Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.

Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.

In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

2017 update: This is where I stopped reading Outcast. All the next issues got stuck on a pile of comics. Same sentiments before, this is the time when I really become excited reading the series.

Original review: In fairness with this issue, it made me start to like Kirkman's Outcast. The story now seems to buildup and connect seemingly disjointed elements in the first three chapters. I cannot anymore feel the clunkiness of the dialogue which was my biggest gripe with the previous issues. It really takes some time to acquire the appreciation with this guy's style. For the first time, I am excited for the next issue.

Kirkman is a master at horror comic storytelling and character building. But it’s Azaceta who brings me back issue after issue. Is talent is the story behind the story.

I'm glad that Kyle asked Luke for a badge. Although I don't know if I believe Luke with his reply about not having one since he was on leave. That just seems like too easy an answer.

So, Luke was able to dig up information on Kyle, that doesn't mean he's a cop. It just means that he asked the right people.

If you go around town asking questions about someone, I'm sure you'll find someone who knows something about everyone.

Oh damn, that bad guy, or demon or whatever he is in the black clothing, is now staking out Kyle's house and watching him even more. That's not good.

Oh crap, don't let this bad guy hurt or kill Norville. I like Kyle's sweet old man neighbor and don't want anything to happen to him. Don't kill Norville, Kirkman!

I'm glad that Kyle went to see the reverend after talking to Luke. I'm also glad that he agreed to keep helping the reverend helping these people. and that Kyle told the reverend about Luke.

I like that Kyle got to see the reverend helping out those families by dropping off food to them. Maybe it'll make Kyle more eager and willing to help people now.

That lady, Mildred was acting way too odd NOT to be possessed. I mean, the word must have been spread through all the demons, that Kyle's the Outcast, so they don't want him to touch them.

So, the reverend say he exorcised her, but I don't think it worked. The way the lady was acting, was just way too weird for me. I mean, she let them both in, and then when Kyle touched her, she flipped out.

Seriously? Megan's getting pissy over her husband wanting to protect her, and kicking Donnie's ass on her behalf? She's a fucking moron. Holt was trying to protect her.

Aww, poor Luke. I'm sad that his wife was killed by his best friend, who was possessed. I hope that the reverend and Kyle decide to go to the prison and help the friend.

From one conversation between Luke, Kyle and the reverend, we've learned way too much about the guy. I get that he wants their help, and wants to tell them everything he knows so they can be prepared, but damn, the guy talks a lot.

I don't like the idea of the reverend and Kyle going to the prison. I know they need to try and save Luke's friend, but I wish they could do it in another location.

Also, I don't think it's a good idea for the reverend to be giving Kyle false hope. It doesn't look like he's going to be getting his family back any time soon, so the reverend shouldn't be lying to Kyle.

Damn! I hate that "Sidney" killed Norville! The poor old man. I feel so bad that Norville was killed, just so the demon could use his house to spy on Kyle.

I don't like the idea that that other cop said it was okay for them to beat up the prisoner. It's illegal to say and do that kind of thing. It's called prisoner abuse or something.

Oh yeah, the demon in that guy makes him look so fucking creepy. I wonder what's going to happen next, and if the reverend and Kyle will be able to get the demon out of him.

Who is Luke Masters and what answers does he bring Kyle? A major new character is introduced as Kyle's epic journey starts down a new path.

I can not express how much I love the Outcast team! Robert Kirkman is a master comic/story writer. Paul Azaceta is an amazing artist and Elizabeth Breitweiser compliments his artwork with her own amazing skills at coloring. And of course Outcast's story wouldn't have the unique emphasis and dramatic lettering style if it wasn't for Rus Wooton. Everything about this team is amazing as I have said before. Looking into other works by each will probably be revisited again in May as the theme will be Graphic Novels/Comic/Manga since Saturday, May 2, 2015 is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!

The story thus far has been more about Kyle and the events that have lead the Reverend seek Kyle's help with the possessed members of his church and neighborhood. Issue 4, however, fully introduces Luke Masters, an off-duty detective who has been doing some digging into Kyle's past and recent activities. Besides this introduction and meeting with Luke Masters, you are introduced to a few others as well, a member of the Reverend's church whom he exercised and the best friend of Luke Masters. There is no finger biting, kicking to the face, or murder in this issue, but there is the strange guy in the shadows again that has visited the church, Kyle's mother and now his next door neighbor and the creepy smiling face at the end.

I really can't get over the amazing facial expression and detail that Paul Azaceta does for Outcast. If you haven't seen his work before or came across his name, first WHATS WRONG WITH YOU, second go over to google and click the images link and google his name RIGHT NOW. I was first introduced to him by his work with B.P.R.D. and Hellboy and since have kept my eye out for his work, which was why I was really excited to see his name on Outcast as well.

I recommend Outcast for any Robert Kirkman, Paul Azaceta or any of the rest of the team fans. As well as, anyone who loves comic thrillers, The Exorcist and any Stephen King fans.
