearts on lock. Their story blossomed amazingly. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a heartwarming quick read. But also if you like ¹. Overcoming Grief ². Brother's Best friend ³. Single Dad ⁴. Always a fan of a single dad romance…and he’s a firefighter too? Yes please. I loved Shyheim & Island. They both had some serious relationship trauma to work through in order to be together. My only complaint is that I didn’t want this to be a short story!! Things moved quickly because there’s only but so much depth you can have in 110ish pages. But there’s so much more we could have seen from them if we had 100 more pages. I wanted to see Shyheim’s BM cut up some more. I wanted to see Island have to truly come face to face with her past heartbreaks and Heim loving her through it. Despite the length, they were a great couple.
Sometimes, all it takes is the right place and moment to find true love. Shyheim and Island found their way back to each other. It wasn't without life’s curve balls and heartaches. They were each other's person. The sprinkle on the top was little miss Shayla. She needed a mother in her life because her biological one wasn't motherly. Island took that role and ran with it. She created a formula to aid in Shayla eczema issue. She became fully invested in the relationship early on. Add in the sweet 5 year old, and she was easily swayed. This was an intriguing book. Overall, I give it a 3.5 ⭐️ rating.
This book definitely hit a soft spot! Island losing the loves of her life twice is so heartbreaking && I completely understand her fear and resistance because I am currently grieving the loss of my soulmate!
I am so glad Heim came and applied the purse for her to live that soft life and fall in love again ! I would have loved to get an epilogue of their lives after the pregnancy test just to show us living out all the things she dreamed of and once planned for herself!
Also,
I hate dirty trifling BMs because for one how you treat your baby like that & then how tf you just up and leave the state without a care in the world??? But that was a blessing in disguise!!!
Another wonderful book by Mycah. I love the characters. Island's been through so much. It was wonderful to see her come out of her shell. I had no idea that Shyheim was going through what he was going through. He continually marched on for his daughter. Yes, you should read this book. It is beautifully written. As always, it was an absolute pleasure reading your book. 🥰
Mycah good read. Thanks for showing what happens when fear takes over a person's life due to circumstances out of their control. Watching a man show his vulnerability and realize what he could do to make his woman believe in life, love and understanding. To see A woman overcome her fear and let love take over all things they go through they fight together 🤗🤗🤗🤗
This was a short read but it didn’t give too much. I get it Shyhiem was a single father. The book started off about him having to go pick his daughter up from that neglectful baby mother. Island aggravated me so bad she just dumped the man. That part was so silly. He was out doing his job. I felt like she was being so selfish.
Island was a sweet girl. Everything about her from her thought process to her business exuded peace and healing. The fact that she suffered 2 huge losses then created the antidote for others to heal is amazing. Heim was the man to break the curse.
A beautiful love story! Sometimes you have to go through the fire to get your peace, love respect and trust! Shyheim and Island were supposed to be together! I loved the ending and hope to see more of them!
I enjoyed this novella and seeing Island finally fight through her fear of loss and allow for Shyheim to give her the love she deserved. I like the connection between Shyheim and Island. It felt organic even with the push and pull. 3.75/5 stars
The strongest soldiers receive hard assignments to shed armor and fight storms many would hide from. The longer we hide from our ultimate challenges the stronger God will prevail pushing us toward the inevitable.
This was a nice quick read. Loved the characters and the storyline. The characters were relatable which made me enjoy the story. Glad that Island embraced love again and got her happy ever after.
What a great story. Island And Shyheim both had failed at love. These two were afraid to let someone love them past the hurt. They both tried and discover it is ok to love again.
Love so great that both are scared is amazing. A man needs assurance and to be poured into like a woman and when you find your one you can get exactly what you need and want. Loved this book…this book gives me hope.
Great read. Both main characters experienced growth personally that created a space for true love to flourish. By the end, I was smiling hard like the FMC was me lol 10/10
Through the Fire was a good read, nothing spectacular stands out but it was entertaining. Island was relationship shy and set on being single for the rest of her life. Shyheim was the childhood friend of Island’s brother who eased his way past her defenses.
Great palate cleanser! While I love a thug, I can appreciate a hardworking man as well! I absolutely love the fluidity of the storyline. Izzy and Shyheim had the purest love. Great read!
