LaJill Hunt's wildly successful first novel entertains readers with the tale of a woman who just can't seem to stay away from the drama.
Kayla Hopkins is young, beautiful, and can't win for losing. That's why everyone calls her the Drama Queen. She doesn't go looking for drama; it just happens to find her. Take, for instance, her love life. Kayla's not satisfied with just one man. She has two--one she's in love with and another she's pregnant by. It's a ready-made formula for disaster, but will Kayla see it before everything blows up in her face? Her track record says no, but her friends and family can only hope.
Drama Queen is a hilariously funny, fast-paced novel that will drag you away from your own problems and bring you into someone else's.

All I can say is this book has more drama for your momma! Because this book was full of it !!! This book stars Kayla a woman that has lived her life drama free until recent where drama follows her! The characters were lively and the scenarios in the book were relatable I cannot wake to read the next book because that cliff hanger has me on the edge of my seat !
Kayla, Kayla, Kayla....if you can't have the man you want, find a man that reminds you of him! (Often imitated, but never duplicated.)
DRAMA QUEEN from the very beginning is filled with D-R-A-M-A! Infidelity, Deceit, Broken engagements, broken hearts and that's just the prologue.
As Kay struggles to regain her life after being separated from her Geno for more than a year, she falls in pregnant by a one night hitter who turns out to be a married hustla who's all bull.
Then her Geno, who still has eyes for her, and she for him has a maniac of a girl who knows that she needs that ring before spring, but can't get him to cling.
Not to mention that her sister has her heart set against her and is at the forefront of deception.
NOW THAT'S TOO MUCH D-R-A-M-A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kay has great friends and family who love and support her dearly. It's especially good to see that she stopped listening and relying on herself and turned to God. Didn't HE get her right together?
"That's your problem. You are trusting man when you should trust HIM!"
Good book. Definitely full of drama. I laughed, cried, smiled......Kayla was a good woman who just couldn't catch a break with men. She had a wonderful support sytem. A good support system is what we all need, along with God. You can't go wrong with that combination. Her relationship with her sister really made me think about building a better bond with my sisters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Made me think about second chances. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read drama filled books with real life issues.
I listened to this book through audio, although I was too fond of the narration I will say that I liked the story. I did read this book a long time ago when it was first released. I however, none of it seemed familiar! Kayla has a drama centered life, from walking in her fiancé and her sister getting in on the day before the wedding to getting knocked up from a one night stand and the guy saying that he didn’t want the baby. Craig, the baby daddy did come around but I can say that I never trust him from the start and he proved time and time again that he was not to be trusted. I don’t understand why Kayla didn’t just tell Craig’s wife about them at the time she found out he was married. Although, Avis was beyond ratchet, I do feel as if she should had been awarded the decency of knowing that her husband impregnated another woman. I love how Kayla trusted in the Lord to guide her through the hard times throughout this book. Anjelica, Kayla’s sister was a hot mess and I was very surprised at the ending revelation of the book.
This book was just ok. It was mis-titled. The MFC, Kayla, wasn't a drama queen. She had a lot going on but she wasn't dramatic. I was expecting a book about someone Manufacturing a bunch of drama but that's not what I got. The book itself was ok. I wasn't too invested in the storylines. I kept falling asleep and having to re-read entire chapters. At the end, I found myself really wanting it to be over. Not interested in reading the next book.
I took a long break from romance and came back to with this engaging drama. This book is a soap opera with so many twists and turns. At the heart of this book is a group of women who are always there for each other. This book does let the men our main character dates get away with a lot of manipulation without as many consequences as I would like but overall a fun read. You might be screaming at your book at some points.
I enjoy Kevin R Free as a narrator, however I don't really understand why he was chosen to narrate this book and the main character is a woman. I was expecting more drama. The main character Kayla seems more naive than dramatic. Her life had drama but she wasn't a drama queen. The ending didn't disappoint! I love La Jill Hunt .
La Jill Hunt has done it again! This is the first book in the Drama Queen series. This book was about a young lady with too many problems to count. Love and one mistake complicate her life more than usual. This book had an interesting cast of characters that don't disappoint. Good job La Jill. I will be reading book 2 in the series.
This was amazing book with lots of high anticipate, emotional, and violent scenes. It was well written with numerous backstabbing and turbulence issues for Kayla Hopkins. She has to deal with overwhelming stressful situations daily while being a single Mom.
This story wasn't bad, but not my style at all. The main character annoyed me, and I just couldn't get behind her issues. I do agree with her that most of the drama that surrounded her was not her doing.
I just started reading again and this was a good book to start off with. All the drama my girl Kay had I was on edge. I really wanted them to take that test tho. La Jill you did your thing with this one.
The only person I hated more than Avis…. Was Angelica and that Bitch could have died twice and I world have went on with my life…. Kayla parents were in delululand to ignore that their oldest child was f’ed up….
Perfect title for what you get out of this book. Drama, love, sex, friendships, lessons, life, laughter, sadness, real life experiences, and much more. Some things were predictable but there was so much more that takes you on by surprise.
I remember sneaking to read this book at 13 and the only reason I did was cause the main character has the same name as me. this was also my first introduction into “mature” stories 😭
3 1/2 stars. Kept my interest but the ending was a bit off and seemed rushed after going back and forth for so long. Not a bad effort, though. Looking forward to seeing how this author develops.
Drama, drama, drama. 1 young lady, a jealous sister, 2 men and a tribe of friends! Loved life nugget that I remembered (You're trusting in men. Trust should be in me - God!)
Quick and easy read.. yet so entertaining. Definitely hilariously funny and I'm happy with how it ended. Kayla could have anyone she desires and deserves to be so happy. Definitely not a drama queen compared to some of those she keeps in her company!
Drama Queen by La Jill Hunt. I really enjoyed this book. Kayla Hopkins was a very strong character she went thru drama, drama, drama. Kayla went thru Betrayal, Lies, Cheating, Fighting,Pregnancy,Love,Pain, Kayla story off with her fiancee Geno and Her sister Anjelica having relation in their bed she threw hot water on them not realizing it was her sister who claimed he seduced her Geno claimed he was drunk and thought it was Kayla. Geno tried to explain Kayla didn't want to hear anything he had to say. She moved out an cancelled the wedding and went to Jamaica. She told Geno she would never forget how he hurt and never trust any men again. She still loved Geno but she couldn't get past the betrayal and the humiliation she felt. She told her family and friends they weren't ready to get marry yet. Now it a year later her heart is still heavy. She trys to move on with her life it hard for her. I feel where she is coming from when someone betrays your trust it hard to get that back. I also like the sisterhood she had with friends Roni, Tia,Yvonne better than her relationship with her own sister Anjelica. They were part of the Lonely Heart Club. Then Kayla meets Craig at a club name State Street she doesn't want to be brother at first. She dance with him and let him by her a drink I thought it was sweet when he ask her to call him when she get home. And who should she run into her sister Anjelica. She called her and left a message for her to call him she was trying to figure out what to say. She went out with him he was very interested in Kayla he was quite the charmer. Craig cooking Kayla dinner he a chef it was very romantic jester her and Craig ended up making love on Valentine's Day he pampered Her and cook her dinner. Kayla ended getting pregnant by Craig and still in love with Geno. Come to find Craig is married and have son. Geno has move on with his life Janiece but he still loves Kayla. She quit her job teaching due to unfair treatment..
This book was definitely full of drama and Kayla sure is the drama queen. So much seems to happen to her. I really felt like I got to know her character and felt like she was a friend. Kayla is in love with Gino, but he cheats on her with her sister. After that, she has a date on Valentine's Day with Craig. Her friend gave her a condom to use. Kayla thought there was no way she would need that. Well, she should have used it. She confronted him and he said he didn't want a kid and she said:
"Then your ass shoulda considered that when you went raw dog on me. And furthermore, you ain't my prime choice to be the father of my child. Nigga, ain't nobody trying to trap your ass if that's what you're thinking!" (P46)
She also had a friend named Terrell, but he was just a friend. She was still in love with Gino, but she just didn't know what to do between him and Craig. They were were sure they were each the father of her baby.
I loved the way this book just drew me in to all the drama and kept me wondering who was really the father of her baby and who she would end up with. Each man had his own unique qualities that were good, but they also had a lot of faults too. She was definitely too good a woman to have this much drama.
La Jill Hunt is an awesome writer and I can't wait to read more of her books!
