Live Truthfully. This was the mantra eighteen-year-old Maddie Crane's mother lived by until the day she died. Maddie though she'd known everything about her late mother, but at the funeral service, a mysterious woman claiming to be her maternal grandmother hands her an envelope containing information that contradicts everything Maddie knew about her mother. Hurt, confused, and in need of answers, Maddie and her two best friends head to California to confront this supposed grandmother, but quickly learn the truth comes with complications.

I really liked the main character Maddie in this novel, because the author made it easy to put yourself in her shoes, conveying how she feels. She is also relatable and has a good sense of humor. (I think her friend Erin was my favorite character.) I don’t want to give any spoilers from this book, but I’ll just say sometimes you can learn an entirely different side to a person’s life, only after they’ve passed away. And sometimes when you lose someone, it brings new people into your life. I would definitely read more from this talented author!
