For Cat Nichols, someday was finally here. Going away to college meant a fresh, new start for the girl who lived locked away in a prison of insecurities. She was ready to experience new things and meet new people. But she wasn’t ready for him…
Jace Butler had encountered things no one person should have to endure. Trying to come to terms with his past, while living in the present, was a constant struggle for the man whose demons lie dormant beneath the skin of his rippling body and sexy smile. But when Cat walked into his world, his chance for a better life, came with her…
After finding each other, Cat and Jace realize that both their past and present issues were trying to ruin their chance for a better future. Issues that will have to be dealt with – once and for all – together… or apart.
NOTE TO READERS: This is a NEW ADULT novel, it is written in the first person, and has stronger language than our previous Contemporary Romances. It is the first book in a trilogy. This trilogy was intended to be read in the following order: Someday Girl (Someday Series, Book #1) One Day His (Someday Series, Book #2) Forever Us (Someday Series, Book #3) *Intended for Adults 18+*
NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, heroes who are cinnamon rolls in the streets alpho-holes in the sheets, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.
College? Check, Innocent chick? Check. Emotionally broken hero? Check. Falling crazy in love? Check. See where I'm going? I gotta admit I was hoping for a different scenario (so this one is on me). It wasn't a bad read but I'm a over the same story/different characters. With that said, I'm moving on...
Cat is a sweet girl from LA. Her mother is an actress and a bully. Cat has grown up with only her mother and the hired help as companions. Cat is excited to get out and go to college and have a life of her own without her mother’s craziness.
Jace is just out of the military and has a good job as a bartender with his friend from the service. His life is simple. Work, sleep….. That all changes when Cat walks into the bar and that is the only thing he can think about.
Cat is sweet, kind, innocent and all the things Jace should stay away from. Jace thinks he is bad news for someone as sweet and loving at Cat.
Cat wants Jace and she does not play those stupid games that others do. She just tries to be herself and hopes that is enough.
Jace and Cat figure out that they are meant to be together and they want to be together. Cat’s friends support this decision with a little hesitation after Jace was stupid and hurt Cat’s feelings.
Cat struggles to keep her home life a secret. But she feels free for the first time ever. She does not have to listen to her mother belittle her anymore she can simply hang up the phone or not answer. Cat is happy for the first time ever in her life.
This is book #1 and ends with a small cliffhanger. So onto book #2.
I became a Melanie Shawn fan after reading the "Crossroads Series". I became hooked with anything she writes. When I got the opportunity to read this book before it is released I was over the moon.
Honestly I was expecting the same type of storyline from the "Crossroad Series", which was fine by me. However this book was so different from that, it was so refreshing. This book took me on a roller coaster of emotions. At times I found myself trying to remember "my first" of everything and comparing with Cat's. I loved that Melanie highlighted this vulnerability. It gives the book a realistic and personal vibe. Which in turn made me connect with the book even more.
18 year old Cat is the daughter of a beloved Hollywood actress. Little do people know, her mom has been verbally and mentally abusive to her for years. She is off to college to start her life and her new found freedom. Cat has a mental list of life experience's she wants to try. Which I found was quite charming, funny and sad at the same time. Sad because she has missed out on so much in life.
Jace is an ex-Marine who works as a bartender at this friends bar. He comes from a troubled past. Poor Jace has had to endure horrible foster parents who have abused him physically, emotionally and mentally. To add more pain and suffering he now suffers from PTSD. Despite the fact he has a horrible past, he's the sweetest man a girl could want. He made my heart swoon!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance/chick lit books. This book had me laughing, face palming, groaning, eye rolling, sad and swooning. I loved every minute of it. Great job Melanie Shawn, I think this is the best book you've written by far. I can't wait to read the next book. October can't come soon enough.
This book has everything you’re looking for in a New Adult novel. A young woman out on her own, a new group of friends who support her and her decisions and a military hottie who only has eyes for her. I think the author did a great job drawing the reader into Cat and Jace’s world. I was vested immediately in their story and found it difficult to put down. You were able to feel a connnection between the two on their first meeting. Despite being sheltered most of her life Cat was able to find a group of friends who excepted her. Quirks and all. She was able to let her guard down and find her own voice. Especially with Jace. And then there’s Jace. He’s a resident good guy. His upbringing causes him to defend and protect the ones who can’t protect themselves. Too bad he forgets this a little. Thank goodness he has the help from Cat’s friends to put him back in line. And now I wait on pins and needles until book 2.
Quick, easy read. I didn't feel this book brought anything new to the New Adult genre, but I still enjoyed it. I liked Cat-she seemed normal (even though at times her refusal to accept what people told her was annoying...she had no trouble accepting what he mom said about her!). Overall, a good book. I am curious as to where the rest of the series goes.
This book is part one of the story of Cat and Jace and I can't wait to see what comes next! If you are told often enough that you not good enough, not pretty enough, eventually you'll believe it. Add to that growing up in the shadow of a movie star and it's easy to see how Cat lacks self confidence. She's been exposed to so little and led a very sheltered life. Jace on the other hand, has been exposed to more than anyone ever should have to be. He grew up being tossed around the foster care system with no stability and little to no control over the path his life was on. He then sought out the clear cut structure and family of the marines. Through his service he had even more traumatizing experiences that only a soldier knows of. When the two meet it's love at first sight, even if it takes a while for them to admit it. Their life experiences couldn't be more different yet they couldn't be more right for each other. She calms him and gives him peace while he helps her out of her shell and gives her the confidence and strength she needs. Together they'll face challenges and struggles, but will they make it through? As per usual, Melanie Shawn will hook you and keep you coming back for more. Looking forward to the continuation of Cat and Jace. Go get this book now and see what I mean!
This is a new genre for me and I actually was not too sure I would like it. I was pleasantly surprised. The angst of college life and first love is but a distant memory for me but I found the story to be captivating and heartwarming. Cat is on her own for the first time in her life and her self confidence is undermined by "scripts" running through her mind. Jace battles his own past and tries to fight his attraction to Cat but he finds that attraction hard to ignore. Their budding relationship is the basis for this book and I am looking forward to book two in the series to see how their relationship progresses.
This is my review of the first three books in Melanie Shawn’s Someday Series. Since the first two books in the series end in cliffhangers before you can get to our hero Jace’s and heroine Cat’s happily ever after, they cannot really be read as standalones. Which is probably why they are available as a package. Did the authors feel their target audience would be too intimidated to purchase the story if they actually released it as one book of 1,000 pages rather than the normal 300 pages for this genre? I get the sense that this book is aimed not only at the primarily female audience all modern romance genre books are targeting but at the youngest adult demographic among them as it focuses on the lives of primarily Cat, but also her three college roommates, all college freshman. Being not only not female but also having college aged grandchildren I obviously don’t fit the target demographic and my opinions therefore may be very different from those of the demographic. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the story because I did. I’m saying some of the issues I had with it might be no issue it all with most readers. I loved all the characters in this story. Catherine (Cat) was a beautiful soul. Her roommates/BFFs were also wonderful and fun. Jace was a really good guy I could pull for. In fact all the good characters in this book were wonderfully wonderful and the evil characters were wonderfully evil. But beyond Cat, Jace and Natalya and surprisingly Annabelle they were all pretty much one dimensional without any real depth. While I ached and cheered for Cat, Natalya was truly the most complex, compelling character in the book. Given the toxic environment Cat grew up in with her horrible, verbally and emotionally abusive mother and her minion/agent Jerry, and the fact that she wasn’t allowed to socialize with anyone her own age for the first eighteen years of her life, it was just implausible that she would be capable of functioning on a college campus or just about any social situation without first receiving years of intense therapy. It’s interesting that while it’s suggested that Jace will seek more therapy to overcome his PTSD, it’s never suggested that Cat might benefit from therapy for her years of abuse. Nope, all Cat needed was Jace’s love and the love and support of her new BFFs and she’s good. I was also left to ask myself how Cat was allowed with her evil and controlling mother’s tacit approval (she was paying her tuition, room and board after all) to go away to college when she hadn’t even been allowed a prior social life? And I also had to wonder why once Cat reached 18 she didn’t just walk away from her mother and find a way to support herself rather than continue to be forced to jump through hoops and do her mother’s bidding and continue to be subject to her abuse? We’re told her mother is sick, possibly bi-polar, but she never really shows a good side. Even in her calmer, less abusive moments she’s still slinging cutting, cruel remarks at Cat. And she seems totally capable of putting on a good face for the public. She doesn't show what a bitch she is when she's on a movie set or making public appearances. IMH non medical opinion, she’s not sick unless being just plain evil is a sickness. She’s just an evil, mean bully. There’s Cat’s college roommates and new best friends, the twins Sandy and Brandy and Evelyn. Could there possible be three more wonderfully accepting, supportive and protective young women and thank God they all ended up as poor adorkable Cat’s roommates. Again, I enjoyed these characters, but the plausibility that they could exist and end up together as dorm mates for Cat really stretches the believability meter even for this genre. One other minor thing in the story that sort of bothered me was the girls regular visits to the Plaza Pub where Jace tended bar, owned by his BFF Elijah. Okay, I’m not so old that I dont realize an awful lot of under aged drinking occurs on college campuses. Hell it happens in high school. I think it’s a ridiculous irony that unlike when I was 18 years old, 18 year olds are considered legal adults in every respect except when it comes to purchasing alcohol. But this idea that because Elijah was like an older brother to the twins he allowed them to be served at his bar (even if it’s only wine coolers like they’re not really alcohol) just didn’t wash. Its not like if the cops showed up they’d also turn a blind eye to him serving minors because they were like little sisters to him. Can you say “bye-bye liquor license?” What’s even more interesting if you read the next book in the series Chasing Perfect is the idea that the twins drink at all considering what we learn about their home life. **** Spoiler Alert**** While on one hand it was delightful to see Angelica and Jerry get their comeuppance at the end of the story, that’s all it really was. Neither was actually punished for their sins/crimes. They violated federal privacy laws in obtaining information on both Jace and Natalya. They manipulated the law in regard to Gavin. They were culpable in one character’s death. But all Angelica had to do was swallow some pride, use her influence and redistribute a little of her vast wealth and she was allowed to continue living her life as a Hollywood icon. Maybe Jerry lost his job but it would have been more satisfying for this reader if they’d both been arrested and charged for their crimes and been publicly exposed for the monsters they were. In the least I would have loved to see Jace break scumball Jerry’s jaw. As far as justice goes there was that coffee shop incident where a potentially violent sexual predator was allowed to slink away after Jace shows up to rescue Cat. Shouldn’t she have filed a complaint report with the police and had him arrested? What happens to the next young woman who doesn't have a Jace to rescue her? And lastly I’m not sure how a character that had Cat’s limited life experiences was so mature beyond her years instead of less, but even given that, she was still only 18 years old and halfway through her freshman year of college. I guess given their great love and devotion for one another, the fact that they were soulmates, it had to have this fairytale ending, but for this old man 18 seems awfully young. So in conclusion as much as I enjoyed the characters and the conflict between Cat and her mother brought a level of tension and suspense not often found in a romance novel, because of the reasons I’ve already stated, I have trouble giving this story more than 2.5 stars.
Cat Nichols, daughter of a famous actress, finally gets her escape to university. Free from the emotional blackmail and abuse of her mother, Cat meets a group of friends that openly accept her.
She also meets Jace, a barman who's hiding a troubled past and who wants to escape it all. When he sees Cat, he's instantly drawn into her, but knows he is the last thing she needs and to stay away. But neither can deny the attraction they have, and when the finally get to know each other, demons from the past threaten to ruin everything they've worked for.
This is your typical straight-forward college romance novel:
Innocent, gorgeous girl? Yup Hot, sexy, troubled guy? Yup Troubled past for both? Yeah Bitch character that tries to cause trouble? Yes Instant deep love? Mmhmm
It's a fairly average read. The writing is mediocre and the whole story is incredibly predictable with the same story line as every other new-adult romance novel out there.
Cat: She was sweet and yet held her own very well. She had grown up suffering from the abusive words of her mother and as a result, had incredibly low self-esteem and was unaware of her beauty. But of course, really she was absolutely stunning and all the guys wanted her. Including the one bad boy everyone loved.
Jace: He was a bit boring and so weak. He'd been in the war and so suffered from PTS etc. But as soon as a manipulative bitch walks into his life, he IMMEDIATELY choose to cut Cat off to take care of her. And it took him ages to listen to his real friends to see how wrong what he was doing was.
Romance: Mediocre is the only word for their romance. Both fall victim to instant love so that's the first negative. Then it all sort of whirlwinds at such a fast pace, which I find hard to believe as Cat was completely inexperienced and had some doubts. Meanwhile, Jace who doesn't do relationships, instantly changes his ways for Cat. It's just all too perfect. Even the little bit of drama that occurs, there's no suffering! Cat just accepts it and moves on; there's no angst or heartbreak as such. It just felt grey.
Overall:
This is a fairly light read, there isn't too much drama but easy enough to get through. Probably best to read in between heavier stories. All in all, a cute fast read!
Dear baby unicorns and four leaf gold clovers everywhere, please make this shit stop!!! Three books? OMG I think I would come nearer surviving a zombie apocalypse than staying awake through three books like this.
"Someday Girl"... Well, yeah, I kept thinking someday we might actually get to a plot or something actually f'ing happening. Decided just to give up @39%:(
What Went Wrong?
Well, it be easier to explain what went right - pretty much nothing- but I'll try.
The writing is overthought, repetitive, woe is me, and s-l-o-w.
The plot... Well, there's not one anywhere visible by 40%.
The characters are irritating. Paragraphs are spent with the male MC internally detailing what he IS NOT going to do and then suddenly he just up and does the exact opposite in the actual scene.
The MCs first interaction is weird and awkward to say the least. I mean the interaction was literally 'hey' to her doe eyed and speechless... till she busts out with hey I'm a 'dork' and him saying 'nah, you're adorable.' That's it; Barely what would be considered two awkward sentences spoken between them. It's a bit much, or rather little, for the next several chapters to be about this chick using visions of him as her muse for strength -and- him to have this magical self-reflection about how life will never be the same after meeting her and never being able to have her because he's so tainted.
I get it... I really do! These are two people f'd up by horrible, torturous childhoods; it's Mommy Dearest survivor meets PTSD bartender. You, author, have an interesting premise. So expound... Tell me details..tell my how...tell me why... tell me an effing story! But, it's BORING as hell and makes me lose all interest when the author puts on repeat every other sentence that Cat is awkward, shy, innocent, sheltered, and emotionally abused and Jace is f'd up and would be no good for her. Move on! Build the story. Grow the characters!
Something, anything should be happening by 40% in the book. Yet, the characters have had two very brief encounters and are in the middle of their first date by 40%... Nothing else!?!? Basically, the first 40% is character building (and even that is mostly the same info over and over) surrounded by mundane shopping, school, and eating.
Bottom Line
I'd recommend to insomniacs and readers that find wallpaper drying fascinating. Otherwise, skip it & save yourself some yawns and wasted time.
What an incredibly powerful, beautiful story that touched my emotions on all levels. Yes, it is different from the once Melanie Shawn has written before, but no less vivid or fierce. Cat is such a fun and witty character. Even though, or maybe because, she sees herself as ugly and socially awkward, she won my heart from the page one. I adore the 'list' she had in her head, and her pi poems. Jace is an ex-marine, very task oriented, 'here and now' type of person. Until he meets Cat, who wins his heart and mind with the first look. Both Cat and Jace have had a turbulent, abusive childhood in their own way. They had to learn to fend for themselves early on. They both have wounds that will take time to heal, false truths that will take time to unlearn. The way they take down the protective layers of their hearts and past, revealing the hurt and abuse themselves faced, you can feel their pain, the hurt they carry inside. Together they are so sweet and adorable, it took my breath away. The development of their feelings and relationship, how the trust is built between them, is intense and raw. When Jace's past came to cause problems in the present, it was heartbreaking. How Natalya and Cat's mom mirror each other, was eerie, suddenly making it seem that, what Cat and Jace had to deal with in the past, wasn't so different at all. Melanie Shawn writes some of the best 'girlfriends' I've read, and they deliver here as well. The Andy girls and Evelyn are loving, caring, protective, and how they introduce life to Cat is endearing. And Annabel is my new hero!! Charismatic cast of characters all around in the story, well, except Natalya, who doesn't get any sympathy points from me, either. Jace and Cat's story will continue in the future books, but the ending was satisfactory for this part of the story, where their relationship stands now. The story is told in first person, by both Cat's and Jace's point of view. Don't shy away from the book because it is in the New Adult genre, I'm glad I didn't. When a story has you smiling, laughing out loud, in tears, and hurting from the pain the characters feel, I wish I had more than five spoons to give ~ this powerful story just set the bar very high!
I received a copy of this book from the author for honest and fair review.
I am not a big fan of young adult stories or books written in first person. Having said that, I do read a handful of authors who have written this genre in first person and have enjoyed them. Did I say ‘a handful’ of authors, and I meant literally…. and did I also mention that I am not a fan of cliff hangers and stories going into 2nd and 3rd books…well then!
But the duo sisters of Melanie and Shawna make this work. They made me take back all my inhibitions of reading this new genre and Someday Girl, first in their new young adult series, Someday Series, is much more than just young love, strong language or raging hormones.
Cat Nichols is headed to college. New life. New friends. New home. A life she can have, far away from loneliness and insecurities. Open skies, breathing the air of freedom, all far away from the shadows of gossip and masks where she can be a normal young adult. She may be shy, but she’s got a heart of gold and opens it to the stirrings of first love and its flavor.
Jace Butler comes back from the land of wars and for a young age, has demons that dog his life. A chance meeting with Cat, stirs emotions and feelings long buried and as he falls in love with her, he realizes that life is worth living for something as beautiful as Cat and her love. But the past seems to have a relentless hold on his present and his future looks uncertain.
This is just the beginning of a journey that takes Jace and Cat on its winding path, as they discover the reality of life. Experiences and pain will make them strong. Family and friends will have them question loyalty and support. Society and the world may drive them apart, before they can come together. Can they weather the storms of life as they grow and mature in feelings, and keep that tenacious hold on love and trust, is what the Someday Series is all about.
It’s charming, it’s real, it’s crisp, it’s youthful and it can very well be my almost young adult daughter heading into her story of life.
Don’t miss the second and third, One Day His (October 2014) and Forever Us (November 2014) respectively, if you want to know whether Jace and Cat got their HEA.
Someday Girl started off and I was a little confused as to why Cat was like she was. The first few pages I just thought I don't know if this will be the book for me. Then you quickly find out more about her and everything comes together. Then I loved it. I loved Cat and Jace and they are like perfect for each other.
Cat does not have many real life experiences. In fact I am surprised she was even aloud to go off to college by herself. From everything you learn about her past, about her mom, it just doesn't seem like she would have consented to that. Sure she is an adult, but her mom is pretty messed up. You can't help but feel for Cat, but at the same time you are just so happy for her starting her life. She doesn't really seem to have a lot of issues which surprised me. She has a good head on her shoulders and is just so sweet! I loved her.
Jace doesn't have a very good past either and he tries to stay away from Cat. He doesn't want to drag her into his darkness, but then again he can't stay away. From the moment they saw each other both of them were drawn to the other. It was so much fun to watch! Jace is a great guy, super protective of Cat and really just what she needs. And she is just what he needs to help him deal with some issues. It was great.
In this book we have Jace learning to face some of his past and moving on from it. He does make some mistakes, but you can just see how much he cares and Cat is not someone to hold a grudge and be cruel just because. I started getting to the end of the book and just thought no! I am not ready for this to be over yet! I don't want to say goodbye to these characters yet. Thankfully I have two more books to read! The next one we will probably see Cat try and overcome her past and then happily ever after eventually. I cannot wait!
Oh. God. Jace and Cat are going to be my ultimate undoing!! For once in my life, I'm happy it ended in a cliffhanger. That means there is more to come and I can't wait to get my hand on the next two books! Oh man this book just had it all! Drama, sex, tenderness, laughs and so much more. Cat and her thoughts had me laughing so much and she is so easy to relate to! This book is for the girls who have social anxiety and want to climb out of that shell they'be been living in. Cat's character development is amazing to witness although it's not all there considering her story isn't done yet! I also am a big fun of her morals. Considering how she has been treated by her mother in the past, she refuses to judge a person by their exterior and that scored her massive glowing points in my heart. Her first encounter with Jace was so adorable and for the first time I'm glad this book is told in both of their POV's! And then there's Jace.... oh Jace! You bet I just met my next book boyfriend! I felt like a school girl with a crush every time his name popped up! I usually skim over sexual scenes in romance novels but I can admit, that wasn't the case here. I wanted to cherish and savor every word and thought engraved into these pages. My heart is so sore from the ride they just took me on. I'm so going to finish this series as soon as I am able!
Someday Girl is written by the sister team of Melanie Shawn. This book is their first venture into the YA genre and is the introduction of a trilogy about Cat and Jace. Cat is the daughter of a Hollywood A-level star who makes Mommy Dearest look normal. She is attending a college away from home, which is the first time she is on her own and is able to interact with other people. She was educated by tutors instead of attending a school. Cat is assigned to a room with the Andy girls, twin sisters Sandy and Brandy, and their friend Evelyn. Through them she meets Jace a bartender at a local bar. Jace grew up in the foster systems, mainly in horrible homes.
This introductory story lays the ground work for the relationship between Cat and Jace. Cat has led a very sheltered life seldom being out in the public. Jace is Cat’s first boyfriend and she experiences a myriad of emotions as she learns how to travel the ins and outs of a relationship that has a few twists and turns.
I enjoyed Someday Girl. It allowed me to visual the lives of Cat and Jace, their growth in maturity, feelings toward one another and of their relationship. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next installment, One Day His.
This book is a complete win by the writing duo, Melanie Shawn. Cat is a college freshman, having just left the isolation of growing up with a mentally unstable, movie star for a mother. Jace is a former Marine, with demons as the result of a childhood spent in foster care and his time in the service. Both characters are well developed and likable from the beginning. You can't help but root for Cat and Jace, as they navigate the uncharted territory of first love and complex relationships. Neither Cat nor Jace have had significant experience in loving and being loved. This is the first of a series of three books, with the next two scheduled to be released last this year. I typically do not appreciate books that end in a cliffhanger. As a reader, I often feel robbed of the resolution for which I am looking. In this book, though, it is very well done. I can't wait to read the next book (scheduled for release Oct 2014) but don't feel like I was robbed of a satisfactory conclusion to this portion of the story. I love the authors' Crossroad series and fans of the authors won't be disappointed by this book. Those who enjoy New Adult will also thoroughly enjoy it. I highly recommend!
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. Cat is leaving home to attend college, the first time she has ever led a "normal" life. She is the daughter of a famous movie star who was home schooled and subjected constantly to her mother's wild mood swings, which usually meant her mother was berating and criticizing her constantly about her looks, her intelligence and everything else. Cat, warned never to discuss her mother in public, has become withdrawn and distant and keeping to herself.
But, then, she goes to the local bar one night with her new roommates and she sees bartender Jace. Instant mutual attraction. But Jace has his own secrets (life in the foster system and then military service PTSD) and its a bumpy road for the two of them.
Likes: Set in Arcata, California, just ninety miles south of where I live so I know a lot of the places they discuss.
Dislikes: When Jace doesn't grow a pair and tell Cat all about his "friend" so she's not heartbroken. He does eventually but he should have immediately.
Really dislike: There is a book #2. Apparently Jace and Cat are going to go and visit Mom. I can imagine all the angst that will entail.
Omg!!! Melanie and Shawna have done it again with Someday girl.. I totally love this book.. In this beautifully written story of two lost souls, we meet Jace, an ex marine.. Who's suffering PTSD and a painful past, who thinks he's to broken to be loved.. Add to that, a vindictive, hateful "friend", that uses her past to control him... And there's Cat, a beautiful woman.. With a painful past herself... Brought up by a controlling, nasty mother that's suffering from a mental illness... Cat is made to feel worthless.. Until she meets Jace, along the way they try to get past their demons and they fall in love.. But it's never that simple, people from both their pasts, threaten their future... Such an amazing read, that had me laughing, crying, shouting, smiling and at times, left me with my mouth hanging open...I cannot recommend this first book, in this series highly enough... This is a must read and I can't wait for the next book..
Wow this book was incredible. It grabbed my attention from the first chapter and it just kept getting better and better. The story of Cat and Jace was beautifully written. Cat was a very strong woman who had endured a very traumatic childhood. Jace was a very strong and sexy man who will definitely be on the top of my list of book boyfriends. They had some amazing friends who helped them throughout the book. Each one of those friends being memorable. This book had me laughing out loud one moment, crying the next and it even had me frustrated at others. I would highly recommend that you read this book because it will not disappoint you. I am counting the days until the next book in the series is released. I can't wait to read more about Cat and Jace's journey to their forever. I am sure that it will be a bumpy ride but more than worth the read.
** I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest and fair review **
This was such an amazing book! A beautiful story about Jace & Cat. I loved reading this book from both their perspectives, and they were each beautifully written. Cat is a quiet shy girl, still dealing with the effects of her celebrity mother's verbal and emotional taunts. Jace is an ex-marine working as a bartender. I loved the way they fell for each other, even with obstacles and intrusions. I really hated that Jace allowed himself to be controlled by this woman Natalya, a redhead he was with in foster care who he protected. But I was so happy when it made him realize just how much he loved Cat and needed to be with her. Warning, it does end in a cliffhanger, but we only have to wait till October for the next book! I am so happy I read this book, and I look forward to more of Melanie Shawn's amazing work!
Someday Girl, new adult genre, is the first book in a new series by the prolific duo of Melanie Shawn. Told from the two perspectives of the main characters, Cat and Jace, as they navigated their relationship. From the beginning I fell for Cat, the female character in this book, with her lists and her dorkiness. The male character, Jace, was very likable. The comedic aspect of the dialogue captured my attention from the start and although I am not regular reader of new adult fiction I still able to relate to characters, the music they liked, their friendships college life. I am looking forward to the next installment.
I actually quite enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and had good flow, however there wasn't anything original about the story. I did like the characters, especially the Andy twins and Evelyn, cat was an okay character I thought she was really passive and didn't have a whole lot of personality, especially when it came to her mother, and even other disagreements. Jace was the same for me, though he was more of a dimensional character he fell pretty flat. Though saying that I loved their chemistry and dynamics.
This may be a story type I have read before but Cat and Jase made this story so different than any other I have read. I loved how Cat didn't let her past make her overreact to every difficulty in life and relationship. She was more mature and understanding than I would have probably been at 18. I want the rest of their story! I am afraid of what will come next, but very confident in Jase and Cat to work through it.
Someday Girl by Melanie Shawn grabs you right from the start. Edgy writing with characters that are a stand out from start to finish. With character scenes that have you torn one minute and elated the next. Jace and Cat will steal your heart and have you jumping for joy with their emotional, heartfelt story. A great start to the series that has the reader wondering what is next for Jace and Cat in the next book in the Someday series. *ARC received from the Author for an honest review
This book was an excellent read about a "adorkable" girl who finally gets her chance to break away from her life and start a new one. What she doesn't know is that her world is going to be shaken up! Add some quirky, hilarious new friends and one smoldering hot ex-marine with a past he is trying to break free of as well, makes the reader fly through the pages. Being written in first-person gives the reader a unique inside view of the way "first love" can be so confusingly real.
