Driven by guilt, biotechnology researcher Amanda Aligheri spends every waking moment in her Silicon Valley laboratory. Desperate for a change, she makes a New Year’s go to Napa, relax, and achieve some balance. The problem? There’s no chance to soul-search while tempting-as-sin winemaker Liam Flynn is around. Mandy and Liam have history together, and one glance at his easy smile reminds her exactly why she fell for him the first time.
A software engineer at heart, Liam Flynn left a lucrative position at a San Francisco tech company in order to help his dad manage their third-generation family winery, and he’s done his best to take the business to the next level. Two years ago, sparks flew between Liam and Mandy, but the moment he mentioned commitment, she turned and fled back to the safety of her lab. When Mandy shows up at his winery, she’s just as beautiful, intelligent, and stubborn as he remembers…but this time Liam isn’t giving up without a fight.
Will one romantic, wintery week in Napa be enough for Liam to convince Mandy he’s the one for her, or when the new year comes will she forget about her resolution and return to Silicon Valley—and her research—without him?
Elisabeth Barrett lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and spends her days teaching, editing, writing sexy contemporary romance, and enjoying time with her sometimes-bearded husband and three spirited children. She is constantly perfecting her home-work-writing juggling act, but in her free time she loves to hike open space preserves, grow orchids, bake sweet things her husband won’t eat, and sing in grand choruses.

I love Elizabeth Barrett’s writing, with the level of description she gives, you can’t help but feel like you are actually in the story with the characters, seeing and experiencing the things they are, and with the depth of emotion you definitely experience her characters ups and downs with them as well.
”Your’re starved for excitement, for life. Why don’t you let yourself be free?”
New Year’s in Napa follows on from Christmas in Tahoe it was good to see Annie and Chase again, but this story is about Liam Flynn and Amanda Aligheri, who met, albeit briefly two years ago when she visited Liam at his home in Tahoe. Their chemistry was undeniable, but Liam was looking for longevity and commitment, and Mandy wasn’t, her commitments were elsewhere, brought about by feelings of guilt and responsibility.
”Did you like the ride, Amanda?”
I liked the dynamic between these two it is usually the guy who is against commitment and the dominating character in the story, but Mandy took both those titles for this one. Don’t get me wrong, Liam did eventually go for what he wanted both from her, and from his life in general, but for the most part Mandy was the driving force in the reigniting of their relationship fires.
”I don’t want to spend the rest of my life wondering what if? I want to spend it wondering what next.”
Another enjoyable novella from the imagination of Ms. Barrett, I just wish it didn’t take a year between each one!

If you want a cute, sweet, quick, and sexy read, I'd say go with an Elisabeth Barrett story. You simply can't miss. And she's done it again, with this new West Coast Holiday story, set two years after Christmas in Tahoe.
The hero and heroine of this story actually met in CiT, and created history. He offered, wanted everything in return, and she turned him down. Turns out she had her reasons, which were pretty valid once she shared them with him (and the reader). Maybe she went a bit overboard, but still, she had her reasons. And she was determined to overcome them, or more specifically, not be all about work, but do something for herself for a change. Be a little selfish, if you will. And Liam, the hero, was more than willing to help her.
I won't give anything more away, so I suggest you read this one as soon as it's available, or request it via NetGalley like I did.
I'll just say this. I loved it from beginning to end. It was emotional, sweet, and sexy. It had two great protagonists, a wonderful supporting cast (I hope Stella gets her HEA in a future story), wonderful scenery of wine country, the requisite little twist toward the end (one that didn't bog the story down, but gave it that touch of realism, because real life isn't perfect as Romancelandia)...
There are some authors I read that seem to be able to draw me in immediately with their characters and author Elisabeth Barrett is one of those authors. Every time I read a book by her I feel as though I’m reading a friend’s love story messy life and all and such is the case with New Year’s In Napa. Two people who shared one special moment 2 years ago meet again and find that time and distance haven’t changed the feelings they had and this time they are both ready to explore them and see what happens. Both Amanda (Mandy) Aligheri and Liam Flynn are struggling professionally but in different ways. Mandy is trying to find balance in her life after dedicating her whole life to her research for the past 2 1/2 years and Liam is feeling the need to get back to producing something that excites him while still helping his family with their winery. I enjoyed watching these two not only work through the issue that drove them apart before but help each other find the passion they both needed to feel whole and complete both in their personal lives and their careers. I love that they pushed each other to see all sides of their issues and were there to lend support and offer advice, and maybe even push a little in the right direction but they respected each other enough to know that it was a personal decision that had to be made and only one person could make it. I enjoy sexy, steamy stories and there were some great moments of passion in this book but it was the relationship as a whole that made this book so special. The development of the characters, the growing feelings, and the adult way they handled their problems. Yes, there was conflict but there weren’t accusations, innuendo, and hurtful words and they resolved it ways that seemed real and right for the intelligent people they are. New Year’s In Napa is another fine example of Elisabeth Barrett’s attention to detail, superior writing, and sophisticated style that I have come to appreciate.

Elisabeth Barrett is wonderful at what she does. And what she does is write, sweet, romantic books. New Year's in Napa is book two in her West Coast Holiday Series and I am kicking myself for missing book one (Guess it's back to Amazon for me).
New Year's in Napa is almost a second chance romance book but not quite. But never fear, it's endearing and enjoyable and holds that wonderful small town feel to it that Ms. Barrett created in her Star Harbor Series only this time without the intrigue.
Amanda Aligheri is focused, driven and brilliant. She has spent the last two and a half years with her head in the lab and her heart on hold. But this year, she is determined to make some changes, to come up for air and to remember just who Amanda Aligheri is. So when her best friend asks her to weekend in Napa with her and her fiancé, Amanda agrees. Ready to face the world, Amanda isn't quite ready to face the man who two years ago, asked her for everything.
Liam Flynn, is suave, charming and dedicated to his family. After his father had a serious heart attack, Liam left the tech world behind and headed for his family vineyard. Basically happy where he is, Liam still wants that special connection. When Amanda Aligheri shows up at his vineyard, Liam is once again smitten. Having to let her go last time was the hardest thing he could do. This time... he's not going to be so understanding.
Priorities.. that's what this book is about. Balancing life and love. Making sacrifices for family, friends and yes work. Compromise.. sounds kinda eh, doesn't it? But it's not. It's wonderful. I love Elisabeth's characters, quirky and sweet.
It was a joy to watch Amanda and Liam's romance develop. To watch both of them grow into the people they are supposed to be. To watch them realize that life can't be compartmentalized.
Another wonderful hit by Ms. Barrett.

I really enjoyed New Year's in Napa by Elisabeth Barrett. I was looking for a holiday story that was only slightly holiday-ish and this novella fit the bill perfectly. It is the second book in Ms. Barrett's West Coast Holiday series and it can be read as a standalone without skipping a beat.
Scientist and researcher Amanda Aligheri is plagued with guilt over an accident that almost cost her sister her life. So Mandy spends every available moment of her free time in her lab, trying to find ways to help her sister and others like her. Mandy is a beautiful woman who leads a very unexciting life. Although she craves adventure, she does not allow herself any pleasure. Two years ago she met the man of her dreams, but she let him go in order to continue researching 24/7.
Liam Flynn is a coding guru who left a very lucrative position to help out with his family's vineyard after his father had an almost fatal heart attack. He enjoys his new, less-stressed lifestyle, but craves to code almost constantly. His ho-hum existence gets a huge lift when Amanda shows up to help their mutual friends plan their wedding, which is being held at his family's vineyard. Liam and Amanda hit it off once again, and the magical week that they spend together between Christmas and New Year's, causes them to make drastic changes in their individual lives in order to be fulfill their New Year's resolutions.
I definitely plan on reading book one from this series and exploring the author's other works. I found Ms. Barrett's writing style to be nicely paced and I really liked how she developed the relationship between the main characters. Overall a solid read.
Here’s another fabulous author on the way to making her own destiny. I read Elisabeth Barrett’s “Star Harbor Series” and totally fell in love with the Grayson brothers. Now she is out with the second book in her West Coast Holiday Series (first being Christmas In Tahoe).
New Year’s In Napa brings Amanda Aligheri to the beautiful wine country of Napa, CA. A biotechnology researcher, she is driven by a past to spend her every waking moment in her Silicon Valley laboratory. But now, she wants to bring a balance to her life and is hoping to make some resolutions for the coming new year. As her friend Annie is getting ready to wed Chase, they plan to meet in Napa to spend some time and do all wedding things. Of course coming to Napa also brings Amanda up close and personal, again with Liam Flynn, the one guy who is more than capable of stealing her heart.
Smart, sexy and beautiful Amanda has been giving Liam Flynn sleepless nights for the past two years, and having her at his doorstep is his one chance to make sure there are more steps coming to make her a permanent fixture in his life. A software engineer by heart, he leaves his chances of making even more money in software, to help his father at the winery, when he suffers a heart attack. Handsome, smart and cool, and he really needs to keep his patience to convince Mandy that commitment can be a wonderful thing.
A sweet and perfect story to read, curled up in my favorite couch with hot chocolate as two beautiful people, try to overcome their insecurities and make a future with each other. No thrills and frills except a charming narration of emotions, love and support that warms my heart!

I was first introduced to Amanda as Ann’s best friend in Christmas in Tahoe. There was just enough of Mandy in that story to spark enough interest for me to want to know more about her, and Elisabeth Barrett did not disappoint!
Two years ago Mandy and Liam shared a searing kiss, and then she quickly ran off to delve into her lab work…nonstop. When she heads to Napa for some relaxation and to meet up with some close friends at Liam’s winery, she has to revisit the emotions she desperately tried to bury a few years back.
I loved, loved, loved this holiday novella! Mandy is fiercely loyal to her work, and Liam is fiercely loyal to his family. Both teach and take away something from the other while sharing some pretty serious, sizzling heat. I adore the setting of this story so much that I found Ms. Barrett beautifully paints the Napa Valley landscape with memorable descriptions and scenes.
New Year’s in Napa can be read as a stand-alone. It’s one of those quick holiday reads that you spend a quiet afternoon curling up with. There’s very little drama and what drama there is isn’t really over the top. It’s a story about learning to live life and embracing love. Such a romantic and delightful holiday read!
Much like the first book in the series, this had the perfect balance in romance and drama.
Liked Mandy and Liam. Loved Mandy’s passion and how much she wanted to change things for the better for other people. It lead to her not considering herself in that equation, and that meant that she pretty much lived to work. It was great that at the start of the book she realized that sometimes you have to be a little selfish and worry about yourself. The rest was about how to balance that with the rest of her life.
As for Liam, I liked that he did pretty much anything for his family, even when it meant to leave a lot of him behind, particularly his passion for computers. However, even in that new circumstance he found a new passion in wine, and it was great that in the end he was able to mix the two.
These two characters were not only about the attraction between them, but also about pushing each other to be the best they could be without losing themselves in the process. Perfect mix.
I don’t know if there will be more to this series, but if there is, I’ll certainly continue to read.
Amanda Aligheri spends too much time working so in an effort to try and get some much needed downtime, she makes a New Year’s resolution to go to Napa and relax. There she finds the sexy Liam Flynn who plans to wine and dine her until she forgets herself. It is exactly the distraction she needs.
Elisabeth Barrett hits on the sweeter side of the Contemporary Romance scale. I’m such a sucker for these holiday themed romances. There’s just something so intriguing to me about putting two characters together and seeing where their relationship takes them. Barrett’s writing and authorial voice fits perfectly for this genre. I found it so easy to get lost in her words and characters.
For a novella, Barrett was able to capture all I love in a Contemporary Romance which I think is a hard to do. Yet I found myself smiling from ear to ear as I read Amanda and Liam’s story.
New Year’s in Napa is a sweet romance between two likable characters. The work contains little or no angst (no jealousy; no love triangle; no grave, drawn-out misunderstandings)—just two mature adults embarking upon a mutually beneficial relationship. Liam and Amanda are intelligent and passionate individuals, who could ultimately make a good match—that is, if career goals and time spent at work don’t get in their way.
Speaking of, instead of just glossing over what each does for a living, the author trusts us with details about Mandy’s research and Liam’s coding. In fact, this in-depth description set New Year’s in Napa apart from most others I’ve read in the romance genre. Plus, I really enjoyed learning more about the winemaking industry.
Barrett’s fiction is the perfect salve for readers who have just finished an angst-ridden, panic-inducing book. It’s something you can move through pretty quickly, and it’s actually quite steamy for those who like to see a physical relationship developed alongside an emotional one.

There are lots of Christmas reads - this however is the first New Years read I have seen in a long time. If you are like me and like to read a holiday romance near the holiday pick this up - something great to read before the New Year or while watching the Rose Bowl Parade!
Mandy is married to her work, and her work as a researcher is important, but she needs to learn balance. Liam enjoys his job with his family's winery but is aching to get back to his love of coding. Together they promise to find balance.
I liked their connection and the steam level was just right. The plot is a rather quick time line as the story takes place in the time between Christmas and New Years. This was an enjoyable read and I could have easily finished this in a few uninterrupted hours. The ending was satisfying and I will gladly read another book in this series if written. (I am hoping Stella gets a book - my heart ached for her at times - and it would give us more time with Liam and Mandy!)
Got a free afternoon left on your holiday vacation - pick this up - you won't be disappointed.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest review.
I enjoyed reading this story for the most part. I have not followed this series, but had no problem catching up to the other characters as this novella stands alone, no cliffhanger. The only reason I would give this 3.5 stars instead of 4 is due to the small slowdowns in the story when it would go into more technical detail on the h or H’s work. It’s like the author did all this research on skin-grafting, wine-making and coding and found she needed to find little pockets throughout the story to poke them in to show what she learned. After the introduction for each, I skipped those parts and moved on. Other than this, I enjoyed the cadence of the story.
Pros: good story, good flow, likeable characters, lots of sizzle, nice “I deserve to be happy” theme, as well as a “stand up for yourself” sub-theme.
Cons: too much repetitive detail on her job and his, and a slight theme of secret-thrill-seeker/turned-on-by-fear-of-discovery going on – which can be a pro or a con depending on your personal preference.

A sweet book about second chance in love and life. The story start with Amanda a guilt-driven scientist without any social life, dedicate her life to help burn victims for a better life. With her friend's wedding around the corner the couple (previous book) forced her a R & R trip to Napa Valley. Guest who co-own a vineyard there, her once rejected beau, Liam. Once a software engineer in a rat-race corporate life, his father heart attack lead him a simpler life in the vineyard. His one regret? leave 'the one' in Tahoe two years ago without a fight. Presented with a second chance, one romantic getaway, he want to show Mandy life outside the lab and embrace it. Little he know the life he now embracing also unfulfilled and Mandy the one encouraging him to get more. Can they both find the balance in life together?
I love the plot, the writing is flowing flawlessly. The main and secondary character is amazing. Good work by the author, recommended.
This is the second book is the West Coast Holiday series. Amanda heads back Napa to find some balance in her life. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately Liam Flynn is there as well. Of course he lives there so it was bound to happen. Liam wants to try again with Amanda. They have a history together and he is still attracted to her. He has one week to see if they have a chance. This 2nd chance at love story is fun and interesting. The characters are interesting. I especially like Liam's sister. I sense her story coming in a future book. Liam and Amanda have to learn what's important in their lives and if they have a chance at working out this time. Quick enjoyable read with a small town feel.
This is the second story in what may be trilogy. I did not read the first book, Christmas in Tahoe, but got the gist of it from this book. This was a nice story but did not blow me away. I want a story that keeps me wondering until the end, but this seemed very predictable. If you are looking for a nice, simple romance, then this book is for you. There is not much conflict and what there was, was again predictable.
I would give this 3.5 stars as I do enjoy Elizabeth Barrett's writing style. I have enjoyed her other stories immensely, so am a little surprised that I did not just love this.

New Year’s in Napa is Elisabeth Barrett’s second book in her West Coast Holiday series. This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Barrett and it definitely won’t be the last. I absolutely loved both Amanda (Mandy) Aligheri and Liam Flynn. Both of these characters had a past that greatly influenced who they were. Mandy was dealing with a tragedy that she’s thrown her life into solving while Liam wants to recapture a life he once knew. I loved walking down the path with these two characters as they learned to deal with their pasts and forge a future for their dreams. Now, I have to go back and read the first book in the series. This is a can’t miss book that I highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this story and it is a great follow-up to Ann and Chase’s story (Christmas in Tahoe). I really enjoyed watching Amanda and Liam fall in love. They had great chemistry and I loved watching both of them grow and chase their dreams. Once again Roxie played a pretty pivotal roll (you know for a character who can’t speak). There’s just something about these books that draws you in and keeps you turning pages and I’m sure this one will be re-read by me for many holidays to come. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I enjoyed this short story, but felt like I was getting information piecemeal. Mandy and Liam knew each other, but I didn't know either of their backstories. While I caught on quickly, I wish that the author hadn't relied so heavily on the reader having read Chase and Annie's book. I wanted to learn more about Liam's family and the winery and find out what is going on with Stella and her ex....but I guess that's the next book.
A sweet, easy and enjoyable read. I loved the author's Star Harbor series...and gave them 4 stars. This book and the first in the series as well just don't reach the standard I came to expect after the Star Harbor series. I do look forward to another book in this series, however, that revolves around Stella Flynn. She seems to need her life to look up and find resolution to her unhappiness.
This was my first read from Barrett. I enjoy romance in any form. This holiday read was one to make me happy. Visiting Napa Valley during the holiday season.
Thanks to NetGalley and the delightful Holiday Read.
I just can't continue. Don't know if I'm not in the mood for it right now or if it's the story but I've had a hard time reading this one, and seeing it's a novella, I should've finished a long time ago.
I love Elizabeth Barrett's writing and books! This was no exception. Mandy and Liam were great together and had off the charts chemistry! I loved their little history and reconnection.
Great love story between Mandy and Liam. I also loved that it took place in Napa, it made me thirsty for some wine...I really need to take a trip there.
