This book was amazing! And maybe a little devastating in some areas. Both me and my brother were in tears when the "phone call" came. I can't say anymore than that otherwise it will spoil, but it was awful. 😭 100% recommend reading this book!

This book had me Flabbergasted, out of the books I read from the 2024 Class of Kids Write Novels this one is the best. I opened it only knowing the title. I had not touched the blurb, or even flipped a page. The plot is original painful and filled with hope. The characters are brilliant and easy to distinguish. Aster and Jadon make up the 5th best romance I have ever read(that is being generous to Connilyn Cossette) And the biggest plot twist had me in tears. I was up 6 hours past bedtime flipping pages. This one spoke to me in huge ways and impacted me to make a fairly large decision. As a teen, that kind of empowerment is rare. I am going to read it again. The only errors I noticed in the story were spelling and the occasional format or grammatical error.

I still cant bring myself to rate it lower than 5 stars. It reminds me of Kilmeny of the orchard in which I know that there are things that are done in a way that isn't always the most direct to what folks say how a story should be. But it captures my heart and imagination.

The biggest issues were with pacing and plot twist foreshadowing. Actually, the two went hand in hand. The plot twists, at least a lot of them were very abrupt, not much money put on them yet. They hadn't quite existed.

What I cannot figure out for the life of me is why they still felt natural and accurate to the story despite their being such a noticeable gap. Like literally they still felt like they fit perfectly and felt reasonable to the previous plot.

Im still at the point where, if I were a publisher I would pick it up, like you see in all the comments I made on the story there, that there are things I would firm up and add to. But ultimately you have a diamond in the rough. SUPER HYPED FOR BOOK TWO.

In Overview. My heart still melted. I still cried. Same story, same effect. Same everything. I was just more attentive to the writing this time.
