Everyone knows that succubi are worse than vampires, ghouls, incubi, or even werewolves, because a succubus' pleasure-addled victims don't realize they're in danger until it's too late. Cullinane, said to be incorruptible among his fellow Wards of the Wall, is ready for the worst when he's assigned to track down a rogue succubus. But Blaed, the young MMA fighter Cullinane hunts, is anything but the sensuous monster Cull expects. He's unsubtle, uncultured, angry... and desperate for Cullinane's help. He's willing to offer anything to get it, too — including what Cullinane has never allowed himself to crave. And oh, is Cullinane tempted. Has he at last met a succubus with integrity? Or is this a seduction that can corrupt the incorruptible? Alpha male meets -- and wants -- alpha male in this erotic urban fantasy adventure!
This is a romance balanced on a knife-edge of desire and trust. Because of what they are, the lovers have every reason for resentment and doubt. They're immediately thrust into a situation where they have no choice but to rely on one another, and as their relationship blossoms they make themselves more and more vulnerable to each other despite how badly they could be betrayed (and have been in the past). It's painful and lovely, and hot in the hot parts. Plus, the world-building is delicately included, a whole intricate world revolving around the Wards but mentioned so lightly you just absorb it as you go. I'm intrigued to find out more about that.
Definitely recommend to anyone who likes their m/m paranormal romance a bit more paranormal and a bit less conventional. I'll certainly be reading any further books in this series, regardless of the characters involved.
First off, Laurentian is a hoot. Cull and Blaed are adorable together, the book was interesting, all in all a jolly good time. MaryAnne's stamp of approval on this bad boy
When I read the synopsis of this book, I knew it was going to be one of those paranormal books that change the rules a bit from the usual paranormal stories. Usually an incubus and a succubus are basically the same, except for the gender, but in this story a succubus is the sex demon when the incubus links to ones subconsciousness. It was a bit weird in the beginning because I had a hard time to let go from what I knew and just open my mind for something new. When I was able to do this, I really enjoyed the story.
Oh uau! Precisooo ksksk
with this story it can certainly be longer for more details of the ward. but author chose it to be short. succubus and consent, certainly unusual story here.
