From Great Grandmothers to Great Granddaughters: the stories of six Chinese Australian women

Rate this book
In 2005, the Chinese Australian Historical Society Inc (CAHS) held a symposium entitled 'Great Grandmothers to Great Granddaughters: The Transformation of Chinese Australian Women', which inspired editor Nikki Loong to begin documenting oral histories as provided by its participants. This book is the first step in that documentation process.

"From Great Grandmothers to Great Granddaughters" is an insight into the experiences of Chinese women and their families, as remembered by women born in China as far back as the 1800s, and their descendants born in Australia as recently as 1985, highlighting the political, cultural, social and educational change that has affected their lives along the way.

As a Chinese Australian woman myself who has reached mid-thirties and looks back upon some pretty intense memories of the swing between acceptance and non-acceptance by Australian society of me as a "halfie", I find this documentation of Chinese generations before my own (and my father's) fascinating.
