Meagan Reilly Was Innocent!Yet she was condemned to a life of servitude for a crime she did not commit. And though many would call her punishment light, they could not imagine the suffering of each day spent with a man whose forbidden touch would bring the very devil to pay.Josh Daniels had no peace. Although the law had found Meagan Reilly guilty of murdering his wife, he could not believe that justice had been done. For the kind and courageous woman didn't seem capable of taking anyone's life, only of miraculously turning his around for the better!
The Surrogate Wife by Barbara Leigh. I finished this book last night. It was a re-read. I had read it sometime ago, and remembered liking it, so I read it again.
The premise is quite unique because we have a heroine who has to become the servant of a man whose wife she supposedly killed.
The execution and the character development felt wrong. I couldn't stomach Josh's immediate attraction to Meagan, and don't get me started on how childish the villain was portrayed. I lost complete interest in the book when they started going around to warn others about the Indian attack. Also, how old are all the characters, especially Abbie, the hero's daughter?! At times, she acted like a four-year-old; others, like a teenager. It felt especially creepy whenever Meagan's brother was involved.
Bottom line: this was my first and last book by the author.
This book dragged on and on and on.. I only finished it because I made myself.. Its kind of sad because it was a pretty good story but it just dragged in the middle to the point where I just didnt care anymore.. I didnt like that the author didnt give any ages for any of the characters either.
Surprisingly good. I'm not usually much for romances, but this was well-written, and actually managed to make me laugh out loud at a coupld of parts. It was interesting, and kept me wanting to read so I could find out what would happen next.
I did enjoy this frontier fiction romance. it was not spectacular. I probably will remember briefly and then forget it. I will not reread it However, it was an enjoyable way to spend some time and perhaps if you enjoy frontier fiction you might want to check it out. This is not my normal genre, and perhaps that affects my opinion. It looks like this was the last book published by Barbara Lee so there’s not a story about Riley and Abby as far as I know which disappointed me a little, I will check it out if it existed, but it looks like not to be
I like the book, but I think i was not enough... There are not anotther book about Abbie and Reilly? I have been looking for the next book about ther but without success. Someone knows if there a way to contact to Barbara Leigh and ask her?
My return to Harlequinn, and the worst possible premise for a book, that is undeniably sexist and racist. 1999 is not 1790 and the author fails to realize that in the flimsy plot she weaves.
