I love this series. I read the prequel novella awhile back and finally got around to reading this one. The mythology, the whole “other world” premise, the romance—I am so in love.

The plot:

Okay, so the plot could have been better. I thought the build up of trust between Selena and Titus should have been a little more gradual than it was. I greatly enjoyed the storyline and their romance otherwise, I just wish that aspect had been lengthened out a little bit more.

At the 95% mark, I panicked. It looked like there was going to be cliffhanger or worse, a tragedy. I put down my Kindle and stared at it nervously, kneading a pillow and wondering if Ms. Michaels was going to so thoroughly break my heart as she did with Beyond the Iron Gate. Finally, I picked it up and finished it.

I can’t tell you how it ended, but I’ll just say that while it didn’t explore everything I was hoping it would, I was not disappointed.

The characters:

Selena and Titus were adorable together. Aside from the whole development of trust that I mentioned, I thought their relationship was presented very well. Oh, and the whole “I want our wedding night to be the first time” just made me go *swoon*. (I’m a southern girl and I dig that sort of thing.)

I did not like Zoe. Period. She seemed really shallow to me and I couldn’t stand her. When she left the story, I was ready to throw confetti shouting “good riddance,” but then I don’t usually like the girl’s best friend-type characters. She had a few key point scenes, yet I still wished she’d leave. Sorry, Zo.

Adrah is awesome. She’s like a hardcore, warrior woman version of Galadriel and I liked her just as much.

There were centaurs, spear-wielding fae, werewolves, eccentric German writers and a fantasy world I’d love to visit. I adore this series and I’ll certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantasy fairytale!

The next book has a love triangle mentioned in the blurb and I kind of cringed at that. One thing that does make it funny, though, is that it involves a character in this book who is such an arrogant prig and I can’t wait to see him as a lovestruck swain. I’ve adored these books so far and I really, really want to continue the series, so I’m thinking I’ll give it a shot anyway.

A Write to Review

Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Seventeen-year-old Selena McKinley outwardly appears to be a typical teenage girl. However, she has always felt like an outsider in her small town and eagerly anticipates her high school graduation as a means of escaping and finding her place in the world. Selena's desire for freedom from her hometown is strong.

Everything changes when a stranger arrives in town, turning Selena's world upside down. This newcomer holds the key to revealing the truth about Selena's origins and her unique identity. She learns that she is a lost princess, a pivotal figure in a brewing conflict in a world she was separated from as a child. In this distant world, an evil queen, driven by her obsession with beauty, has devised a plan to enslave humanity. Although this notion initially seems unbelievable, Selena feels in her heart that it is undeniably true.

Amidst this turmoil, Selena encounters Titus, a shape-shifter with mesmerizing blue eyes who speaks of destiny and captures her heart. As Selena navigates her newfound identity and the impending war, she faces a challenging dilemma: fulfilling her destiny or following her heart's desires.

I have to confess that the book cover didn't quite resonate with me either; it seemed a bit eerie. When I initially delved into the story, I found myself quite irritated. The prologue's interruptions and the way it unfolded didn't sit well with me, and it left me with a negative impression from the start. Additionally, Selena, the main character, grated on my nerves during the initial chapter.

The relationships and connections between the characters felt artificial and lacked depth. The Grimm brothers, for instance, didn't come across as particularly helpful, and their dialogue felt mundane. The story failed to pique my interest or compel me to read further.

In my opinion, reducing the amount of narration and description could have improved the overall flow of the story.

I'm not sure I am reading the same book everyone else read.

I can't read any further. I made it into the first few chapters and I almost filled up my notepad with annoyed rants. I think I'll save a few trees and give up while I'm ahead.

First of all, this book begins with a massive information dump from the perspective of a very hoity toity Fairy Queen who rambles on and on, while making little sense. She even points out that she gets off track, and her reason for doing so is because she's a fairy and will live for aeons.

There was a great, magical wall created to separate Fallada from Earth. There is also a time gap between the worlds. A short while after this feat, the Evil Eranna rounded up all 7 princesses of Fallada (all of whom are about the same age, miraculously), and sent them through this impenetrable wall. So, I was confused as to how these girls could not be retrieved.
I'm really confused here because of the time gap. When they passed through the wall there is more than a hundred years that passed, yet these girls are teens and young adults? So just how many years were they missing and why did it take so long for anyone to do a damn thing about it?
Not long later, you are told that the Fairy Queen took it upon herself to create a portal through the wall while the construction of the wall took place. Great. Then why did she wait so long to send anyone to retrieve the girls?
How did Eranna collect all seven princesses without any conflict in the first place?

Eranna is sending a teenager through the wall to kill Selena. (So much for impenetrable. I'm not clear on how she did this or how she can get through it herself.) Why didn't she just kill all of the princesses instead of sending them to Earth? Why didn't she send a witch to kill her? Why didn't she just kill her herself? She appears in Earth to "remind" Titus of his place. The whole plot just doesn't make any kind of sense at all.

The editing issues.
The fairy King was in a state of "morning".
Stalking "dear".

It also said that the King, who seemed more like an Emperor, could have put an end to all of this ridiculousness but he was too sad. It then goes on to tell you that he can't do anything because he has been captured and is trapped by Eranna's dark magic spells.
I'm thinking that there might have been a time lapse between these two facts that was just never mentioned.

And then there is Selena. She supposedly has great intuition yet she deems it safe to be alone with a strange boy who orders her about. Apparently, that made her feel that the two of them were two sides of the same coin. It made her excited to be near him.
And to think that she almost ignored her intuition.
There was no "almost" about it. The only reason she wasn't attacked was because Titus told her to run. Yet instead of being scared of the boy, she's intrigued. Must be because he's hot, you know it makes everything okay if he's hot.

Nope. Can't read anymore of this. Nor do I recommend it.

Oh my G, what did I just read.
If you're looking for a YA "fantasy" (Hhh) romance containing all the troops and cliches ever imagined, this is the book for you, my friend. Although, I don't think we can be friends if that's the kind of book you enjoy. Hhh
This is so bad. So bad. There's so many YA troops I can't stop my eyes from rolling on their own. I literally can't.
The "girl who grew up in a small village and feels like she doesn't belong and just wanna go away as soon as she can" troop.
The "Her feeling like she's different, special somehow" troop.
The "parents who supposedly died in an awful car accident when she was a baby" troop. (Oh my G, so sick of that one).
The "guy she just met and fell in love with instantly, because, well, it's meant to be" troop.
The "discovery she's actually a princess and her parents are rulers of a hidden world" troop.
The "evil queen who's butthurt cause she feels threatened by another woman's beauty" troop.
The "I don't wanna help but in the end I will because I need to save my insta-love" troop.
I could keep going but let's not waste time shall we. I think everyone gets the picture, right. Right ?!
Oh, and giving a necklace with one of your "puppy teeth" is not a romantic move, man, it's just gross. Hhh

Wow, where to begin? I fell so far in love with this book it wasn't funny. Alicia Michaels is so descriptive in her writing that I was THERE! I was so caught up in the story, that at times I forgot what I was doing and had to go back and start over. I knew, only pages into this book, that it was going to go places and would one day need to be on the big screen.

Okay, now a little about the book. It is the story of seventeen year old Selena, who lives in a small town in Texas and has never felt she fit in. She eagerly awaits graduation so she can leave. Selena holds a special power ... she can run incredibly fast. Miles in mere seconds. She's never known why ... until Titus, a shapeshifter, and the brother's Grimm show up and explain why. It turns out she's a princess of a far away kingdom named Fallada. When she hops aboard the ship to travel to Fallada and save her grandmother's life, Selena realizes just how different Fallada is.

Not of this world, and stunningly beautiful, Fallada is like something out of a dream. With fairies, huge owls that you can ride like you would a horse, and all other types of mythical creatures she never knew existed, Selena falls in love ... not just with the land. Her attraction to Titus goes far beyond anything she has ever felt. Will Selena's grandmother survive? Will Selena save Fallada? Can a princess and the shapeshifter sent to kill her make a relationship work? Guess you'll have to read to find out.

With this novel, Alicia Michaels easily joins There for You's short list of true five star reads. Congrats, Alicia. I can not wait to read more of this series. I was not paid for this review. The opinions expressed here are my own and were in no way swayed. Thank you for taking the time to read.-Melissa

I was given this book in return for an honest review. Selena is a 17 year old high school student who doesn't fit in. That's because she is one of 7 princesses stolen from the land of Fallada in Fae, and sent to our realm. The evil queen Eranna sent them away to up the odds of her being able to take control of all of Fae and then our realm. Selena is soon dragged into a world that she never knew exhisted and is expected to be the savior of her people. She doesn't think she can do it, she isn't anything special. Or is she? In the midst of all of this, she is falling in love with a werewolf sent to kill her, and meets her real parents and brother, learning to fight, as well as learning what it means to be royalty. This book has Pixies, elves, were's,Satyrs,Faeries,Prophets,Witches,Dwarves,Centaurs, minotaurs,Fae, Sorcerers and The Grimm brothers. Full of awesome characters. If you like very discriptive books, you will love this. I like a little more interaction between the characters and a little less description and narration, but all in all, was a good read. WaAr

I love the books that dont seem to get much attention good plot not your normal fairy tale the fantasy genre is kind of hard more so if you write for young adults there are only so many ways to go with werewolf fairies and the like and I think Alicia Michaels did an excellent job taking very common themes and creating a unique story looking forward to the next bookChild of the Sacred Earth

I absolutely loved how this book begins. It's like the reawakening of a favorite fairy tale! The incorporation of everyone's favorite paranormal brothers is simply wonderful, especially when the reader finds out where they have been all this time!
Basically the Queen of Northern corner of Fallada is writing to the reader. She tells how the princesses, mainly the heirs to the three corners are kidnapped by the evil Queen of the West corner and sent into our world. Jacob and Willhelm are given the task to find them and bring them home. That will be hard since they are all teenagers or young adults now, they were infants when they were stolen. Time is different on each side of the wall, that's explained in vivid detailed. I won't ruin this review with any spoilers.
The further into this story you fall, the more you feel it all around you. Once you enter Fallada, it's as though every fairytale you ever heard comes alive in all new and interesting ways. I have just ONE problem with a part in the story. When the party existed the ship, they were two days journey from the Fae Kingdom. They put on the tailismens which were supposed to block out the mirrors, and yet Eranna used her mirror and easily located them a day later. After speaking with the author, there IS a small part missing that was overlooked during beta and editing that explained that Eranna was able to use the mirror despite the talismans due to how much stronger she'd grown in the dark arts. Mystery solved there and hopefully if the book comes out with a second edition that part will be added.
Adrah's abilities are simply mystifying and it's a wonder she's the queen of all the Fae. With her abilities and her heart I'm sure she could win anyone over and warm the coldest heart... Well maybe not the coldest, I doubt anyone can get through that hollow black void Eranna calls a heart.
Selena and Titus' interactions will bring the reader a whole range of emotion, most of the time a smile or a soft chuckle. They are definitely the light in the dark times they ae engulfed in.
I think the thing I enjoyed most were the desciptions of the different kingdoms. Goldun and Damu are such a contrast to each other in sight, sound, and smell, as well as the beings that are citizens are each. The descriptions are just detailed enough for you to form your own image of them, and hints of the things Selena smells waft to you from your imagination, but thankfully they aren't over done like you find in some books where the author just tries too hard. Alicia Michaels has hit the nail on the hammer with her style, it's sure to please every reader younger and old.
I have to admit, Selena's speech did bring tears to my eyes. It was very well "spoken" and had I been there I would have been the first to stand with her for the coming of the Red Dawn. I was sorry to see her story end and I hope she makes a return, if nothing more than a cameo appearance in the story of Eranna's daughter which I'm sure is the next in this series.
There's a couple of editing errors that are easily missed to the untrained eye, but nothing too drastic to turn the reader off.
I give this story 5 of 5 paws

Ok, so you've all heard of the Brothers Grimm right? Well, you are in for a treat because Alicia Michaels brings to life all of their wonderful stories in the land of Fallada. Here, the flowers are lush colors of reds, yellows, and blues. The grass is so green and soft, the tree's are full and lush. The water is the sweetest you've ever tasted and don't even get me started on the food. There are giant minotaurs, and centaurs, tiny pixies and life size fairies. The shape shifters are what i think are really cool though . I love a good werewolf. Especially when they come in a yummy package with dark hair, blue eyes, and a muscular body. Who can resist that. Not me.. Especially not Selena.

Oh, did i tell you this story had 7 princesses and a dark Queen who is hell bent on ruling all of Fallada? Oh boy.. this is not any ordinary queen. She's beautiful and vain yes. she's got an all seeing eye that she uses to see what her enemies are up to and attempts to be one step ahead of them at all times. This evil queen will stop at nothing to rule and she has even possessed some of the shape shifting werewolves so that they can be her leaders in the war she intends to start just before the Red Dawn approaches and all of Damu regains their power. When the princesses were all little The Evil Queen Eranna kidnapped them and sent them out into the world of men never to be seen again. See, there is this prophecy that if the 7 princesses come together they will stop Eranna and keep her from taking over Fallada. Eranna can't have that and will destroy all of Faladda in her quest to take it over. There is one huge flaw in her plans though, one of the missing princesses was found and has taken her rightful place in the kingdom of Damu.

Selena, the eldest princess of Damu is home. She's never quite fit in in the world of men and now she knows why. she is not a regular teenage girl. There are much bigger things going on for her now. Selena is a huge part of the prophecy. She is the start of Eranna's down fall and Errana's afraid she might just succeed. With the help of her newly found father and brother Selena starts to learn of her wind powers and how to yield them to her will.

Will Selena and her warriors be ready for the war of the Evil Queen? Will she be seated on her throne during the Red Dawn? Will the World of Fallada be saved? You need to find this out in this wonderfully written beautifully described book that is the world of the Fallada.

I want to emphasize that fantasy books are something I don't normally read, but on occasion, it is good for me to get out of my "comfort zone." I could certainly read historical fiction until it is coming out of my ears (as long as it is well-written), and I really wanted to help the author out and promote her book. So, I agreed to review this book.

This is your typical fantasy-romance with a few twists and turns to make it interesting. You ready for the thing that really intrigued me? This is small, but I found it important. The "hero's" name is Titus! When do you ever see this good, old-fashioned Bible name any more? And this made me somewhat more interested in this character. I also loved that it took place in Texas--I lived there for a while, so I always love it when books take place in areas where I actually lived. While these are not earth-shattering revelations, but it goes to show that sometimes the most insignificant detail in a book can make or break the book for the reader.

As stories go, it's nice enough, and I even found myself liking the main character, Selena. I could have done without the fleeting outbursts of profanity, but there was another part that confirmed the rating I have given this book. There were several romantic scenes in the book, and it was clear that the chemistry between Titus and Selena is there in a real way. I was fully expecting a bedroom scene or a sex implication. But nothing could have been further than the truth! How about this for a refreshing viewpoint? "Let's wait until we get married. Let's make our wedding night special." Is it possible that men like that exist in the real world? Maybe not. After all, this is a fantasy world. I want to thank the author for the sentiment, and I am certain to be a loyal reader of hers from this point onward!

Overall, this book kept my attention for the most part. I would have preferred a different ending or at least an ending that was somewhat more drawn out. But that is just a personal opinion. True fantasy lovers will absolutely love this!

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Selena Mckinley lives in Twin Oaks Texas with her grandmother. She keeps to herself and has one best friend Zoe. But all eyes are on Selena because she excels in athletic abilities, abilities she just took for normal. That is until she runs into a boy that turns out to be a wolf that wants to kill her. With the help of the two grimm brothers she journeys to a world called Fallada where fae people have been waiting for her return as Princess of Damu and lead them into battle against an evil queen.

She finds that the wolf - Titus -  send to kill her was under a spell and forced to kill her. Soon her feelings for the wolf become intense and she finds love in a former enemy. But she has to accept her place in this world, and her role in it to win the first battle against evil. To embrace your destiny and overcome your fear is not that easy.

When you're suddenly running for your life things get real crazy. Selena starts out to be unsure and scared with her destiny, but with some help she finds the courage to embrace it. Her character develops into a great warrior and princess. Titus was a perfect boyfriend and great gentleman. Seldom you see this side in male characters, he never dominated the situation but rather assisted and followed.

With a book filled with fae, my first comparison was the fever series of Karen Marie Moning, but a lot more subtle without so much adult content.   I loved the full descriptions Alicia did when we start going into Fallada and onwards. I could picture what Selena saw on her journey and that's great writing. Her writing style is easy to fall into and even adult readers won't feel lost. I must admit I can't wait for book two, this one was a remarkable and exciting journey and I won't mind another one.

My favorite quote: "Courage is a man or woman's ability to lean into that fear, to embrace it and draw strength from it,"

I love YA and Fantasy books. Yes, I am an adult, but it is one of my guilty little pleasures in life. I especially love it when authors take the traditional fairy tales we grew up knowing, and tweak them and add some twists (and hot werewolves!). Yes, I have a thing for werewolves too.
Selena is a 17 year old girl that lives in Texas with her grandmother who has raised her. She has no idea who her birth parents are, but hopes to find them one day. She has always felt like an outcast, and has made a promise to herself that the day after graduation, she would load up her car with whatever possessions she has, and get as far away from Twin Oaks, Tx as possible. She just never realized how soon that would happen.

Selena has always had a thing for running, and loved to run in the fields to release stress, and to just run free. Something about that feeling eases her. Until one afternoon, when she meets a handsome stranger, Titus. Little did she know how much this one cutie would change her entire world.

Titus was sent to kill her by an evil Queen, or else his entire family would be killed. He is also a werewolf (did I mention how much I love werewolves?). He soon realizes he does not want to kill Selena, far from it, but how else could he save his family who is being held captive by said Queen?

Enter the Grimm Brothers. They are there to save her from Titus, the evil Queen, and anyone else that would be sent to harm her. The only way to ensure her safety, as well as the safety of her grandmother and her best friend, Zoe, is to travel to Fallada, where she belongs, where she will resume her role as the Princess of Damu.

Is Selena ready to accept this fate? To meet her family? To become a Princess, and leave behind the only world she has ever known for 17 years? Does she really have it in her to save Fallada?

Selena is a young girl from a small town with only one ambition: to escape Twin Oaks, Texas. Never having fit in with any of the cliché cliques at school, Selena always felt like an outsider, never having belonged anywhere. That is until one day she meets a boy in a field with the most beautiful blue eyes, and everything changes.

Thrust into a world that is a hundred percent crazy and a thousand percent magical, Selena finds that for the first time in her life, she may actually belong. And who knew her once seemingly useless existence could bring about such a revolution?

Okay, so this was a surprisingly good book for me. It had been a while since I read a good fantasy YA, and this just hit the spot. I loved the vibrant descriptions the author used to describe the fantastical world Selena was thrown into. And I was really impressed with the originality of the plot along with how it was beautifully executed. You could connect with the characters on a personal level, which gave a sense of reality to an otherwise insane storyline.

My only complaint with this book were the amazing amount of editing errors. Names were changed 3/4 quarters of the way through, and there were missing letters to words, and sometimes missing periods at the end of a sentence. Despite how awkward that was to read through, I didn't find that it took away from the story. It's just something I'm a stickler about.

Overall I was very impressed with this first installment of 'The Lost Kingdom of Fallada' series, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Daughter of the Red Dawn just entered my top fae book list at no 2, just below fever. I am so impressed with this novel, and can't wait for the second edition.

Selena is a seventeen year old girl with an abnormal speed ability. Her whole life she felt out of place and not fitting in with other humans. One day she meets a boy in the field, and this kicks off her wild new journey. Selena was never meant for the human world, she was meant for the world of Fallada, even more she is the princess of Damu and must lead the first battle against an evil queen. For a seventeen year old girl this is a total shock and she tries hard to run away from it. But destiny doesn't ask your approval merely your participation. She finds her truelove in the wereboy send to kill her, Titus. He was charged with her death before she could reach her world, but failed, instead he found his mate and choose to stand and fight with her. Soon they are preparing for the battle of the red dawn, and the first step to free their world of evil.

A marvelous adventure, and very addictive. I was swept into the tale very fast, and Alicia's descriptive details about Fallada help me pitcure this wonderful world filled with remarkable creatures. I loved reading how a fearfull Selena embrached her destiny and became the daughter of the red dawn. Even more was the steamy love between her and Titus.

If you are looking for a fabulous fae read, this is it. I am anxiously awaiting the second adition to this wonderful story.

Daughter of the Red Dawn (The Lost Kingdom of Fallada) by Alicia Michaels

3.5 Stars

A cross between Fairy Tale and Fantasy, Daughter of the Red Dawn is the first in what I assume will be a seven book series. There are seven lost daughters of Fallada and my thought is that there will be one book per girl. The first instalment takes us on a journey to reunite Selena, the Princess of Damu, with her homeland.

I have read many fantasy stories and unfortunately this one didn’t bring anything new to the table as far as plot is concerned. It followed the fantasy recipe I see all too often, and have mentioned before in my reviews of this genre. It seems that this formula is a requirement and I will just have to accept it, so I would at least like to be given something unique within the plot to allow it to stand out above the rest and give me something to guess at instead of the whole thing being totally predictable, as was this.

That being said I love the way this author writes, she has a comfortable and poetic way with words, which easily allows the reader to fall into the story, snuggle up and stay there until it’s over. As far as fantasy goes this is a very well written, visually dynamic, easy to follow book and I would love to read more by Alicia for her writing style alone, I would just like the story line to be more individual because that combined with her writing would prove to be an exciting read.

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Love is not a strong enough word for this book. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy, but this didn't seem like your typical run-of-the-mill fantasy story, so I gave it a shot, and boy am I glad I did!! The opening sequence just grabbed me, especially when the Brothers Grimm were mentioned, and I was reading as fast as I could to see where it would go from there. While at the start, it was a little hard to keep up with all the unusual names and where they belonged in the story/depiction of Fallada, it got easier the more I read.

And speaking of Fallada, what beautiful descriptions! The author actually conveyed her image of Fallada and all its lands and inhabitants through her words, and I could picture everything in my mind as though I was standing there myself. Wonderful imagery, and it greatly adds to the story.

Meanwhile, the characters are just loveable, especially Selena and Titus, and I can't wait to see what happens next, both with them and the land itself. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book, as the Epilogue has me sitting on the edge of my chair, wondering whose story will be told next, and how it will affect what we know so far.

Amazing story I would recommend to pretty much anybody who loves making a movie in their head while reading =)

5 stars (but really a ton more)

Daughter of the Red Dawn by Alicia Michael

Rating 5*****

This book was provided free from the author in exchange of honest literary review.

Selena never felt like she fit in among the other student in her small Texas town. In fact, she dreamed of graduation so she could finally free herself from the country life. When Titus came along her whole world switched literally.
She always knew she posessed freaky powers when it came to speed, once the Brothers Grimm showed up at her house things went to down right bizarre. Could it be that she is in the wrong world all along and she does have a life where she belongs?
I fell in love with this novel. it is a delightful mix of paranormal romance, folk lore, and fairy tales. Selena is a wonderful character who is temperamental, stubborn, and all around loveable. I also like how each of the characters were described with intricate detail to put a vivid picture in the readers mind.
The plot is a whirlwind for sure. It has a mix of everything from romance and suspense to kick butt battles. can you tell that I thoroughly enjoyed this one?
My only complaint here is there is an awesome few chapters of the next one in the Fallada saga in the back.....only it isn't release yet.......I am very much in a hurry for the next one!!!!!!

Daughter of a Red Dawn was absolutely awesome! It was the perfect mix of fantasy, romance, and action. It reminds me of a YA version of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is extremely well written and filled with beautifully descriptive language that makes you want to turn page after page to see what is coming next. The characters are well rounded and well developed. Selena (AKA princess Eladria) is everything you would want your main character to be. She is unsure of herself at first, but grows into her destiny with strength and grace. Watching her develop as a character was very enjoyable. I loved how the author brought in the Grimm brothers, as well. Reading what really became of them, and how all the stories that they had written were indeed reality was a great twist that I sincerely hope the author touches more on in her other writings. The romance between Selena and Titus is sweet and loving. The story truly reads like a modern day fairytale and I absolutely fell in love with the way it began and ended: being narrated in first person, by Queen Adrah. Queen Adrah’s last words left me wanting more and I can’t wait for the series and adventure to continue. The way I look at it, there should be at least another six books (or one can hope, anyway!). I would highly recommend this book to any lover of fantasy!

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

Oh where to start, first I want to say that this author is an excellent story teller...she writes under different pen names and I just really like her! Her other pen name is Elise Marion...and yes I recommend her work!

This is the story of Selena...a little lost princess...she doesn't know it, and has been living in the regular old human world....She lives with her grandma...and works at the DQ...well she happens to meet a mysterious boy name Titus...she is drawn to him...and him to her...well Titus has been sent to assassinate her from the land of Fallada by an evil queen!!!! Well he just cant do it....but he does try...oh and by the way..Titus is a wolf...and on his last attempt poof in come the Brothers Grimm!!!! Well we find out who Selena is, and that Grandma actually found Selena in a basket at the county fair...see all the little princesses of high importance in Fallada were sent off and lost....and now it is important that they be found to defeat Evil in there land!

I really enjoyed this book, and can not wait for book 2....you will love it too! I recommend....there is all kinds of good stuff in this book, from love to hate...struggle and fighting...family reunions.... and victory!!!!

4.5 Friendly Fairies!
Daughter of the Red Dawn is immediately engaging. The introduction of the main character Selena effectively captured my attention with the successful description of her personality and characteristics. No doubt there will be many young adult readers who will be able to relate to her character.

Selena is a highly likeable young woman at the fringe of society and at the brink of so many changes. It's these many unforeseen changes that makes Daughter of the Dawn such a compelling read. The action introduced to the book starts pretty early on and continues in pace and action. There's always a fear when there's so much action at the start of a book that it could easily fizzle out creating a lull; however, there most certainly are not any lulls in this book. The action, teamed with the character developments, especially the blossoming relationship between Selena and Titus, builds superbly well at a controlled pace with a lovely descriptive narrative.

The ending successfully sets up the reader for the next installment in this series, and creates a tidy ending, maybe even a little 'too tidy'. However, as the first installment to a YA fantasy series, Alicia Michaels has done a marvelous job.

I recieved this book as a prize in a giveaway from the author.
First off I LOVE the cover. I love the red hair, the red cape, the forest background and the wolf. So awesome!! I liked the prologue and epilogue, how it was narrated by someone other then the main character and gave extra information to the story. I loved the "Litttle Red Riding Hood" mess to the story, but how it was nothing like the original story at all.
I enjoyed all of the characters, but especially our main character Selena who started off as a loner and basically overnight had to become the leader of a nation and be strong enough to defeat an army of evil. I enjoyed the romance, even when at times it was a bit cheesy with the whole "love at first site", but otherwise tolerable. Even thought Titus was a werewolf (I'm super afraid of them), I decided that he was probably pretty hot and had redeemable characteristics. Also, I liked how "gram" was thrown into the mix.
I can't wait for the next book. Hopefully there will be seven books, each about one of the missing princesses and that they are all based on more fairytales characters. Thanks Alicia for the great read"""

I read Daughter of the Red Dawn by Alicia Michaels. I recommend this book. I loved the beginning, middle and end! It begins with a 17 year old girl, Selena, living in Texas with her grandmother. She has an extraordinary power. Also introduced are the Grimm brothers who are the only humans still allowed into Fallada. This is a realm that Fae, Werewolves, Centaurs, Elves and more creatures humans do not think exist live. This realm is beautiful and did live in harmony with Earth at one time. There are queens and kings there and now one queen, Eranna, became evil and wants to take over all of Fallada. She gathered all seven of Fallada's princesses and casted them into the human world so they would not inherit their thrones. The Grimm brothers are sent to find the princesses and bring them back and fulfill a prophecy of the Red Dawn. Eranna sends Titus to kill Selena because she is one of the lost princesses, but he can't... Titus and Selena are drawn together. There is so much beautiful description in this book that it comes alive. This new world that is created is wonderful! This is a great read!

Daughter of The Red Dawn, this book was my new favorite fantasy, fairytales, mythology, paranormal, and romance book! The story was great and the concept is not boring and
I'm starting to fall in love to fairytales again! lol!!

As I was reading this, I easily fell in love with the characters. They are not boring and they are interesting. The story of the was great, I love how it was made and the story is not predictable, and I love how the book started and the POVs.

I love the characters personalities, especially the main characters, and the type of creatures they were. It was definitely well written book. The flow of the story was great, I love it that I was able to expect the unexpected things that will happen to the story and the events that will happen next. The part that really was my favorite was the climax of the story. While I was reading it, I'm having chills and it really blows my mind. And of course my most favorite part, the ending of the book, I loved how the story ended. I was satisfied and it really made me excited reading the next book and hoping that it would also be as good and the book one

Selena always felt like she didn't belong and is just counting down the days until she graduates and she can move on. Things start going strange for her when a mysterious guy shows up and before she knows it, she is thrown into a war amongst the the supernatural and she is one of seven lost princess' that will change the fate of things. Can Selena believe that this all true and change the way things are or will she turn back and return to her "normal" life?

I am a huge fan of Alicia Micheals and this book did no disappoint! I was instantly connected to Selena and was pulled into her life where things aren't always easy but yet she is strong willed and pulls throw things. I was pulled into the fairy world where all creatures are threatened but yet there are the one's that want things to change.

I thought the book was well written and the flow was perfect. I didn't feel like there were any gaps in the story and wasn't left wanting more (well of course I want to see what happens next but you know what I mean LOL).

Definitely a must add to your collection!

Selena is a teenager living in small town America and can’t wait to leave. She has never fitted in, never belonged and only hopes that once she finishes school she will find her place. When a stranger walks into her life she learns exactly how different she is. Thrown into another world to find she is a lost Princess who is now needed to thwart an evil queen, who banished her in the first place. She has been planning to take over the magical world and only Selena, along with six other banished Princesses can stop her. Selena has to deal with magical creatures, a family who she has never known and her soul mate, who happens to be a werewolf.

Alicia’s writing style really lets the story flow to great effect, her description when Selena crosses into Fallada are wonderful, I really felt as though I could see it all. I also love the twist of the way Selena and Titus talk to one another it works well. It is an enchanting fairy tale that everyone will love.

Absolutely incredible! Must read! Definitely don't want it to end!

I was asked to review this book, and was totally captivated by it, it is a beautifully written tale of a 17 year old girl who under duress, and duty undergoes a transformation into a strong, warrior, and an amazing woman. The author takes us through this transformation with incredible skill in description, I got so easily lost in the pages I forgot I was supposed to be reviewing it, I could feel Selena's heart, thoughts and see the world around her.
A great read for fantasy lovers of all ages. I have already gifted this book to friends. This is a masterpiece in teenage literature. I can't wait for the next one.

I love fantasy novels and this one was high upon my list of favorites. I love how simular this book is to Narnia and Lord of the Rings. I also found it comparable to one of my favorite movies, Stardust. Selena's character reacted just like any teen girl would who found out she was a long lost princess. She was freaked out! I would be too. But there are alot of perks in being who she is and one of those perks is an awesome kingdom to live in.
Fallada seems like a place where anything can happen and I look very forward to reading the other stories in this series. The only thing I would change would be the cover. I do not think it did this story justice. This is now one of my favorite books of the year. If you haven't read it, you need too.
