First, I want to share with you a little bit of my story my training and my background, and I think that what it is going to do is give you hope. People often say, you know this so well, you are so professional and make it look so easy. But I assure you it was not that easy, I had to work hard and listen, but that should absolutely give you hope.
I want to just affirm and celebrate and congratulate you on saying yes to your dream of really following your heart and joining me here.
I know for myself when I landed on that thing that I knew was the thing that was going to be that made my heart expand that there is just no other feeling like it.
In 2005 I was a youth pastor and a candidate for ordination in my church. My daughter came as a wonderful surprise and I told the church I was taking at least 10 years off to raise my daughter. They said, how about 5 years? I said, I’ll see you in 10 ;)
I knew that I didn’t want strangers raising my daughter, so I got online to learn internet marketing and how to make money online. 4 months later and a lot of sweat, tears and very little sleep, I sold out my first information product in 36 hours and was an ‘overnight’ success. That niche marketing research made people thousands of dollars. While the success was great, and I had offers to start going on stage, the whole point was to stay home and raise my daughter, so I stayed underground.
I had success, I had epic failure and a divorce. Through it all, I remained steadfast to my commitment to stay home and raise my daughter.
Now she’s in school and I’m over my divorce and ready for my comeback. Small local businesses were hurting big time for not having an internet presence, so I turned to helping them. And I was able to clean up their websites, help them get ranked and target their marketing. I have been so happy to be back into the internet and technology, but something was still missing. My clients couldn’t target their marketing until I first helped them get clear on their dreams.
I had learned an all important question from Mary Morrissey along the way – What Would I LOVE?!
Howard Thurman said, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do that because what the world needs is more people who have come alive!” and so as much as I loved tech, the thing that really made my heart expand was being involved in the transformation of people’s lives and the igniting of their dreams. And when I landed on that I knew that that was it.
I knew that that’s where it all comes together – the Geek and the Pastor.
Even though I had followed this dream of internet marketing and bringing dreams to the world online, I realized that there is a larger vision for me. That building websites and marketing was my first version and only a part of the dream and ultimately what I stepped into was a larger version of the dream and that is what we are doing now. I stepped into that that dream of being involved in the transformation of people’s lives, the igniting of their dreams and I have to say you that there is nothing like it.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing clients and to just see these principles at work and to see time collapse as people actually take on these life transforming principles starting with just what seems like a simple idea of writing down a vision of the life that they would love to live and speaking it out and bringing together people around this dream who are partners in believing and believe that they really can do it. Just such simple principles are so profound and ultimately are the principles that change people’s lives.
I know you know that is true because my guess is that has been true for you as well. What I am so excited about for each one of you is that as you step into this and as you embrace these principles of dream building that what you will find is that it is
