When the Marlowes received an invitation to visit the elderly Lord Ringwood at Donnington, the whole family was agog with curiosity. For why – after all these years – should the Baron suddenly wish to become acquainted with his poor relations? It was decided to Kate’s dismay that she, being the eldest unmarried girl in the family, would accompany her father to Donnington. But all too soon Kate began to wish the invitation had never arrived. For she learnt to her horror that Lord Ringwood was intent upon a marriage of convenience, a marriage between herself and his drunken, dissolute rake of a son – Ludovic.
A good fun romp with likeable characters and a rather different plot to the usual 'misunderstandings' etc.
Squeaky clean but with sufficient tension to keep me reading. I read this book last year and for some unknown reason I didn't review it! So it was enjoyable re-reading it again today.
Unfortunately I had no choice but to deduct 2 stars because of the numerous spelling errors which made it difficult at times to follow the story, some were really peculiar
I hoped Ludovic had need more than just a drunk but they all can't be heroes. Kate did have good intentions. The book was a bit bland but still,I would read more by her.
There were a few long, drawn out, boring spots, but they were easily skipped without missing anything. Also, the story ended really abruptly. But altogether it was a decent, quick story.
I would have wished it to be longer and see them a little bit more of them after where she had ended it but I did enjoy it. perfectly well voiced and you don't feel like slapping our heroine around haha
The story wasn't too bad, but I couldn't really understand why the heroine fell for the hero - the only reason that I could see was that he was nice to her when he wasn't drunk!
