About the Book

After escaping her last turbulent relationship, the last thing she needs is more drama — but the universe has other plans…

Tegan Javaman is an autistic, polyamorous midwife with only one goal in mind: to move on from her break-up with a new job, new home, and new outlook. But when her welcome home party sparks a chain of events whose consequences threaten to upend her life forever, will she survive, let alone thrive, in her new life?

‘The Midwife in the Middle’ navigates love, hate, friendship, and more through a neurodivergent lens.

My Review

In this short book, we meet Tegan. She’s not my favorite character, unfortunately. I appreciate some aspects of the character; I love seeing a neurodivergent main character. Especially when they are celebrated and appreciated. There was no putting her down, there was understanding of what she needed in certain moments. She was who she was and that was it. The part that I didn’t care for was her jumping from one relationship to another one. She had such an issue when her ex jumped into a monogamous relationship after they had been together for 3 years in a polygamous one, but then she sort of did the same thing.

I will say, the author wrote Gabriella well. Her escalating behavior had you questioning what she was going to do next. I never expected her to take it as far as she did, but that is one of the things that I love about romantic suspense books.

This is a quick, enjoyable read. I do wish it were a little longer so that we could have felt more of the pull of the relationship between Tegan and Lloyd. I didn’t feel that so much. Otherwise, this was good.

I got this in a recent @indie_visible_services event and was very intrigued so jumped straight in.

Tegan's polygamous relationship breaks down, and not under the best circumstances. So she heads back to her hometown with her old friends, and gets a job as a midwife in the hospital. Tegan runs into Lloyd at a party, an old school friend, and they start getting to know each other again. Lloyd breaks up with his abusive girlfriend Gabrielle and hopes to be with Tegan, but Gabrielle is, to put it bluntly: an absolute psychopath. Her reaction is lethal and she is intent on ruining Tegan's life.

While this is happening, Tegan and her colleague Darcy begin getting closer too. They build quite the connection, and Darcy is there throughout all the chaos of Lloyd and Gabrielle.

This is a fast paced drama filled story. At first I didn't know if it would be for me, but then I couldn't put it down! And before I knew it, I had finished. I really enjoyed all the representation included and I especially appreciated the conversations between Tegan and Darcy. I'd love to see more of them.

I wasn't expecting this story to get as dark as it did. Gabrielle was really dangerous and seriously out with a vengeance! She made me nervous!! A couple things made me gasp.

Looking for something like EastEnders or Hollyoaks, whatever the soaps are these days, in book format? Well, this is a great one to go with. It's not too long and like me, you'll probably finish it fast. I had to know what was going to happen, while also getting a bit of that sprinkle of romance too!

I enjoyed this book. It was a really interesting quick read. The concept was excellent.

The cover is nice. It's very understated. I do like the colours and the character design. It was great for the genre. Good job!

The book is written well and flows nicely. The book is full of suspense and tension which was really good. The book may be a quick read but I think being a real page turner. I couldn't put it down.

Neurodivergence is a strong issue that is explored in the book. Jennifer is neurodivergent herself and has written about it with great care and sensitivity.

The characters are fantastic. The all slot into the story so well. I liked Tegan. She was a lovely person. As was Darcy. I liked Lloyd but felt sorry for him too because of Gabriella. She was a right madam!!

I recommend this book to you all.

Thank you @zooloosBT for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Midwife in the middle is a suspense romance genre that is 152 pages, and I read this in one day. I find the story a bit slow to start with, but once I got into the story, I was engrossed. The story is about Tegan, who is a midwife and just got out of a relationship and moves back home to a new job, but it does not turn out well. I liked Tegan as a person and loved her friends, and I felt genuinely sorry for her due to what she was going through. I didn’t see what would happen at the end, and I was shocked, but I feel this was the right thing to do. The story flows well and is written elegantly. I like there is a certain amount of suspense and tension in the book; it did keep me on the edge of my seat. I would love there to be a second book to see what happens to Tegan next. An enjoyable read. 5 stars.

A short read but a lot goes on, I felt so much for Tegan she moved back to her hometown after a breakup and walk straight into drama.
I loved the neurodiverse perspective in this book I think it was covered really well.
Tegan had some really supportive friends in her group and all the characters were well written even the more despicable ones.
A quick read mainly because it gripped me, I wasn’t sure where it was going but the social media hatred was spot on, it felt very real.
Thank you for having me on this tour for an author I haven’t read before but will definitely be looking out for.

I read this book in one afternoon. It had me hooked from the beginning, and I loved the characters, especially Tegan.

After a breakup, Tegan returns to her hometown to begin a new job at the hospital there. Her roommates and circle of friends are fun.

But not everything is fun and games for these folks. There is someone who wants to destroy everything.

It's well worth an afternoon of relaxation! I'll be looking for more books by this author. I hope this story turns into a series.

Midwife Tegan heads back to her hometown following a difficult breakup.

Enjoying being back with all her old friends again, Tegan heads into a polyamorous relationship.

When Tegan starts finding nasty comments about her on social media, things take a turn for the worse.

This was a quick and enjoyable read. I liked most of the characters, but there were some that were truly awful.

I couldn’t not feel for Tegan, trying to recover from a broken-down relationship, going back to her hometown & trying to enjoy life, was not at all easy for her.

For a short story, this was full to the brim.
