Cedar Lake #1

Always Been You

Rate this book
One phone call can change your whole life.

Emma Taylor thought she left Cedar Lake behind and the boy who broke her heart along with it but…

Fate had other ideas.

Emma:
Tragedy has brought me back to this small Texas town where everything and nothing has changed. The nothing being I still find myself attracted to the boy, now man, who ruined me all those years ago.

I shouldn’t want him. I know what it’s like to be burned by him, but… I can’t deny the pull of Braz Huntswell, especially now that I’m his daughter’s teacher.

Brazos Huntswell’s life didn’t turn out how he planned in high school. He was supposed to leave Cedar Lake and chase his college baseball dreams before coming home to take over his family’s cattle ranch.

Two pink lines on a piece of plastic was the fly ball out of nowhere.

Braz:
Being a single dad is tough. Being a single dad to a hormonal teenage daughter should qualify me for sainthood. Not only that, I’m trying to keep my family’s legacy alive.

I gave up on love after my ex-wife left me to shoulder everything on my own. But that all changed when I hear her voice on the other end of the phone… The one who got away, well, the one I pushed away—Emma Taylor, my Red.

Cedar Lake isn’t the town they once knew, and people are turning up dead. Someone doesn’t want Braz and Emma together, and they’d do anything to keep them apart… permanently.

Always Been You by Sadie Allen is a roller coaster of a ride full of romance, drama and action!

Wow. Wow. Wow! I did not expect this book to be so packed tight of insanity! Sadie Allen does a fantastic job of writing a fantastical tale about a long lost romance, but she throws in some thrills and chills to keep the reader hooked!

I absolutely loved Emma and Braz's relationship, but Skye was the real winner for me. This teenage girl steals the show, and makes me desperate to grab the next book! Honestly, the wait to pick this book up was SO worth it. I don't know how, but Sadie has managed to blow my expectations out of the water.

The story follows Emma Taylor coming back to her home town, and her long lost relationship with Braz. The two of them had a bit of a falling out, and now they have a chance to rekindle the flames they built up years earlier in high school. There is a bit of a twist though, Braz had an ex who was the psycho bully back in high school and they share a child together. This story has ups, downs, twists and turns that will leave you breathless and desperate for more! This book is not your typical romance novel!

I think Sadie did really well with this book! I truly only expected some ooey, gooey romance and not the eccentric thrills she added in! That may turn off some romance readers, but for me it added to the epic goodness Sadie has created in this world.

I 100% want to continue reading this series, and I want more by Sadie Allen in general. She's a very talented writer who manages to surprise me each time I pick up her books. I hope the next book continues Emma and Braz's story, but I have the feeling it will be another set of characters (since their story ties up nicely in the end).

The only negative thing I could say about this book was that it crosses over genres (and that's hardly a negative). In my eyes, that might be the only "downfall" for some readers who are expecting purely romance.

If I was to give this book a rating, I would say it's PG-13 to R rated. There is a scene where someone gets shot, and some suggestive sexual scenes but it's not insanely graphic. So it lands somewhere between those two ratings.

Five out of five stars!

I received a free copy of this book from the author Sadie Allen in exchange for an honest review.

Oh he** no

I can't stomach weak heroines. This woman is pathetic. The "hero," Brazos - awful name, btw - is an overbearing creep with an excuse for everything to explain away his cowardice, and the heroine, Emma, is so stupid she caves every time like a dog in heat. Both internal and spoken dialogue are loaded with cheese and not the "Aww, sweet" kind but the "Who sliced the limburger" kind.

There's about 25 characters to keep track of and a convoluted plot that is just so ridiculous and random.
Poorly executed story, poor character development and a connection based on lust.
Skip this one. If it had pages I'd use it to line the kitty litter box.

Chili pepper heat is blazing as two high school “friends” are reunited when Emma Taylor comes back home fifteen years after her greatest humiliation and heartbreak at the hands of Brazos Huntswell.

Emma is now a teacher and has come home to be with her father, who is caught up in the soul-deep grief of losing his wife and best friend. She didn’t realize that one of the students at her school was actually Brazos’ troubled teen daughter, a girl with secrets of her own.

Divorced, the single father is in way over his head with his headstrong teen daughter, her newfound sexually provocative dress style and the unknown danger that lurks in the shadows. Will Emma be a help or a hindrance to his parental problems?

ALWAYS BEEN YOU by Sadie Allen is intense, the budding romance between Emma and Braz is pure, raw and primal. A young teen being played for a pawn is heartbreaking. Clearly, Braz is not prepared for those teen years, for the raging hormones he once had as a teen, as he goes all caveman about anyone looking at his daughter as a sexual being. Meanwhile, he is also going all caveman on Emma at times when I couldn’t imagine. To be honest, I did have a problem with his double standards.

Kind of like a sandwich cookie, this tale has two main plots with the sweet spot in between meant to hold them together, and Sadie Allen has done a great job with both sides of the cookie, just wasn’t crazy about how they fit together. It sure isn’t Sadie’s talent, I love her writing, this one is all on me and my overly starched shorts, or something! Sooooo 5 Stars on the romance - 3 stars on the parenting by do what I say, not what I do.

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Sadie Allen!

This one was a good read. I loved Emma. In the beginning I felt bad for her but she turned out to be a strong woman. Her and Brazs have a past that doesn't sit well with Emma. Emma is back in town. Emma and Brazs still have a connection after all those years. I have to say I took a little bit to warm up to Brazs but once I learned what was going on with him at the very beginning of the book my heart melted a little for him. Brazs is now a single parent to Skye. Skye is a strong will kid. They're are some little surprises along the way wile reading this one.

Once upon a time Emma Taylor worked up the courage to tell the boy she had harbored a crush on for years that she wanted him, and then said boy(Braz) did something she hoped he wouldn't and turned her down, for another girl no less. And it broke her heart into a million pieces, and left her feeling antsy to get the heck out of town, so she fled to Vegas and never looked back. But home came calling after all these years, and she has to return to the place that holds bad memories, and where the man who broke her heart resides, and she is not looking forward to it at all. Being back in Cedar Lake means that there is a good chance she will run into Braz again, but she never expected it to be one of her students who reunites them. His daughter is stirring up trouble at school and Emma wants to help the young girl, but she wants no part of it, nor does she want Emma anywhere near her father, because she has hopes of her parents reuniting.

But Braz has other plans in mind, ones that involve him reuniting and rekindling an old friendship he wished he never let go of, and hopefully landing the heart of the woman he has cared for all these years. But before they can get started on creating a happily ever after danger comes to town and they find themselves dodging it at every turn... someone else doesn't want these two lovebirds together either, and they will stop at nothing to keep them apart!!

Always Been You is a spine-tingling tale that will draw you in from the very first page and hold on tight until the last!! All Emma and Braz want to do is find what they lost so many years ago, and have a fresh start, but every time they turn around someone is throwing a wrench into their plans, and putting them in danger. From the moment I started this one I found myself drawn to these wonderful characters, they welcomed me into to their lives and made me feel right at home, and it didn't take long to get wrapped up in their lives, the drama they were facing, and the mystery surrounding them. This was such a delightful read, it had a little bit of everything; suspense, steamy romance, drama, heartfelt emotion, and a little humor sprinkled in here and there... definitely a can't miss tale! I highly recommend you get your hands on this one, once you meet these wonderful characters you will never want to leave them!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Ever since stumbling upon Maybe Never (the original cover was the bait) I’ve been a fangirl of the author, so when she announced Always Been You, which would not be YA and the start of a new series, I was all about getting my hands on it and I must admit that, overall, I really enjoyed it. I was hooked from the start, even if it did have me cringing, and found that, even though one thing drove me a bit batshit crazy, I had a difficult time putting it down and really liked how everything turned out in the end.

Braz and Emma. Braz is a really good man, a little...blind at times, but a good man. He’s taken on a lot of responsibility over the years, and while there are thing or two he may wish he hadn’t taken on, he owns it and does the best he can. As for Emma...I liked her. I did. At her very core, she is a good person with a good heart, but she made my eyes hurt with how much she had me rolling them due to her actions, or inactions. I understood why she thought what she did and why it affected her so deeply, but at the same time I wanted to reach out and Gibbs smack some sense into her. Thankfully, she does have a come to Jesus moment, and finally started to become the woman she was meant to be.

As for Emma and Braz’s journey to their HEA. It’s not hard to assume that with my frustrations with Emma, that it made for an interesting time for me, because it did, but Braz also did a few things that drove me a little BSC as well. But what I will say is that when they were just being themselves and forgetting about everything that had happened and was happening outside of them, I did like them together. There was an easy to them that showed that if they only dropped their walls and put everything out there, they’d have a good base to build from for their future.

There was a lot going on in this one. From bring the town of Cedar Lake and its inhabitants to life to the twists and turns within the main plot line to setting up what looks to be a couple of future romances, it was a lot to take in, but it has me wanting more. The cast of characters that inhabit the town are quite interesting and unique and I’m looking forward to getting to know Bridgette, Ophelia, Kody and Brandt more as well as spending more time with Ginny.

My feelings on this changed a lot as the story went on. It begins with two seniors in high school about to graduate and the girl thinking she can sway her crush of forever from his girlfriend of forever. (how many of us have thought the same?) Then she is crushed when he tells her he is marrying his girlfriend, he got her pregnant and is doing the right thing by her. (gotta give him a little credit for that). She runs to Vegas to her aunts and avoids everyone in the town until push ahead 16 years, her mother dies and her dad is drinking himself away so she moves back, gets a job in the school and winds up her ex crushes daughter's teacher. A teen that is acting out.
Braz is losing his mind over how Sky is acting and can't figure out the sudden changes, plus he worries about her slipping away with all the major changes in town with more crime and now they have no police force working his brother the Sheriff to death.
Then he finds a dead man in his field. One he would have loved to have killed many years ago but didn't.

There begins to be a lot of action and more on the crime making this a bit of mystery suspense which I liked. I think just on the romance itself I may have given it a three and here is why. Braz publicly humiliated Emma in high school then the day he shows up n her office about his daughter when that should have been the main motive he was like a dog in heat and orders her to go out with him not asks. Emma is like no that melts like ice cream in July right away and does. It seems they are all over each other right away.. If this part of the story had been more slow burn as the two worked there way back helping Sky it would have been a five.

But I liked the sub-characters especially Braz's mom and Em's dad, Bridgette and Brandt as well and I cannot wait for the next story. So all in all this is a very good suspense and pretty lifelike since romance isnt all perfect.

It's taken me a couple of days to gather my thoughts on how I felt about this story as I was very conflicted so I went back & forth about it all.  Emma had fallen in love with Braz the first time she saw him when her family moved to Cedar Lake, but it took her a bit to get the courage to tell him, and the moment she did, he seriously humiliated her & she left town without passing go or collecting $200.  Here's the thing, I get why he wasn't going to try with her, but I felt like how he expressed himself was purely mean.  It took 15 years before she came home again, and since her mother passed away, her father couldn't deal so she moved home.  The first time she saw Braz again was when she was talking to him about his daughter who was in her class, and Braz really acted like a caveman.  And since Emma held on to the hurt for so long, I felt like she should have put him through the paces when he started pursuing her.  Those are the issues that I had about this story, and yet, I couldn't put it down either. Now the best part was the mystery surrounding Cedar Lake, because I'm all about the suspense factor since it provides those fun twists to get the f-bombs dropping as dead bodies started piling up.  Anyway, I will be reading the next book in this series as I am excited about it.  So, hit those one click buttons to decide for yourselves as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A sweet, small-town, almost-second-chance-romance with a bit of mystery and a whole lot of heart, this is the first book in Sadie Allen’s Cedar Lake series, and is a great introduction to this town and its characters.

Emma Taylor fell in love with her neighbour, Braz Huntswell, the moment she met him as a new-to-town 12 year old. She nursed her crush for years, finally making her move on graduation night only to get shot down in devastating fashion. Braz’s rejection, and the way he did it, scarred Emma deeply, changing the course of her life forever as she immediately packed up and left town to escape her heartbreak and humiliation. Emma has spent the last 15 years travelling the country, not putting down roots and keeping everyone at arm’s length in order to avoid getting hurt again, but the sudden death of her mother calls her home when her father fails to cope with his loss. Now back in her home town for the first time since she had her heart shattered, she is determined to look after her Dad and keep away from the man who damaged her so badly.

Braz has been through a rough 15 years. He had a hellish marriage until his wife left him when their daughter was only 2, and his baby girl is now all grown up and is a bratty 15 year old. He still lives on his family’s ranch, which he runs, working hard to provide for his family and create a future for himself and his girl. And then Emma Taylor comes back to town.

She was worth the risk. Life didn’t hand you many second chances, and I knew that, if I didn’t take advantage now, I would never be granted another opportunity to explore this thing that had started over fifteen years ago.

Braz knows that he did wrong by Emma, but he had reasons for doing what he did, though he has no idea how badly it affected he. He sees her reappearance as his chance to right the wrongs of the past and finally get a chance at something he always wanted, and he wastes no time in letting her know that.

“All I’m asking for is a chance. We won’t know anything until we try. We didn’t get that chance fifteen years ago, and we’ve both suffered for it.”

This is a really fast-moving reconciliation, and Braz is one intense alpha! He wants his chance with Emma and there’s no way he’s letting her go. There’s a bit of a minefield for them to navigate as they open up about the past and unveil the secrets, misunderstandings and truths about what happened between them so long ago and in their lives in the years since. Emma is still so hurt and Braz has a battle on his hands, but he pushes her forward, and is prepared to do whatever he needs to do to make it up to her.

“I want more with you, Emma. I know you don’t trust me, and I’m beginning to understand why, but I really want to earn it. I’m going to prove myself, and when we take things further, it’s not going to be casual. This is forever, Red.”

But their personal reconnection is only part of their battle, with Braz’s daughter, Skylar, in a world of trouble and causing problems, not everybody in town is happy with Emma’s return and Braz suddenly being off the market, and then a series of violent attacks rocks their peaceful little town, causing all kinds of heartbreak and mayhem. There’s a feeling of mystery and suspense to it, and I really enjoyed watching it all play out.

But, of course, my focus was purely on the love story, which is really sweet. Braz and Emma have great chemistry, and Braz’s take-charge attitude was lots of fun as he held absolutely nothing back from Emma.

“You know, babe, I like this attitude you’ve developed. Every time you open your mouth to say something snotty, it just makes my dick hard.”

But after their reunion stated off in such thorough detail, it felt a bit like the relationship stuff fizzled out a bit in the second half of the book and I had some issues with the pacing of it all. . Of course we see things progress between them, but I would have liked to have seen more detail of them reconnecting and finding their way forward together rather than Braz just declaring it so – even if those declarations are knee-meltingly swoony.

“I’m not going to let you run from me again. You’re going to stay and fight, even if who you’re fighting is me. I’m not letting you go. God wouldn’t bring you back into my life just to take you away again. Whether you like it or not, I was made for you, too. Everything I am, every part of me, is yours. No more holding back, Emma.”

The story builds to its exciting climax, and the different parts of the book wind together really nicely to bring a happy, satisfying ending that left me with a big grin on my face.

Future books of the series are set up with Braz’s brother and his best friend both looking like they’re going to get books, and I’m looking forward to more from this series.

3.5 stars.

There is nothing better than a sexy cowboy who is also a fantastic dad. It's like S.A. reached into my brain and pulled out my very own wet dream. Drool. Emma and Brazos are one of the sweetest couples I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. Their story is far from perfect. But their love is absolutely legendary.

Story Line: Our story begins 15 years ago when our two main characters are celebrating the end of their high school careers. I found this time line hilarious since I legit just got an invite to my 15 year high school reunion. So, that dates me. Yes, I'm the same age as Emma and Braz. That's never happened before so it was insta-love for me. What wasn't insta-love? Emma and Braz. You see, he already had a smoking hot girlfriend. And Emma? Stuck on the sidelines in the dreaded friend-zone. Now, fast forward to present day and Emma is back in her home town and her path crosses with Braz once more. Only this time? This time she's his daughter's teacher.

Braz and Emma remind me of my husband and I, if I'm being perfectly honest. We didn't take 15 years to finally hook up, but it wasn't until 5 years post graduation that our paths would cross and he finally saw me as more than just the queen of the band nerds. Braz was super popular in school and so was my hubby. Emma wasn't on my nerdy level, but I still absolutely related to her. That's honestly one of the things I loved most about this book - the characters are so easy to relate to. And even the intense scenes and the drama that unfolds - I could picture everything and there was never a single moment where I thought to myself "there's no way that would actually happen". This is a love story, but it's also the story of a small town that get's shaken up from its peaceful slumber.

Interaction: Emma isn't exactly thrilled to be back in her hometown. She's got a pretty big chip on her shoulder. And I totally get it. I think I was that devil on her shoulder quite a bit in the beginning. When she reconnects with Braz, I was that voice in her head saying "Do not give in, girlfriend!" But after that scene where they go horseback riding together (that's not a spoiler, folks. He's a cowboy. It was bound to happen), I was a goner.

Laundry: Slow, sweet, delicious burn alert, people. Don't expect our love birds to hit the sheets on date one. And if you do? Shame on you! This story is brilliantly told and it would go against everything these two are building if they were to fast forward to the naughty stuff. I kid you not, at one point I was like wait? They haven't had laundry yet? The angst and the foreplay and all the other fun stuff is enough to hold the attention of even the horniest of readers ;)

Depth: Truth time. I picked up this book expecting a super sweet love story - which I totally got. But what I WASN'T expecting was the intensity of some of the scenes. SERIOUSLY. There is a whole other dimension of stuff going on in this small town. I refuse to give away anything because I want y'all to be as surprised as I was. But just keep an open mind to possibilities with this story line. Because just when you start hearing the song "the final countdown" in your head thinking an epilogue is coming. Guess what? It's not. Your heart is about to be beating out of your chest and you're about to get real mad at certain characters and super scared for others. It's a winding road, but it's so good. SO DANG GOOD.

My thoughts are a little jumbled for Always Been You. I really enjoyed Sadie Allen’s writing, but there was something that didn’t work for me. I’m not sure how to explain it, but I’ll do my best.

I would categorize Always Been You as a romantic suspense novel. There was a second chance love story between the main characters, Emma and Braz. There was also a murder mystery happening in their small town of Cedar Creek. I liked both aspects, but they also distracted from each other.

Emma and Braz were great characters. I liked them individually. They each had a lot going on in their own lives. Emma was a teacher and was encouraging her father to live again after losing her mother. Braz was a rancher and single father. I loved their relationships with their families. It was the best part of the book. I especially loved Braz’s relationship with sky.

As for Emma and Braz together… I didn’t connect with their relationship. I have a hard time believing second chance love stories where the characters pined for each other for years and years without seeing each other. It doesn’t feel natural to me. I understand having that regret or person in the back of the mind at times, but I don’t get not moving on. Emma more so in this aspect than Braz. What made it even harder for me was their reconnection felt like instant love. I didn’t feel like I ever really got to see them get to know each other as adults with the amount of time they spent together. I wasn’t sold on their love. I think I could have been if their relationship was the main focus of the book.

As for the murder mystery, I liked that. I am not always a big fan of romantic suspense, but the suspense part worked for me. I could kind of see what was coming, but it was still exciting. My only complaint with this part was that there wasn’t a complete conclusion — probably because there is already a book two in the works.

I hate that this review sounds negative. I actually did enjoy reading Always Been You. I wanted to know what was going on with the murders and how things would work out for Emma and Braz. I still do. I will definitely read the second book to find out what else is to come in Cedar Creek.

Get ready to go on a wild ride in the small town of Cedar Lake, Texas. This story begins with 17 year old Emma revealing to her long time crush Brazos that she loves him. Things don't go as planned and she ends up heart broken. She leaves town and decides to never try love again. Now it's years later and she is back in town to bury her mother who died suddenly. Brazos is a single and divorced dad. The high school sweetheart he loved turned out to be a monster and left him and their daughter behind. Once Emma is back in town he makes it his mission to have her. What he never told her all those years ago was he had feeling for her too but he was a great, loyal guy. The only thing was it was to the wrong person. Cedar Lake is not the town Emma remembers. Especially since a dead body shows up and friends are hurt badly. While Brazos is trying to win the heart of Emma, he is also dealing with his 14 year old daughter who is suddenly acting out. When truths come out, the town and this couple have their worlds rocked.
This was such a great story! It had everything I love. It was a sweet story. It had heartbreak. There were moments I wanted to be tears myself. It was romantic. And there was a mystery. The author grabs the readers attention right away and holds the reader there until the end.
Another cool thing was each chapter had a different song. So as I read I made sure to listen to the song of the chapter. That was such a fun and cool way to read this story. And it really helped me get deeper into it.
I highly recommend this book. Even if romance isn't your thing. This book is more than a romance. It will keep all readers (18+) intrigued and I don't doubt this will go on everyone's favorite list.

This story was full of emotions, mystery, suspense, and a hot cowboy.

Emma … man, what do I say about her? I loved Emma! This girl had her heart broken before she was able to truly live, which hardened her against ever falling for a man. When she holds a grudge, she REALLY holds a grudge. I understand where she was coming from, though. When you have your mind and heart set on something (especially your heart), when things finally start to come together and you feel like you are so close to all your dreams coming true … then someone throws a bucket of ice water on you… yeah, years of therapy would be needed to overcome such a slap of reality. Nevertheless, she was a strong, determined, and a compassionate character.

Braz is Emma’s bad guy, the man who broke her heart, but he isn’t bad. Emma’s expectations were too high. Braz is actually a caring individual who was manipulated into a situation that he ended up making the best of. His life was a hard road, full of life’s bumps of heartbreak, disappointment, but also the best kind of love—his daughter. He is a hardworking man, trying to be the best parent he can be while turning his life into something better.

The suspense and mystery don’t end with this book. This little teaser is just the beginning of something bigger going on. Toward the ending, some of the pieces come together and we have a few heart-stopping moments when the villain shows their true colors.

This was a great start to a series that is sure to have many surprises along the way. Totally a recommended read.

The suspense has me on the literal edge of my seat! In the beginning, I was a little confused as to how this storyline would pan out, especially with how Emma acted as a teenager, but quickly I understood these characters and the growth that happened between the time jump. Emma has been in love with Braz since she moved to town, but after embarrassing herself after graduation by throwing herself at him and him not reciprocating those feelings, she runs away with the promise to never return…until she does. After the sudden death of her mother, Emma returns to town a decade later and finds that things aren’t what was planned when she left so many years before. While Braz had feelings for Emma as a teen, he never acted on them after his girlfriend informed him of her pregnancy. Years later, he is divorced and doing the best he can as a single father to take care of his daughter. When he finds out Emma has returned, he takes it as a sign to act on his old feelings, and these two falls right back into the same chemistry they had all those years ago. Things aren’t what they seem though, with Braz’s ex-wife resurfacing and causing turmoil in the town in addition to manipulating their daughter. My heart broke for Braz’s daughter and what her mother did, but I am so happy that Emma and Braz get their HEA and his daughter gets the stability of a woman in her life. I was shocked with how much I enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next book to find out who was working with Braz’s ex-wife!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Always Been You is an intriguing tale about coming home. Emma is all of us. Rejected, scorned, and fearful of returning to the scene of the crime. She comes back to her hometown under sad circumstances and is forced to reunite with the man who broke her heart. In the time they spent apart, Braz has become painfully aware that Emma was the one who got away.

Their story isn't just a one and done, though. It isn't just about romance. There is a ton of excitement going on in Cedar Lake that means the reader never gets bored. Though listed as romance, this book is remarkably cross genre. Sadie Allen gets better and better and I am very proud to call myself a fan of this up and coming author.

Amazing beautiful deep story! Emma as a teenager had a huge crush but unfortunately that crush tuned into hate. Now back home years later trying to take of her grieving father. But the past comes out full force and seeing Braz opens up old memories of heartache. A great drama filled romance so much I want more! A must read for any second chance romance fans. 5/5 stars

Always Been You was such a page turning read! I absolutely loved this book! This story is one in a series but seems it can be read as a stand alone. I can’t wait for the next book in this series to see other stories unfold within the town of Cedar Lake. There is some suspense in this book with unexpected surprises. I highly recommend reading this book.

Do not recommend

The heroine in this book is so weak. She’s wishy washy. She’s supposed to mad or upset and he winks at her and she’s so in love with him.

Love this book cant wait for #2

This was a great story. Unique plot an great characters. Sadie has a way of capturing moments in time that we can all identify with an then pushy & pully our emotions to the edges of those dreams and nightmares. Just the right amount of steam to be hot with scolding one to badly ;) perfect story an cant wait for next in the series!!!!!

I could not put this book down. First time I’ve read from this author, so happy I took the chance. I was hooked from the first 5 minutes in. I also didn’t put this book down for a break at all. Emma and Braz gave me everything from laughter to that knot in your chest from the angst. Cedar Lake was a great place to visit for a few hours and can’t wait head over again

This book surprised me immensely with how good it was. I have not read anything else by this author, but she left the door open to more books in this series, and I want to know where they are. We begin with flashbacks to high school days, knowing high schoolers can be jerks and blind to what is best for them. Emma has been in love with Braz and being head-strong, she stumbles into heartbreak instead.

Fast-forward ten years, and Emma is back as a high school teacher in the town where Braz still lives. Both have discovered that life does not give you the reality you think you will get when you are in high school.
The girl Braz picked over Emma got pregnant, and Braz is now raising his daughter as a single dad. Emma has come back to help her dad after her mother's passing, and she is teaching Braz's daughter in high school. Of course, their paths cross, and Emma still hurt from his rejection all those years ago. Braz begins the work to win her over. It is a beautiful tale of rebuilding bridges and getting to know each other all over again.

What we also get is a bit of mystery that leads to some well-written suspense—introductions to an exciting cast of characters that could keep a series going for several more books. I notice this was written a couple of years ago, and I am still hopeful there will be more installments in this series. I need to know what goes on with Braz's brother. Help a girl out, Sadie Allen.

“Small town stories are so my thing! Plus if there’s a sexy cowboy on the equation who am I to deny such story? Definitely a page turner read! Emma and Braz’s story was so deep and breathtaking. My heart broke for Emma as teen but also a tiny part of me hated her so much. Don’t gent me wrong she wasn’t a bad person but girl come one you can’t be so weak. Yes, I know being brokenhearted is painful and awful but she wasn’t a kid anymore. I really thought about stoping reading but I managed to get to the end. I’m a lover of mysteries and when, I won’t give you spoilers of the plot. Anyway, Braz. No matter what to me he did the ‘right’ back in high schooL. It didn’t went well but it was dumb of Emma to thinking that a confession was enough to start an everlasting love. Despite that I really liked the story. Braz’s grown up version had me laughing and smiling.”

A Two liner for book & Author:

Interesting Characters, Engaging Story, Powerful Writing,
The way Sadie write will make you fall in love.

My review is 4.4 stars.

I was waiting for quite a time now to read one of Sadie's. She has been out of my read list for some time now. And the way she came with #ABY that's actually commendable. I really loved the way she accomplished the book. From start to finish there was so much to cherish for. It's just a small statement when we say that Small Town romance is sweet, but not to forget that, Small Town Romance is actually the best romance that anyone can read and be cheerful, and if it comes from the likes of Sadie, hmm..., so I need to say more?

Coming back to the book, there is only one thing that was inconsistent in the whole book and that was the pace of the story that I felt was not as good as the book is. If the pace of the book was consistent than I will be the first one to say that this one is nothing but an impeccable book.

Characters are so awesome and the author gave her complete attention to develop them. She created something I call an Author's Vortex and I fell in it and came out when the book was finished. This is what I call a complete structure that can reside in your mind and never go. The story is so good and I saw a nag that relates Sadie to the story.

Let me say like this:

Language: 4.2 stars
Words-Phrases: 4.2 stars
Characters: 4.6 stars
POV: 4.2 stars
Plot: 4.6 stars
Story: 4.5 stars
Dialogues: 4.4 stars

The plot is awesome, and it acted as a perfect base for a strong powerful sweet story. The scenes written are beautiful, there is one thing that has an ample space for improvement and that is POV & language.

This is a book I would defintely recommend.
