A second chance leads to sudden pregnancy in USA TODAY bestselling author Janice Maynard's epic Texas Cattleman's After the Storm prequel novella…
Texas financier Jed Farrell always gets what he wants—except when it comes to the one who got away, Kimberly Fanning. Now he's here to settle old scores with his high school sweetheart at their ten-year reunion. But when they end up back between the sheets, the man with a plan soon gets an unplanned baby surprise. Will old doubts and differences scuttle their second shot at a future together? The time for answers is running out as a storm literally brews on the horizon….
The story continues in Stranded with the Rancher by USA TODAY bestselling author Janice Maynard, only from Harlequin Desire!
Janice Maynard came to the writing life early! When her third grade short story, “The Princess and the Robbers”, won a red ribbon in a school arts fair, Janice was hooked. She followed up that early success with a more commercial piece in the sixth grade… “Why My Mom Loves To Drink Coke”. No advance for that one, but she won a six-pack of Coke… remember those great little bottles?
In junior high Janice began circulating her work to a wider audience. A dozen or so notebook pages stapled together made the rounds in some particularly boring classes, with the riveting tales carefully hidden behind textbooks.
High school meant the big time… editor of the school newspaper, the Maroon and White. Janice used her insightful editorials to delve into such meaty subjects as “locker room odor” and “why we need two-ply tissue in the student bathrooms”.
College brought lots of writing, but very little of it creative… four years later, Janice stepped into the adult world as a fully certified elementary teacher.
Despite motherhood, full-time employment, and keeping up with an “always into something” husband, Janice never lost her love of writing or the desire to be published. In 1996 she realized her long-time dream when Kensington Publishing bought her first book, Sweetheart. That exciting moment was followed by the sales of two more books in the Precious Gem line.
In the fall of 2002, Janice left the classroom to pursue writing full-time.
The Untameable Texan by Joyce Maynard is a 2014 Harlequin Desire publication.
This short story is centered around Jed and his high school sweetheart, Kimberly. After high school, Kimberly breaks things off with Jed without really explaining why. Jed was angry and hurt for a very long time, but now with their high school reunion on tap, he plans to corner Kimberly and find out once and for why she broke his heart.
If you enjoy second chance love stories like I do then you know how hard it is to resist one, so I snapped this up while it was on a kindle promotion. I thought Jed was sexy and so obviously still in love with Kimberly, but his character didn't have as much depth, as did Kimberly's. She lived a much harder life and he has lived a more charmed one. Even so, the couple's chemistry sizzles and burns hot, and there is no denying they belong together. The story ends a little abruptly and with a wee bit of a cliffhanger, but you still get the gist of things, and of course you can always pick up the next book in the series to see how it gets fleshed out. This is an enjoyable enough read, super short so it would work great for a lunch break diversion. 3 stars
TOUS LES CLICHES ROLLED INTO ONE BOOK.
Check. Libido de fou. Check. Oh mais je te veux toujours. Check. T'es maqué? Non. Moi non plus. Check.
Ils couchent donc ensemble.
Ils veulent coucher. Good for them. Elle est sous pilule. Good for her. Ils ont pas de condoms. Shame.
I enjoyed this book. It is a cliffhanger left in a way that you want to buy the next book to find out what happens. I normally don't like cliffhangers, however the plot and character peaked my interest, and kept me intrigued. I will go on to buy the next book.
Jed and Kimberly were high school sweethearts. The two were crowned homecoming King, and Queen. When Jed left for college, it was Kimberly that wrote the dear John letter breaking things off. Jed has always loved her. At the high school reunion he comes back to town to see Kimberly, and find out why she called it off...
This is a very short book, but it is free. It gives us background information for the next book in the series.
This was a nice quick read. I do wish that it ended with an actual ending and not a cliff hanger. That always frustrates me.
So Jed was clearly still in love with Kimmie, but to afraid to admit it. And the same went for her. I guess allot was tied into this quick story but I wish we got the characters HEA in this book. I think the next book is Jed's brothers so fingers crossed it ends Jed's story with Kimmie as well but I have books to read before I can begin this series and that disappoints me greatly.
Very short prequel to the newest Texas Cattleman's Club series. Jed has come back to Royal for his high school reunion for one reason. He wants to see Kim again and finally find out why she broke things off with him after he left for college. He has realized that he's never forgotten her and feels that he will never have a successful relationship until he deals with his past.
Kim is surprised to see Jed at the reunion, and not very happy when he makes it clear that they will talk before he leaves. She had loved him very much, but felt that the differences between them were too great for them to have a future together. He was wealthy and had a great future ahead of him. She was poor and the only one of her family left to take care of her ailing grandmother. She was afraid he would throw it all away to stay with her, so she broke things off.
A couple dances together and they discovered that the old attraction was still there. Those dances led to a smoking hot night together, but she left in the morning before Jed woke up. Thanks to crises at work, it was six long weeks before Jed could get back to Royal and talk to Kim. All he had been able to think of was her, and he wanted a chance to convince her that they could have it all.
Kim had run because she was scared by the intensity of the feelings she still had for Jed. She still couldn't see a future for them because she was still hung up on their differences. But she turns up pregnant, and Jed is right there, insisting on taking care of her. He wants more than just to share parenting duties, and Kim has to decide if she wants to take a chance on the future she's dreamed of.
Just as they declare their feelings for each other, the sirens go off. In the distance is a monster tornado, heading straight for Royal. They know that things are going to change far more than they had expected.
I loved Jed's determination to show Kim how much he cared. The scenes in the doctor's office were sweet, as was his care for her when she passed out on him. I really wanted Kim to have more confidence in herself and their feelings, and fortunately it did come through in the end. For such a short story I thought it did well at developing the characters and setting up for the series.
Second chances romance set in Texas with a ten year high school reunion theme. Cliffhanger! This is one of those introduction to the book and the series type short stories So Jed Farrell has never had a invested relationship since his first love, Kimberly Fanning. So when he has a chance to clear the air at their tenth school reunion dance, he goes for it and they end up in bed with some unplanned results which gives them both a second chance at love. Super cute story in the harlequin style, but I would have liked reading the whole story. 53 pages and kindle freebie
Wow! What a great little book! Already downloaded the first one in the series. Great character development and a believable story. So glad I took a chance on this. This is not a typical read as a general rule.
This book was pretty good, but ended very abruptly. It was also pretty short. You really didn't get much of a chance to get to know the characters very well. I'm buying the next to see what happens next.
Loved this book. The characters make you feel like you know what they are going through. The love makes you feel. good. I had to buy the next in the series as the teaser at the end for it was so good.
I don't like cowboys, westerns, or basically anything stereotypically Texan. And I LIVE in Texas. I do like reunion, second-chance stories, and this was that, but cowboy hats really turn me off;)
This was a really good read. I like to see two people who have unfinished business with each other come back together and find love. Jed was determine and Kimberly couldn't fight/hide from him or her feelings anymore. Short novella I wish it was longer.
Nice story, but why so short? And why this ending? There could have been used more words and details to write this story. It would make it a better story. Now it is just a nice read.
