She thinks we’re enemies.

I know… we’re inevitable

Brody

Discipline is everything.

It dragged me out of my past.
Turned me into a college hockey star.
Prepared me to inherit my father’s billion-dollar empire.

Control. Routine. Self-restraint.

Then she moves in down the hall. Chaos in human form.
She’s self-destructive, reckless, and impossible to predict with a mouth designed to offend.

The girl is fearless, and she treats me like no one else has ever dared to.

She’s exactly the kind of girl I should stay far away from. A distraction like no other.

Instead, my father puts me in charge of her.

Now her mess is my responsibility. Her mistakes are mine. Her attitude is my problem. Her late nights are mine to answer for.

And the more I try to control her… the more obsessed I become.

She’s beautifully broken, and I can’t stay away.

I want to keep her exactly where she is—
under my control.

Vicious Obsession is a dark bully romance featuring a possessive hockey playing hero, and the plucky, damaged heroine he sets his sights on. This book contains dark romance themes and is only suitable for adults.

Awesome, the prologue was him hooking up with a random girl, and she just had a front-row seat. Granted, they didn't know each other at this point; they're literally strangers. But what's the point of that scene?

Shame, I was interested in reading Selena's redemption, but that scene just ruined the entire book for me. Might work for other readers, though.

When her bestie drags Selena Carmichael to a party at Hade Harbor University’s Alpha Zeta Rho fraternity, she has an unexpected run-in with Brody Sinclair.

When she sees him again, it’s in her new stepfather’s mansion. Where she’s being forced to live. With him. Because he’s her new stepbrother.

Disciplined, ambitious, and completely in control, Brody has one goal: becoming CEO of Sinclair Industries. Selena, on the other hand, is everything he isn’t: chaotic, defiant, impulsive, and seemingly determined to test every boundary. And to ensure the family name isn’t tarnished, Brody is now in charge of ensuring she behaves as is expected of a Sinclair. Easier said than done.

As Selena’s painful past and self-destructive tendencies begin to surface, Brody finds himself doing the one thing he never intended to do: giving a fuck. Turns out even the most disciplined man can be completely undone by the right woman.

Mila is the queen of crafting alphaholes who only care about themselves and the beautifully broken women who bring them to their knees. And the forbidden step-sibling element? Absolute chef’s kiss. 🤌🏻

Book 5 Vicious Obsession (Selena and Brody) - to be released in May 2026
Selena on the surface was this mean bitchy high school cheerleader who at a guess would probably peak in high school and then have a life of regret, reminiscing of when she was popular and powerful . But seeing more of her in Book 3 as Winter's frenemy you know that she's also had a difficult home life and her recent college experience was distressing. Brody is this mouthy British hockey player in the local league against the Hellions and now Selena's stepbrother. His past is tangled up with Daddy issues. So looking forward to both of them getting their HEA

I thought this was similar to the other God’s books in this series. OTT/P hero who worships his heroine right out of her trauma. Better than therapy.🙃🙃I did like this one better than the last book in this series.
(Possible spoilers ahead)

Background:
There is an OW scene in the first chapter, but it wasn’t that bad. Brody (H) doesn’t have penetration smex with OW. He boinks her boobs.

He’s actually very weird about smex because his daddy has always stressed to him that women were slushes- who liked to put holes in condoms. So much of his smex life has been “other” things until the heroine. It almost felt like the author was saying he never had penetration smex before…without actually saying that. 🤷‍♀️ idk I didn’t feel like he was a manho.

Once he met the heroine, he was pretty much all about ONLY her. He nicknamed her “heathen” and it fit her personality. I usually hate nicknames, but I didn’t mind this one. He didn’t use it excessively

The heroine has some trauma. She used to be the popular cheerleader. She’s not a V, but she’s been celibate since the gRape. (She’s been mentioned in this series before but tbh, I don’t remember her)

In freshman year, she was lured to a date with a guy. He drugged her, then he gRaped her along with all his friends. They recorded it. Everybody at school found out. She was considered “damaged goods”
She took a year off, now she’s back. She’s completely changed and it sounds like she’s more emo. She thinks about drinking and suicide.

Anyway, the heroine works in the library. She sees the hero boinking OW’s boobs. She hears him be an arsehole to OW. So…they’re off to a fantastic start. 😜
Naturally, they both find out their parents are now married and the MCs now share a Jack and Jill bathroom.
The tension and banter between the two is 🔥🔥.

It’s supposed to be a bully book, but I didn’t think there was much bullying. Mostly, Brody was just controlling. Brody just has a lot of responsibility riding on his shoulders due to his dad. He starts being controlling with the heroine so she doesn’t dirty up their reputation.

There’s this OM named Nick. He also plays hockey. He gives off incel vibes (which proves to be true later on)
The heroine went out on one double date with him, but Brody put a stop to that quickly. The heroine wasn’t interested in Nick.

All the previous Gods make appearances in this book along with their heroines. You can tell that Brody and his twin have become part of the Gods group.

There’s actually NOT a lot of smex in this book. There is a lot of foreplay, though.

It was a predictable book. If you’ve read other books in this series, it follows the same formula. Hero helps the heroine overcome her trauma by giving her confidence and a good dixking. 💁‍♀️ The bad guy(s) get their comeuppance and the parents get put in their place. You get small tidbits for the next couple in this series.

The epilogue is like 6 months later where Brody proposes, the heroine accepts, and they boink. HEA.

Cal (Brody’s twin) is next. I bet his heroine will be Aisha.

Brody and Selena are everything. Hands down one of the best books in the series.
The instant chemistry between our two MCs is intense but then you add in the resistance, longing to try to hate each other and Brody trying to “control” Selena’s image, it was a recipe for a huge emotional clash of the best kind.
The book dives deep into trauma and coping mechanisms so be sure to read the trigger warnings.

The book is gritty and real. I saw myself in a lot of this book and wished I had a Brody, Cal or Winter in my corner. This story had me crying, laughing, scared, angry and happy with a speed that gave me whiplash. Loved every minute of it.

I am completely speechless. Mila Kane has truly outdone herself with Vicious Obsession. This book is a dark, intense, and intoxicating addition to the Hellions of Hade Harbor universe.
The Plot:
The story follows Brody, a disciplined college hockey star destined to inherit his father's billion-dollar empire, and Selena, his chaotic, reckless new step-sister. Suddenly, her mess becomes his responsibility, her mistakes are his to fix, and her late nights are his to answer for. What starts as an unwanted task quickly turns into a dangerous, dark obsession as he tries to exert absolute control over her. The tension is thick, the bully romance aspects are perfectly executed, and the emotional payoff is incredible.
The Characters:
Brody. The ultimate possessive, alpha-hole hero. He hides a dark past behind a cold demeanor and intense discipline. He has a thick accent, fights dirty, and acts
completely unhinged when it comes to protecting what he considers his.
Selena. A phenomenal, resilient, and "bad-ass" heroine. Despite being deeply broken and damaged by her past, she wears her armor proudly. She refuses to stay submissive, fights back constantly, and possesses a mouth designed to offend.
Favorite qoutes:
"Instead, my father puts me in charge of her. Now her mess is my responsibility. Her mistakes are mine. Her attitude is my problem."
"And the more I try to control her... the more obsessed I become. She's beautifully broken, and I can't stay away."
“I want to keep her exactly where she is- under my control."
Mila Kane knows exactly how to write independent, fierce heroines who can bring even the most insane anti-heroes to their knees. The tension between Brody and Selena is electric, the banter is top-tier, and the character growth is phenomenally well-done. If you love protective heroes who would burn the world for their girl, run to read this book!

Mila Kane writes some of my favourite dark romance books purely because of the amazing plots and the unworldly level of unhinged she achieves with her mmcs. They’re step siblings, which I realise is becoming a trend in this series, and there’s nothing I love more than a love that is forbidden and a little taboo. She gives major “bad girl” vibes but it’s a coping mechanism for her trauma, and Brody sees past it and loves her anyway (I mean not at first but eventually, and he was gone from the very start he just didn’t know it yet). This book has some majorly dark topics, such as on page attempted rape, suicidal ideations, and more so please do check your triggers. But I did love Mila’s approach to mental health issues and showed that healing often isn’t linear and Selena’s relapses felt so real they hit a very deep spot in my heart. There is so much enemies to lovers banter between them at the start, but they have a fatal attraction that cannot be contained. The plot was exquisite, with so many insane plot twists that had me gripping my pearls. I love how the plot balanced romance, spicy time, and character development. I fell so in love it the characters that their changes and major development made me feel so fulfilled. I love how Brody saw Selena’s true potential and although he acted like a pompous asshole with all his rules, his encouragement acted as the primary reason for her increased self confidence and allowed her to overcome significant milestones in her healing journey which had me crying my eyes out. This book was a masterpiece and utterly beautiful and angsty. I can’t wait for what comes next in this series, Cal and Aisha seem like they will be next in a class grumpy sunshine book and I can’t wait. I give this a 5/5

Hot damn! This is my first book by Mila Kane and I’m in love. Already got her other books in this series after chapter 2 :-). Grumpy controlling romance is my jam. Especially when it comes to sports romance. If you’re someone that needs to check trigger warnings, you will want to do this, but it’s more about Selina’s past. Brody is all about this girl from the day he laid eyes on her even if he didn’t want to be, but he isn’t going to ruin their family name, and he will make sure of it. Excuse to spend time with her? Maybe. :-)

I loved this book! The push and pull of these characters can be felt throughout the book. The personal growth that these two cause each other to have is beautiful because they really do care for each other and their friend's. I definitely recommend reading the triggers warnings before reading.

This is the fifth book in this phenomenal series, and this is Brody and Selena’s story.
Brody has always controlled his life, and is the star hockey player, while Selena is stubborn, feisty, reckless, and my word the trauma this girl has gone through is unimaginable. Brody and Selena cross paths in the library, only to find out that they are now stepsiblings. Selena is weighed down by baggage, and she just wants to finally finish college, and Brody’s father puts him in charge of managing her.
This is a well written easy to read, slow burn, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, tension, angst, bullying, enemies / lovers, obsession, complex characters, chaos, trauma, healing, humour, witty banter, intense chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, haunting, twisted, and unpredictable, dark romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Book 5 in the Hellions of Hade Harbour series, is Brody and Selena’s story.
This story has some dark topics that will have you feeling all the emotions. Selena’s journey is full of ups and downs and is really emotional, but she is such a strong person stronger than even she knows.
Brody really annoys me in some parts especially all the rules and taking away Selena’s clothes but he really is vital in her journey. How he sees who she really is and is so encouraging and really helps her see who she is. It’s beautifully written, the angst, the connection between Brody and Selena makes this such an amazing story. I ended up loving Brody so much. The twists and turns were incredible and the flow of the story was perfect. This is a phenomenal series and each book has me falling for a Hellion.

I absolutely love this series, how the stories from the earlier books link together, and show what happens after their HEA.
The ebb and flow of the plot, and writing it crucial for a good story and this one aces it! Selena and Brody are wonderful characters. Brody is so controlling at the beginning as he is on his quest to be the perfect son, when he continuously seeks validation from his father. Selena is in survival mode and doesn't care as long as she stays invisible except to a handful of true friends. There is only one phrase that springs to mind for their early scenes, and that is when an unstoppable force hits an immovable object; Neither give in and that makes this book pure entertainment. The second part of the story is just as good once their relationship deepens.
This is a brilliant story with some hard scenes, romantic entanglements and a wonderful ending.

Wrapped in dark and twisted events, Brody and Selena’s story is one of tragedy and pain with redemption within their grasp. Brody is the broody guy that is determined to make Selena’s life miserable, with his dad always berating him and trying to keep a tight leash on him, he knows how to reign her in. Selena’s story is heart wrenching in ways that will shred you as you read. Brody’s past is just as damaged and my heart hurt for them both. I wanted to see his mom and dad suffer so much. It was an emotional read that kept me dialed in from start to finish.

Thank you to the author and Grey’s Promotions for the gifted copy.

“I was damaged, and broken. And no one could ever pick all those pieces up.”

This book drew me in. I wanted to know the FMC’s story and why she was so beautifully broken. I honestly really loved her, her motivations, and the friendship she engendered. Also, I hated the parents but I’m pretty sure that was intentional on the author’s part.

Vicious Obsession

I think this book became my favorite of the entire series and of all the author’s books.

Selena and Brody.
And honestly… Selena completely stole the book for me.
Selena is the kind of character who was always there in the background of the previous books, but here we finally get to truly know her. Her story, her trauma, everything she went through… especially what is revealed in Winter’s book, her best friend.
And I won’t lie: I loved her.
There is this quiet, unspoken competition between Brody and me over who loves her more.
Because Selena is not just a character, she feels real.

“He made me feel like a victim again, when I wasn’t. I was a survivor.”

She is dealing with the consequences of everything she went through in book 4, trying to hold herself together the best she can. And yes, it’s not perfect. But healing never is.
And that’s what I loved most about her.
She doesn’t try to be “right,” she tries to survive.
When Brody enters her life, everything shifts.
She is chaos. He is calm.
And together… they just work.
Not because he “fixes” her, but because he sees her, holds her, lets her be, but also sets boundaries when she needs them.
He gives her space to heal, but doesn’t let her lose herself in the process.
Selena goes from licking her wounds to baring her claws.
And that’s the most beautiful part of her growth: she doesn’t stop being broken… she learns how to move with her pieces.

Brody.

This man is a perfect specimen, I won’t lie.
He is not a womanizer, not over the top, not that unrealistic chaotic male lead.
He is firm.
He is steady.
He is the kind of character who chooses to love and never doubts it.
From the moment Selena enters his life, he takes care of everything and everyone around her—even her.
And when he finally understands it… he accepts it without excuses.
He has that dangerous mix of obsession and tenderness that just works.

“What the hell happened to your foot? Wait… is that a knife?”
“You should see the other guy,” I murmured.

Because Selena is not a victim.
Selena fights.
And here comes what hit me the most in this book: fighting like a girl is not an insult. It’s a compliment.
She learns to defend herself, to hold herself up, to survive with her own hands.
And Brody doesn’t save her.
He walks beside her as she becomes her own salvation.
Selena is her own hero.
And in the end… she wins.
If you love devoted, intense protagonists—those who love without hesitation but still respect growth and healing—this book is for you.

For me, the best of the entire series.

Vicious Obsession

My Rating: 5 stars!

**ARC was generously provided in exchange for my honest review.**

Damn. Vicious obsession to a T! I am well and truly obsessed that if I had the ability to click my fingers to teleport myself on top of a mountain so I can scream my lungs out about this book, I would’ve already been camping on one from the moment I read the very first page. If it were possible to rate it an infinite amount of stars, I easily would!

Brody and Selena have had me in a chokehold ever since the premise, and now that I’ve read their story I don’t know what to do with myself as I’ve fallen into a deep book hangover. It’s THAT enveloping of a read!

I honestly didn’t think I would love any other MMC from this series more than Asher (Twisted Deeds), but alas (*wink wink* IYKYK), Brody has stolen my heart. Not only has Kane provided such intrigue surrounding Brody and his twin brother in the previous book, but these swoon-worthy British boys have gone and pulled a stellar job of assimilating into the world of Hade Harbor and within the original cast of characters. I’m already getting antsy just thinking about what’s next to come from this series, because it gets more and more addictive with each new addition.

Although you can read this and the rest of the series individually as each story centres around a different couple, I strongly suggest reading in publishing order as the world-building gradually expands with each book, as well as ongoing secondary storylines that crossover to the following book, and the following book after that, and so forth. Selena’s entire character arc really needs to be appreciated as a whole as she goes through a massive character evolution in this series. But you won’t see that unless you start from the beginning with Bad Intentions.

Who I initially thought would be no more than a female side character with very little redeeming qualities and a knack for riling one’s nerves throughout the past books in this series has, within the first few pages of this book inadvertently made me emotionally and mentally invested in getting to know her story. Kane has created such a genuine, raw, and strongly relatable character with a life story that is heart-rending yet highly moving at the same time. She’s a mixture of vulnerability and feistiness that has made her my favourite heroine from this series. Her mental highs and lows and volatile emotional state only made her more complex and third-dimensional.

This story, whilst set in a hockey romance world, contains dark themes and sensitive subject matters that some readers may find disturbing and/or triggering to read about. It’s not for the fainthearted. Please proceed with caution as it broaches on matters such as graphic violence, drugging, human trafficking, SA, stalking, harassment, blackmail, an eating disorder, depression, suicide, and the use of prescription medication. It also deals with alcohol and substance abuse, self-harm, and severe PTSD, all stemming from horrific events. This book is intended for readers 18+ only.

If you enjoy reading dark contemporary romances, sports/hockey romance with close proximity, enemies-to-lovers tropes, this needs to be added to your immediate TBR. The banter between Brody and Selena is not only highly entertaining and will have you in a fit of giggles, but they ooze sexual chemistry that’ll have you drooling for more. There’s an organic progression to their relationship; a slow burn but with plenty of saucy moments throughout that only supports building the anticipation to their romance.

Brody could not have been a more fitting MMC. He embodies charm, protectiveness, and power, and happily demonstrates all the above when it comes to Selena. I love the balance between them. The way they lower their defences around each other, the way they make each other feel, and the way they genuinely just get each other like no other. Sigh. I can’t fault this book. It may be a thought-provoking rollercoaster, but it’s one helluva ride that’ll stay with you long after.

It’s beautifully written and executed. The detailed backstories added a full circle moment with these characters. The dual POVs heightened the overall reading experience as you get vivid perspectives of certain events, their emotional and mental state, and how they navigate through their day to day lives. I thought the storytelling was very well-paced and constantly progressing, therefore, unputdownable.

There’s a great balance of romance, hockey, suspense, and a weighty plot that holds your attention. The secondary characters add another layer of comedic relief, a solid support system when there’s lack of a positive familial support present, and an overall close-knit friend group dynamic that coincides with Brody and Selena’s couple dynamic. These characters also assist in setting the scenes whether it be playful or on a more serious note.

Don’t let the step-siblings romance trope put you off from reading this book. Trust me when I say there’s nothing familial between Brody and Selena other than mere formality. Think of them as housemates who go from hating to understanding each other, to eventually developing undeniable romantic feelings for one another.

With effortless to follow storytelling, a plot that was oh-so plotting, and a lovable group of personalities, it’s an exceptional addition to the Hellions of Hade Harbor series that left me in awe and sighing in happy contentment. It broke my heart only to piece it back together. It’s a story I’ll happily read again and again whenever the mood calls for a hearty escape. If Kane wasn’t already an auto-read author for me, this book would’ve cemented her place on the list.

Immediately this has become one of my favourites of the series so far - Vicious Obsession by Mila Kane is the fifth book in the Hellions of Hade Harbor series.
Written as a standalone in an interconnected series, it definitely works on it's own if you've not read any of the others but to fully appreciate it, I highly recommend reading the series in order first.

Selena and Brody, the main characters, were entirely captivating and had so many layers that were slowly peeled away as the story progressed.
Selena, an original mean girl cheerleader has returned to Hade Harbor University after a year out to recover from trauma. She is suffering and carrying a lot of grief, pain, self loathing and guilt that hasn't really healed or been dealt with and she struggles with everything with very little support. Her one real friend knows the truth and is there for her, but with trying to keep the details a secret and an unsettled home life, Selena seems to careen from just about coping to spiralling daily.
Selena's growth and healing through this story was a pleasure to read especially the unexpected help and direction she received from Brody, an unlikely ally, considering the world of hurt she had experienced and the state of flux her family life was in. The coping mechanisms and channels that became available to her and a growing support network of friends, that were former frenemies, was endearing as I was pulled in feeling optimistically hopeful for her.

Brody and his twin Cal are British and with their sporting talent have arrived in Hade Harbor to join the successful university ice hockey team, the Hellions.
Their billionaire father has been grooming and preparing Brody to eventually take over the family empire and as a result he is all about control, routine and self-restraint in all aspects of his life. To others he appears entitled and arrogant, but again, with the slow peeling away of layers, the author carefully reveals to us other things that have contributed significantly to the shaping his character. He is full of charm, protectiveness, and power, and wields it confidently and with unquestionable command.

From the start the banter between Brody and Selena initially set the enemies dynamic between them with it's sharp wit and bite but it quickly becomes apparent that it is a strong foundation for their relationship. Brody relishes the control he imposes on Selena and she takes joy in being able to push his buttons to illicit inconvenient responses. Their interactions at times are highly entertaining but also feed the sexual chemistry and it's slow burn. Their chemistry simmers and sizzles, at times leading to some steamy moments. This naturally builds on the developing emotional connection they are starting to have for one another.
They are perfect for one another and the author illustrates a wonderful balance between them that starts in a confrontational manner and progresses when they start lowering their defences towards one another allowing the other to see something that they usually keep hidden from the rest of the world. The use of the dual POVs for the story telling throughout illustrates this really well as the perspective changes regularly depicting their self reflection as events and interactions occur and how their feelings are changing and growing.

The narrative was well-paced throughout and successfully weaves in dark themes and sensitive subject matter in a substantial plot containing suspense, action, and drama using a great cast of supporting characters and elements of humour, intrigue, steam and spice that only enhanced Selena and Brody's journey to a well earned and satisfying ending.

It is worth noting that because of the dark themes in this story it would be advisable to be aware of the trigger warnings it contains before reading this book intended for adults. That being said, this dark bully romance offers a highly addictive read and easily gets you invested in Selena and Brody navigating their initially inconvenient attraction to one another before embarking on a chaotic, emotional journey of healing and self discovery and realise that they were exactly what the other needed.

Vicious Obsession is a wonderful read that I couldn't put down and I definitely recommend it.

Thank you Mila Kane and Grey's Promotions for an ARC of this book and the opportunity to read and review it.

Honestly… I’m genuinely at a loss for words when it comes to Mila Kane and her Hellions of Hade Harbour series. It feels like only the other day I was thinking, “I really need to reread Hellions of Hade Harbour.” It’s one of my all time favourite series and, honestly, the series that got me completely obsessed with hockey romances mixed with a touch of dark romance. What more could a girl ask for?

So, imagine my shock when, while debating a reread and battling a long reading slump, I opened my emails and saw an ARC for book 5, Vicious Obsession. I genuinely had to reread the email twice because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

Firstly, thank you to Mila Kane for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

And now… Brody and Selena’s story. Ahhh. From the moment these two were introduced in the previous books, I knew I was going to be obsessed with them. Seeing them finally become the main characters was everything I hoped for and more. They’re each other’s sunshine, but also each other’s grumpiest person. The perfect balance of tension, banter, chemistry, and emotional depth.

Brody, with all the rules and his need for control. I’m not going to lie, at first I thought he was just being a controlling prick. But then, as he slowly uncovers Selena’s dark secrets and you discover his own, you begin to see the real Brody, not the one his father is trying to shape him into. You start to understand why he treats Selena the way he does, and it isn’t about controlling her. It’s about protecting her and protecting himself from having to suffer the trauma of losing someone he loves for a second time.

Selena… I felt for her, I really did. And I think a lot of girls, myself included, will be able to relate to her in certain ways. Going from the mean girl cheer captain to being labelled as damaged goods, feeling the need to hide from the world and wanting to find any way possible to silence the noise, the thoughts, and the past. She found a way to cope, and for a while that was enough for her. Then Brody came into her life, and no matter how hard she tried, he wasn’t going to let her carry on the way she was.

To begin with, she rebelled. But slowly but surely, Brody helped her find her confidence again. He helped her stop hiding and start living. Most importantly, he constantly reassured her that she was anything but damaged goods.

What I loved most 💜

🏒 Brody and Selena’s chemistry was electric from the very first chapter.

🖤 The dark, intense atmosphere that Mila Kane does so well was there throughout.

☀️ The sunshine and grumpy dynamic between them was addictive and felt completely natural.

💔 The emotional side of the story hit hard in the best possible way and made the characters feel incredibly real.

Vicious Obsession is intense, emotional, addictive, and beautifully written. If you’ve loved the Hellions of Hade Harbour series so far, Brody and Selena’s story will absolutely own your heart.

And honestly? I’m not ready for this series to end. 🖤📚🏒.

Thank you to Grey's Promotions and Mila Kane for providing me with this arc of Vicious Obsession (Hellions of Hade Harbor #5) in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5

I have been in a reading slump recently, and this amazing book has truly brought me out of it! Vicious Obsession is the exciting new installment of the Hellions of Hade Harbor series, which I have been patiently waiting to read. This whole series has been such a hit for me, and Mila Kane did NOT disappoint with the latest story!

I love love love me a Mila Kane man (Cayden West...!!), but honestly, Brody Sinclair may be taking my top spot, even if just by a smidge! The MMC Brody, along with his twin brother Cal (Callahan), is one of the two new hotshot hockey players introduced onto the team. (We see many familiar faces with the Ice Gods and their significant others.) The FMC, Selena Carmichael, a reformed mean girl, has been through a traumatic event and is now on a self-destructive path. Brody's rich father and Selena's mother have recently married, making them step-siblings.

I think the dynamic between the two MCS is great and develops in an authentic way. At the beginning, there is a delicious and tension-filled enemies-to-lovers/forbidden romance dynamic. Selena hates the egotistical hockey player who just loves dictating her life through all of his rules, and Brody hates the daughter of the gold digger. Yet, there is an unmistakable pull between the two of them.

Selena is really struggling with her mental health throughout the beginning of the book, and Brody acts as a rock, bringing her back. I believe that the author's depiction of Selena's mental health is actually very realistic, and I applaud the author not only for her sensitivity, but also for bringing awareness to this topic. Mental health representation is always important, yet sometimes, it is challenging to depict accurately. (While Mila Kane exceeded my expectations!) Brody, ever the alpha-man, pushes Selena to challenge herself, do things she enjoys, and find happiness again. Honestly, Brody is soooo down bad for his girl, and I love how he is unapologetically himself! Selena is one tough cookie, but Brody is nothing if not persistent. I loved seeing Selena come back out of her shell, and she is SUCH a BADASS!!!! Let's just say, if you cross this girl, keep her away from knives and boots....

Overall, this book was truly a five out of five star HIT read! Mila Kane has become a consistent must-read author, and every book she releases has been a BANGER! I recommend this to anyone who loves a dark and spicy sports romance with a great plot as well! I am left really curious about Brody's broody twin brother, Cal, and hope his book is next!!

Tropes:
- enemies-to-lovers
- dark sports romance (hockey)
- forbidden romance (step-siblings)
- reformed mean girl FMC x alpha male MMC
- morally grey MMC
- trauma/mental health rep
- found family

I absolutely loved this book.

At first glance, Selena is the kind of character that's easy to judge. She's beautiful, sharp-tongued, pushes people away, and can honestly be downright mean at times. She's the girl everyone thinks they have figured out. The problem is, nobody bothers to look beneath the surface.

And that's exactly what made this story so powerful for me.

The Selena we meet in Vicious Obsession is struggling. She's carrying around so much grief, pain, guilt, and self-hatred that she's practically drowning in it. Instead of dealing with it, she lashes out, makes reckless decisions, and keeps everyone at arm's length. There were moments where I wanted to shake her and hug her at the same time because watching her spiral was absolutely heartbreaking.

What I loved most was how Mila Kane slowly peeled back the layers of who Selena really is. The more we learn about her past, the more her actions start to make sense. She wasn't simply the mean girl. She was someone carrying wounds that never had the chance to heal.

As someone who has experienced trauma myself, I found Selena's journey incredibly relatable. Not necessarily the choices she made, but the emotions behind them. The pain, the anger, the self-destructive tendencies, the feeling of carrying something so heavy that it starts to affect every part of your life. There were several moments that hit me harder than I expected because her struggles felt so raw and authentic.

Then there's Brody.

Brody is everything Selena isn't. He's disciplined, responsible, focused, and has his entire life planned out. As a hockey star and the heir to his family's fortune, he's spent his life meeting expectations and staying in control. When his father asks him to keep an eye on Selena, he quickly realizes she's the one person capable of turning his carefully ordered world upside down.

I loved their dynamic so much. Brody spends half the book trying to protect Selena from the chaos she keeps throwing herself into, while Selena fights him every step of the way. The tension between them was incredible, but what I loved most was how Brody saw through the walls she worked so hard to build. He saw the hurt underneath the attitude long before she was ready to let anyone else see it.

The romance was emotional, messy, frustrating, and beautiful all at once. These two challenged each other, pushed each other, and slowly became exactly what the other needed.

By the end of the book, I wasn't just rooting for them to end up together. I was rooting for Selena to find peace. To stop carrying the weight of her past alone. To finally see herself with the same compassion that Brody saw in her.

This book surprised me in the best way. I came for the Taboo romance, but I stayed for Selena's story. Her journey was heartbreaking, hopeful, and incredibly moving, and she ended up becoming one of the most memorable FMC's I've read in a long time.

This is probably closer to a 3.5 star review for me..

Okay, so I really wanted to love this one because I was hoping Selena would get some sort of redemption arc. Throughout the first three books, she's honestly kind of an asshole, and while we do learn why she's so abrasive in this book, I still felt like something was missing. I wanted a proper apology moment—whether to Evie, Lily, or anyone else she hurt. It felt like the fact that she'd essentially been a bully herself was brushed over a little too quickly.

That said, her story is heartbreaking. Her trauma, upbringing, and relationship with her mother are genuinely devastating, and I felt deeply for her. I appreciated learning more about her and seeing her acknowledge that she used to be a mean girl and understand why she became that way. There was definitely character growth there. Still, I couldn't help wishing she'd gotten some form of therapy because this girl desperately needed it.

I also thought the book was far too long. It felt like it dragged in places, and the pacing struggled to keep me engaged. The storyline involving her sister, Cici, never really seemed to go anywhere. It felt like it was introduced primarily so Brody could hold it over Selena's head, but beyond that, it didn't have much impact on the overall story.

As for Brody, he's your standard hot, possessive bully MMC. I loved how protective he was of Selena, and despite being controlling and demanding, he still respected that she was her own person. I also felt like Selena opened up way more to him than he ever did to her, so it's almost like she still doesn't know him all that well before she's in love with him - if that makes sense?

The ending was another point of frustration for me. Without giving too much away, the kidnapping plotline felt repetitive. Having another character get kidnapped just felt like overkill at that point.

I also found myself getting annoyed with some of Selena's decisions. Nick was obviously suspicious, and I was surprised by how often she ignored her instincts in favour of thinking that he was harmless when she had endured something traumatic.

There were also a few moments that felt like plot holes. For example, there's a scene in the gym where Brody would realistically have seen the scars on Selena's legs, yet later in the shower he reacts as though he's seeing them for the first time. Small detail, but it pulled me out of the story.

I did find the twist involving Brody's dad interesting, and actually wish we had a bit of higher stakes with their involvement and the whole stepbrother/stepsister thing be a serious issue.

Honestly, I'm far more interested in Cal's story and where Mila Kane takes his character next. He's been so quiet and mysterious throughout the series that I found myself more invested in his future book than I was in this one.

@ is one of my all time favorite authors and I will read anything and I mean anything she writes. I've never once started one of her books and not been pulled into the story instantly. Book slumps do not exist when it comes to her books. This story is taking us back to her interconnected Hellions hockey series. Her dark romance stories are always the best. Plus she is the Queen of Easter Eggs.

Please make sure you read trigger warnings
If you are a survivor this one can both be hard and healing for you 🧡 I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to
Selena
We met her in previous books, she is Winter's best friend and was the mean girl until Winters story where we learned she was SAed. She went from popular mean girl cheerleader to baggy clothes, piercings and freezing up when she is surprised or scared. She's growing and becoming a better person but she believes she's damaged goods and blames herself for what happened to her. However her fire never dies and her smart mouth was my favorite thing. She is fiercely loyal to her younger sister who is going through a lot. She fights like a girl and takes back her life.

Brody
Raised to be the heir to his father's company but plays Hockey with his twin brother. His heart is locked up tight for anyone who isn't his brother. He doesn't believe in fun, just preparing to be CEO. His father is verbally abusive and controlling and has basically brain washed him into never doing anything for himself. Just the family reputation. Be is bossy, controlling and insanely kind (don't forget obsessed). He goes neck to neck with his new stepsister Selena. When he sees a ghost from his past in her he is determined to stop her from self-destructing.

This book was so intense with the feelings and I LOVED seeing them grow throughout the book. Everyone deserves a second chance. The Ice Gods gaining two more was amazing. I absolutely am manifesting who Cal will end up with. I devoured it the second i started it and completely forgot to wrotedown notes but highlighted sooooo much. I didn't know how I'd feel about her story but Mila has a way to make you love everyone (and hate the actual badguys) Selena was such a badA throughout the story but especially the ending. It was everything!
Thank you for another great story and for my amazing Eastereggs.

I absolutely LOVE the Hellions Of Hade Harbor series, it’s one of my FAVORITE dark hockey series! Vicious Obsession by Mila Kane is book five and it is a DARK bully romance that blends so perfectly obsession, angst, healing and pure hot as fire chemistry! Stepsiblings that are so enemies to lovers will have you devouring this book!

These two, Brody and Selena. Two that I never saw coming yet they were absolutely destined to be! We have met her in the previous books, she was the mean girl, cheerleader captain. And one horrific night changed everything. This girl has been through one of the worst traumas ever. And she’s truly trying to get back on her feet. She is strong, a survivor, she can be so funny and loving and she so deserves an absolute soul deep love. He is the broody, possessive, alpha, gorgeous British hockey player. He and his twin Cal have come to America and are playing hockey and attending the university. His whole life has been planned out, to become the CEO of his Dad’s billion dollar company. This man SEES our girl. He sees beyond the banter, (and it’s such good banter!), he sees a girl hurting and so alone. And the way he steps up to help her is priceless. The chemistry and connection is undeniable. And they fall, closer and closer. Their passion, his mouth, it’s all just pure fire!

I LOVE the found family in this and getting to see everyone from the previous books. The way they are there for each other is so good! These men are obsessed with their women and I love it!

This book made me feel everything. Absolute heartbreak, anger, laughter, and watching a beautiful healing take place and a soul deep love. I love how Mila always writes stories that are real and raw. The mental health and struggles Selena faced were so true to life. And how it’s just not easy to “get over it”. And to have people around you that love, support and SEE you is everything! Truly love this series and I can't wait for the next one! Can we please have Cal’s story Mila?

Vicious Obsession is a dark and emotional addition to the Hellions of Hade Harbor series. Focusing on Brody Sinclair, a possessive British hockey player, and his new stepsister, Selena Carmichael, it delivers a compelling enemies-to-lovers romance packed with tension and angst. From the moment they meet, the animosity between Brody and Selena is impossible to ignore. Brody views Selena’s mother as a gold digger and want her out of his family and meanwhile Selena refuses to conform to the expectations of her new family. Their rivalry only intensifies when Brody’s father puts him in charge of keeping her in line and ensuring she behaves in a way that reflects the Sinclair family name, creating plenty of friction and memorable confrontations.

One of the strongest aspects of the book is Selena’s character growth. While she doesn’t undergo an unrealistic transformation overnight, she gradually becomes a far more sympathetic and likeable character than the one readers first met earlier in the series. Once a typical mean girl, beneath her rebellious and self-destructive behaviour lies a young woman struggling to cope in the aftermath of a traumatic experience. While she isn’t always easy to like, her journey of self-discovery and healing felt authentic and rewarding. Brody was equally engaging as a hero, he was able to see beyond Selena’s defences to the pain she was hiding. This pair couldn’t be more different with Brody thriving on routine, with every aspect of his future carefully planned. Selena, on the other hand, is chaos incarnate, taking delight in disrupting his carefully ordered world. Yet as she turns his life upside down, Brody begins to understand that there is more to life than rigid control and that a little spontaneity can be a good thing. The chemistry between them was intense from start to finish, and the emotional tension kept the pages turning. Their connection developed naturally amid the conflict, making their inevitable eventual romance all the more satisfying.

This was an incredibly addictive, page-turning read. Fans of bully sports romances featuring two emotionally damaged protagonists and plenty of sizzling chemistry will find a lot to love here. I strongly recommend both this book and the series.

After surviving the unthinkable at The Cove, Selena left Hade Harbor for a year to try to bury her demons. Now she’s back on campus, where her mother announces that she will be forced to move in with her stepfather and his sons. Little did she expect one of them to be the same man who saved her from drowning at a party, and seems to have made it his mission to make her life miserable. Despite how much she tries to hide from her past, he sees her in a way that no one else ever has, and soon she’s finding herself sharing more than just her secrets with him. Despite the undeniable pull she feels towards him, she knows that he won’t stay by her side once he learns the truth.

Since he was 13, Brody’s entire life has been about control, with his father pulling the strings. Now he’s a college hockey star and first in line to inherit his father’s empire, both of which depend on his ability to maintain the perfect image. When Selena and her mother move into the house, he knows that his perfectly planned life is about to be shattered, and when his father puts him in charge of making sure Selena knows how she’s expected to behave if she wants to be a part of their family, he sees her as just another thing he can control. But the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes there’s more to her than ratty clothes and a bad attitude, and soon he finds himself not only wanting to see her demons, but slay them.

I received an early copy of this book from Grey’s Promotions and I absolutely loved it! Selena was a secondary character in the previous books who left a lasting impact, but watching her story unfold was a gift. Her transformation from who she used to be to who she is now shows the depth of her pain, and yet when she felt like she had completely lost control of her life, it took Brody to help give some of it back to her. Brody has spent his entire life so regimented that he hadn’t even realized he wasn’t really living it until Selena came in and turned it all upside down. Somehow when her chaos met his control, magic happened, and I’m not ready for their story to end.

Vicious Obsession reminded me exactly why dark romance is one of my favorite genres.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC through Grey's Promotions and Mila Kane, and from the very first chapter I was hooked.

Selena has been through more than anyone should have to endure. At college, she's labeled "damaged goods," and she uses alcohol to numb the pain. When her absent mother suddenly calls and announces that Selena will be moving in with her, her new husband, and his two sons, Selena's world is turned upside down.

Those sons happen to be Brody and Cal... the new hockey gods on campus. Brody is also the guy who once pulled Selena from a pool and gave her CPR. What started as a confused kiss during mouth-to-mouth was all it took to change everything. Brody doesn't let people touch him. He doesn't kiss anyone. But Selena kissed him... and he kissed her back.

Brody lives by discipline, control, and routine. He's been raised to inherit his father's billion-dollar empire and believes discipline is everything. Then Selena moves in down the hall, bringing chaos with her. She's reckless, self-destructive, impossible to predict, and completely unwilling to bow down to anyone...especially Brody.

When his father puts him in charge of keeping Selena "in line," Brody sees her as another responsibility. But the harder he tries to control her, the more obsessed he becomes.

What I loved most about Selena was that she refuses to let any man make her feel small. She pushes back every chance she gets, and Brody isn't used to anyone challenging him. Their constant power struggle, tension, and chemistry made this book impossible to put down.

Brody is possessive, obsessive, controlling, and completely consumed by Selena, while Selena is strong enough to stand her ground and refuse to be broken. Together, they create the kind of dark, addictive romance that keeps you turning pages long into the night.

If you love dark romance with an obsessive hero, forced proximity, family drama, hockey players, intense chemistry, and a heroine who refuses to back down, Vicious Obsession is definitely one to add to your TBR. CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS WARNINGS!

First of all, thank you for the ARC!

I have loved this series since the very first book, and after buying the previous four books myself, I was beyond excited to get the chance to read Vicious Obsession early.

My heart absolutely broke for Selena. Seeing her struggle with her trauma while feeling like everyone around her had moved on with their lives was heartbreaking. What I loved most was how realistically her PTSD was portrayed. It shows how someone can be drowning on the inside while nobody around them truly realizes how much they’re hurting, especially when they don’t have a strong support system.

I have to admit that Selena wasn’t one of my favorite characters in the previous books, but this book completely changed that for me. I went from disliking her to sympathizing with her, and by the end I genuinely loved her character and wanted to see her heal and find happiness.

And then there’s Brody.

Cayden will always have a special place in my heart, but Brody completely won me over. I never expected to love him as much as I did, especially considering he was introduced later in the series, but he quickly became one of my favorite Ice Gods. The way he cares for Selena, supports her, and helps her rebuild her confidence was everything. The sweet moments honestly had me melting just as much as the spicy ones. And every time he called her “sweetheart”? I was done for.

The tension between them was incredible. I loved watching them fight their feelings, the banter, the secret relationship aspect, and the way they constantly kept each other on their toes. Their chemistry was undeniable from start to finish.

My only small disappointment was that I would have loved to see more of the friend group dynamic and especially more of Selena’s friendship with Winter, as I was expecting a bit more from that relationship.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book. It was emotional, heartbreaking, sweet, spicy, and full of character growth. Brody and Selena completely stole my heart, and this is easily one of my favorite books in the series.

5 stars!

Vicious Obsession is the fourth book in the Hellions of Hade Harbor. Brody Sinclair and his brother move go Hade Harbor play hockey. He just met his dad’s new wife and hates her. He suspects and believes that this woman is a gold digger and he is willing to do anything to get her and her daughters out of their life. He doesn't know anyone so they go to a party to try to get to know the hockey team. There he meets this girl who's very different from anything he's ever seen. When something happens to her, no one helps but him. They share a moment together but then she runs off. So he doesn't expect to see her again. Until the next day, when she walks into his house and finds out that she is his new step sister.

We first met Selena in her best friend's book, Twisted Deeds. She was a mean girl, a cheerleader, and cared about fashion. The only person she was loyal to was her best friend. She suffered something traumatic and moved away to recover. In this book, she's back because her mother is married to a rich man. She is shocked that the guy she met is her new stepbrother. He seems to like structure and is uptight so she pushes his buttons. He encourages her to do things to keep her out of trouble. As much as she hates to admit it, the more time she spends with Brody, the healthier she gets. He slowly starts getting her out of the shell. They spend a lot of time together they form a bond that turns into feelings.

Mila Kane had me so emotional with this one. I felt so much for Selena. Not only going through what she did but having to constantly be reminded of it and trying to numb the pain away by any means. I felt bad for Brody too. He kept his pain a secret except from his brother. I loved how much he pushed her, how he knew something would bother her before she told him. I love how great they were for each other. Their chemistry was great and you could see they were always there for each other. I loved seeing all the ice gods together and I love the girl squad. This was a rollercoaster for sure. It’s filled with drama, heat, humor, danger, suspense, and insane twists.

Selena and Brody story. Mila Kane honestly writes the best book boyfriends ❤️ Brody honestly had the sweetest things to say. This man fell and fell hard. I’ve been waiting for Selena’s story and damn it came through. She got the love and life I was hoping for. I loved that she got a second chance to battle a monster and came out victorious this go-round.

Brody might have been totally alpha, but I loved his girl positivity:
Isn’t it useless to ‘fight like a girl’? Don’t all the instructors tell women to run if they can?”

Brody shrugged. “Sure, run, if you can. If you can’t, then you fight like a girl.”

He stepped closer to me. Something in his tone made me think the phrase wasn’t an insult coming from him. “

Meaning?” I wondered.

He tapped his fingers on my temple. “Smarter. That’s your girl superpower. Your brains.”

I also really liked this scene between the theater people and Selena during her audition:

Do you have any acting experience?”

I shook my head. “I… no. No more than any other woman does, I mean.”

…“And women?” Director Cho prompted.

I shrugged. “Acting like they’re okay, or that they feel safe. That the world isn’t scary. I think everyone knows how to act at least that much every single day.”

⁉️Does Aisha get a story? cause I’m kind of adoring this girl! She’s such a great hype woman for Selena throughout the book.

Seriously Ronan Black sounds delish. Where have I seen his character before? ETA: he’s Brian O’Connors stepson in “Runaway Queen,” and Brans stepbrother, the son of an Irish mob boss who uses his mother’s maiden name for legitimacy. Remember, Bran was in prison with Nikolai in book #1 of this series. *Bran got his own book, but it’s been almost 2 years and the series hasn’t continued even though we know Brans got another brother Killian and a sister Quinn :( Will Ronan get a book? 🤞🤞

Cal’s story is next and I’m so ready for it. Even better if we get Cal and Aisha together 🙏Let’s be honest Cal wasn’t around much but when he was around he was aces. Also he deserves a good love story. His mom abandoning him and his twin Brody, just to come around and make him feel dumb for his dyslexia sucked big time. May he find a love that repairs the wounds left by that terrible woman.
