Even the Smallest Will Grow

Rate this book
Beloved author-illustrator Lita Judge reminds readers that even the biggest and bravest were once small...and even the smallest can become anything they choose to be.

There is strength in even
the smallest things.
Just as a bird grows
within her egg,
and a cub becomes
a brave big bear,
you too will grow.
Patience, little one.
And remember…
even the smallest will grow.

This beautiful and comforting book reassures children that the world is not too big but rather a place where there is room for everyone—and time enough to grow.

A soothing peaceful story with the theme of a little one growing into an adult. Aimed at girls, encouraging them to dream and become.
Have always loved Lita Judge’s facial illustrations of giraffes and I see one of those in this title.

A child put to bed imagines all the things that will grow - just like she will.

Oh these illustrations - the sweet baby kitten, flying on the back of a bird, the face of the baby giraffe, and cuddling with the bear - I can't remember the text, but I remember the pictures. A nice bedtime story, quiet and lyrical.

Follow a child on her whimsical, nature-inspired journey where she discovers how the world is full of living things that grow and change. Many metaphors and similes allow the reader/listener to make the connections between her/his own growth and the myriad of living, growing wonders in the world. For instance, the child grows and stretches her toes like an acorn that reaches its roots deep into the earth.

I suggest you purchase your own copy to discover all the wonderful examples that make this book sing and dance. The text is sparse but every word is like a magical celebration of growing. Lita Judge not only has a way with words, her artwork has that "aw" factor. She uses soft, warm, cozy colors along with a soothing watercolor effect that brings this story to life.

The illustrations in this book are perfectly matched to the quiet and reassuring text. Beautiful soft landscapes, idyllic attic bedrooms, dreamy, swirly, slow-motion filled, all on the theme of circles.
In the text, a young female caregiver encourages her small child to be patient about growing, and to be aware of all the strength and potential in beings that are still small. Small things are nurtured and become what they are to be.

Perfect for a bedtime story and to facilitate conversations of what your little one can be.

Highlights the beauty of nature and how different facets grow up but in time and with patience. Also, explains to a little girl how she can be anything she wants if she is patient and in time it can happen.

A little girl is compared to a world of animals that grow to do incredible things. It's a poem. It's a gentle reminder to be patient. It's a warm, dreamlike story full of animals of all shapes and sizes. This is a wonderful cozy story for bedtime for the animal lover in your life.

A story about having patience when it comes to growing, and becoming whatever it is you were meant to be. This story uses the smallest and youngest creatures as examples of how as time progresses they grow fully into themselves.

A lyrical book perfect for bedtime, this story reassures little ones that they, too, will grow up to be anything they want. Just as frogs, whales, and birds grow and become independent, so will the reader.

This book is poetry without a single rhyme. It's beautifully worded and illustrated, like all of Lita Judge's books, but this book is magical. The message is sweet, but the language and imagery are gorgeous.

maybe it's not quite a 4 star, more like 3 1/2.. it's still a nice story about how things grow. it discusses baby names for animals, tadpoles, bears, birds, trees. It's got a lot of words but it would be a nice read aloud.

Reading this quiet picture book with young children will explore tadpoles, whales, seashells, and bird's nests in Lita's illustrations about nature on the shore. Beautiful illustrations of land animals like koalas, giraffes, polar bears, and house cats.

This is a beautiful story. The mother assures the young child that, like everything and everyone around her, she will grow. It's told with a loving touch and encourages patience.

One of these "picture books for grown-ups". Nothing about this book grabbed or engaged my 9- or 7-year old.

“There is strength in even the smallest things. Just as a bird grows within her egg, and a cub becomes a brave big bear, you too will grow.”

Even the Smallest Will Grow is a hope-filled book about dreaming big. The pictures and ideas transfer seamlessly from one into the other, showing the wonders of the natural world. Through nature’s example, and evocative writing, this book invites children to consider what they’ll grow up into—and offers them the hope that they can grow into anything they want to be.

Beautiful, poetical writing accompanied by gorgeous art.
