Charles G. West first arrived on the western literary scene in March, 1998 with his first novel, Stone Hand, published by Penguin under their Signet imprint. The book was the first of a three-book series, featuring Jason Coles, master tracker. The public response to those first three books called for more western fiction by West, and as of January 2014, Signet has published forty-five.
Inspired in his youth by great adventure authors like A.B. Guthrie and Vardis Fisher, West has always sought to be true to the men and women who braved the dangers of the savage frontier that was ultimately forged to become the American west. Novels by Charles G. West are classified as historical/westerns due to his diligent research in his subject matter, choosing to weave his fiction into the fabric of the actual places and events, being true to the times as well as the people. As a result, his protagonists are usually not heroes, but are often called upon to perform heroic deeds.
Insisting that his protagonists must be instilled with a sense of fairness in addition to courage. West readily admits that many of the characters in his books are patterned after his two sons, both of whom are graduates of the University of Montana, one still lives in Kalispell, Montana - and is the source of much of the author's detail on the ways of the mountain man. Both sons share West's love for the Big Sky Country.
Presently, the author resides in Ocala, Florida with his wife, Ronda, whose name is found on the dedication page of every West novel.
No spoilers!!! Charles G. West never disappoints, he puts you the reader right in his pages and is one of greatest Western writers of the 21st Century.
This is the first of a three book series about, Jordan Gray. He's a hard working farmer, has a young wife Sarah, and a young son Jonah. Three Outlaws kill a neighbor family to the Gray's, Jordan's part of the posse looking for them. When tragedy strikes his homestead. The Outlaws come appone his Cabin, they kill his wife, son, steal anything of value and burn it down.
Jordan returns home, buries his family and strikes out on vengeance trail. Along the way, he runs in trouble with the law and ends up in the hanging Judge Issac Parker's court room. You'll have to read this one to know how he fares.
West's one of the best with his support characters that appear in his stories, never repetitive in his writing and just keeps it real. Be it a series or a standalone, it's all good reads.
This a book of revenge. Jordan Gray is a rancher and while he is off doing his duty in a posse, the bad guys kill his wife and child. The title comes from an old saying that the devil takes care of his kin. The bad guys leave a trail of bodies to follow and unexpected help comes when needed. The characters are well developed and the plot moves. It is a decent read by a good author.
Another good read from Charles G. West. This book starts a series about a man named Jordan Gray, who seemingly excels at being in the wrong place at the wrong time. During his journey he meets a cast of interesting and deplorable characters, but through it all he is determined to catch the bad guys. You can't ask for much more in a Western story.
Once again, another great novel by Charles G. West. Superbly written and presented. Full of great adventures with just a dab of humor. What a vivid and twisted initiative n action this author possesses. Lon .at he write. He has in me a fan forever. A must read.
