Kiernan Parks settled all the scores. He finished what he set out to do and then . . . he left.
He left Jade. Heartbroken and weary. Existing one day to the next. One breath after another. The only way she knew how to move forward, forever missing a piece of her heart. Until an unexpected surprise throws her volatile life into upheaval, once more.
He left Caulder. Guilt-ridden and grieving. Fighting to hold it all together. Not just for himself, but for the people he cares about. Staggering under the weight of his obligations.
I was really excited to read this book after I read the first book, and then especially after I read the novella that is the first book told from one of the main guys point of views! I wasn't 100% sure how the author was going to do this book after the events of the first book, but I did have a few ideas! I can say that some of my ideas happened in this book lol! Quite a few things happened that I wasn't expecting though! The plot was amazing! It was really emotional, and I do have to admit that I cried right at the beginning and then a few times more as the plot developed! The plot showed the characters after the emotional events of the first book and how they were coping with their loss! The author did a brilliant job of continuing the plot! I couldn't put this book down when I started it and I finished it in a few sittings as well! The plot was beautiful, emotional and had a strong message! The ending was also bigger than I thought it was going to be, which I loved! The characters were again amazing! Jade was again the main female character and my heart again went out to her in this book! Things were starting to look up for her with her family at the end of the last book, but in this book everything just got ten times worse for her! She went back to doubting everything about herself and feeling like she didn't belong! It was again up to her love interest to show her that she was worth everything! Jade was still such a strong character though! She had been through a lot, but she still picked herself up and kept going! She went through even more in this book, and I could see how it was becoming too much for her! She still picked herself up and continued on, which was admirable! Caulder was the main guy character in this book, which makes a change from the first book! I also loved getting to go inside Caulder's head in the novella in this series! I loved Caulder more in this book than what I did the first book! He was such a strong character and he held it all together when Jade was the one who was falling apart, and vice versa! He was also hot and I loved that he was always there for Jade! It told me a lot about the kind of guy he was! I could also see that he had strong feelings for Jade, and that he would do anything for her and keep her safe! I just loved him! I was kinda expecting this book to be written from both Jade and Caulder's point of views, but I wasn't sure if it was going to be, so I was really happy when a few chapters were written from Caulder's point of view! It really helped me connect more with the two characters! I'm not sure if there's going to be another book in the series! After the ending of this book, I think there could be a novella or something to finish up Jade and Caulder's story more! I've loved this series though and I'm sad that it's over if this is the last book! I can't wait to read more books from this author though! The cover for this book suits it perfectly! It really sums up all the emotion in the plot! I also love how well it suits the cover for the first book and the novella! Big thank you to Jamie for an ARC of Pieces of my Heart and for having me on her Blog Tour!
I'm pretty sure Jamie Canosa is trying to kill me.
First, there was Falling to Pieces, which was AMAZING, but left me...
And then there was Angel, which was equally AMAZING, but also equally heart shattering.
And then... Pieces of My Heart. Kiernan's funeral in the prologue made me cry (again). And then there were these other beautiful moments interspersed throughout that made me want to cry. And then... and THEN... AND THEN THERE WAS THE ENDING. Holy Hades, I swear the beginning of the epilogue gave me a FREAKING HEART ATTACK. I'm sure you know the part, when Cal is all like: and I'm just like:
But I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this series, so it's worth it.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
The ending of this definitely leaves you wanting. It wasn't necessarily a bad ending, but it wasn't exactly the happy ending I wanted. With all the bad stuff that happens to Jade throughout the book...why couldn't she just have had a happy ending? There was a note of hope in the ending though, which makes you believe that things are only going to be better for Jade from here on out. Which is good. And she has Cal. So I can't really complain.
The characters in this book are the kind that won't let you forget about them. I may have given the book 3 stars, but Jade and Cal get 5. I won't forget them anytime soon.
It was hard not to see Caulder as this pedestal, this stand, holding everyone else up. A slab of solid granite without feelings or emotions. But that wasn't true. He wasn't some hunk of rock, no matter how much he pretended to be. He was a man. A man suffering every bit as much as the rest of us. A man struggling to support everyone around him, while he received little in return. An exhausted, heartbroken, weary man who lent all of his strength to the people he cared about, saving none of it for himself. And it was killing him.
Wow, the Pieces trilogy seriously took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Lots of tissues were needed. Rocking yourself to stay in one piece was needed. I've felt emotions before for characters, but never to this power. The characters touched me in a way never felt before. The author is extremely talented and I look forward to reading more of her books.
This was a beautifully heartbreaking story of a girl and family, blood or otherwise. This author told this story so beautifully that it was ups, downs and all in between that gave you the feels! This was my first experience with this author but definitely will not be my last!
The story was enjoyable without being outstanding in any way. Predictable but nicely written. I do have issue with a story NEEDING the epilogue to finish it. An epilogue should be a glimpse into the future. A bonus to the story. It should be optional reading. If you did choose not to read this epilogue you'd be left with a totally unfinished story.
Even though it’s been awhile since I read the first book, emotional swelled up at soon as I started reading the first page. All the moments from the first book kept running through my mind and they still cut deep. I knew from the first chapter that I was going to be an emotional mess by the end of the book. I was not disappointed and looked a wreck by the end. Jamie Canosa writes a powerful story that packs an emotional punch.
So every now and then I read a book that just blows me away and Pieces of my Heart is one of those books. I don’t think any other book has made me feel like this one has. This series is beautiful and if you haven’t read the first in the series I recommend you start it. But beware you will need to have tissues and something cuddly to hold…like a cat or stuffed animal….I have a wolf. I’m pretty sure after reading this book I looked a hot mess, no I know I looked awful. I cried all over myself and if I wasn’t reading it in the early morning I would have screamed a little. This just wasn’t a sad story though; it was about trying to pick yourself up and realizing that you just might need help. The characters in the story learned a lot about themselves throughout the story and I don’t think they knew they had the strength to pick themselves up.
I don’t really want to spoil anything about the first book, so I’m going to try and tread lightly on what I say. Jade also called Angel by Caulder is falling apart and doesn’t know if she can pick up the pieces. She is trying but she doesn’t know how much longer she can go on like this. As soon as she starts showing a semblance of life, someone enters her life that she never expected to see. This starts another downward spiral that Jade might not make it back from.
Caulder is keeping everything bottled up inside and trying to be strong for everyone, but it is killing him. His grades aren’t what they should be and he hasn’t really been doing anything. He can never forget Jade though. He wants to be there for her and for her to want him there. He knows he shouldn’t care about her the way he does, but there is just something about her. Kiernan broke both of their hearts into little pieces. I loved Caulder in this book and I hate to say it but he may have stolen my heart more than Kiernan did. He was so emotional in this book when he was so hard in the first. Caulder is more than just a pretty face and body.
What happens when you put two people together that have broken hearts? Maybe they just might make a whole.
Overall: Piece of my Heart will always be a part of my heart and I will always remember it. I plan to read it again and again. This book may be dark and gloomy most of the time but it’s inspirational as well. This is a must read of 2014!!!
Honestly, when I heard that there will be a second book in the Pieces series I was a little skeptical. I was afraid that Jade’s life will become more complicated and way to unbearable.
NOTE: If you haven’t read Falling to Pieces, you should be warned that I will inevitable have a few spoilers from the book.
In Falling to Pieces, Jade’s life is turned upside down, she is broken and alone. Kiernan is the only one who tries to fix her and he succeeds. However, after all the struggles and after she falls in love with him, Kiernan dies. That book did not have a 100% happy ending, not in the traditional way. She lost the love of her life, yes, but she got back her mother, she was more confident and things were looking good to her.
Nine months later and Jade still misses Kiernan, but at least her mother is better, she has a part-time job and things seem to move towards better, right? Wrong. Jade’s life dives deeper into darkness and things start to go south the moment her father returns.
Pieces Of My Heart was frustrating, heart-breaking and beautiful at the same time.
Why was it frustrating? Because of Jade, because after all that time in which Kiernan tried to make her whole, after she started to visibly be confident people around her broke her again. Every single person around her made her feel like nothing and if it weren’t for Caulder maybe she would have gave up.
But most of all I enjoyed the dynamic between the two characters, how they lowered their walls in front of the other and how they trusted each other until the point they accepted help.
Pieces Of My Heart was a beautiful story about two people in pain, who found comfort in the other, a tragic tale that slowly turned into a love story.
**WARNING: This review contains spoilers for book 1: Falling to Pieces and book 1.5: Angel**
I was devastated. Absolutely devastated after Falling to Pieces. Even though I knew that Kiernan was going to die, I was still shattered. By his death. By the loss. By Jade walking away from Caulder.
I was dying to get my hands on this book. I knew that, while Jade and Kiernan were great together, she needed Caulder in a way she couldn't comprehend. After reading Angel I knew how much he needed her too. I needed to know that they were both going to be okay. I needed to know that they would be there for one another.
Pieces of My Heart took me on a pretty painful journey of love, forgiveness, and finding yourself. Jade was completely heartbreaking for most of the story. As much as I had felt that she had healed in FtP she reverted right back into her self deprecation and began questioning everything in her life again. It was SO SO hard to witness. Caulder was just as devastating. He was trying too hard to be strong for everyone else and letting little of his own pain be felt.
Watching them slowly, and painfully, find the pieces of themselves that were strewn about and damaged, repair them, both for themselves and each other, then put them back together was amazing. Amazing in a way that both ripped my heart out and healed it at the same time.
I honestly can not recommend this book, series, and author enough. If you haven't read anything be her, and enjoy the devastating process of losing everything and in the end finding yourself, I highly recommend picking up this series.
This series has been one of the most emotional series that I have ever read. It has made me ugly cry more than once, but I can't get enough of it. I love nothing more than to be emotionally destroyed by a good book, but Jamie takes it to a whole new level with this one. I love Cal and Jade as characters, and I loved watching them help each other heal and move forward into the future. I have been emotionally invested in these characters from the beginning, so I had high expectations going into this one, and Jamie didn't disappoint. It has everything you need in a good story - engaging characters, drama, angst, romance, a little laughter, and plenty of heart. There isn't anything that I would have changed. I would have liked to maybe see a little further into the Cal and Jade's future at the end, but overall I'm very satisfied with this final installment.
You definitely need to read the first novel, and I would also recommend reading Cal's novella, before picking this one up. I also recommend that you don't read it in public (unless you are cool with public displays of emotion) and that you keep tissues handy, because there is no way you are making it through this one without tears. This is a beautifully written series.
**Note: I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Did you just finish Book 1 (Falling to Pieces)? Have you recovered yet? It has been months for me but as soon as I began this book the wounds were opened up fresh and the tears began to fall.
I'm not even sure I wanted to know where the story went from it's ending in book 1. Jamie Canosa pulls no punches and if she has a powerful, heart-breaking story ready to tell, apparently she does it. Ah-Maze-Ing!
So Jade is starting to doubt herself now that Kiernan is no longer in the picture. She had come so far, but loss and sadness take over and old habits die hard. Kiernan's absence however paves the way for Caulder to become a crutch for her to get back on her feet and on the way to becoming confident in herself.
Please be ready with tissues and comfort food because you will need it.
Welcome to cryfest 2015. My name is Sympathy, and I’ll be your host for the festival.
Pieces of my Heart is an emotional story that continues the Pieces series (and the book that made me weep like a little baby, Falling to Pieces). I had only just finished reading the prologue and I already found myself crying. It wasn’t as bad as it was when I finished reading Falling to Pieces, but it definitely showed me that this was not going to be good on my emotional sanity. It is a wonderfully amazing story that gripped my heart and wrenched it every which way. Enough so that it got me crying multiple times throughout it... (Read more via website)
My Thoughts: After reading book one, Falling to Pieces, I was a bit worried about reading Pieces of my Heart...and with good reason. WOW! Another tear-jerker from Jamie. Caulder, my new favorite character in a book, is amazing. He is strong and care and perfect for Jade. Just what she needs. The story MUST be read with a box of kleenex though, so beware. At one point I thought something HORRIBLE had happened to...??? Yeah, I was VERY anger. I cursed Jamie for yet another tear-jerker...thankfully I was wrong :) As far as what happens to Jade's mother... Sadly, I didn't shed a tear. This is a wonderful story by an wonderful author and I highly recommend this book to those who love a good love story.
This book had the potential to be so much more. Reading this felt like reading book 1 all over again. Jade never gained any confidence about herself. Someone always had to save her and then the story moved so fast. I still feel like the story isn't finished. The last chapter and epilogue left me with questions. Did they really get the hea? Did he finish school? Does she ever find any self confidence? The chapter with his dad is it really close? What does Jade do with her life? See the list could go on so basically there should be another book for them.
I had read all the other books in this series and loved them. This book was just as good if not better than the others Read this series in order. Its very important because in order to see and appreciate the transformation of Jade you need to know where this all started. A girl that found love and understanding from one guy and his brother continues the tradition. Great story.
I just couldn't get into this and I really only read it for some semblance of closure. There were times I liked it but mostly, I was just getting annoying and skimming sections where Jade kept going back to her mother. It was like come on already.... The only reason I finished was because I don't like leaving books unfinished.
I couldn't wait for this book to come out and it was amazing. The first book was so good so I did have my doubts whether or not she could pull through with number 2 and she didn't disappoint. I'd definitely recommend this book!
Uuuuuugggghhhh. Jamie Canosa is killing me! I would love for another book to this series but I honestly don't think that would even be enough. I loved this series and it is a rare find for me to have a book that can pull me out of reality for even a few minutes and this was the PERFECT escape.
Oh man, how do I describe how I feel about this story...other than after reading this book, I'm in love ....with this book! I don't want it to end. Off to see if there is another installment...
if anyone deserved a happy ending in all the books I've read it's Jade. her life was so hard and so heartbreaking. and she was such a good person. I only gave 4 stars because I really wish there would have been some glimpse into the future..I really wanted to know how life ended up for her.
This book. It takes my breath away. Yes it has a HEA but the in between us what I loved. Jade definitely didn't have it easy. Her life was indescribable to me but the author, Jamie Canosa, but it into words for me. And for this I say Thank You.
