I think this is an interesting book, with a cool plot and a lot of potential. But, in the end it just didn’t end up wowing me the way I was expecting!

The story overall is fine! But really I didn’t feel particularly captivated by it, or excited to see what happened next. I felt very neutral about it for the most part.
I think a lot of this comes down to the writing style. It’s not upbeat and fun, but it also isn’t deep and moody.
It lands somewhere in the middle, making it more basic and a tad bit bland.

This pretty much describes how I felt about the main character as well.
I didn’t really feel like Olivia had much of a standout personality, or an energy that made me feel invested in her life.
In stories like this, it’s always nice to have someone that you’re really rooting for them to get their happy ending. Which unfortunately I just didn’t really get!

I do however really like the plot as a whole.
The idea of everyone getting emailed their soulmate, and looking at how it would impact the world, what we know to be “love” and how it would change active relationships and people’s perspective on so many things.
That’s incredibly interesting to me, and I think it was a fantastic idea for a story!

Thank you to Netgalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing and author Joan F. Smith, for providing me with the eARC of “Your Soulmail is attached”, in exchange for my honest review!

I totally enjoyed reading this one, although, I have to say… the theory behind it reminded me so much of a book I read a few years ago… (The Measure, by Nikki Erlick)… although the storyline was completely different.. the delivery of news was in a very similar fashion…

Olivia works for a news station… but does not broadcast or anchor for them. She’s more in the background. She is engaged to Wells, her wealthy fiancé, and he’s ok… and they’re just going along… day by day.. planning for their upcoming wedding.

One night, she can’t sleep, and she hears his phone buzzing. When she looks, she sees a text from another woman, and realizes that he is cheating on her! 🤨.
At the same time, her phone starts ringing… which is very weird, as she has a crazy way that you have to call her to make it ring…. AND, it’s after 3am!! Even crazier is that the big boss is telling her to GET READY…RIGHT NOW…You’re going on the air. Something big is happening, and you will have to be the face of it for us….

She confronts Wells, who tries to deny it at first, and then finally admits it. But she has no time to even fight it out with him… she has to go, right now!

She grabs a car to get to work (they sent one for her) and another woman is in it, as well as the driver. She finds out that something called “Soulmail” has been sent out! Everyone in the world, who is considered an adult, has received an email. All at the same time! And each and every one of them tells you WHO your SOULMATE is!
She can’t even believe this! So she’s talking to the other woman, someone she knows from the station, and asks if she’s opened hers. She opens it and says she has no idea WHO the person is that’s listed. (Olivia is recording this…) but she says the name. The driver turns around and repeats the name…. Then he opens his and says a name. It’s hers! And hers was his name!! 😮🧐😮

She goes on air, and fumbles a bit, but finds out that the audiences all LOVED her, as she was real… and not so polished… and human…. And so, the station keeps her on, and kind of promotes her. They want her to continue working around the Soulmail angle. But does she believe this? She doesn’t even want to open hers!

Wells is determined to work it out with her… he’s willing to do anything… he says.
He also opens his Soulmail and tells her that she is it! They HAVE to stay together.
She is reluctant, but agrees to give him another chance.

In the meantime, she has met up with her old friend Caleb! And they’ve been talking and catching up! Does she have feelings for him? But no. That can’t be… she’s going to marry Wells. After all, he IS her soulmate…

Once again this really makes you see just how much we rely on our phones and computers and AI for just about everything now! And how something as simple as an email might just change YOUR WHOLE LIFE! How scary is that??

Loved this one! 4 bold, strong, friends-and-family-are-what-it’s-all-about stars for me!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for a gifted alc of Your Soulmail is attached. This is my personal review.

Your Soulmail Is Attached by Joan F. Smith took me by surprise. I shamefully judges books by their covers...a lot. And this one really didn't jump out at me. But the premise was intriguing so I figured that I'd at least give it a try. One of the best decisions I've made recently! This was great and has sent me on a course to read everything and anything by Smith.

The story is contemporary with magical realism in a world where everyone, once of age, receives an email with the name of their soulmate. Olivia Adler works for a news station and, immediately after breaking up with her cheating fiance, ends up having to fill in as an anchor as the world explodes over Soulmail. Olivia soon becomes the face of Soulmail and she's suddenly thrust into a life that she never asked for and isn't even sure that she wants. And with her fiance refusing to move on and an old best friend and first love now living in NYC, Olivia has a lot of choices to make. Even though her fate has already been determined, right?

-magical realism
-second chance
-friends to lovers
-fated mates

This is one of the most creative and unique books I've read recently. The idea of soulmail sounded a little cheesy, but Smith pulled me in and I was trying to grapple with my own feelings around Soulmail just as Liv was. There is the surface level story of Olivia trying to navigate her life in a new world, but there's also another in-depth conversation to be had around the morals and ethics of this new world. How would everyone knowing their soulmate really change the world? Smith addressed this well and gave me a lot more to think about than just an entertaining story.

This also kept me guessing right up until the end! I kept going back and forth on what I thought would happen, and also what I wanted to happen. That's always the sign of a good book for me. And the ending was absolutely perfect.

This book gripped me from the very beginning. Everyone in the world receives a soul mail (via email, text, telegram) on the same day at the exact same time with the name and birthday of their soul mate. Who sent them? Is it correct? A few chilling stories prove them to be true. What follows for Olivia is an immediate rise to on-air talent due to honest approach to covering SoulMail, a critical decision regarding her upcoming to wealthy Wells and a reunion with her childhood BFF Caleb.

This is not a rom-com but a fascinating study into What If. It was the perfect book for Book Club.

Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins Harlequin Audio and Joan F. Smith for this early audiobook. The following is my honest review.
For a book about a global “soulmate reveal” email dropping at the same time for everyone and the social, global, relationship fallout this felt weirdly surface level. Nothing felt explored in a meaningful way. The story would almost brush up against something interesting but then back away.
Even while the structure or framing of the story had this oddly heavy, almost dystopian framing around Soulmail (government involvement, ominous tone even a comparison “where were you when 9/11” which felt kinda jarring and uncomfy. The stakes the book tells us to feel didn’t match the actual emotional depth on the page.
I didn’t connect with any of the characters and nothing about their relationships or decisions felt especially compelling or developed.
I listened to the audiobook ARC and while the narration was solid it can’t elevate a story that doesn’t dig into its own ideas or fully commit to them.

Olivia Adler's life is almost perfect: she's about to marry her wealthy fiance, she has a great best friend, and is hoping that one day she'll get a chance to produce the kinds of documentaries she went to college to study. But her life is turned upside down when she wakes up to find that her fiance has cheated on her and that she's been called into the TV news show that she writes for to fill in for the usual anchors because every adult in the world has received an email telling them who their soulmate is. In the months that follow, Olivia finds herself the new face of the "Soulmail" phenomenon, reconnects with a childhood friend, and has to figure out whether she can forgive her cheating fiance. All while choosing to not open her own Soulmail.

I thought this was a clever twist on the "everyone receives the same information across the world" subgenre of speculative fiction. If you're someone who enjoys romance stories and liked a book like THE MEASURE, I think you'll enjoy this.

Your Soulmail is Attached by Joanna F. Smith delivers such a fascinating, high concept premise that instantly pulls you in—what if everyone in the world discovered their soulmate at the exact same time? The story leans into that question in a way that feels both expansive and surprisingly grounded, exploring not just romantic connections but platonic and familial soulmates as well. That added layer made the concept feel richer and more thought provoking than expected, raising questions about destiny, choice, and the different forms love can take. Watching Olivia navigate the emotional fallout, both personal and very public, added a compelling human core to such a big, speculative idea.

The audiobook experience elevates it even further, thanks to Mia Hutchinson-Shaw who truly brings Olivia to life. She captures every nuance of Olivia’s emotional journey—from heartbreak and confusion to curiosity and quiet resilience—with so much authenticity. It made the internal conflict hit harder and the overall story feel more immersive. This is one of those reads that feels like pure escapism while still staying emotionally grounded, blending speculative fiction with real, relatable struggles in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

Speculative fiction is outside of my normal genres, but I had a good time reading Your Soulmail is Attached.

Overnight, people around the world receive an email revealing the name and birthdate of their soulmate. Everything changes and FMC Olivia becomes the unexpected face of the aftermath, sharing the story on social media and TV news.

The reveal poses interesting questions: Would you open yours? What happens if it’s not who you thought it would be? What if it’s a platonic soulmate? What if they haven’t been born or have already died?

I’ll be thinking about this one for a while! Also, I both love and hate that we don’t find out the origins of the emails… 🤔

3.25 stars. The premise was definitely cooler than the actual story. However, I did enjoy my time with this book. I read it all in a day since it was pretty short. ✨mysterious email with soulmates
✨chick-lit
✨work-a-holic mfc
✨rise to stardom
✨open door but very vague descriptions

Would you want confirmation that your partner is your soulmate? Well, that email that was sent out at 3am will tell you. You just have to open it and find out.
Olive does not really want to open her email. Right as the emails were being sent out, she finds out that her fiancé has been cheating on her. (oh, whoops, totally a one thing/didn't mean anything/ he's so sorry) Olive does not want to deal with anything else right now. She recorded two of her coworkers finding out that they were each other's soulmates and posted it online. Now her followers are skyrocketing and she’s being put on for anchor in this breaking news. So, while her career seems to be taking off (not in the direction she planned, but it’s totally fine, right?), she has found a reconnection to her childhood best friend, Caleb. Caleb who was her first everything. The worst thing though? Her ex-fiancé, Wells, just can't get the hint that she’s done with him. SO, Wells shows her his soulmail email, and it has HER NAME listed.
I did enjoy the most of this book. It reads and feels more like a woman's literature than a romance book. I enjoyed how stupid fiancé was and how much everyone disliked him. I did not see the twist coming. I wish that there was more between Olive and Caleb. It was too much of saying that Olive had feelings for that guy instead of showing why. They just felt the connection and that was it. Olive and her character growth was important, and she did become a better version of herself. But, if you’re like me, expecting a childhood friend reconnecting romance, either change expectations or go elsewhere.

Thank you so much to Netgalley for this ALC and E-ARC!

This book was such a interesting change of pace for me, because I thought it was going to lean more romance, but it leaning more general fiction was actually a really nice surprise. The concept of everyone being told who their soulmate is randomly and having to navigate the different changes that would bring never actually ocurred to me- so it made this extremely interesting to follow. The way it would make people have to live differently, Dating apps would almost become obsolete, there would have to be things for people who maybe didnt care to know who their soulmate was in general....like it was such a interesting concept.

I won't lie though this book did lose me a couple times, and took me a lil bit to read/listen to only because it genuinely wasnt what i thought it was going to be although a nice surprise. My mood reading was kind of kicking my butt when it came to really focusing on just this book. Overall, this was interesting and once it finally picked up I was locked in on it and able to finish. However I do wish the concept of soulmail was more the focus- and how it impacted our FMC and less about the news and her job.

What if your destiny was just one email away?

I thought this was as a cute, fun, interesting read.

The book is like the title. People receiving a email who their soulmate is. The world changed over night with the emails.

What if you were with someone who you thought was your soulmate and you received this email, who you are supposed to be with? Would you open it? If you did and it was someone else, would you end your relationship with who you are currently with? Hmmm!!!

Listening to the audio book really pulls you in. Narrator Mia Hutchinson-Shaw does so will with Olivia’s character.

Olivia's life is perfect. A job she loves in a newsroom. A fiancé she adores. Until one text message destroys it all. Followed by an anonymous global email sent to everyone giving everyone the name and birthday of their soulmate. But Olivia is set on not opening her email. She wants to make her own choices, not fate. Suddenly thrust into the spotlight and rapidly becoming the face of Soulmail, Olivia has some big decisions to make.

If you could find out who your soulmate is, just my opening an anonymously sent email, would you? Your soulmate might not be who you think it is.

Overall, I adored this one. It was a unique concept with multiple twists.

What a unique story about the long standing concept of soulmates!

Can you imagine getting an email getting the same time as everyone else in the world listing who your soulmate is? Not even necessarily in a romantic sense, but just someone the universe says it meant to be in your life. Listening to Olivia navigate life and tracking how Soulmail impacted everyone else was so well done. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story from start to finish.

Mia Hutchinson-Shaw was a wonderful narrator for this story. She truly helped bring characters to life.

This book was a lot of fun and I really loved the overall premise! It felt like a rom-com version of The Morning Show. However, I was hoping for a bit more romance between Olivia and Caleb in the story itself; although I guess this book isn’t technically marketed as a romance novel! I also think that’s probably why the middle chunk of the story felt so slow paced for me. I just wanted to jump into the romance/HEA for our characters instead of focusing on the rest of the storyline. I also was expecting more from “the big reveal” as opposed to the plot twist that actually happened. Overall, I think it was still a good story that a lot of people will love!

Content Warning: cheating

World Building: Set in present day and an email was sent out to everyone telling them who their soulmate is. Olivia is someone who works for a news station but usually behind the scenes until the night the emails went public and they needed an emergency news anchor. This news has caused chaos in the streets, people are happy, sad, angry, breaking up, getting together and Olivia who is just going through a break up herself, decides not to look at her email. Throughout the story, Olivia does some investigative reports to find out, are these soulmails real? Are their predictions real?

Character: Olivia is someone who’s had to work through life to get where she is, and this opportunity propels her into fame she didn’t know she wanted. She’s also dealing with the break-up with her fiance and trying to deal with the fall-out of that. I like Olivia but there were so many moments where I thought she could have come clean to people about her break-up, but because of her new status at her job, she’s afraid to cause any drama. I did love her relationship with her best-friend Natalie. And someone from her past comes back into her life, Caleb, her childhood ex-best friend – they had a falling in high school when he leaves for college. It was nice to see them rekindle their friendship and see it maybe grow into something so much more.

Romance: The romance is a second chance romance with her ex-childhood friend but I didn’t feel like it was the main focus of this story. I thought the question about soul mates and if you want to know who your soulmate was, made Olivia and Caleb question a lot of things about their feelings. But I liked how things unfolded for them.

Story: Would you like to know who your soulmate is – if you could? What I like about the soulmate discussion in this story is that not everyone had a romantic soulmate. I love that it could very important people in your life like your mom, best friend, or even a future child. So even though we follow Olivia’s romance story, there are tons of people out there who Olivia come in contact with that have non-romantic soulmates. A lot of the story is also about her career path, and though the beginning started off strong, I thought there was some spots in the story that was slow. But I think it finishes off strong.

Vibes: Definitely more speculative fiction than romance.

Final Thoughts:

I was really intrigued with the concept of this story and I thought the author did a great job showing scenarios of what could happen if an event like this actually took place. And the story brings up so many questions like would you open the email to know who your soulmate is? I did wish there was more romance because I’m a romance reader, but that’s not what this story is about. There were some parts I did find slow but overall, I still enjoyed seeing Olivia and people around her navigate this historic event.

Read if you like:

second chance romance
speculative fiction

What can I say about this book? As described below, this book is about people receiving information about who their soulmate is. The world is changed overnight. It isn't a hoax, it isn't traceable. The whole concept of a soulmate and of there being one person out there for you is so mindblowing and unbelievable as it is. Then there is the question of what a soulmate is. The author, Joan F. Smith, must have done a lot of research. I had a very narrow description of what I considered a soulmate to be. Reading different takes on what a soulmate could be, reading how knowing could potentially be both good and bad for a population. It was so very interesting. I found myself going back and forth about how I would feel about knowing, if I would want to know, and what if I didn't like the information I was given? This made the book very interesting to me.
The FMC Olivia is thrust into the limelight as she accidentally becomes a viral sensation, and all of a sudden, all eyes are on her and her reports about Soulmail. Olivia doesn't want to know who her soulmate is. She's faced with many obstacles in navigating this new life and new world. I didn't agree with much of what she did but I could see what drove her to make the choices she made. Her character and history are complex. Navigating a world where information like this is out there is so new and nuanced. Smith did a wonderful job with this engaging, interesting romance that is so much more. Such a unique way to write about soulmates.

One message on Wells’s phone shatters her engagement.

A second message—an anonymous global email quickly dubbed Soulmail—shakes the world.

Before even opening this book, the premise demands that you stop and ask yourself a question: if an anonymous email arrived in your inbox revealing the name and birthdate of your soulmate, would you open it? Would you pursue a relationship with someone — a stranger, potentially on the other side of the world — based solely on a name delivered by an email of unknown origin? Could you trust it? Could you ignore it? The fact that this question sparked genuine debate among friends before a single page was turned is perhaps the best endorsement the book's central conceit could have.
Joan F. Smith's debut adult novel earns high marks for exactly that premise and for her ability to sustain its emotional and philosophical resonance throughout. Your Soulmail Is Attached is less a romance than an experiment in social psychology — an exploration of fate versus free will, of whether knowing changes choosing, and of what we owe ourselves versus what we owe the idea of destiny. From that perspective, the book is genuinely compelling and thought provoking in ways that linger well beyond the last page.
What keeps it from being a fully satisfying read are specific and worth naming. The book drags in the middle, losing momentum in a way that tests the reader's patience. The Olivia and Wells storyline — her ex-fiancé insisting she is his soulmate after she has already caught him cheating — never generates the tension it should, partly because the dynamic is fundamentally uninteresting and partly because it strains credibility that any woman in Olivia's position would give his claim a moment's serious consideration. The book needs that tension to work, but it tries to manufacture it from the wrong source.
The global reaction to Soulmail also feels underdeveloped in ways that undermine the premise's own ambition. The president addresses the nation within hours of the email's arrival, airports cancel flights, people begin hoarding food — all of which assumes a speed and uniformity of reaction that doesn't quite hold up to scrutiny. More importantly, the book largely confines itself to an American perspective, which is a significant missed opportunity. If your soulmate could be anyone on earth — and the email went to everyone on earth simultaneously — the global implications are staggering and largely unexplored. That is exactly the terrain the premise invites and the book declines to fully enter.
Still, a 4 star read — rounded up from a well-earned 3.5 — for a premise that provokes genuine conversation, a central question that stays with you, and a debut novelist who is clearly thinking about something more interesting than the average romance. When the book trusts its own ideas, it shines. It just needs to trust them more consistently.

Reviewed at Happily Ever After Romance

Your Soulmail is Attached is a standalone, speculative fiction novel with a fascinating premise… one that actually will have you pause and rethink what “you” define as a “soulmate”.

I believe everything you could possibly want to know before picking up this title is in the Cover Description… unless you want spoilers, which I try very hard not to do. The idea that every adult person on the entire planet received an email at the exact same time is, frankly, kind of chilling. Olivia had no idea that her world was about to be upended on two fronts in the wee hours of the morning. A sleepless night left her awake when a message came in on her fiancé’s phone. The scumbag is cheating on her! And she’s seen the proof. Moments later, an email comes in, one that she hasn’t opened, being distracted by a call from her boss at the newsroom telling her to get to the station… now.

Life, as practically everyone on the planet has known it for eons, is changing with the release of those global emails. And Olivia will end up as the face of this phenomenon, reporting on developments while steadfastly refusing to open her own. A childhood friend (and a young love/crush) comes back into her life just as her cheating fiancé is trying to convince her to give them a second chance because he “has” read the soulmail, or so he says.

Your Soulmail is Attached is intriguing, a complete “what if” and “how would I react” kind of story. While speculative fiction is not my first choice, and there is actually little romance in this story, the idea behind it fascinated me. I enjoyed the story, although it left me with questions that remain unanswered. Yet, I also understand why that would be possible in this type of story. If there was ever a story that lingered long after the final page… for reasons that are not usual for me, then this one is it. If you can set aside your knowledge of “reality” to accept a strange phenomenon that is handing your fate to you unasked, then you’d enjoy this one.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

What would you do if you received an anonymous email telling you who your soulmate is? That's the question everyone in this world asked themselves when they found soulmail in their inbox.

This tale was told from the perspective of Olivia who was propelled from behind the scenes to in front of the camera when filling in as news program host at the last minute. This instant fame accompanied discovering her fiancé was having an affair. While her personal and professional worlds were changing, so was the world at large. The soulmate emails were infiltrating all areas of life, and it became Olivia's job to report on it.

The concept of this book reminded me of several I have read, most notably, The Measure. Your Soulmail Is Attached leaned a bit lighter as pondering the idea of a soulmate is not as heavy as how long you will live, but it was interesting to think about how people dealt with access to this information. Did they want to know? How would it affect their current relationships? What would be considered a soulmate? How would dating and marriage change? I thought Smith did a great job looking at this from all different angles. This made up most of the first part of the book.

I felt like the book switched gears at one point and began to focus more on Olivia. The story felt a little different. Not bad, just different. Olivia found herself in quite a situation, and she had many big decisions to make. There were aspects that made things difficult for her, but I was crossing my fingers that she would make the right choices all along.

Overall: Your Soulmail Is Attached was an interesting and thought provoking exploration of the idea of soulmates and how having access to this information could affect one's life.

One day everyone on earth over 18 receives an email telling them the name and birthdate of their soulmate.
Everyone is surprised and no one is aware what changes this will create all over the world. Oliva is a researcher working at a nationwide television network and since the two anchors are out of town, the powers at the network put Olivia on air to talk about the phenomena. Because it’s apparent that she is nervous and untrained at news reporting – every in the United States takes an interest in her. Because the idea of soulmail is so perplexing to everyone, having someone report on it that is equally confused, makes everyone feel better. What they don’t know is that her long engagement to the love of her life had just imploded right before she went on the air so she has to deal with upheaval in the world and in her own life at the same time.

Soulmail changes the world. Some people leave their marriages to be with their soulmate while others refuse to open their email. Soon the government gets involved trying to solve the puzzle and everyone is talking about nothing else. People’s lives change – for the better at first while everyone is searching for the soulmate that was written in their email. Some of the soulmates are not romantic – a mother or a best friend but no matter the connection, there is a major emotional change in the entire world.

While Olivia is navigating her new job and the changes in the world, she connects with her best friend growing up. She had always had a major crush on him but when he left for college, he ghosted her. At the same time, her former fiancé is trying to work things out with her with her. Her best friend is her only saving grace on some of the tough days she goes through. When she finds out who her soulmate is, she has to make a decision to be with her soulmate or follow her heart.

This book is cute and interesting but didn’t keep my interest for the entire book. I really don’t like speculative fiction and had some problems with the basic premise of the plot. However, if you can detach from reality and enjoy books like this, you’re going to love it!

One simple night, Olivia didn't take her melatonin, so she happens to be awake when the news story of a lifetime happens, everybody in the world gets an email with the name and birth date of their soulmate, she is background person on a new show who is thrust into the anchor chair. To report on the story live,- she is literally whisked from her house. 12 live broadcast and it's people love her. They want her to report on everybody getting. What is then no one as soulmail- the same night that all this happened she learned her fiance, Ihad cheated on her, she is done with him, with her newfound fame, an old friend from growing up, popped into her messages one who she's never stopped thinking about. Olivia has vowed never to open her soulmail -- well, she tells the stories on the news about people leaving their spouses and seeking out their soulmates, other people, whose Soulmates may not even be a romantic interest. Could it be their best friends? It could be, their child could be their parent it starts to become overwhelming- her ex fiance is not giving up - he plays on the soulmail to try to get her back- and there is alot there to unpack, it's an interesting book, it really makes you think of the implications. If you believe in Soulmates, if you do, you do would really want to know who your soulmate is, would you blow up your life? If it turned out that yours wasn't your partner. I didn't think the ending was great. I would have liked that cleaned up a little bit more and I do wish that Olivia would have had a little bit more of a backbone. She was a little bit wishy washy she does have some trauma from when she was younger. That's discussed with her parents. The room, sir. That is part of it. But I felt that we were almost in 2 Olivia's, and so I just wish she was a little bit written stronger. But like I said, it really makes you think about the idea of a soulmate. And if you would want to know

Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁:

This was an interesting read that makes you think: what if and I love those kind of books. I always have been intrigued by the idea of soulmates, this story explores this idea in a fun and creative way. It’s so interesting to see how the world reacts to such a big event. I was sucked in from the first page and I binge read this in one sitting. There is definitely some romance in this story but I love how this story zoomed out a bit and focused on so much more: like huge life changing choices and how we navigate those pivotal moments.

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:

Olivia’s life changed overnight with a mass email that was sent out to the world, announcing to everyone over 18 who their soulmate was. She went from a behind the scenes newsroom reporter to being thrust into the spotlight covering one of the biggest news events in history. The idea of love was wiped out and rewritten overnight by this “soulmail”. People were faced with new life changing decisions. With millions watching her every move Olivia became the face of it all.

However Olivia, refuses to open her soulmail email. As the night her email was delivered she discovered her fiancé was cheating on her. And she will not let fate take her choice from her. Then she crosses paths with her childhood best friend, the boy who got away. As they spend more time together she is really torn between what the heart wants and what fate states it should be.

𝙁𝙖𝙫 𝙌𝙪𝙤𝙩𝙚:

“I didn’t realize I was looking for something until I’d spotted you…It’s like I don’t feel totally whole unless I know where you are.”

After reading two similar books on predictions, Your Soulmail is Attached sounded like a more fun and upbeat version of this what-if genre. I enjoyed learning how the predictions were delivered and how the lives of the side characters, such as Josef, were affected. It was interesting to learn about the positive and often tragic results from the letters. The premise of the book was engaging, but the writing style turned me off.

Most of the novel felt like a high school writing assignment in which the author had a word quota to meet. The superfluous words, sentences, and paragraphs were distracting and annoying. For example, the author detailed how the HVAC system pushed filtered air into the workspace and yet the monitor was coated with dust. Those details between the coworker asking Olivia how she was and Olivia answering were unnecessary. The description of the cracked sidewalk and the workers in the area distracted from an important and honest conversation between the main characters.

The metaphors were exaggerated to the point of being silly. Examples:
“The card’s corners were sharp enough to cut dreams.”
“…I ran the risk of emotionally dissolving like the spiderweb filaments in the corners of my childhood bedroom.”

There were some decent parts of the story that showed the promise of real emotion and connection with the characters, but they were too few. Sadly, most of the characters were bland and not likable. It is a personal preference, but I disliked how cavalier Olivia and Natalie were with their bodies. The possibility of an unplanned pregnancy was so high that they had a “stock of pregnancy tests.” For me, this detail called into question whether they felt emotional connections to the men in their lives. Too much time was spent on excess details and not enough emotion shown by the characters to become invested in them.

I’m thankful to HarperCollins and NetGalley for this free advanced reader’s copy in exchange for my honest feedback.

4.5⭐️ This one was so much fun! I absolutely LOVED the premise - what would you do if you, and every other person on the planet, received an email with the name and date of birth of your soul mate? We got to follow the story of one of those recipients, Olivia, who just happens to work for a TV station, and thanks to a series of things, she is thrust into the position of on-air host to discuss the world-wide chaos of "Soulmail." Unfortunately for Olivia, her own relationship turned out to be not quite what she thought it was - literally in the moment the emails were going out. She then has to deal with not only her personal life imploding, but her professional life exploding, all while someone from her past just happens to pop back into her life.

This speculative fiction has all the ingredients for a hilarious rom-com that will give you all the feels, and leave you thinking about you think a soulmate really is, as it doesn't just focus on the romantic type of soul-mate. We hear about parents and children, friendships, and more - both heartbreaking and heartwarming, as the question arises, does it even matter? Would YOU open yours? Should we let an email decide our fate, or take it into our own hands? I laughed, I cried, I devoured this one so quick! Olivia was so relatable, though I definitely think she was written too strong to have made a few of the decisions that she did, but ultimately she finds herself right where she belongs. Caleb was fantastic, and Natalie was my favorite type of book bestie. I highly recommend for anyone who loves a good rom-com with well-written characters, great chemistry, fate vs. choice, former friends-to-lovers, second-chance, lol moments, a splash of celebrity-gossip type of fun, and thought-provoking topics. Think The Measure (less pressure than death), and feels/romance like Rebecca Serle, Katherine Center, Abby Jimenez. Great book club pick!

Huge thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio! I was lucky enough to receive the ALC of this fantastic listen. I had a blast listening to my first Joan F. Smith book, with the help of narrator Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, and I can't wait to tell everyone to read/listen to this one!

Olivia wakes up to two major life changes at once. Her fiancé has been hiding deeply troubling secrets, and at the same time, every adult in the world receives the name and birthdate of their soulmate. As the only reporter available at 3am, she is suddenly responsible for breaking one of the biggest stories imaginable.

This story felt incredibly relatable, especially in how it portrays Olivia navigating betrayal and uncertainty. Her reactions felt grounded and authentic. She is not overly dramatic or unrealistically decisive, which made her easy to connect with.

I also appreciated the interpretation of “soulmate.” It is not limited to romantic relationships, but can also be a best friend, a parent, or another meaningful connection. That added emotional depth and made the concept feel fresh.

Olivia’s internal conflict was one of the strongest parts of the story. While she is clearly hurt, she is also forced to consider the possibility that Wells may still be her soulmate. It highlights the reality that relationships are often more complex than we expect, and that it is not always as simple as walking away.

One element that did not fully work for me was the idea that a soulmate could be a parent or child. From a parental perspective, while that bond is deeply meaningful, it also raises difficult questions about what that means for future romantic relationships. This felt intentionally open-ended, but it left me with some lingering discomfort.

There is no explicit content. There are brief references to sex, but nothing graphic or descriptive.

Overall, this is a strong read for anyone who enjoys light romance with a speculative element and emotionally grounded storytelling. The twist ending feels both expected and surprising, and the story offers a thoughtful look at love, choice, and connection.

Bring, Borrow, or Bypass?

Thank you to Edelweiss, MIRA, and HarperCollins for the opportunity to read and review this book before it's publication date! This in no way affected my review, opinions are my own.

Okay look, I'm generally pretty good with remembering plotlines of books. I remember full specific scenes of books that I read 15 years ago. I can remember some dialogue almost word for word of books I read 5 years ago.

I finished this book two weeks ago and when sitting down to write this review (kids, this is why you (I) should write reviews write after finishing 😩) I had to go back through the ebook to remember HOW IT ENDED. Like. WHO SHE ENDED UP WITH and WHAT SHE WAS DOING WITH HER LIFE.

I'll take 70% of the blame on that one because my mind is a bit scattershot these days, but still.

Overall premise was very interesting, and I think if it had retained focus on the global ramifications of the soulmails, it might have kept my interest a bit more fully. I wasn't super interested in the day to day life of Olivia or her love interests as a whole, **although** I did like that the person that became "the face of" the soulmail phenomenon was just a normal ordinary gal that wasn't super polished or ready for that kind of fame. Probably the most relatable part of the entire book, tbh.

OVERALL, worth the library borrow for sure.
