His Ward

Rate this book
Thanks to the generosity of her guardian, Misha Turkovic, Tionne Singleton has lived a life that others only dream of. Everything good in her world, he's provided. She lives in a condo he owns, drives a car he bought, and wears clothes purchased with funds he deposits monthly into her checking account. Misha's done everything in his power to insure she wants for nothing, yet the thing she longs for most is the one thing he'll never give. Himself.

From the moment she became his ward Misha made it his life mission to protect and cherish Tionne; he has no intention of stopping now just because she's no longer a teen. Taking care of her is his pleasure, loving her his secret shame. Misha knows keeping things strictly platonic is best for all concerned, but knowing the right thing to do and doing it are two different things. Especially since Tionne seems hellbent on showing him she's not a little girl anymore.

Lena Matthews was one of the first IR authors I read and I love her books she is one of my favorite authors.

This is Misha Turkovic and Tionne Singleton's Story.

This is the story of two people who love each other but because Misha is the guardian to Tionne he does not feel he can give into his feels for her because they are inappropriate. Tionne is waiting for Misha to see her has a grown woman and not as his ward who he has to look after.

I enjoyed the read although I will agree with other readers that the cat and mouse game they played did take a while before they got together.

I loved that the book focused mainly on the couple and their feelings and thoughts about each other and did not have a lot side stories going on or other people involved. I was engaged from the first page which means it was a good read for me. Definitely worth a read!

A heat wave of sexiness!!!

It's a 3.5 in the genre of multicultural sexy romance. I liked the beliveable characters and storyline! I would recommend it to anyone who likes "clean" yet spiciness to their romance!! My rating is based on the flow of the storyline. When you have an introduction with less than 12 chapters the nifty gritty shouldn't take over half of the book making the ending somewhat incomplete.

Tionne has known Mischa since she was four years old. He came to live with her family after her father recused him. When she is orphaned Mischa becomes her guardian. As the years past they both find that they have feelings for each other but are reluctant to act on these feelings. Ms Matthews writes a very intelligently plotted book with likable characters and a sweet heat.

Even though this is a short book, it still somehow felt draggy. Misha and his denial of his feelings for Tionne became a bore real quick especially when everyone could see that he had feelings for her (except Tionne of course) and the same can be said for Tionne. The buildup to the 🔞 scene was pretty lackluster and I found another scene (I don't want to spoil it) to be hotter in comparison.

I found His Ward to gain my attention because of the characters and how they well they were developed personality wise, but I really feel cheated on story content. So many times I was left with questions that I didn’t feel were completely answered such as Misha’s need for body guards, what danger was he protecting himself and his loved ones from. I was still curious about his background and that of Tionne and her family. Things like this, if they had been expanded would have made this an awesome full length novel. Now I had to consider the fact when giving this rating, I was in love with Misha right away with his alpha, protective, loyal dominance he had over everyone and I adored his cousin Nicholi who made me smile and melt throughout the book. I was a little perturbed at Tionne in the beginning but she grew on me by the end, once she found her voice and went after what she wanted, which was Misha. So for the character development and the plot idea I was comfortable with a four star rating but because it lacked some pretty important elements for me, I had to downgrade it to a 3 but want to stress I still did enjoy the book.

We did learn that Misha came to Tionne’s family because her father rescued him when he was a starving orphan. Before her parent’s death, her father had found Misha’s family in America and made sure he was settled in with them. This is one area I wished the author would have expanded on. When Tionne was 14 she lost both of her parents and Misha came back to take care of her. He arranged the funeral plans and moved her to be with him in the states. As she got older he gave her a job, doing nothing but pushing a pencil really, a monthly deposit above her salary, an apartment, car and he controlled every aspect of her life in order to keep her safe. Once again, safe from what?

In her mid-twenties now she has decided she is tired of being the debt he is paying back to her deceased father and she is ready to give her virginity away. While dating other men she never could develop the same feelings with them as she had for him. She has loved Misha since she was a teenager but he never gave her the indication he felt the same. With the help of Nicholi she gained the confidence to see if Misha would in fact accept her invitation to become intimate with her and possibly see if they have a future together.

I found a lot of back and forth banter that did crack me up at times, but after a while I was really getting to the point of frustration. I understand Misha’s reserve in not going after her but really I needed to know more about him if it was going to make sense for that long of a time. I was frustrated with Tionne for being a “kept woman” for so long and being satisfied in that role. For me the story didn’t really take off plot wise till about 80% of the book was over. I would have no problem recommending this book to anyone who just wants a couple of hours escape and enjoyment but if you are looking for suspense and depth you might feel a bit let down. I can tell you that you will have the chance to fall in love with two very sexy and endearing men for those hours and to me that was well worth the read.

2.5 stars

While the mystery surrounding Misha and his business interests is intriguing, it wasn’t really visited in this potentially interesting but shallow novella of a young woman and the man that adores her.

Misha Turkovic’s parents had died when he was young, and he’d turned to Tionne’s father, who had taken him under his wing and helped guide him through the myriad decisions and dangerous negotiations that helped him keep his father’s business together and thriving. When Tionne’s parents had died in an accident when she was fourteen, he had taken over her care both because he loved her and because he considered it repaying a debt to her parents. Raised in luxury, Tionne has never had to doubt that she’s cared for by Misha and his cousin Nickoli. But at twenty-four, she becomes restless for her life to move on–her adult life to begin. And she wants it to be with Misha.

Misha, however, feels like he doesn’t deserve her and that he’s too old for her. Plus, he’s afraid that she doesn’t feel the same way for him. So he continues to brush off her feelings which only serves to make her angry and frustrated. When he finds out that a date had hurt her accidentally, he overreacts and causes her to do the same. She runs from him to get some space; in doing so, she makes him realize that he doesn’t ever want to do anything to make her leave him. But it also paralyzes him. He’s afraid to do anything to make her angry, which is exactly what she doesn’t want. She aches for him to come to her and take the virginity she’s been saving for him and him alone.

Thank goodness they have cousin Nickoli. He helps them overcome their differences and discover their true feelings for each other.

This book was uncomplicated with a somewhat angsty male. Which is not my favorite kind. There was so much material here that could have been used to make this so much more than it was! The whole Russian angle could have been exploited to make there be a great suspense element that would have kept us on the edge of our seats. I mean, for goodness sakes, he had bodyguards. So obviously his business was dangerous. Let us have a taste of that! Hint at what it is!

The author also didn’t make a lot of use of the physical aspects of the characters. I would have enjoyed more descriptions of Misha’s appearance and his age. There were cursory hints at him being older, but how much? There was a lot that could have been fleshed out to make the whole story more appealing. Did Tionne look like her mother? I assume Misha knew her parents. Why didn’t he pull any memories forward? There could have been so many things done to enrich the story line and make it so much more engrossing, personalized, intense and suspenseful. The potential was there, it just wasn’t used. The elements of betrayal that were in the story carried no weight with them, as there were no consequences from the actions of the betrayer. The author knows how to build a compelling outline, it just needs to be filled in better for me to enjoy it fully.

2.5 stars - I've read other books by this author so my expectations were for this book to be just as good, if not better.

Tionne and Misha played this ENDLESS game - and I mean endless and they did not hook-up until the very last chapter in the book - of cat and mouse. Misha with is whole "you're my ward and I shouldn't want to have you as much as I do" and Tionne with her "I love you so much that I got your initial tattooed on my body and why won't you notice me" was extremely exhausting. They played this game until the bitter end and only because a third party had to intervene for them to realize that they should be together.

This book wasn't bad, it was just repetitive in the fact that they both wanted each other but neither party did anything about it.

I'll definitely read other selections by this author, but this one just fell a little short for me.

Not my favorite by this author. This story was just okay. I thought it was drawn out a little too long. I did enjoy the verbal exchanges between the three main characters. The banter between Tionne and Misha were entertainig. The needling of Misha that Nickoli provided was funny. the best part of boo happened when Misha brought back a friend from his business trip.

Although the author is still on my lost of authors to read, I would recommend other books by this author over this one (like the Blacker the Berry, Head Over Heels and For Love's Sake just to m=name a few).

Meehh Ok

This read did keep my attention ,but it was a little to basic and predictable to me. However if your looking for a steamy quick alpha read ,this is it. ****SPOILERS*****
Misha is a brutal business man ,overprotective ,and sex on legs that only has eyes for his ward but of coarse he feels like it's wrong to pursue her because of their almost family connection and T is this young, spitfire ,and virginal women who pines after him but doesn't see the affects she has on him .....you can figure out the rest

Loved the chemistry from beginning to end between Misha and Tionne. The only thin I could see that would have made it better... an epilogue. Just a little taste of what happened next. All in all, a quick & good read.

Amazing!!!!!!

This was one the most well written stories that I have had the pleasure of reading, in a very long time. The romantic and forbidden aspects of it were something I enjoyed the most. Great job!!!!!!
