Well, I love a good contemporary, but this one had me feeling like I was in an alternate universe. Why, you ask? Because I literally live within a one mile radius of Joe's supposed home. Yup. I actually live in Galloway, and yeah, there's woods, but there are no bears or wildcats...a few foxes and plenty of deer though. Lived through that superstorm too. Most of the houses that were destroyed in Brigantine, were Destroyed...with a capital D. No way could they have completed the repairs in a month or two. And those on the beach means north end...no way were repairs minor.
Cute premise, loved "the compound," and the family dynamics. A few fun lines kept the story entertaining although the writing felt forced. Some dialogue was unrealistic and I really didn't get the whole gay-for-you storyline. Also there would seem to be an age gap, but it's never really addressed. Travis is a widower with 3 kids, and it was hard to tell Joe's age, but I got the impression he was younger...only out of college a couple of years at most, so there has to be at least 5 years difference.
