June 17, 2026Awesome, the prologue was him hooking up with a random girl, and she just had a front-row seat. Granted, they didn't know each other at this point; they're literally strangers. But what's the point of that scene?
Shame, I was interested in reading Selena's redemption, but that scene just ruined the entire book for me. Might work for other readers, though.

So...the release date got moved to 17 June and still I missed reading it in the first week 😭 but better late than never.
It's pretty much what I expected BUT this isn't a bully romance. There's a couple of pranks and a few harsh words but this couple liked each other from the off - the pool scene was 👩🏾🍳💋
I'm glad Selena wasn't placed in the victim role for too long and that mainly through her own efforts she was able to overcome her traumatic past.
And dare I say it Brody wasn't that controlling. Yes he could be unreasonable and the PI arc was interesting, however all seemed really standard stuff. He was kind to Selena, which was lovely to see. Taking time to address her fears and give her space. I'm glad he shut down anyone who had the audacity to call her 'damaged goods'.
Great to catch up with the other 'Ice Gods' (stupid name for a group of hot hockey players) 🙄 and their girlfriends and see their interventions. They love interfering and coming to the rescue.
The 'villians' were moronic, unfortunately true to life and hiding in plain sight. It's a great day when dirtbags get the shit kicked out of them.
My last thoughts, why are all the parents either absent, neglectful or cruel? Fantastic for a character's traumatic past but often not quite right for the characterisation. I guess the benefits are that allows for shenanigans and high jinks which wouldn't be possible with parental oversight.
All in all a solid entry in the series.
Next book is Brody's twin Cal and Selena's new theatre friend Alisha.

Selena on the surface was this mean bitchy high school cheerleader who at a guess would probably peak in high school and then have a life of regret, reminiscing of when she was popular and powerful . But seeing more of her in Book 3 as Winter's frenemy you know that she's also had a difficult home life and her recent college experience was distressing. Brody is this mouthy British hockey player in the local league against the Hellions and now Selena's stepbrother. His past is tangled up with Daddy issues. So looking forward to both of them getting their HEA

I thought this was similar to the other God’s books in this series. OTT/P hero who worships his heroine right out of her trauma. Better than therapy.🙃🙃I did like this one better than the last book in this series.

Background:
There is an OW scene in the first chapter, but it wasn’t that bad. Brody (H) doesn’t have penetration smex with OW. He boinks her boobs.
He’s actually very weird about smex because his daddy has always stressed to him that women were slushes- who liked to put holes in condoms. So much of his smex life has been “other” things until the heroine. It almost felt like the author was saying he never had penetration smex before…without actually saying that. 🤷♀️ idk I didn’t feel like he was a manho.
Once he met the heroine, he was pretty much all about ONLY her. He nicknamed her “heathen” and it fit her personality. I usually hate nicknames, but I didn’t mind this one. He didn’t use it excessively
The heroine has some trauma. She used to be the popular cheerleader. She’s not a V, but she’s been celibate since the gRape. (She’s been mentioned in this series before but tbh, I don’t remember her)
In freshman year, she was lured to a date with a guy. He drugged her, then he gRaped her along with all his friends. They recorded it. Everybody at school found out. She was considered “damaged goods”
She took a year off, now she’s back. She’s completely changed and it sounds like she’s more emo. She thinks about drinking and suicide.
Anyway, the heroine works in the library. She sees the hero boinking OW’s boobs. She hears him be an arsehole to OW. So…they’re off to a fantastic start. 😜
Naturally, they both find out their parents are now married and the MCs now share a Jack and Jill bathroom.
The tension and banter between the two is 🔥🔥.
It’s supposed to be a bully book, but I didn’t think there was much bullying. Mostly, Brody was just controlling. Brody just has a lot of responsibility riding on his shoulders due to his dad. He starts being controlling with the heroine so she doesn’t dirty up their reputation.
There’s this OM named Nick. He also plays hockey. He gives off incel vibes (which proves to be true later on)
The heroine went out on one double date with him, but Brody put a stop to that quickly. The heroine wasn’t interested in Nick.
All the previous Gods make appearances in this book along with their heroines. You can tell that Brody and his twin have become part of the Gods group.
There’s actually NOT a lot of smex in this book. There is a lot of foreplay, though.
It was a predictable book. If you’ve read other books in this series, it follows the same formula. Hero helps the heroine overcome her trauma by giving her confidence and a good dixking. 💁♀️ The bad guy(s) get their comeuppance and the parents get put in their place. You get small tidbits for the next couple in this series.
The epilogue is like 6 months later where Brody proposes, the heroine accepts, and they boink. HEA.
Cal (Brody’s twin) is next. I bet his heroine will be Aisha.

I found this an easy, darkish hockey read and more of a slower burn than the previous books in the series.
We met Selena earlier in the series. She’s was the bitchy cheerleader‑captain friend of Winter, and after an extremely horrendous attack she leaves Hade Harbour to heal and deal with her trauma. When she returns, her mum has married a billionaire — standard — and now she has hot English twin stepbrothers, Brody and Cal. Lucky her.
When Brody and Selena first meet, it’s in an extremely compromising circumstance, and they take an instant dislike to one another. Brody is not a fan of her non‑conforming ways and brands her a heathen, and she thinks he’s an arrogant fuckboy, happily giving him the title of bellend 🤨🤣
Brody is then given the task of looking out for his new stepsister to protect the family name by his father, for whom nothing is ever enough. Sparks fly and the push and pull begins.
Much like the previous books in the series, we once again have a very, very OTT darkish, obsessed MMC who somehow manages to also be pretty sweet. There’s action, revenge being served, and the MCs dealing with past traumas. As this is a dark hockey romance, please check TWs if you have triggers, as there are some upsetting topics within the story.
Of course there’s plenty of filthy spice and a sprinkling of the dark hockey Ice Gods friendship throughout.
I’m interested in the next story about twin brother Cal and, I think, Aisha. I do love a cold, quiet, brooding MMC, so fingers crossed for that one. That’s it — not bad overall.

I vaguely remember this heroine from her appearance in the previous book and I'm so happy to see that she gets her own happily ever after. The phoenix-type transformation was wonderful to see. I can't wait to get the brother's book!

Series going downhill
I absolutely enjoyed the first three books in this series, and have read them multiple times. But from Marcus’s book on, it’s been a dumpster fire.
The author notes in her acknowledgment that she has two editors, really? This book was littered with grammatical errors and missing words, that I wondered if it was edited at all. It seemed rushed and not very well thought out. There was also information that was never explained or tied up. A lot of loose ends.
I appreciated learning a little more about Selena; her trauma, unfortunate upbringing, and the fact that was able to realize that she used to be a mean girl - and why - and admit it wasn’t the best of choices. Her character grew and evolved.
The MMC wasn’t that interesting at all. He had his moments, but overall lacked that “wow” factor that Cayden, Beckett, and Asher all have.
I honestly bored throughout most of the book and the climactic parts - spice included - left little to be desired.
I can only hope that the author doesn’t do further characters injustice by writing them a mediocre story - like Selena’s and Marcus’s - and maybe finds new editors who actually catch the errors.

I enjoyed the FMC’s healing journey and redemption arc, (she played a villain in the earlier books in this series). I really liked the FMC and MMC together. The book felt like it dragged on a little at the end, but overall I had fun reading it and I’m excited for Cal’s book!

The instant chemistry between our two MCs is intense but then you add in the resistance, longing to try to hate each other and Brody trying to “control” Selena’s image, it was a recipe for a huge emotional clash of the best kind.
The book dives deep into trauma and coping mechanisms so be sure to read the trigger warnings.
The book is gritty and real. I saw myself in a lot of this book and wished I had a Brody, Cal or Winter in my corner. This story had me crying, laughing, scared, angry and happy with a speed that gave me whiplash. Loved every minute of it.

I am completely speechless. Mila Kane has truly outdone herself with Vicious Obsession. This book is a dark, intense, and intoxicating addition to the Hellions of Hade Harbor universe.
The Plot:

Mila Kane writes some of my favourite dark romance books purely because of the amazing plots and the unworldly level of unhinged she achieves with her mmcs. They’re step siblings, which I realise is becoming a trend in this series, and there’s nothing I love more than a love that is forbidden and a little taboo. She gives major “bad girl” vibes but it’s a coping mechanism for her trauma, and Brody sees past it and loves her anyway (I mean not at first but eventually, and he was gone from the very start he just didn’t know it yet). This book has some majorly dark topics, such as on page attempted rape, suicidal ideations, and more so please do check your triggers. But I did love Mila’s approach to mental health issues and showed that healing often isn’t linear and Selena’s relapses felt so real they hit a very deep spot in my heart. There is so much enemies to lovers banter between them at the start, but they have a fatal attraction that cannot be contained. The plot was exquisite, with so many insane plot twists that had me gripping my pearls. I love how the plot balanced romance, spicy time, and character development. I fell so in love it the characters that their changes and major development made me feel so fulfilled. I love how Brody saw Selena’s true potential and although he acted like a pompous asshole with all his rules, his encouragement acted as the primary reason for her increased self confidence and allowed her to overcome significant milestones in her healing journey which had me crying my eyes out. This book was a masterpiece and utterly beautiful and angsty. I can’t wait for what comes next in this series, Cal and Aisha seem like they will be next in a class grumpy sunshine book and I can’t wait. I give this a 5/5

Hot damn! This is my first book by Mila Kane and I’m in love. Already got her other books in this series after chapter 2 :-). Grumpy controlling romance is my jam. Especially when it comes to sports romance. If you’re someone that needs to check trigger warnings, you will want to do this, but it’s more about Selina’s past. Brody is all about this girl from the day he laid eyes on her even if he didn’t want to be, but he isn’t going to ruin their family name, and he will make sure of it. Excuse to spend time with her? Maybe. :-)

I loved this book! The push and pull of these characters can be felt throughout the book. The personal growth that these two cause each other to have is beautiful because they really do care for each other and their friend's. I definitely recommend reading the triggers warnings before reading.

I clearly have a vicious obsession with hockey player MMCs who would do anything for their girl. While there were a few things I could nitpick, this was an absolute vibe from start to finish. I devoured it in one sitting because it was that entertaining, and honestly, that's the biggest compliment I can give a book. Easy 5 stars.

I really tried to like this book but I genuinely loathed Selena for a big chunk of it. She does absolutely grow, but she basically did no work on herself and then suddenly the magic of a guy fixes her. I disliked the message immensely. Even until very late in the book when she in her healing arc, she calls herself DAMAGED GOODS for being raped. I hated that so much.
Even Brody wasn't that great. His weird revenge arc was just bizarre. I didn't even get why he hated his step-mother so much. And how stupid was Selena's mom to act how she did with a prenup? It was just a case of almost everyone in this book having a serious case of TSTL. Yeesh, it was painful.

2nd current reading at 45%. It's kind of interesting because both the MCS basically don't know anything about each other even at this point. Other than the fact that the MMC does know that the FMC self-harms but she has almost no idea about his sister Emily and he really doesn't know much about her sister who (has an eating disorder and autism and is) in a special school that his dad is currently paying for. Just like at this point she hasn't connected that the cop and the guy Nick know each other and are related I'm assuming they're probably Brothers. I feel like the book would have had a little bit more of an impact if they had a prologue that actually talked about what Selena went through since this is technically a standalone not everyone has read the other books in the series and I think that a prologue would have made us care about the characters a little bit more especially Selena. Originally I was listening to this using TTS but I think I'm just going to read it and skim through the dialogue because there's a lot of extra descriptive internal dialogue and it kind of bogs down the storyline. At this point I'm pretty sure we've heard about them running and working out at least 18 times in detail.

Why is this book soooo long? It drags. At this point you could get rid of half those pages and still get the info you needed and had a cohesive story.
I do like her interactions with Cal,MMC twin bro.
Also he keeps using her sister's education over her head but earlier in the story she makes the connection that Brody can't hang her clothing over her head because his dad gave her a black card and she can buy whatever she wants. So why doesn't she just take the black card and pay for all of her sisters education right now? Just like her going shopping with Brody later and him buying colorful clothing and she wants to wear black so why didn't she just buy all black clothing? She knows that he thinks her mom is a gold digger and wants his dad to break up with her so why wouldn't she try to secure her bag and pay for shit now while she has access to the money instead of playing games with brody. It just doesn't make sense.

Brody and Selena were absolute chaos from the start. The enemies-to-lovers tension was so good because neither of them was willing to back down, and every interaction felt like it could turn into a fight, a hookup, or both. Their chemistry was ridiculous.
What I loved most was that underneath all the anger and banter, both characters were carrying so much baggage. Selena especially broke my heart. She puts on this fearless, reckless front, but the more you learn about her, the more you understand why she is the way she is. Her journey felt incredibly raw and emotional.
And Brody? The man never stood a chance. He spent half the book pretending he had everything under control while becoming increasingly obsessed with her. Watching him go from annoyed to protective to completely gone was honestly one of my favorite parts.
This book is definitely darker than some of the others in the series, so check the trigger warnings, but I thought the heavier topics were handled really well and added a lot of depth to the story.
This was emotional, messy, unhinged, and completely addictive. Once I started, I genuinely didn't want to put it down.

Did I see Selena getting a book? No but I absolutely ate it up like it was nothing. This book was so freaking good. I read it in one sitting these two are just so perfect for each other and they deserve each other so badly. I love seeing everyone together, cause I love this group so much and how they welcome Selena and Brody into the group.
Selena character development needs to be studied because if you told me a year and a half ago that I would like Selena, I would think that you were crazy but I love her so freaking much and now she’s my girl she went through so much my heart just breaks for her. I love seeing her grow and become more open, especially with theater and her friendship Aisha was amazing.
Brody and Selena parents ran away, got married, even though neither the kids haven’t met each other yet so when Serena mom makes her move into the mansion she finds out, that she did meet Brody before in the library with a girl. So from there, they already hated each other, but that definitely didn’t last long because their chemistry is just so good.
Brody, Brody, Brody, the man you are! I freaking love Brody. He may seem like a rich prick, but once she gets to know him, he’s just amazing. I may love Brody, but cal his twin. He’s my soulmate. It’s just something about a quiet MMC that does it for me. Brody is so hot and protective and I love that about him.
I couldn’t put this book down for nothing the plot, and tension had me so engaged in the book. Both characters backstory is just so heartbreaking i’m so happy they found each other because they definitely belong together. I hope the next book is Cal and Aisha because I need them together

Brody has always controlled his life, and is the star hockey player, while Selena is stubborn, feisty, reckless, and my word the trauma this girl has gone through is unimaginable. Brody and Selena cross paths in the library, only to find out that they are now stepsiblings. Selena is weighed down by baggage, and she just wants to finally finish college, and Brody’s father puts him in charge of managing her.
This is a well written easy to read, slow burn, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, tension, angst, bullying, enemies / lovers, obsession, complex characters, chaos, trauma, healing, humour, witty banter, intense chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, haunting, twisted, and unpredictable, dark romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Brody really annoys me in some parts especially all the rules and taking away Selena’s clothes but he really is vital in her journey. How he sees who she really is and is so encouraging and really helps her see who she is. It’s beautifully written, the angst, the connection between Brody and Selena makes this such an amazing story. I ended up loving Brody so much. The twists and turns were incredible and the flow of the story was perfect. This is a phenomenal series and each book has me falling for a Hellion.

I absolutely love this series, how the stories from the earlier books link together, and show what happens after their HEA.
The ebb and flow of the plot, and writing it crucial for a good story and this one aces it! Selena and Brody are wonderful characters. Brody is so controlling at the beginning as he is on his quest to be the perfect son, when he continuously seeks validation from his father. Selena is in survival mode and doesn't care as long as she stays invisible except to a handful of true friends. There is only one phrase that springs to mind for their early scenes, and that is when an unstoppable force hits an immovable object; Neither give in and that makes this book pure entertainment. The second part of the story is just as good once their relationship deepens.

I was excited about the twins and Selena’s redemption and that book exceeded my expectations.
It had everything: great banter, hot spice, raw emotions, juicy drama, vulnerability and a perfect combination of dumb youth and maturity that comes from trauma, not age.
There were a few choices that pissed me off, though:
(MINOR SPOILERS)
Why didn’t she just SCREAM after leaving the diner? Cal would hear and we would avoid the aftermath.
Also, it made no sense for someone as possessive, attentive and caring as Brody to leave Selena in the hospital and then just leave the town for a few days with not even a daily phone call, leaving her completely in the dark about his plans and everything else, too, really.
Other than that, it was a fun ride. Can’t wait for more.
