Sam Healey grew up in a home filled with love, where her parents' biggest wish was for her and her sister, Cherie, to thrive and lead full lives. When Cherie dies suddenly, Sam embarks on what she believes will be a straightforward trip to Wellington to settle Cherie's estate. Instead, she uncovers a family secret that shatters her world, forcing Sam to confront a truth she never saw coming. Grappling with feelings of betrayal, Sam turns to her husband, Tom, for support. Their marriage, happy to start with, has grown stale and lacks the lustre of the early days. With both of them leading full and busy lives, there isn’t much time for each other anymore. Guided by her sister's letters and journals, Sam begins to unravel the reasons behind the secret, grappling with its implications for her future and finding a path to healing—both for herself and her relationship with Tom.
Loved this story about Samantha Healey finding herself as the sole heir to her sister's estate. As she packs it up, past family secrets have come to light which sends Samantha in search of a new discovery of her own. Looking forward to reading more of your work, Catherine.
Finding Sam Healey surprised me with its emotional depth and layered storytelling. At its heart, this book is about family lies and long-buried secrets that finally come to light—maybe a little too late, but still with powerful impact. I was especially drawn to the characters; each one felt real and well-developed, thanks to the author’s strong attention to detail. The story moves at a steady pace, revealing just enough at the right moments to keep me invested. It’s puzzling that there are so few reviews—this deserves more attention! If you enjoy family dramas with emotional complexity, this is worth picking up.
Loved the way this was written with letters and diary entries. I really felt for and connected with the characters, was along on the journey with them. Lucky enough to have a signed copy by the author. A good read, thoroughly enjoyed.
