I really wanted to like this one - interesting plot but the writing style was driving me nutty. The author kept deviating from the running story with to so many flashbacks and 'character reminiscences' that it was hard to stay on target with the story. I was skipping heaps of paragraphs so i could find the original storyline. I loved her other book but this one didnt do it for me.
Amusing read. This is the second book I've read by Marisa Mackle & I would read more by her. These are more 'coming of age' books than romances, I think. The main character 'grows up', comes to terms with herself. The book almost reads like inner monologue or a conversation over coffee. I like the intimacy of that point of view.
A good book for the beach. And also only 99 cents!
A very funny light read! Never read a book that is about the job of a flight attendance, and not surprisingly, the author Marisa Mackle was a one of them herself before she started writing. I can't wait to read her another book Confessions of an Air Hostess.
I laughed so much reading this funny trip into the world of Katie. I must say it was a new world for me, since I have a terrible fear of flying that has kept me grounded my entire life. Even after enjoying this so much, I'm still not tempted to fly. Of course the story was more about the tragically hilarious romances of Katie. I don't want to give away which man was what to Katie but I was surprised by how it all played out in the end. The narrative was unique in that it was a first person, sort of free flow allowing Katie to take us down many paths. I enjoyed that aspect as that tends to be how I think, with a lot of asides. This is my second book from this author and I look forward to reading more.
Flight attendant Katie meets a handsome TV star called Adam Kirrane on board a long haul flight from New York to Dublin & is instantly smitten with him. After a couple of dates, she hears from the rumour mill that he is dating another flight attendant & she starts to get suspicious of Adam & his motives.
My Thoughts:
Katie’s life as a flight attendant sounded absolutely amazing & it was great to soar through the skies with her. I enjoyed being taken along for the ride (even though her personal life did hit a little turbulence from time to time). The Mile High Guy is a humorous, romantic comedy & I’d recommend it.
Suggesting this is a romantic comedy is a bit far reaching because there is nothing about this that is inherently funny. It reads like an unedited diary.... And not in an enticing way, but more because it's rambling and not much of a story line.
Mildly amusing romance. It's a well-written first person narrative but a very light read, perhaps for a holiday on the beach, when we are allowed to take those again!
This book contains a good story line, but not a bit of comedy in sight disappointing as billed as an Irish Romantic Comedy. The grammar is appalling and the whole thing is written as a total cliché. However it contains some quite good moments scatted between all of this and missing sentences.
Written as a conversation which really felt forced, the main character is completely self-absorbed and contradicting therefor I felt no sympathy towards her at all. The raw material though was really enjoyable. I felt the writing of this must have been rushed as, if more time had been spent on the lay out of the story line and character development this would have read a lot better. The ending came out of nowhere and in my mind should have been introduced a lot earlier within the narrative.
In short a good story done badly, I was hooked by the subject but was left rolling my eyes quite a lot of the time. I was left with the feeling that I would have loved it had it been done well.
This was a funny first person narrated story and there is a surprise to whom Katie the Irish Flight attendant will end up with. I like that she is human and vacillated between settling for just Mr. Right-Now or waiting for Mr. Right. I thought that this was just going to be another 'reformed rake' plot, but there is much more to this fully formed heroine's story. I did laugh out loud a few times, especially when she is with her family. I have those people in my family so I can empathize. 2 and a half stars.
Katie is that air hostess who has been in the same relationship because she feels she should be for a few years. She gets approached by a famous actor after one flight, and finds herself charmed despite herself. She ignores all others and decides to end her relationship with Tim.
Well the actor it appears has done this approaching more than once, in fact he seems to have several air hostesses on the go at the same time ...
Fun and easy to read

This book started out with a lot of potential. But I feel the lead female never really developed her character. And seemed very shallow. (Which I realised was the purpose. But never quite seemed believable) progression was very slow until the last chapter in which everything happened all in one go and sort of felt like the author was bored and just wanted to finish the book. A very different writing style than the rest of it. And a bit jarring to read. But overall a light easy read. With a laid back writing style. Very informal. Something to read and not overthink.
I struggled with the writing style and the use of language in this book. The book kept jumping between the present and previous memories in a very random manner. I had expected to enjoy it more having worked in aviation my entire career.
Essentially the storyline was good but I wish it had been told in an easier to follow format. I probably wouldn't read another book by this author based on this book.
This book doesn't seem to have good ratings or reviews. There's nothing wrong with this book it's just a different style of writing. Almost like a diary of some sort. Actually, a lot like Bridget Jones' Diary with a Sex in the City dialog. The main character is easy to connect with because its like sitting with a girlfriend talking about what's going on in each others life. I really enjoyed it. I think this is the second book by Marissa Mackle that I have read and I've thoroughly enjoyed both.
This was not one of the most spectacular books I've ever read, but it was really funny.
I'm writing this review about 18 months after I read the book, and I read a lot. The fact that I remember it, and I remember it with a chuckle, speaks volumes for the book.
It was a light, funny, relaxing read. It was a bit silly and fun as well. When you're in the mood for a silly little romance, this is a great choice.
Awful. Pretty funny and promising beginning, but by the 5th chapter it started to be dreadfully boring. Nothing happens. The story is also very predictable while the writer tries too much to make her main character lovable and chirpy. Kate is basically a teen-minded flight attendant, half of the time drunk, living with her parents wishing for the perfect man.And getting drunk in between. With any occasion. The end. Good for a read on the beach or while traveling.
Was a good enough light, easy read but it was written in first person and she did babble and go off subject sometimes (more-so in the beginning) which was a wee bit annoying. But I'm glad she
I did sort of enjoy this book although I thought it dragged on a bit. The main character was a bit irritating as she didn't seem to do much but moan about everything she could. None of the other characters were particularly interesting and were fairly two-dimensional.
I did like the ending though, I thought that was a nice twist in the tale.
Not completely awful, but mediocre at best. Some funny moments, but entirely predictable. Annoying narrative style, with equally irritating protagonist. Not sure why I read it, to be honest, but I hate giving up on a book I've started, so I read to the end. Live and learn - won't be reading any more like this :-)
For some reason the review I just left didn't register.
The read served a purpose I wasn't expecting a great classic to unfold, it was light hearted. The main character was a bit annoying at times and I was pleased with the ending even though it was predictable.
Well, obviously this isn't classic literature. It was a nice, non-thinking, transition book from the Hobbit into whatever else I'm going to read. If you need a fast-paced, chick-lit break, read this book.
"The Mile High Guy" wasn't a bad book, but it isn't a great book either. Katie, the main character, is all over the place. She is weak and quite annoying in nature. The story line was cute and light, but Katie's character seemed to really drag the book down. I did enjoy the ending.
