I have mixed emotions about this book. I really didn't want to read it. Because, our so many years as author/reader is coming to an end. She has gone and hung up her keyboard and retired. Luckily... in this, the final book of this series, she has pulled out all the stops and delivered a cracking read. We start with the death of a local GP who, let's just say, has no patience with his patients! Sam is called in on her day off to investigate. It soon becomes evident that this will be a tough case to crack but she and her team are starting to chip away at it when there's another body. As the heat rises on the case things suddenly get very personal for Sam and it becomes a race against time to get to the bottom of what is really going on. So... I read my first book by this author way back when I first got my kindle in 2011, and have pounced on all her books as soon as I could thereafter. In every single book she has delivered exactly what I need. As she has indeed with this one. Cracking characters playing their parts in a brilliant story, delivered with absolutely no waffle or padding. Basically taking me out of the real world for a couple of hours and being thoroughly entertaining to boot. Keeping me guessing, allowing me to bond with series characters, going through all the feels with them. Especially when they get in trouble. And it's going to be a big hole in my reading going forward. But that's life and tbh, it's not like don't have a pretty long tbr to keep me going. But yes, it's the end of an era. And I will miss all the characters I have met along the journey. But I do wish her well in all her future endeavours. So yeah, if you haven't already discovered this author, you're in for a real treat. But please, do start from the beginning and read in order. You have all the time in the world to play catchup now!
It’s getting closer to Sam’s wedding day but a new case is set to turn her world upside down. It seems like there is no one she can trust as secrets and lies emerge, leaving Sam doubting herself as well as others. My emotions went into overdrive as I constantly felt for her throughout the story and wondered how many more people were going to let her down. In fairness to the others, I am sure we all have something in our past that we don’t feel the need to divulge although when it is connected to a case, there are some things you need to get out in the open.
Seeing the investigation come together made for an engrossing read. I was never sure where the story was going to go next and as to who would make it out of this one alive. There is certainly some shocking as well as heartbreaking moments and I neared the end with trepidation. It’s one where you want the killer caught but unsure of what that means for others in the all important conclusion.
The Truth Will Out I think will leave readers undecided as one door closes and as to whether another one will open in the future. Yes, I know I’m being vague but once you have read the book, you will understand. It certainly left me feeling a mix of emotions. Being so far into a series, you become not only attached to the characters but invested also. I have loved getting to know Sam, Bob and the rest of the team and love the familiarity that comes with a series, the wonderful back drop of the Lake District, there really is so much going for it that will appeal to crime fiction fans. An immensely good read!
As bodies turn up and secrets start to come out Sam gets more stressed and annoyed at those around her. I get how she feels but at the same time some things just get put to the back. Though in her defence once this case started coming to light, telling all should have to come to everyone. This is the last in the series and may be the last MA Comley book. I’m really sad Sam is not scheduled to come back as it’s been an excellent series. As for MA Comley her books will be missed, but sometimes life has to grabbed and taken.
This book starts with a bang then I was sad but got the reference in the books small details, that mirror real life. I cried at this book (no spoilers), heart breaking. I didn’t know where this book was going but at one point I thought the wheels had fallen off but I was wrong it came back with a bang but I was really sad at the end & wasn’t expecting it so it hit hard & I cried again. I don’t want this series to end so I’m very sad. Goodbye Sam
This wasn't what I was expecting but it was a riveting read poor Sam she been through it but now she has new adventures with Tilly .Mel I loved this book but my god it had some twists all I can say is you went out with a bang .so happy travels Mel and Tilly in Dexter enjoy every second you deserve it going miss your books but I've still got Sara Ramsay one to read .thankyou for all the happy hours you have given me enjoy your retirement dear Mel xxx
I can’t review this book easily without spoilers. There are just too many people that have done things that lead you to believe you don’t know who you can trust. I wish things had been different for all involved (you always want the best for people) but sometimes life goes a different way. Enjoy reading!!!
Last in the DI Sam Cobbs series and it doesn’t disappoint!
Victims are being murdered and the messages left at the crime scenes points to them being connected to the scandal surrounding Pendell House, years earlier!
This hits really close to home for the team, especially Sam! Can’t go into detail as no spoilers but what an ending.
Through out the 18books I have really enjoyed Sam and her team ,this book though just say I didn't enjoy the last few chapers, seemed rushed ,and out of character for Sam , won't say anymore
Another excellent story in the Sam Cobb series with all the usual characters. An excellent storyline that kept me gripped from start to finish. The only minus is that this is the last in the series.
As Sam’s wedding is getting closer, she would be forgiven for letting things slide. Sam is the constant professional, and when there is a murder locally, Sam is tested in every sense of the word.
Is there anyone that Sam can trust? This case is a difficult one that leaves Sam feeling bereft.
This has been a wonderful series to read. I have enjoyed getting to know the characters and parts of their lives away from the station.
I found this story to be emotionally charged, which I think was down to knowing this is the final book in the series.
