Thriller lovers have to pick this one up. It is an excellent debut thriller!
Fast-paced, with unexpected twists and turns right up to the last page, with morally gray characters you just don’t know if you should trust.
The story flowed off the page so effortlessly that it was like the pages were turning themselves. I enjoyed how the author wove in issues around control, ambition, what lies beneath the image that people present, and complicated mother-daughter relationships.
A compelling, captivating read that is one of my favourite thriller reads so far this year. So hoping it gets a wide readership!!

What else can I say other than WOW!! Thriller lovers should definitely read this one. This debut novel was fast paced and grabbed me from the start. I thoroughly enjoyed this one right up until the end. Could there be a sequel in the future? I hope so. I will keep my eyes open for more from A.K. Franco. I gave this one a 5 star rating. It's a story about a girl who - along with her fiancé - temporarily moves back to her parents' house and later goes into a coma. And no one knows why and how to help her.
So many plot twists, so many questionable actions that you don't know who to trust. And because of that, I didn't really have any theories - I was simply having a great time.
Since the MCs question everyone and everything, some scenes gave me chills, and overall it created an eerie atmosphere - I loved that I was able to immerse myself completely.
I thought it would be hard for me to keep up with 2 POVs and 2 timelines but the story pulled me in from the very beginning.
There were enough revelations that I was literally gasping every other chapter! And they were GOOD!
It was an interesting experience to see 3 (or even 4) points of view on the same situation in the end. And I believe all of them are valid. It's always about perspective.
I don't like this kind of ending because they trigger my anxiety and make me feel uneasy. But it goes well with the story and had it been done differently it would've felt unreal.
I cannot rate this 5 stars since there were repetitions (not many), several parts I didn't buy and a few grammar inconsistencies. But I wish all debut works were that good and I'm looking forward to A.K. new works.

I LOVE AN UNRELIABLE NARRATOR AHHHHH
I did feel like there were a lot of storylines here and some didn’t go as far as I thought/were underdeveloped but I had a really great time here. I’d definitely recommend this to folks that love a fast-paced thriller.

Andi and her fiancé, Brett, end up moving in with Andi’s parents temporarily. Very different from her high profile, high society lawyer mother, Andi has made every effort to thrive on her own. With planning an upcoming wedding Andi and Brett are trying to save for a new place when Andi suffers a medical event that leaves her in a coma.
Nurse Lucy stands her ground to find out what made Andi sick and why she is still in a coma.
Alternating between then and now plot lines to weave together betrayal, manipulation and secrets that are the backbone of this psychological suspense. There were little subplots going on between the coma and clues to each spread throughout.
What a great debut thriller about what we present to the outside vs what is really going on behind closed doors. The book is very descriptive and picks up significantly in the last half of the book. I recommend giving this one a read!

Silent Symptoms is an excellent debut. I loved the multi POV storytelling coupled with dual timelines. The characters were well developed and there were some surprising twists.
This is a fast paced thriller, and the writing is propulsive. So many mini cliffhangers at the end of the chapter that made me devour it
I was always dying to get back to the story, making it a 5 star read.
A. K. Franco is one to watch and I'm grateful I was here in the beginning.

Wow, where do I even begin with this one?! Silent Symptoms by A.K. Franco kept me completely engaged and on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This is one of those books that demands your attention in the best way possible.
There are a lot of characters, but the writing is so clean and fluid that it never gets confusing. It all just works. Buckle up, friends—you're in for a good one.
At the heart of this twisty drama is a big-shot lawyer mom, living the high life. Her daughter, coasting on mom’s money, decides to do things her way—gets engaged to her longtime boyfriend, and life seems peachy.
Then we meet a big-deal businessman married to a smart, successful nurse. They’ve got the dream: a stunning house, a beautiful marriage (or so it seems), and a life she always wanted.
But THEN—plot twist! The lawyer mom’s daughter and her fiancé are forced to move in with her. Not ideal, but hey, you got a do what you got a do. And suddenly, the daughter falls gravely ill and ends up in a coma… in the very hospital where our nurse queen works.
And y’all… that’s just the beginning. Why is she in a coma? What actually happened? Silent Symptoms is layered, emotional, suspenseful, and filled with moments that made me gasp out loud.
Also, can we talk about the big-shot businessman for a second? The cringe factor was at an 11. When his truth finally came out, I think I actually rolled my eyes into another dimension.
There’s so much to unpack, and I truly, really enjoyed it. If you love domestic suspense with tangled relationships, secrets, and just the right amount of “WHAT IS HAPPENING?!”, this one’s for you.
Run, don’t walk when this book drops later this summer. You’re going to want to talk about this one.

I went into this one really wanting to love it—the premise had so much potential. There were a lot of different storylines woven throughout: Brett and Andi’s relationship, Brett’s backstory, Andi’s childhood and injury, Margoux and Chris’s marital struggles, Dominic and Lucy’s marriage, Dominic’s personal situation, Lena’s and her overall character, and Lucy’s job. Each of these threads had interesting elements, but because there were so many, they didn’t always get the depth I was hoping for. I kept wishing the book had focused more closely on just one or two of them so they could really shine.
On the writing side, I found myself pulled out of the story by repetition. I counted at least a dozen instances of “the smile didn’t quite reach his/her eyes,” and several other phrases that showed up again and again.
That said, Silent Symptoms definitely had the framework for an intriguing read. With a tighter focus I think it could have been a really powerful story.

I was hooked immediately, and I loved the alternating timelines as well as multiple viewpoints. It was wonderful that even though I had to set it down, when I came back to it, I still knew exactly what was going on which means this is definitely a memorable read! As the synopsis suggests, I would agree it is comparable to a Freida McFadden book since it is fast-paced, super twisty, and would be easy to read in a day.

I’ve read countless psychological and domestic thrillers and it takes a lot to throw me off balance. Silent Symptoms did exactly that. The twists are not only unpredictable but completely earned, and the dual POV structure adds real depth. Andi’s voice, told through past events before her coma, is haunting and layered with tension. Lucy, the nurse determined to uncover the truth, brings urgency and drive to the present timeline.
What impressed me most was how well the author managed to hide key details in plain sight. I kept flipping pages thinking I had it figured out, but I never truly did. The themes of control, image, and hidden trauma are woven seamlessly into the plot.
This is a gripping, smart, and emotionally intense thriller that fans of the genre will not want to miss.

Silent Symptoms is a gripping and highly addictive psychological thriller. It truly had my brain spinning in all the directions. I was so engrossed by the story, the characters and what would happen, I just couldn't stop reading. I thought the author did a clever job of pacing the story and leaving little clues everywhere for readers to find. I wouldn't say this is non stop thrills, but it definitely had enough to keep me fully immersed.
Unreliable narrators.. this book has many and oh was it delicious! I absolutely love when an author makes me question my guesses at every turn. They definitely all have their secrets which just ramps up the excitement. Franco’s writing is easy, clean, captivating and totally easy to get lost in. My only little thing is there were a lot of storylines to follow and some that weren't fully fleshed out that I might've wanted more from, apart from that it was a truly fun book to read!

Mixed bag for me. Didn't enjoy the first half. No action, mundane daily life, rich people I struggled relating to or liking any of them. The scene is set for uncovering why twentysomething Andi is in a coma. The second half is much better. Lots of moving parts (maybe too many, could be somewhat confusing with repetitive storylines) and twists. Some of the twists were there just to have a twist, one in particular (if you've read it you'll know which one I'm taking about). Overdone, perhaps. Ultimately, I didn't love the plot or like any of the characters very much so I wasn't fully invested. I can see how others might eat this right up, though.

This is certainly a psychological thriller! I enjoyed how the story slowly laid out the clues for the readers to pick up bit by bit. It created lots of questions and at the end I had a whole other boatload of questions.
We follow Lucy who is a nurse investigating why Andi is in a coma. We slowly see the events from Andi’s perspective of what happens and we suspect her mother. But then, we get Andi’s mother’s perspective and it flips the script!
I enjoyed reading the story and I liked the suspense that was built up. Technically not too much happened, but that’s true of any thriller. The plot twists certainly had me at the edge of my seat.
The reason I rated it 3 stars is because some of the descriptions of the characters were a little awkward and superficial to read. Lucy was described as using a YSL bag and a something mascara and lots of expensive brands all in one go which seemed like a lot. It sort of continued when it came to descriptions of when someone was rich, but it did mellow out as it became focused on the story rather than descriptions.

It’s fast paced, multi-POV, unexpected twists page after page, you don’t know who to trust and there is a few jaw drops tossed in for good measure.

This was a wonderful debut novel by A K Franco that I would highly recommend. I didn’t see the big twist coming and there are few other twists that make you question what you know about these complex characters.

I flew through this book. It’s fast, intense, and had me questioning everything. The mental health themes were done really well and felt real. I loved how the author kept the tension high without giving too much away too soon. Every time I thought I had it figured out, something new hit me. If you like thrillers that mess with your mind and keep you second-guessing, this one is worth reading.

The writing style gave me serious Freida McFadden vibes, and the twists… oh my god, the twists. One of them hit so hard I had to pause and process because I could not believe it.
We follow Lucy, a nurse willing to put her own life on hold to uncover the truth about what’s happening to her patient, Andi. After Andi moves back in with her wealthy, image-obsessed parents, she suddenly ends up in a coma. Her story unfolds in a dual timeline: before and after the coma.
Then comes Andi’s mom… and suddenly, you’re questioning everything. Who do we trust? Honestly, everyone felt a little suspicious.

i fell in love with these character’s instantly! i loved how fast paced and easy to read this book is! i completely forgot that i wasn’t reading a big, well known author! a.k, you did such a great job building this world that i completely immersed myself into! and i hope you are writing a second one, because i want it! everyone, give this book a try! it is worth your time! it would be a fantastic starter thriller for anyone who’s testing out trying thrillers for the first time! :)

I had the privilege of receiving my very first ARC, and I couldn't have asked for a better debut. Silent Symptoms is told in alternating timelines (before and current), with multiple POVs that add richness without ever feeling confusing. Franco’s voice is fresh and assured—this story unfolds with tension, precision, and emotion.
I loved all the characters, even the unlikeable ones. Each one is layered, complex, and masterfully written. I never knew who to trust, which only deepened my investment. Everyone wears a mask here, and no one is quite who they seem. Lucy’s arc had me rooting for her, while Andi’s past offered so much drive and mystery. Margaux? Absolutely fascinating.
The atmosphere—the grand home, the perfectly curated meals, the cold sterility of the hospital—was vivid and immersive. This story deserves a place on the shelf next to Alice Feeney, Stacy Willingham, Freida McFadden, Kate Alice Marshall, and Andrea Mara.
The writing is clean and captivating, the pacing tight. I was hooked from the first page and guessing right until the very end.
I only wish I could time travel into the future to read whatever Franco writes next.

Silent Symptoms follows 23-year-old Andi Wentworth, who mysteriously falls into a coma under unexplained circumstances. Told through multiple points of view and shifting timelines, the story slowly unravels the events leading up to that moment — full of twists, turns, and plenty of second-guessing.
I went back and forth on how to rate this book. It has so much potential and checks a lot of my personal boxes: a tense, fast-paced read with multiple narrators and a strong, mysterious premise. The beginning hooked me right away — I was immediately drawn in and invested in the characters.
That said, it eventually felt like there were too many storylines competing for space, each one trying to deliver the biggest twist or shock. In the end, it didn’t fully come together in a satisfying or cohesive way (at least for me). The payoff didn’t quite match the buildup.
Still, if you're in the mood for a quick, twisty thriller, this might be the right pick for you. There's definite potential here, and it might land better depending on what you're looking for.
