I think these individual stories were released individually rather than in an anthology originally, so it's worth keeping that in mind, but it felt to me reading all of them at once that this last one had to do a lot to tie up all of the loose ends that were still present at the end of the previous novel - did a good job, would probably give this one a 3.5 if I could, but all of them were an enjoyable read nonetheless
After twenty-five years of preparation the Sith are ready to head out to the other continent. Because of his ability to translate the ancient writings of Yaru Korsin's mothers language, Varner Hilts has been named Grand Lord with Iliana as his mate. The old ways have been restored as well and when Edell arrives on the other continent with three of his airships they find that the people of this land have been preparing for nearly three-thousand years for their arrival.
It turns out that after Adari's betrayal of Yaru and the Sith, she expected to die, but instead landed in water and came ashore. She let the people know of the demons and what the Sith had done to enslave her people. She told them of the force and that some of them might be able to use it. Basically, Adari prepared these people for the eventual arrival and they were well prepared when that day came.
The main characters in this story are Edell who, despite having his ship blown from the sky manages to make it to shore with a small band of other Sith, and a local woman named Quarra Thayn. Edell captures Quarra and Jogan, the man she wanted to have an affair with and demands that she take him to the military and political leaders or he'll have the Sith kill Jogan.
When news of Edell's group sighting land reached the Sith, Bentado convinced the Grand Lord to allow him to launch his invasion force. The attack comes as Quarra is taking Edell to those in power and the attack is all but disastrous.
Without revealing too much, Jogan becomes what Adari was three-thousand years earlier. He is convinced the Sith aren't what they've been taught and finally Grand Lord Hilts arrives to much fanfare. His plan was much like Yaru Korsin's original plan by acting out the Protector and Destroyer folklore.
The ending of this story is pretty sad because it's all too common. One person was duped and now an entire people are once again at the mercy of the Sith. Still it was a great read and a great ride.
In this final direct tale in the line of the Sith for the collection, Sith finally arrive on the larger continent - a continent that has been prepared to resist them.
Overall, it was a decent story and tied up some of the threads of the previous stories. It also implies more developments to come for the Kashiri & Sith on the planet. This is not my favorite among the stories, but it isn't the worst.
I liked the overall arc of the Lost Tribe series, and a lot of the interesting characters introduced. Not my favorite of the Legends, but definitely an enjoyable read.
All good Star Wars stories contain rhyming themes. Pandemonium does this very well and wraps up the Lost Tribes and continues to build upon the lore for the future.
I liked this one. I kinda rounded up. I really think it's a 3.5. It dragged a bit in the beginning, but only semi redeemed itself before kind of plateauing. It's an ok led into The Fate of the Jedi novels. I feel they could have done more or maybe if there was a follow up it would have been better.
