I have to say, I don't know whether I love or hate Lola St.Vil. Her books have the power to lift you up and make you lol and a couple of pages later, your heart has stopped and you feel totally bereft. What I will say though, is never NEVER get attached to a character because absolutely no-one is safe!!!
Book 2 takes place over a period of about a week. It begins with Ruin making a startling self discovery and we learn that the Kasters have captured someone high ranking. They are willing to exchange the prisoner for something else they want but the angels only have 3 days to yield. If the angels fail to give them what they want, the Kasters will kill the prisoner. As with the Guardians, there are love triangles in which hearts will be broken but despite the angst, the team will remain loyal to each other and their calling. Randy is still the superhero and sci-fi nerd (a bit like my little brother!) whilst Pryor is her parents' daughter. She's tough when she needs to be, has great leadership qualities but at the same time, is still very much a teenager when it comes to matters of the heart.
Aaden, for his part, is in the unenviable position that comes from being half angel and half demon. He gets up to mischief as one would expect a demon to do but his angel half always causes him to stop short of hurting humans or put them at risk of harm in any way which is a constant bane in Ruin's life because it spoils her fun. We learn more about the year Aaden spent away from the team, especially about The Centre although we are still left none the wiser.
We meet the four elements for the first time and the team take part in a major battle.... the first of many I hope. We get to meet Malakaro and I do believe he's actually more evil than his mother and the race is on to find stop Malakaro from finding the five vials he needs to make him all powerful.
As is usual, the twists and turns are plentiful and I never know whether to read the books quickly to slake my thirst or slowly so I can savour them. My favourite line in the book? “Damn it, where the fuck did he get that shit from?” I bet you can't read it without laughing!
I know you need a holiday Lola but hurry up and write book 3..... pretty please.
As all the other books in this series, is it a bit violent and has some "adult" content. Nevertheless, I liked this book deeply.
This was the second book in the Noru series, which comes after the Guardian series. In this book, the Kasters, or the evil team from Malakaro, an evil man found a very special person. They will kill him if a deal is not done with the Noru. Apparently, it is Rage, Silver's dad. Diana, aka Ruin, a Kaster has found love with Silver, or Ayden. Ruin is trying to convince Silver to join the dark side because he is half demon and half angel. She says that even if he is half angel, he's still a demon. (That's just weird because even if he's a demon he's an angel too >_>) But a love triangle forms as Silver falls for Pryor, the Noru leader. As the Noru's parents are still stuck in the Light, it's up to Pryor and her team to get Uncle Rage back and safe. As Ruin spends more time with Silver, she begins to get a little good in her. Malakaro sees this and therefore punishes her by possessing her and forcing her to rip off my wings on a tall building. Pryor is heart-wretched as she sees Silver and Ruin together, but she doesn't know that Silver went to jail, or Bliss, and can not have feelings for her because it will harm him. Sam, Pryor's brother is already dead because of evil forces and Uncle Rage is still trapped in this dangerous place that Angels usually don't get out of.
As these events take place, I loved how there was so much emotion and tension in each chapter, as well as some humor. (This is not exactly appropriate but) When the teachers in Silver's school reports that he had been cursing, Rage had said, "Damn, where'd he get that s** from?" It was a little laugh and over all makes the book mixed with many emotions. It's like opening a book to get a sucker punch, except that punch is a punch of humor, sadness, and plain irony.
No matter how much I love the guardian series I can't read this. It's so blah. It's the same book just a few words mixed around. I'm tired of authors using the same guideline for a whole series. Give me something original. Yes silver did not give up his rah but he still is being kept from the object of his affection. The love triangles , the secrets, and wanting to save people even though rio died for it in the last series. It's the same book. I'm so mad right now. I again listened to other reviews and wanted to know what happened to rage. I don't think I will be reading the next book.
I love Lola's books they can make me upset very easy I never wanted to kill a character of a book before but wow!! she made me want to kill a character in a book. Keep writing Lola you're amazing
pretty good. laying the drama down thick but pretty good. (spoilers)
I'm actually excited to read the next one. I'm kinda pissed off that Aaden won't just tell Pryor what's going on. I know she'd charge like a knight in shining armor for the daughter of death... hint, hint) and take out the center, but still. the whole 'I love you but we can't be together and I can't tell you why' is kinda starting to get old. The crap with Diana is OK I guess. but it'll get old eventually. and the crap with Bex hasn't even started and I can already tell I'll hate it. but all in all I really enjoyed the story. my favorite quote from the book is on page 186 (I believe) and goes something like this "on my first day of school, I got in trouble . My teacher called my dad and said, 'Mr. Case, your son was caught cursing in class.' My dad replied, "Damn it, where the fuck did you get that shit from?"" I laughed so hard. I love it. Rage was my second favorite character in the Guardians. I'm glad he's just as awesome still. the characters in this one are actually pretty good and the storyline is too. the editing errors are still throwing me off though so that's something I'm coping with.
GAH this book was filled with tension and tragedy and romance and tears I nearly died. It's exactly what I expected though, so the heartache and tears were justified. Can't wait to start the third one because this book ended on the motherload of all cliffhangers.
I won't waste time with a recap of the book. It's a well written story with characters you either like, dislike, or would rather have a chance to stomp on their big toe or hit upside the head. What stopped me from enjoying it completely was the age of the protagonist. She's a fourteen year-old (on the cusp of fifteen), who's the youngest of a team of Norus, as well as their leader. She also happens to be in love with one of her teammates who's older than she is. (He's slept around a lot, so you know that he's a bit more "seasoned". ) It may be a personal preference, but I dislike the sexuality between the two due to the age difference. I didn't care to read about them "getting it on" and found myself skipping over that. Otherwise, it was a good book. Will I read the next one...? I have no choice. My OCD demands that I finish the series now that I'm invested.
Oh the endings! I think St. Vil is trying to kill me. I'm really happy to see we got answers on what happened to Aaden. The twist with Ruin is really interesting, wondering how the rah contract will play out. The only really unfortunate thing is this series reads so much like The Guardians. Pryor has all the girl emotions and heartbreak of Emmy and the leadership decisions of Marcus. The team has a rigid member, a care free one, a wild card and teenage angst. I really hope something sets this series apart in the third book.
Another awesome book. I love this series and read through it quite quickly. I had to hold my tong at the end though to stop myself from swearing out loud in work. But yes I loved this book and again can't wait for the next one. I don't like not knowing what's going to happen and I seem to not be the only one.
This series is one of the best series of books ive ever read! I felt so much emotion from happiness, to sadness and excitement! Absolutely pive the characters all of them! Great storyline and very well written well worth reading! Cant wait for the next one! Just as good as the first, as soon as I read the first I knew I had to read the rest!
I really enjoyed this book. I love the strength of the heroine. The storyline is interesting and so easy to immerse yourself into. I couldn't put it down! Now I can't wait till the next one comes out.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of Lola's book, I'm absolutely in love!!!! I read the book in less than a day! It was SO fabulous! I want the third one to come out!!!
The team does sneak into the forest and are able to rescue Rage but s ed verbal members are injured and require healing. Things seem better now that everyone is healed but new problems arise.
Ruin... She's something else- not sure I like her or not. Some major bombs are dropped but still a lot of unanswered questions, like what's up with Bex? What is The Center? What happened there? Who's pulling the strings? Who is on the council and withholding info? And Malakaro?
The book had a really brilliant and my kind of perfect storyline. But I can't stand the writing style! :( It was like a high school essay. What a shame.
