The Princess and the Pack

Rate this book
From the day I was born, my future has been set in Marry Crown Prince Cillian, become his queen, and produce an heir.

Though I could do far worse than marry a man known throughout the continent for his dashing good looks and kind heart, I have long harbored a secret wish for more.

As an omega, yearning to find a pack of alphas to satisfy my every desire is as natural as breathing. As a princess, however, such a dream is out of the question. My station dictates that I settle for one, and only one, alpha so as to preserve our royal bloodlines.

But fate seems to have plans for me that involve not only my betrothed but also his two best Oran, a passionate, brooding nobleman, and Sloan, a rugged, charismatic gardener.

Will I allow societal expectations to keep me from living out my personal fairytale? Or will I take charge of my destiny and give in to a love that has the power to change everything?

*The Princess and the Pack is the first book in the Rebellious Royals Omegaverse series. Each book will follow a new pack.*

okayyyy so after debating for like a week or so i’ve come to the decision that i dont want to go on some long winded rant for why this book wasnt for me, because in all honesty it would just be really negative and i dont have the energy for it today 😂

so ill leave you with a few things to touch on -

this book had great potential. it had a lot of great tropes, i loved all of the characters and the world building was really good.

however, the plot was completely lacking. to be quite frank there wasnt one. it got to a point where i found myself thinking, okay well its book one maybe there will be another book that further explores plots, conflict and how these characters will struggle with integrating pack life into this kingdom. lets just say i was not surprised and disappointed to find out that this book came to a close with little to no conflict. the book is basically just miscommunication central, so many adults and so little communicating. thats about where things start and end in conflict despite there being so many other avenues that could have been explored.

i went into this thinking that my biggest turnoff to the book would be omegaverse as its something i havent really explored and dont find myself interested in, but again the tropes and character art got me to want to give it a try. i will say that this book was good for helping me realize it is in fact not my cup of tea.

at the end of the day im bummed because i had really high hopes for this one especially after waiting a year for it to be finished and building up that anticipation for it. again, i really love all of the characters and the world itself but i just cannot move past the fact that this book is just smut, fluff, inner monologues & miscommunication. there were so many points where i wanted to dnf but i did my best to see it through hoping that something would happen and tbh i really should have just dnfd the first time i felt like it.

This was so fun! I loved how the heroine was getting married to the prince and starting falling for his two friends, one who was of high standing and one who was the palace gardener. There were not a ton of high stakes in this one, so it was more of a cozy, royal omegaverse read. I liked how the hero was determined to allow her to have multiple mates since his mom died because society didn't allow for her to do that. All of the guys were utterly obsessed with her and determined to have an HEA with all of them, which I loved!

DNF

One dimensional, plotless twaddle that had me bored out of my skull within the first quarter of the book - and not in a good way, mind you, not in the way it sometimes is when there's copious world building, and the plot has yet to proceed. This was just boring. Empty. Nonsense.

The reader gets the honor of spending way too much time in the stilted, repetitive, uncomplicated mental musings of whoever is the POV du jour - everything being told rather than shown, and in a cringingly inorganic way.

If I wanted to spend that much time marinating in mental narrative, I'd read a goddamn memoir, not a fantasy romance.

Add to that, there are far more seamless and creative ways to explain omegaverse dynamics than awkwardly info-dumping it into said mental narrative.

Lastly, and what finally drove me to give up, is the foreshadowing that the author intended to abuse the miscommunication trope rather than actually build more significant, weighty, or nuanced conflicts.

Hard pass.

OKAY HERE WE GO

Expect me to be talking about Sloan until the day my soul departs this plane of existence.

I loved this so so much! We got silly, we got swoony, we got SEXYHOTKNOTTYSMUT 😌 and really what else could you ask for in a book?! Omegaverse is literally one of the most fun subgenres of romance. Like, yes I would like to be an omega that worries for naught but nesting and getting loved and *ahem* serviced by men who want nothing more than for me to be happy and blissed out for all of my days???? OBVIOUSLY???????

I loved the historical romance aspect as well! The fairy tale setting with royalty and nobility and the forbidden elements that come with that are just a recipe for perfection. I loved the dynamics between ivy and each of her guys AND the friendship between the guys as well.

So so excited for the packs to come!!!!!!

Thank you GoodGirls PR and Fallon English for an early copy!! All opinions are my own ◡̈

Although I would have loved more of a slow burn, and that’s my personal taste, I found it sweet and a cozy read. If you are new to OV and want something a little sweeter, then you will love tie one.

I love this boooook!! The Princess and the Pack is an Omegaverse based in a world where royalty is not allowed to form a pack. Ivy is betrothed to Cillian, a crown prince. But what will happen when they discover that she’s a scent match for not only him, but his two best friends as well?

I devoured this book. I absolutely love the fairytale aspects of it, and it somehow manages to feel so cozy even with all of the emotional conflict going on.

Ivy was so much fun as an fmc. I love her sass and her tenacity! Her family was so much fun as well, and I can’t wait to read more about her siblings. And Cillian, Oran, and Sloan, my goodnesssss. They’re each so unique and have their own struggles to work through, and I really enjoyed their personalities. Not to mention they’re all completely in love and worked up over their omega. 🙈

This was a different scenario from any Omegaverse I’ve read before, and I loved seeing all of the dynamics with royalty play out. I’m so excited to continue learning more about this world!!

"It's our story, love. We get to write it any way we like."

I had the absolute pleasure of beta reading The Princess and the Pack for Fallon English and it was seriously such a pleasure because this book is so freaking cute. Honestly, I think it's safe to say that it's one of my favorite omegaverses that I've ever read. Fallon has put together a fairytale feeling world of royals and given it new life with the spin of omegaverse thrown in. I'm really excited to see what is in store for the rest of this series. I rounded up my 4.5 star rating since Goodreads doesn't allow for half-stars.

I adored the interactions between every single one of these characters and loved getting to see their povs throughout the entirety of the book. I think that the dynamics that were explored and how each relationship is treated separately while still weaving together worked really well. I so so so appreciated the lack of jealousy between the alpha's because I've read books in the past where this same dynamic is explored in a way that I didn't particularly enjoyed.

This books is lighthearted and honestly so freaking sweet. If you're looking for an omegaverse that feels like Bridgerton, this one is definitely for you! Low-stakes, cozy vibes, chemistry with all the characters and alpha's that are absolutely devoted is what you'll find in this book!

- fairytale vibes omegaverse
- why choose
- secret pack
- arranged marriage
- hurt x comfort

Thanks to Fallon English and Good Girls PR for this review copy and this is my honest review.

I probably should've DNFed this around 30% but I carried on in hope. It didn't hit the mark for me unfortunately. It had a good foundation and potential interesting plot lines but the pacing was off with most of the characters spent in their inner monologues.

I did like the Fallon's take on the omegaverse social structure and the story set in historical times.

I so wanted to love this soft royal themed omegaverse story. But it just twisted into something that ended up being hard to finish.

Lots of telling. Esp via internal monologue. I am fairly certain there were maybe 30 sentences SPOKEN bt these characters. And that’s slim numbers.

The plot was understood going in via the book description. Omegas who are royal are forced to mate bond often times non scent matches and stay bound to only one partner when everyone knows omegas need more than one alpha to stay healthy.

But then it turns out no one knew? Royals just up and die while bonded to a single royal mate while commoners have packs and live until old aged and no one put two and two together? No one? Just Cillian and thanks to what he overheard long ago?

That didn’t make sense. It pumped the story to a halt for me.

That paired with the god awful amount of telling and internal mono and countless dribble about how amazing their mate is blah blah tell tell tell is why this gets 2 stars.

Sharpen it up. Reduce the tell. And it would make a sweet 3/4 star book.

I wouldn’t call what happened a 3rd act breakup-just the fmc getting her mind straight. Of which is hard bc she is a fucking dimwit.
Mid spice level. But it was written mostly in a way that fit the book-I actually liked the way the author wrote her spice. Refreshing.

I think future books by this author will be better, but this one felt like a draft. Too much repetition and inner monologues, not enough trusting the reader, and also not enough showing instead of telling. I think the spice was good, and considering how many characters were introduced, I imagine there are more books in this series to come. I think those stories have a lot of potential. This universe definitely has an interesting concept regarding royals/pack life etc (trying to keep this spoiler free). Just overall it was a bit too flat, with way too little conflict to keep me interested. Even though it wasn’t my favorite, if you’re looking for a low-angst omegaverse, you might like this one! Thank you Fallon English for a free e-arc. This book is out now!

Here's the thing: This book will, without a doubt, find its intended audience and do very well within that readership. Unfortunately, I just don't fall into that category.

Fallon's prose is lovely and the world she's built is very interesting. A lot of what I didn't enjoy might just boil down to my own preferences when it comes to the genre.

My biggest issue is that there seems to be so much potential for this world and these characters. Like, addressing the dissonance between the nobility and the working class and their opposing beliefs around monogamy vs pack dynamics is such a COOL concept?? But unfortunately there just wasn't enough interesting conflict about that- all of that external political conflict was resolved way too quickly and easily for me. (Maybe it'll improve with the continuation of the series though.)

In regards to the conversation around pack dynamics- I was really disappointed to find a lack of variety within this particular group relationship and the book as a whole. The author does a wonderful job of breaking down omegaverse for new readers- including going into the differences between alphas, omegas, and betas- but never once was a beta character mentioned (like not even on the periphery). And I think not including betas into the storyline really did this pack and this world a disservice. Three male alpha friends who decided they'd be a pack and one omega who just happens to be a scent match for ALL of them? Eh. The relationship dynamics could have been SO much more interesting. (Oran should have been a Beta imo and you can't change my mind about it).

So, if you're coming into this with a solid foundation and looking for a nuanced omegaverse romance? It may fall a little flat.

If you're here because you're looking for a spicy Why Choose Romantasy (that just so happens to be in an omegaverse world) with lovely writing and an interesting set up? You'll probably have a great time.

I think the author is laying the groundwork for some interesting storylines in the future and I will definitely be interested in giving the series another try.

The Princess and the Pack is the first book in the Rebellious Rebels Omegaverse series and I am soooo grateful to Fallon English and Good Girls PR for allowing me to ARC and Beta read this fantastic story!

The Rebellious Royals Omegaverse follows a generation of Royals who are trying to break the stigma of how their kingdoms view pack dynamics. In this world, Royals and nobility do not take to pack life. They believe that keeping their relationships as an alpha/omega dynamic ensures keeping their bloodlines pure. Cillian, the new King of Namara, discovers that by preventing their omegas from bonding with more than one alpha (even if they find their scent match), is causing them to have a significantly shorter lifespan than those in their kingdom who do experience pack life.

The Princess and the Pack tells the story of Cillian and his pack and how they are the first royals to break the pack life stigma amongst royals and nobility. This story is so incredibly romantic and sweet. There is so much emotion written into this story and shows the emotional turmoil that these characters experience as they fight their own inner demons and work to be their best selves for their packmates.

It is a very cozy story in that there isn’t a huge conflict. The story focuses on the emotional conflict that the characters face as they build their pack and work to change the way society views pack life.

✨Our Characters✨
Ivy has always dreamed of having a pack, but has never let herself hope for that reality because of the standards set in place by previous generations. She is sneaky and cheeky and never hesitates to sass poor (or not lmao) Sloan.

Out of all the packmates, Sloan comes from the lowest station as he is the palace gardener and is the silent, broody, and wise type.

Cillian is the Crown Prince of Namara and is the golden retriever of the pack who can often make rash, but well-intended decisions.

Oran is a nobleman who grows up at the palace with Cillian and Sloan. He can be a bit emo at times and doesn’t think that Ivy will ever need him as a mate when she has Sloan and Cillian.

This book perfectly hits at and sets up future books for both Ivy and Cillian’s siblings 👀 I cannot waittttttt to see what comes next for these Rebellious Royals!

Let me tell you about this book. Fallon English has been promoting this book for AWHILE and she delayed it to perfect it… and did a great job.

So good, in fact, I can barely believe it’s her first book.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The Princess and the Pack by Fallon English

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Rebellious Royals Omegaverse. Book 1.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book ARC on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Historical omegaverse

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: MMFM, fairytale vibes, why choose, fated mates.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Ivy has always known she would marry Prince Cillian, but she has no idea he has a pack already - something unheard of for royalty. Now she’s in a strange kingdom, getting to know men who are already obsessed with her.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: If you visit Fallon English’s socials, I guarantee you’ll have a hard time resisting this book. The art, the aesthetic, the quotes… she hyped it HARD and I’m so glad it lived up to it.

I’ve never read a historical omegaverse. I didn’t even know this existed. And man, I loved it.

Historical romances have a way of making love feel bigger, and couple that with the fated concept of a pack? I’m so down. Then English wrote the pack so well - featuring three very distinct, very fun MMCs.

You got the dutiful Prince, the brooding broken one, and the strong, sturdy commoner. It was perfection, and I can’t wait for more.

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

THAT FELT LIKE A CUP OF HOT COCO ON A WINTER'S DAY.

Reading The Princess and the Pack was a beautiful experience. The story had a softness that omegaverse books occasionally have, as they seem more based on high-action plots or smut than romance. It had the sense of a puppy love that I adored, with low-stakes angst. Moreover, I loved the scheme of relationships. Each connection is separate and unique, and the author does an amazing job at showcasing each one of them. Each character is round and a fully separate individual. The world-building was also very well-constructed, depicting very imaginative societal issues. The only criticism I have is I would like a bit more dialogue, especially at the beginning.Other than that, I am looking forward to reading more stories from this author.

ARC Review

DNF @ 31% sporadic thoughts below

❗️this book was initially set to release June 2024, arcs were ready to go then it got pushed and then it got pushed again and here we are. Fallon did a great job on the marketing of this book and, despite the poor communication about what was going on, I was eager to read it

❗️that being said, I didn’t like it 💀

❗️the writing was weird. For me, it seemed to slip between regency and modern language and it kept bringing me out of the story

❗️some of the narrative genuinely felt like nature documentary commentary

❗️for a book delayed almost a year, the quality of the writing was so disappointing

❗️random - Cillian (MMC) is a triplet and, i understand succession and birth order importance for royalty but, I did find it weird how many times it was mentioned that he was the eldest of his brothers

❗️speaking of brothers, Cillian and Ivy (FMC) have too many siblings and I feel like, for a debut, the author has introduced too many characters - probably in attempts to set up an interconnected standalone series

❗️the pacing is weird - I started skimming through and 13%-45% of this book is her wedding day and the day after.

❗️far too much time is spent in the inner monologues of the characters and there is so little dialogue. It made it so boring to read and felt like the plot wasn’t moving

First book I've read by this author and, I nearly DNF'd multiple times. There's barely a plot, no real conflict, and somehow everyone refuses to communicate like adults. Miscommunication was basically the whole story.

It felt like pure fluff, smut, and inner monologues with no depth. Nothing actually happens. Just a lot of repetitive thoughts and flat POVs. Everything is told, not shown, and the writing didn't click for me at all.

The dialogue was awkward, the "alphas" had zero alpha energy, and the nicknames ("little terror"? "petal"?) were painful. Insta-love I can get behind if there's chemistry-but there wasn't.

This one just felt empty and cringey. Not for me.

Thank you Good Girls PR & Fallon English for providing me with this ARC and in exchange for an honest review!

I slept 5 hours last night, so bear with me 🐻

This was so bad. Like...SO bad.
I didn't think I'd make it.
In the words of Tyra: "it's so bad, I want to give you a zero, but I can't. So here is a 1."

Some notes:
- The characters were all horrible and have no personalities. They behave like babies who can't communicate.
But they're all just super horny, so it makes it worse.

I'd love to see all of the characters strapped to chairs around a table with a mediator holding a spray bottle. Forcing them to communicate. Please. Just talk. No horny. No banging. No biting. No love confessions after just 3 minutes. TALK. COMMUNICATION.

- The writing is so overly flowery that it made my eyes roll to the back of my head and honestly I wish they stayed that way, so I'd be spared from reading this story.
- There's no relationship growing or anything. Just instalove and no plot. They meet, bang, say "I love you so much and I couldn't imagine life without you, you're the breath in my lungs" and bond.
- She hates her husband for the rest of the book for reasons and she goes and effs other guys...yes, they're a pack...but ugh??
She also flaunts it in his face too which make me go "Yikes"
- One guy smells like "freedom"??? 🦅
- One of them says "eejits" 😬
- Nothing happens in this book.
- The guys are all identical and have no distinguishing qualities. I genuinely couldn't remember all their names if I tried.
I think there's a reason why there are so few scenes with them all together, and that's because they are too similar lol
- "Darling" is used 41 times, and one page has it show up 8 times and none of the other nicknames are better.

At least the character artwork was nice?

If you like Bridgerton, why choose, and knotting, definitely add this one to your TBR!

👑 Omegaverse
👑 Why Choose (MFMM)
👑 Royalty
👑 Scent matches
👑 Forced Proximity
👑 Secret Pack

📖: Cillian and Ivy are placed in an arranged marriage. She spends a few months in his palace, only to be ignored by him the whole time, except for one steamy kiss shared with him and his friend Oran. When she comes back for the wedding, she discovers why Cillian had to keep her at arms length.

I am still new to Omegaverse romances, but let me tell you I need to immediately find more to read after this one 🙈.

The personalities of the different pack mates were so complimentary of each other and Ivy. They each played a specific role and had a different vibe, but fit so well together. The friendship and banter the men shared was so good.

I especially loved the Bridgerton meets fairytale vibes that the author brought to this love story. It felt dreamy and romantic while not skimping on the spice whatsoever!

I am so excited about the hints that were dropped about potential couples moving forward, and I can’t wait to continue the series 😍.

Thank you so much to Fallon English and Good Girls PR for the opportunity to arc read The Princess and the Pack.

I really enjoyed this sweet why choose romance! It’s a great palette cleanser if you’re looking for a break from high stakes romantasy. I haven’t read a ton of omegaverse but I know enough about it that I knew what to expect. Plus Fallon includes a handy dandy OV guide in the beginning so if you’re new to OV or ever lost by the terms you can always reference that!

I loved the historical romance setting, it’s giving Bridgerton with the why choose vibes of Emily Rath’s Beautiful Things and add in omegaverse! I loved each of her men for different reasons. Sweet precious Oran was definitely a favorite for me though, I’m always a sucker for the broody one 🥹

This is the first in a new interconnected series of standalone’s and I’m looking forward to continuing this series as it’s released!

So this was a very simple WC/RH OV romance. The only conflict really came from one person not feeling worth and miscommunication. Well, lack of communication, rather. I will say that I don't understand the reasoning of one being more guilty because they had knowledge and didn't share when around the other involved party and another having the knowledge and avoiding the other involved party, but stalking them on the DL. It's almost worse, imo.
