A good and readable book on the topic of baptism. Although the author went from the idea of child baptism, to the common pentecostal adult baptism, then after taking closer look ended up back in the Lutheran camp - and this book explain the theology and arguments. The crux is though, that the "evidence" or theology is not clear at all and Østerberg is not being apologetic of his view, he rather presents the views and then discusses them with a slight bias. Personally I dont think the issue is such a big one that it should change the church you attend and are a priest(but of course, it has to be part of the whole as you would not be right in baptising in a way you are not theologically agreeing with) in - but it is kind of where we are. For me, in the end, the book did little other than show that the bible say very little and the idea of Child baptism is a later theological addon when the church started growing and it became an issue to consider - and then it solidified. Today it is something everyone does even if they do not believe, and that is wrong - and defeats the purpose of the biblical and early Chrisitan idea. One thing we cannot go wrong on is in the belief that adult first time baptism is always good.
