Murky Water

Rate this book
Water doesn't wash away everything...

Four years ago a maniacal and pragmatic serial killer terrorized the city of New Orleans. Her name was Agnes McCall, better known then as Monica. She was a woman scorned, who enacted her revenge in a string of brutal murders that displayed no hint of mercy or compassion.

In the span of months a town was left in shambles as bodies piled up in the wake of her rage. Then, as abruptly as they started the murders stopped and Agnes was gone.

Now she has found a new city to call home, a new river to hide the sins of her past. The teeming streets of New York offer the perfect opportunity to start over, but for Agnes starting over means starting again.

The date was October 31, 1979. The air was cool and a light fog blew in from the gulf, cloaking the Tampa area in an ominous, tight-fitting tunic. The annual Halloween festivities had just begun and a night of mischievous tomfoolery was afoot.

Scandalous and nefarious characters took flight. Doorbells were rung and ill-boding tricks were played regardless of the treats given. This was the dark reality of the bustling Florida metropolitan.

To the north, Grateful Dead crooned the night's theme music at the Nassau Coliseum. Within earshot of the concert, witnesses stated a UFO hovered over the grounds for thirty minutes before vanishing.

At the same time the Cromarty's were busy hosting their notorious Halloween party at 112 Ocean Ave., better known as the Amityville Horror House. Screams and cries for help were reported throughout the night, punctuated with the disappearance of the family next door. They were never heard from again.

Unknowingly altering the course of history, Kurt Vonnegut released "Jailbird" the same week KISS gained infamy on The Tomorrow Show. The aftermath of this collision would not be felt for decades until the emergence of Justin Bieber.

After a night filled with mayhem and destruction and the deaths of several prominent entertainers, politicians and a notorious bank robber, the Federal government was forced to loan $1.5 billion dollars to Chrysler. This spurred a series of violent protests, resulting in the Brunah Agate oil spill. Over 10.7 million gallons of oil were dumped into the Galveston Bay. This became the worst oil spill disaster in U.S. history.

A few hours later on November 1, 1979, Rashad Freeman was born. Feel free to draw your own conclusions.

A few years later and in a new city, we find our serial killer hard at work again and most of her victims are well known faces to the public. Once the first body has washed to shore, we're introduced to detective Eve Rosario. Smart and intimidating, despite her size, detective Rosario can handle her own and she's hit the ground chasing pavement to find the homocidal killer that has plagued her city with fear. Even as those around her start falling like dominoes.

One of my other loves, when submerging myself in a murder book, is being satisfied with the authors ability to describe a scene, as horrific or violent as it may seem to others. Since I am also an avid horror, murder, thriller book/movie kind of gal...it's always great when I feel like I have a front row seat to all the mayhem. I still feel like the story was a bit rushed. I like to get to know the characters, almost to the point where I feel like they're a close friend. When I connect to them on that level, it's almost heartbreaking when the book is over. In this case, even though I didn't have that wanted connection, the end left on such a cliff hanger I was mostly disappointed that I didn't have book 3 readily available to begin reading right now.

A bit of Rizzoli and a dash of Dexter.

If you can get past the cop show cliches, you are left with a reasonable plot line. There is a twist or two to this story and it does move along reasonably well. I will read book 2. I do hope that this is a series that has a definite conclusion and not one that drags on forever.

This is a book I finished then went back and scanned through a few more times and still had a-ha moments. It's a twisted thriller for sure and certain to keep you on the edge of your seat. I love the change of location and even the pace of the novel was different from the first. But the crazy lady is still at it and now we have a pretty bad a$$ female detective to cheer for. I'm loving how this series is coming together.

Whoa!!!

I was completely stunned and shocked as I read each chapter, page by page. I couldn't understand how a woman could hate and then have the compassion to love. Who and what did this man name Daniel do to Agnes. I was caught up in actually needing to know. There has to be a sequel

Better than Night Slashers. While I really liked NS I think this book was more fleshed out and really pieced everything together for me. The character development was great and I love how creepy the scenes were. The introduction of a new female lead was really welcome and I can't wait to see how she develops throughout the rest of the series. Really good job!

This lady is nuts. I don't know what to say without spoiling the book other than damn she is mean. I found myself getting actually mad as I read the book like geez I don't like her one bit. The ending wasn't what I wanted but I hope by the end of the series I can jump up and down and scream Yes!!!!

Great follow-up to Night Slashers. I dare say this was even better. I love the change of scenery and the new characters. This had much more of a mystery/detective feel to it and I loved that part. I also liked the news angle on it, my favorite character was Henry I think the author captured him perfectly. Really good series and I can't wait to read the next book.

Really trippy book. Coming off of Night Slashers this book was a great followup. All those questions you were left with after Night Slashers get answered and it leaves you wanting more. Lot of knew characters and I love how this author makes each of them believable.
