ISIS vs. Texas Can One Man Fight America's Deadliest Enemy Single-Handed?
“An action-packed read from beginning to end!" —Joel Maldonado, retired U.S. Border Patrol Agent
On Thanksgiving, the first high-profile abduction and assassination by ISIS operatives is broadcast online. As the world watches in horror, American agencies struggle to respond. The best intelligence organizations cannot predict (much less protect) the next victim.
Deep in the heart of Texas, Brooks Davis is thrust into this drama. He started the day at a construction site, then is drugged and trafficked across the Mexican border. His captors must contend with the unpredictable variable of one man’s survival instinct and desperate desire to return home.
Brooks must battle his way across the Mexican wilderness, determined to reach the demarcation line between life and death. As he uses his wits to evade Mexican cartels and military forces, Brooks’ wife, Molly, and sons are coping with FBI surveillance and protection.
From the Oval Office to the Mexican presidential palace, a battle is unfolding over Article 9 in the US/Mexican extradition treaty. Geopolitics weave a new net that threatens to ensnare him. How can Brooks escape and atone for the harm he has done to the love of his life?
Daniel Holub has had several rewarding careers. He has worked as a medical researcher, a veterinarian, a rancher, and a novelist.
After earning a Master of Medical Science degree from Emory University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University, he became a member of the Cullen Cardiovascular Surgical Research Laboratories of the Texas Heart Institute under famed heart surgeon Denton Cooley, MD. A long and productive career in a private veterinary practice followed his years in research.
After retirement, Daniel pursued a new avocation of writing fiction. His debut thriller, Article 9, shows that he is as accomplished behind his laptop as he was in the exam room and the surgical operatory.
Daniel is a Vietnam era veteran and a proud Texas rancher. He lives in the Texas Hill Country with his wife, Cathy, and their two cats, Sadie Sue and Francie La Rue.
I received an ARC through "Booksirens" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story begins with ISIS entering and kidnapping an individual who is later shown being killed live. The story then introduces to Brooks Davis a contractor who is working at a site where he is building a mansion for a client. Shortly the client arrives and soon a cell of ISIS arrives and kidnaps Brook and his client, the client being the target. The two are taken to Mexico where the billionaire client dies of a heart attack. Brooks is now alone and is facing execution. When two of the three ISIS members leave Brooks is tortured. Before the other two get back, Brooks has managed to kill the member left guarding him and escaped.
Follow Brooks Trek and he tries to get back home. Discover all the obstacles that he needs to overcome to make it back. Learn what new items are now put in place and how he has to avoid the cartel and change the conversation around what he did.
